I love the boys clothes in H & M. I liked the girls clothes in the 0-12 months range, not so much in the older range.

moschops · 26/05/2005 14:10

i've just ordered two pairs of support briefs from Mothercare (on the advice of my midwife)...............i think much hysterical laughter will ensue when i put them on.

i keep crying today because tonight after work dp is taking the dog down to the in-laws, i really wanted to enjoy his last day living with us but i can't because every time he looks at me with those big brown eyes of his i sob uncontrollably.

i know its for the best and after the weekend it'll probably feel a bit better but i just feel so awful about it.....

mummyhill · 26/05/2005 15:54

Have 9 weeks left at work wow doesn't seem long now but am trying to get the last two weeks of july as holiday that way i only need to go and stand behind my checkout for another 7 weeks. Am being nagged to start packing hospital bag by com midwife can't remember what to put in the bloody thing though and helpfully they don't have a list unless i decide to do all the parent craft classes again this time. Do i need to? Has it all changed much in the last 3.5 years?

Tallbird · 26/05/2005 21:34

Milward, I am another sufferer with a varicose vein - on the inside of my calf. It started developing even before I had dd 4 years ago - but seems to have got much worse recently (I am now 25 weeks). Haven't got as far as seeing anyone about it yet though (dreading the support tights recommendation). Seems to be at its worst first thing in the morning, but wears off after a bit of gentle exercise. Have also found that sleeping with my leg up on a pillow helps a bit.
Not sure whether more vigorous exercise is good for it or not - am still playing tennis once or twice a week, and doing pilates.
Must ask at my next mw appointment - though couldn't get one of those for a couple of weeks, and the community midwife has so far been pretty useless at answering any of my questions !

sarahhal · 26/05/2005 21:40

Time is flying by isn't it! Have just broken up for half term and have worked out that when I go back after the hols I only have 21 days to work before summer and then that's it until I go back after Easter next year! (that's working 3 days a week) Obsessed with planning a holiday for next summer seeing as how won't get away this year. Clothes wise it seems a lot harder being pregnant at this time of year - have borrowed quite a lot off friends but just can't stop buying tops I don't need! Dorothy Perkins do a really reasonable maternity range and can feel a sneaky visit tomorrow coming on!

No one has been watching Desperate Midwives on BBC3 have they ..........?

mummyhill · 26/05/2005 21:43

I love NHS Direct i had a bit of a flap earlier as my best friend phoned to warn me that her ds has just come out in chicken pox blisters adn we have been in close contact with him this week. Went on line and have had a very quick response which has put my mind at rest apparently as i had the virus as a child i should be immune and there is no cause for concern thank god for that as last time i was pregnant DD got chicken pox and i ended up having a miscarriage withoin 1 week of her comming down with it!!!! So you can see why i was having a flap.

beatie · 27/05/2005 07:58

Mummyhill - glad that you're not having to worry. If you weren't already immune I think it is considered most dangerous before the 20th week of pregnancy. I love NHS direct too.

Does anyone know what the cut off for flying is without a doctors note? I'm 25 weeks and fly on Monday. I'm pretty sure that is fine but just wanted to check as I cannot find anything written on my ticket.

PiccadillyCircus · 27/05/2005 08:49

I think you're fine flying up to 28 weeks without a note. It might say somewhere on the website for the airline you're flying with?

I am 24 weeks today .

And the weather was lovely when I got up. Didn't mind getting out of bed at 6:15 for once.

I have the feeling it will be rather too hot later on but for now I like it .

Piccalilli · 27/05/2005 09:57

Beatie, it depends entirely on the airline. I flew last week (23 weeks) without a note and that airline said I'd be fine up to 32 weeks, others aren't so relaxed. You'd be best checking with the airline I think.

milward · 27/05/2005 10:27

I've head 28 weeks & 32 weeks depending on the airline. Check holiday health insurance as well in case of medical treatment abroad.

Thanks for the tips on support tights - will check mothercare & try sleeping with legs on a pillow

beatie · 27/05/2005 12:32

I'll check the website of the airline.

So, today's the day we get a taster for what it's like to be pregnant when it's hot weather. It has lifted my mood which is great... but I can see how hard it is going to be if we get a humid summer. Today I feel like I cannot get a breath of fresh air.

I'm not complaining though. It was nice to be able to put dd into a summer dress and shoes. I went to H & M and splurged on girlie accessories - play beads, a hat, hair clips, hair bands, sunglasses, a little girl's bag. Only one of those items was on my list

mummyhill · 27/05/2005 13:56

Shorts and tshirt for dd summer dress for me and everything was fine till had to do the nursery run all up hill at the hotest point of the day am now exhausted thank goodness mil is collecting her today. Only 7 weeks of school left though and there is a weeks hloiday next week so i think i will be ok if not will just have to insist on pinching the car from dh instead of walking in the heat!!!!!!

PiccadillyCircus · 27/05/2005 16:03

Anyone else feel like they are starting to swell up a bit? I definitely feel more swollen than I did yesterday - am hoping it is only to do with increasing temperatures.

With DS my rings had to be off my fingers by 28 weeks, BP got too high by 33 weeks and was in and out of hospital from 35 to 38 weeks, when DS was born. I suppose I'm worrying a bit about it turning into pre-eclampsia again .

