Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

Lyra - fantastic news. Am so glad for you. Must be a weight off your shoulders.

Onwards and upwards.

GeorgieM · 24/06/2005 16:16

Oh, forgot to say, told DD (nearly 4) last night. She's v excited and said she'd help me change poo-ey nappies! And if it's a boy she wants to call it William and if its a girl she wants to call it Ariel (no Disney influence there then!). But suspect it'll be a long 6 months as she's now asking if the baby is still in my tummy and when it's coming out!

sweetkitty · 24/06/2005 16:45

thats great news lyra

had the appointment for my scan next Friday cannot wait it will put my mind at ease, DP has even booked the day off work.

Eshay · 24/06/2005 16:52

That's great news. Lyra. you must feel so much better now. And you laready know it's going to be a boy.

I haven't even received my appointment letter yet so I have no idea when my scan will be. I sure hope they didn't forget to register me like with DS. How long in advance did people hear when they would have their scan? I'm 10 weeks today so there's time but I'm getting slightly worried.

Teuch, I had serious cramps last time around for quite a while but I can't remember how many weeks they lasted. Less than 8 I think.

mandyc66 · 24/06/2005 17:21

shouldnt join here really...but my eldest was born Jan 6th!!!! He will be 15 when yours are due!!!!!!!

Rachey1969 · 25/06/2005 18:25

Great news Lyra! You must be thrilled, I think I will have to ask the sex (and make it public knowledge) at my next scan otherwise the kids are gonna drive me insane! (and I can start scavenging for clothes!)

Teuch - I had a few 'stretching' pains and some that felt like someone flicking my bladder!

Georgie - my dd (7) has a list of names already (and they are all awful!)

Eshay - I'd give the hospital or your midwife a ring to check - it took about a week for me to get an appointment.

Chuffed · 25/06/2005 21:10

Eshay call the hospital, they lost mine then sent me three so it is worth following up.
Had my dating scan today - am 10wks and 5 days due 16th Jan. The baby was quite big which is probably why I am showing the midwife was surprised how far through I am as she thought I was showing much more than my dates.

mandyc66 · 26/06/2005 07:54

butting in again...I was big for dates. My midwife thought it was twins with my ds4!!! And I had to go for glucose test with last 2 and a scan because they were big! But everything was fine, just big bouncing boys!!!

Elly1801 · 26/06/2005 17:36

Hey girls, just catchin up on msgs....

Georgie, Lyra and Chuffed, great to hear news bout scans!!! I've got my first a week on Monday (4th), quite nervous but also looking forward to this next stage. M/wife is due to do 'booking in' on Sunday am - any top tips for Qs to ask?

Feeling a lot less nauseous on the whole but still obsessing about cheese! Out for lunch with family yesterday and opted for roast beef sarnie then spent the rest of the time when the food arrived beadily eyeing up the hunks of cheddar cheese on my cousin's ploughman's!! She must have thought I was deranged, I'm sure she caught me staring longingly at it!!

How's everyone for tummies - top button probs anyone ; ) ?

lyra41 · 26/06/2005 21:59

Elly

Tummy definitely sticking out much more now I've gone public. Most of it is flab, but what the heck! I love the feeling of being able to be proud of a good big tum!

Haven't gained any weight yet, hooray, as I was abt 3 stone overweight when I started. Still hoping for a useful redistribution of flesh over the next 6 months! Eating normally now though, so this is mostly wishful thinking.

Still seem to needing lots more sleep than usual. Went out to a party last night, and managed till 10pm, then had to go for a kip on the back seat of the car (and I had an hour's afternoon nap in preparation), and missed my dh performing in a Cajun band. It sounded really fun and interactive. Oh well, I suppose I have seen him do his thing before. I got up after about 40 mins, but had to go home about 11. I felt pleased to stay up that late though.

Anyone else still very tired?

I'm going shopping for some new bras tomorrow, as my titties are gaining a life of their own, and don't seem to be able to relate to any bra below a 38D. I also want some comfortable maternity clothes, preferably a dress or 2 that doesn't grab me round the waist. Any suggestions?

Rachey1969 · 27/06/2005 07:40

I'm definitely in maternity clothes now as my waist has officially disappeared! I hate feeling uncomfortable round the middle, especially as I drive a lot. The mothercare website has a sale on at the moment and I bought a whole load of stuff (wrap tops, denim skirt etc) My favourite for work is a non-maternity wrap dress which I wear over trousers (I hate showing legs and although a bit hot - everywhere seems to be air-conditioned) I haven't seen any really nice maternity dresses that don't look like maternity dresses... (ie tents). I was a 38E before I got pregnant and definitely need bras although I'm trying to pace myself! I usually buy nursing bras because there's a good chance they'll fit you at some stage when breastfeeding after.

Still tired...

lyra41 · 27/06/2005 08:16

Anyone know what is a safe dose of fatty acids to take during pregnancy? I don't eat much oily fish. I seem to remember one of our number being a dietician or nutritionist.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2005 10:52

Have sprouted a little bump overnight, just looks like fat unfortunately but it's like that for a while, I'll be trying to stay away from maternity clothes for as long as possible. As DD was a July babe all my maternity clothes are summery and loads are smart as I was still working in London. Think I'll be investing in some cardis and jumpers for the winter.

Still feeling rough when will it end ???? Was actually sick yesterday DDs nappy set me off!

Rachey1969 · 27/06/2005 11:13

Personally at nearly 13 wks now, I am feeling a lot better but plagued by catarrh and tired out from the heat and chasing after puppy!

