As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

I am in Blooming Marvellous jeans (in sale) which are below bump with adjustable elastic, v. comfy. I too have some Next ones (from prev pg) which are over bump that are too big at the moment...but not for long .

I dropped dd off at pre-school this morning and was told "You're getting bigger every day". Thanks for that. I am definitely much bigger this time. I was very neat for dd, but then I had pre-eclampsia at the end which can affect babies growth and this time my muscles just gave up at about 8wks.

I have the rest of my scan tomorrow lunchtime, to see the bits they couldn't last time. The face and the heart - nothing important then. Just hope the baby cooperates this time.

Dd being very cute about baby, massaging and kissing my tummy. She told her keyworker that "my mummy can't drink beer because she has a baby in her tummy" .

bethoo · 30/09/2009 11:49

somewhathorrified i too have a roll on fat on the back though i think i have more than one since one lovingly hangs over my bra strap so that is uncomfortable now!
i hate maternity wear as feel frumpy but can never get the ones that fit snugly, i refuse to wear the hideous unflattering over the bump ones and have the ones wiht a stretch band in the pocket area so quite discreet though they still manage to fall down under the bump! wearing maternity tops makes me look bigger to the point that a non pregnant person wiht flat tummy would even look preggers wearing one! though the amount of fatty food and coke i consume means that by evening i am just swollen and uncomfortable as well as gassy! yuck.
was menaing ot start healthy eating when hit third trimester which was on sunday but now i have put it off to hitting the 30 week mark as cant get enough of junk food and coke! i will be in trouble when i have my gtt!!!

Biccy · 30/09/2009 12:32

I feel much bigger this time round than last time - have been fully in maternity clothes for weeks (except for a couple of floaty summer dresses, but it's too cold for those now) and am already having to get help with doing my shoes up, which feels bonkers! Perhaps you just forget? Felt so big and cumbersome this morning that I opted for heels (as I don't have to walk far today), and they have really helped with making me feel a bit more elegant.

I find any trousers with a jersey panel fall down, under bump or over bump, no matter what stage of pregnancy. The only ones that stay up for me are over the bump ones with the elastics on buttons on the inside.

Am truly quite scared about how big I'm going to end up this time - especially with Christmas just there at the end!

Biccy · 30/09/2009 12:36

Oh, and my 60s kitchen was awful - it had clearly suffered 'updates' every decade since it was installed, so there was bubbly & flaking stick back plastic everywhere, tiles that once had an embossed pattern but had then had purple, then blue, then white tile paint badly smothered all over them, plus we had to be rewired when we first moved in 5.5 years ago, and we'd never bothered to redecorate, so great patches of tiles were missing, and we had a little bit of subsidence, so there was a big crack in the wall floor to ceiling... and it was tiny, so all in all I don't feel bad about replacing it! Maybe when it's all done I'll post some before and after photos - depends how pleased I endup with the end result!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 30/09/2009 13:07

I have exciting news! Well, I'm excited... I've booked for a 4d scan next Friday afternoon - woo hoo!

Dizzyclarebear · 30/09/2009 13:18

oh god I'm huge already and been in maternity stuff for weeks! Apparently it's because I'm short and there's no where else for the baby to go than out.. People at work etc keep saying 'can't be long now' then are shocked when I said I'm expecting a january baby...

Anyway, having got a couple of pairs of under bump trousers, I'd go for the less sexy over bump option - my bump keeps pushing them down further.

On the pram front, can someone help me be less stupid - do I need to get one with a proper pram top or are buggy styles ok?

Dizzyclarebear · 30/09/2009 13:19

oh, cantthinkofafunnyname - that's very exciting! At the risk of sounding a bit rude, how much does that cost?

crumpette · 30/09/2009 13:31

howdy folks

so I am sitting here at my desk (yes, still employed! ) and 5 people in the office are not in because they officially have swine flu and are on tamiflu at present. Worryingly some were in on Monday and one of whom I spoke to at close proximity by the water cooler!

I don't want to seem paranoid, but there's no policy as yet for health and safety and pregnant women (3 of us now) in the office.

Other than that no dramas, I woke up looking really fat. Am wearing maternity trousers and a regular top but the thing is I don't even look pregnant, there is no visible bump anymore, the whole of my tummy has got bigger and I just look really fat!!! I'm a bit miffed I would prefer to look pregnant, at 26 or 27 weeks, than just a bit porky!