Hopefully all will be well though .

Week is now over at work .

moschops · 27/05/2005 16:26

my feet are swelling up and i'm pretty sure i've got a touch of sciatica too............

its not even that hot here today and i'm slobbing out with a cold wet flannel on my neck.

normally i LOVE hot weather but i'm so uncomfortable anyway that the heat isn't helping.

was hoping to get some cleaning done today but i'm just not upto it and dp gets really mad with me if he thinks i've been doing too much.......he really is a sweetheart, running around after me

zubb · 27/05/2005 16:52

meant to be tidying up as we have people staying all weekend but haven't got the energy -I feel like I've been punched in the ribs at the moment which is really weird. Luckily not swelling yet, but baby is getting very active and I feel like I'm about to burst, so I think that he's moved into a awkward position (probably to avoid ds2's kisses) - just got to try and encourage him to move back!

jessysmummy · 27/05/2005 17:04

No swelling here yet, thank goodness, apart form the old tum didn't really suffer from that last time round until the last couple of weeks, but having quite bad headaches (very unusual for me). Have put it down to the humid weather. Luckily it's supposed to get a bit fresher here tomorrow. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that I'm glad it's going to get cooler!! But I was working from home yesterday and got absolutely nothing done because I couldn't concentrate [guilt].

Boompi · 27/05/2005 20:59

Interesting week. I got the tummy bug doing the rounds and took wed off with Nausea and diarrhoea but felt I had to go into work on Thurs. Got a bollocking from one of my O&G collegues at work when she saw me and was sent off to hospital with DH. Had to go to labour ward as getting some uterine irritabilty too. Anyhow long story short, got told off by docs for getting myself dehydrated and was admitted for 24hr to have IV fluids and obs. My first time in hospital since I was 11! Real wake up call for me I guess as have been trying to continue on with life like before. Was discharged today and feel ok but shocked that I got 3 litres of fluid IV and hadnt even picked up signs in self of dehdration. Watch out for this ladies - especially in this weather - DRINK LOTS!! Good thing was staff on labour ward all lovely.

LadyLazarus · 28/05/2005 09:47

Aww poor you Boompi, not nice to have to go into hospital, especially if you work in one!! I had to come home from work yesterday and have a freezing cold shower I was so hot and bothered!

It's my last afternoon at work today Will be decidedly strange not to be in the realm of the employed for a rather long time, but I'm sure I'll learn to live with it . Let's hope today's sunny but a bit cooler than yesterday!!

pooka · 28/05/2005 19:30

Oh congrats LadyLazarus. Make sure you really make the most of your freedom, t'll be lovely to have the summer at leisure. DD was born in July, and I had 6 weeks of before she arived. It was lovely, although I really wish I'd spent more time doing NOTHING rather than madly decorating, gardening, cleaning etc.

ych · 28/05/2005 20:45

Sarahhal - I watched Desperate Midwives for the first time the other night. Am going to try and remember to watch it on Monday night at 9pm. Was watching it with my legs crossed though, keep forgetting the labour part of pregnancy, just keep thinking about cuddling a little bundle.
Was in tears when I read about Sarah's baby. Was shocked at the treatment she got in the hospital, I'm sure she will have all her family round her now to support her.
Well I'm 24 weeks today. I went shopping and walked for about 10 minutes and felt absolutely exhausted. My bump and lower back were aching. My bump isn't even that big, I'm only just wearing maternity trousers but today I was doing the whole pregnant lady thing of rubbing my back and puffing! I ended up having to go home as I felt awful, I was walking like an old lady. It's nothing to do with the heat either as it always rains in Scotland!
Boompi - glad your okay. I really need to drink more water.
One of my friends is now 6 days over her due date, she's plannnig on a water birth so will see how she gets on. Not sure if that would be for me or not. Anyone had a water birth?

franch · 30/05/2005 09:58

ych no, haven't had a waterbirth but am planning one this time There are threads on it here if you do a search. Had a meeting with the head of midwifery last week and she confirmed they can do my homebirth for me even tho I'm outside their catchment area - hooray! So have provisionally booked a pool.

Feeling huge, with very achey back and hip (the side I tend to carry DD on), which is making me increasingly concerned about our plans to fly to the States at 33weeks .... am I mad??? May start a separate thread about this, although I've already done it to death really. Trouble is, DD is to be flowergirl at a really good friend's wedding and her dress is already being made ....

Have had good news and bad news this week. DH didn't get the job in Kingston so we won't be coming to see you I'm afraid, andif Happily though, my brother and his wife rang yesterday to say she's pregnant - they've been trying for ages, had a miscarriage last year and turned down IVF last month - I think after that they just relaxed about the whole thing and it finally happened. Am keeping everything crossed for them. DD has 25 cousins on DH's side of the family (and a 26th on the way!), so it'll be lovely for her and her sister to have one on my side as well.

franch, sorry about the job. Thinking of you all.

franch · 30/05/2005 10:02

Thanks Mars. We'll survive!!

MarsLady · 30/05/2005 10:07

sorry to hijack won't do it for long, but I'm convinced that there is a better job waiting, and in London.

franch · 30/05/2005 10:49

Let's hope so. We'll just have to be patient - I've learned to be much better at living in the present, the last couple of years
