Ych - I've had the opposite experience. Every time I mention that I shouldn't really have that bar of chocolate/packet of crisps/danish pastry as I'll regret it in Sept mt work colleagues and friends all egg me on to eat and enjoy while I can. My DS was horrified when she saw a pcket of low fat biscuits in the back of my car! So if I don't lose the weight this time round at least I've got some bodies else to blame

Redhelen · 18/06/2005 21:07

Hello!

I'm new to Mumsnet and happily leaving messages all around! My second baby is due on 12th September (so nearly 28 weeks) Strugling with the heat, lack of sleep, lose of balance and I hate all my clothes - otherwise I can't wait and very keen to leave work in 2 weeks. Going to my first anti-natal on Wednesday - as my son is 5 now - I've forgotton so much. Take care Helen

bubbles2904 · 19/06/2005 16:05

just wanted to say hi redhelen and welcome. you will soon be addicted. i have a dd who is 6 and i know what you mean about forgetting everything. i can't even remember conversations i had 2 minutes ago LOL. everything seems to have changed now, from mw appointments to the age you are supposed to start weaning. does anyone know why?

mummyhill · 19/06/2005 20:18

Welcome redhelen.

Bubbles - Current recomendation for weaning is apparently now six months!!!!! It was 4 when i had DD and i got told off for weaning her early as i refused to start on a round of nighttime bottles again!!!!

The heat is killing me i upset work by phoning in sick yesterday as i woke up with a blinding headache, spent the whole day lying on top of the bed with minimum clothes on (not a pretty sight) Am desperatly trying to find cool, comfy clothing that looks nice (who am i trying to kid) Need to lobby clothing manufacturing people re nice matternity clothes that we aren't going to cook in more natural cooton please as it breaths. It has perversley been at least 2 degrees cooler in the house than outside today. We are getting rumbles of thunder and some slight spots of rain but could do with the real thing to clear the air before I die!!

LadyLazarus · 19/06/2005 20:41

Hi everyone, and big hello to all the new people on here

It was lovely to see Kiwifruit, Boompi, Franch and Katt at the lunch + pedicure yesterday. I'm not doing very well in this heat today tho, definitely wilting a bit!!! Have had 2 cold showers today, but just can't seem to cool down.

Off to Newcastle tomorrow, but will have internet access up there, so can still check-in

sarahhal · 19/06/2005 21:00

Hi all - hope you all enjoyed your London meet up.

Any one else slightly worried how they are going to feel by August if this weather keeps up?! I usually love the hot weather but today was a complete moaning pain in the bum! Ended up in a non maternity bikini (mmmmm..that was not a pretty sight) in DS' paddling pool this afternoon not giving a hoot who saw me!

Am also suffering from awful pains in my legs and hips during the night - had it last time but really stopping me from sleeping. Managed a grand total of one and a half days at work last week - had Mon aft off for midwife app then felt so tired and awful on Wed that went home after an hour. The thought of class after class of arsey teenagers literally reduced me to tears! Only five weeks to go now until summer hols - working 3 days a week that's only 15 days ....yipee!!!

Anyone know a rain dance........

Redhelen · 20/06/2005 06:22

Hello

Has any one got any good ideas on how to stay cool on these hot evenings! It was so incredibly hot last night and no sign of the thunder we were promised!! I wanted to enjoy the last weeks of my pregancy - but have to be truthful and say I wish it was 1st September right now!

PiccadillyCircus · 20/06/2005 08:19

Sorry to start Monday off with a moan but I am too tired . Not sure how much sleep I got between 11pm and 4:30am last night (although I know I woke up a few times tossing and turning in the sauna that was our room, despite the industrial size fan and trailing to the toilet).

DS then woke up at 4:45am feeling too hot (don't blame him) but as DH has an exam tomorrow and his brain needs to be active to revise today, DS and I looked at books until about 6am, when he went back to cot and I realised there was no point in going back to bed.

So here I am at work (first time in nearly three weeks due to holiday) and not too amused to find out there is a two hour meeting this morning where I will have to take the minutes.

I want to be asleep.....

All of me seems to have swelled. I have taken my rings off as I don't want to repeat the experience last time of DH having to yank them off. Suppose that I am properly pregnant now - it is starting to sink in.

singleteenagemum · 20/06/2005 09:10

Morning PC,

i know how you feel re lack of sleep and then having to come to work, sit through pointless meetings that don't concern you and you then have to listen to take the blasted minutes....grrrr

I haven't been able to wear rings for ages but now my ankles have started going in the afternoons, it's horrible, my legs look really manky as it is....o well, only got 5weeks and 4 days left till i can walk around the house in my underwear for the whole day....going to be bliss!