Lyra - I noticed in Boots that they sell fatty acid/fish oil type supplements especially for pregnancy - they are very expensive so I had a salmon sandwich instead!

Chuffed · 27/06/2005 11:32

Well I've now officially told work. I was sick for the first time too yesterday - nothing really triggered me off.
I have some maternity t-shirts/singlets which are longer than mine and a little more roomy but not much in the stomach. Most of the low rise stuff tended to fit for longer which is what I'll try to do this time too. I hate maternity bottoms with all that elastic but it probably won't be too long to tell you the truth.
Rachey you must be due so early in Jan as I'm 11wks today and due 16th.

Rachey1969 · 27/06/2005 14:49

Im officially due on Jan 4th but I have always gone 2 wks overdue so I think Christmas and New Year are safe!

I find with clothes that due to my balloning bosom I can't get the length! Ordinary tops end a couple of inches above my midriff, unfortunately my bump is wibbly and has a road map of stretch marks! I went down to 9 1/2 stones after dd was born - I have a long way to go this time!

Chuffed · 27/06/2005 14:53

Rachey the length thing is why I have the tight fitting maternity tops as they are longer. Being normally busty makes length a problem all the time and I'm not quite tall enough for 'tall tops' but a lot of normal tops are too short.

GeorgieM · 28/06/2005 10:20

Hey y'all. Glad everyone else sporting little bumps. Mine's not really noticeable in the morning, but by the time I go to bed it's huge! One (kind?) friend pointed out that she didn't look that big until she was 4 months...... hurrumph!

Am waiting for my maternity trousers to turn up. Jeez do I need some comfy clothes at the mo!

How's everyone else?

Chuffed · 28/06/2005 11:20

Georgie snap, huge in the evening. I wasn't this big until about 4mths last time but hey ho what is will be.

Rachey1969 · 28/06/2005 12:17

I'm praying for my bump to show to give me some definition! I have some smartish black maternity trousers that will do for almost any occasion. I also have these fab sequinned jeans from next (again bought on ebay) but I can't keep them up! I've spent about £100 now and have 3 bottoms (+ordinary gypsy skirts & a wrap dress) + 3 wrap maternity tops. The good thing about being pregnant in autumn/winter is that you have your own central heating and can cope with layers n cardies. I have a lovely little purple shrug from gap which is v flattering on the boobs and the bump.

I'm off to Newcastle and Harrogate for the rest of the week! (2hr flight there and a 7hr train journey back ) See y'all later - have a good week

Elly1801 · 28/06/2005 12:47

Glad to hear about these nocturnal bumps - I was beginning to think it was my imagination! : ))

Thanks for the tip re. M/Care sale - managed to order a pair of jeans : ). Will leave the rest til scan confirmed etc, chickens counting and all that!

Have a good day, girlies.

Eshay · 28/06/2005 20:59

Hi Ladies,

I am definitely expanding more quickly than with DS. I don't really have a bump (other than what was already there) but my trousers are often too tight, especially in the afternoon and evening. Last weekend I went and bought some bigger clothes. One pair of Mat trousers but they look ridiculous for now. I bought some not so flattering elasticated trousers and I felt so much better wearing those to work yesterday. Skirts with an elastic top are quite popular with me at the moment too although I hate my legs rubbing against each other

My tiredness seems to have gone away and any MS that I had as well. It wasn't much to begin with so I'm very lucky. I'm even more lucky if you know what I'm doing at work at the moment. I'm translating a TV programme about plastic surgery and it is very graphic. It would make anyone run to the toilet, pg or not! And it takes several days to do a 45 minute programme. Lovely.

I have some good news to share. Remember DH had a melanoma and had surgery? Yesterday we heard that there were no signs of the cancer having spread whatsoever. He'll still have to go for regular check-ups but he's pretty much as healthy as any of us. We're so lucky!

lyra41 · 28/06/2005 21:58

Eshay

so glad to hear about your dh, you can relax now and focus on yourself and your bump.

Rachey

thanks for the tip re. fish oils and Boots, I'll have a look.

Chuffed

what is a "tall top?"

Didn't manage to get anything maternity clothes wise or bra wise yesterday after all. Will start looking on ebay I think.

Told everyone at work today and people were gratifyingly excited for me. It constantly amazes me how thrilled people can be about the news when they don't even know you that well. Lovely though.

I'm desperate to feel some movement, I think I can feel the beginnings of flutterings, but it's probably imagination (I'm only 13 + 6 after all).

We had someone round to look at changing our scruffy junk room cum playroom loft into a decent room this evening. He quoted me £8 - £9K, just to make a storeroom with cupboards under the eaves and a plasterboard finish. It was rather disappointingly a lot more than we expected. Oh well...

Hectic week ahead, what with ds doing a play Thursday, me doing parents evening at school Thurs (so can't go and watch ds), then packing to go camping (!) (not done it for YEARS) to Edinburgh for the make poverty history march at the weekend. Phew, I think I'd better get an early night.

Thunder and lightening is just starting here so I'll go to bed and watch the show.

Night night everyone.

Chuffed · 29/06/2005 09:26

Hi, so glad to hear that good news Eshay, it must be such a relief and now your parents can see your timing is perfect.
A 'tall' top are those made for tall people places like topshop, next, dorothy perkins have them but some of the small t-shirts in H&M maternity fit very similar and are cheaper. I find it covers length wise and stretches without showing skin.
Am still feeling a bit crap in the evenings but I really think there is a correlation between tiredness and me feeling a bit crap so really need to work on that I feel.