Bubbles: I'm 18 and live in Kent on the sunny isle of Sheppey. Been driving for over a year now, which is handy with all the shopping i've had to do!

Hope the hot weather subsides soon, why couldn't i have a winter baby?

RedZuleika · 20/06/2005 09:25

Morning morning.

Re: weaning. Actually the minimum suggested age is 6 months. The World Health Organisation suggests continuing with breastfeeding (presumably supplementary to solids) until the age of two.

zubb · 20/06/2005 10:38

Morning!
The UK fell into line with the WHO regarding weaning a couple of years ago, but some health visitors may still be using 4 months as a guideline - I waited till 6 months with ds2 last year and my health visitor thought I was nuts! with ds1 3 years ago I weaned him at 4 months. Starting at 6 months I found it much easier and you can get to finger food much faster! Maybe being second time also made it easier though.

Boompi · 20/06/2005 10:39

Welcome Redhelen. Tossed and turned in heat last night. Found some relief in filling a spray bottle with water, squirting myself and turning up the fan. Have a ceiling fan which I can recommend - we even use it in winter(pushes warm air down) Spent yesterday in paddling pool too - have strange sunburn on bump due to tankini riding up. Looks very attractive.

Good to see the London crowd on Sat - when is the next pedicure? Bits of my body are really getting diffcult to reach/see - had to use mirror for bikini line yesterday! Bit lopsided now

Thanks for reminder re rings PC. Just managed to get mine off this am!

PiccadillyCircus · 20/06/2005 11:31

Boring meeting over. I always manage to take too many notes - had better try and sort them out into some semblance of sense.

It rained . And it is a lot less hot . I will go shopping at lunchtime I think.

Think I may have missed the boat re bikini line as my bump has suddenly grown outwards to the level where I can only assume that there is still a forest down there . Oh well.

jessysmummy · 20/06/2005 12:19

Afternoon all!
I too found it unbearable over the weekend - usually love the sun but heat, uncomfortable bump and hayfever drove me indoors yesterday. Never thought I'd be so delighted to see the torrential rain that appeared in the pm. DD however, was very fractious, though, having spent most of the last week outdoors at CenterParcs - she really didn't want to be confined to the indoors. Then decided she wouldn't go to sleep until 11pm, up again at 4.30 and again at 6.00 so along with a lot of you other lovely ladies, I'm stuck in work hot and knackered. DH is away with work this week too - just when I really could be doing with the help!
I'm so jealous of all of you starting mat leave in 5 weeks or less. I've still got 10 weeks to go and it seems so far away...
Weaning - managed DD til 5.5 months last time round and would have gone longer with BF if I hadn't have had to go back to work. Thought I'd get the weaning out of the way before DD went to nursery. Think it's a lot easier if you're BF - not so much messing around warming/sterilising bottles. I think 2 years is a bit long for breastfeeding, though [ouch]! Though I know people who've started weaning at 3 months because baby was just so hungry. Again, think it's one of those things that varies from baby to baby.

milward · 20/06/2005 12:57

People keep asking how I'm coping in the heat - well I look like a bright red tomato - so I just answer that I'm loving it Have stopped the support tights as unbearable - felt like I was going to faint. The hot weather isn't good for the vein prob but will just have to hope it doesn't get worse. Three dds to run after - & with school hols approaching - hope I manage.

Looking forward to the hols though - we're staying put as I can't go on the plane after 32 weeks and it's too far away by other means to comfortably travel - plus very hot!!! So we're going to visit all the lovely places nearby plus have some family visits. What's everyone else thinking of for their summer holiday?

zubb · 20/06/2005 13:20

Milward - we cancelled our holiday when we found out I was pregnant. We'd booked a lovely isolated cottage in Ireland (near Cork) for 2 weeks so that we could do lots of cycling and walking. I'll be 8 months pregnant when we were booked for so decided it wasn't such a good idea! We lost the deposit but it could have been worse.
Instead we'll do lots of day trips and outings, and the boys will probably stay with grandparents for a few days here and there. Dh and I will go away for a long weekend somewhere but not decided where yet.
I'm actually Ok in this heat which is surprising - felt a bit hot and bothered yesterday but then so did the rest of the population!

jessysmummy · 20/06/2005 15:31

All has gone quiet at the moment - think the heat is too much! Just looked at my feet and they seem to have swollen up to 3 times the size - will have difficulty getting my shoes off tonight.
342 postings! Gosh haven't we been busy? Could I suggest a new thread? Sorry I'm incapable of doing this. Is there any nice technical genius who would like to lend a hand? [cheeky] It's far too difficult to scroll down in this weather!

pooka · 20/06/2005 15:58

Have started new thread (no.9 - any guesses on how many there'll be by September?)