I think some people must think I am faking it to have time off!

as for buying things, DP is now convinced that being told 'boy' at the scan is unreliable as there was no w*lly visible just a round thing, he drew what he saw and I guess it could be either, but I don't really think an experienced sonographer would say boy if she wasn't sure, anyway I digress, the buying of things has been put on hold until I definitely know it's a boy or not, as already have tons of girls clothes. I have a cot etc already, have already bought a car seat which was reduced, hurrah, a maxi-cosi cabriofix one, and have wasted lots of money on a babybjorn synergy carrier. Had a babybjorn active carrier with DD and it was the best thing I bought but stupidly gave it away when she got too heavy for it..

anyway back to work.. hope everyone is OK?
I have a mild massive dentist phobia so don't envy you mama!!

Biccy · 30/09/2009 13:38

What do you mean by a proper pram top, dizzy?

I have a pramette, so it's (almost) a 'proper' pram in pram mode, and I think I'm going to be glad of it with a winter baby as I don't think the footmuff thingy for buggy mode would work very well with a tiny baby - but somebody who has actually used a buggy style with a newborn in winter will be better placed to offer an opinion on that.

Not many buggy ones lie flat though, and they often say suitable from birth, even when I didn't think they were (as they only reclined).

Dizzyclarebear · 30/09/2009 13:48

OK - that sort of answers it, Biccy - I meant one that isn't just a lie flat buggy. If they don't properly recline, then I guess I need one with a pramette/carry cot type affair on top...

Crumpette - SF - you'd be having symptoms by tomorrow if you'd picked up from someone you worked with on Monday.

Biccy · 30/09/2009 14:07

Oh, don't get me wrong, I was thinking more about the cosy toe versus pram cover as the pram 'top'.. I@m sure some buggies probably do recline fully - I just think you have to go and look and try for yourself and not necessarily rely on blurb that says suitable from birth, or that says they lie flat, IYSWIM, I know my O'baby buggy doesn't go flat enough for a baby, but a dearer buggy might?

Personally I think I would have hated putting a newborn in a buggy though, as I just needed to be able to see her as we were going along, and I'm not sure the straps would have gone small enough when she was first born, and I'd have wanted her strapped into a buggy - in the pram she could just lie there because the pram has sides. But, it's all so very personal.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 30/09/2009 14:14

I'm having the 4d scan at The Hendon Clinic (near me) at I think its pretty cheap at around £150. You can get them done at various London clinics/private hospitals etc but the norm is from £200-£300. BUT you do get CD of 3d still images, print outs of photos and a DVD of the movie of baby swimming around, sucking thumb etc - how cool is that!

sockmonkey · 30/09/2009 18:24

I can't believe some of you are only just getting into maternity wear. I've been in mine for a good couple of months now.

Baby is very active on a night. It's been very hard to sleep with what feels like a bag of snakes in my belly. As soon as a lay down it's disco time. I'm betting this baby is going to be born with either boots or boxing gloves on!

Mama2b5 · 30/09/2009 19:20

hi i survived the trauma of the poking and proding and then the dentist! not much done but boy was my mouth numb for ages! i am such a baby when it comes to getting fillings so have put it off for ages but hey it cant get any worse then child birth so i'm braving it and getting some work done! i have a wonderful denist and shes so aare of my fear and kept telling what she was doin and gave me a timeline!
she suggested to get all silver fillings removed and put white ones instead so i said OK! so thats whats going to happen, i have already had root treatment and so that the worse pain ever!!!! in your mouth! i never get pain i am a test case study they cant believe how long its been that i have had no treatment! 2006 shame! if i could book having teeth done whilst in labour i would because then the pain would be shared! yes i can now and se hardly any silver now! 2 more to go and im done!
i want to get a 4d picture but think i will wait for a while so it can be really detailed!sucking thumb, having hiccups!etc
as i said leaving DH to get buggy! he picked the car so why not! POSSTOS - wot car do you have ? we have just gotten a 7 seater volvo! its so neat am loving it!
my bump is quite small actually i think the baby is in my bum are because when i tell people im 23 wks they say NO!!! your not! "ok i say" ! "you should know i guess"!
have physio tomo about my SPD and then from that i will think about talking to HR about mat leave! im in size 14 mat jeans and im loving it! can fit into 16 mat top, i like the ones with slogans on it like "mind the bump and "yummy mummy"and I love my Baby bump! may have to wear them after i have baby for a while!

lilacpink · 30/09/2009 20:04

Hi All

I'm about to have my kitchen redone too, we'd originally planned everything 2 years ago, but DD was only 1 yr old and we couldn't face it in the end. Now we think if we don't change it now we won't do it for years again. We have broken drawer fronts, holey laminate& floor and I'm excited as we will have a dish washer for the first time too (instead of that being me)

On the subject of prams - I liked and have kept my silvercross travel system (pushchair with car seat back facing). It's big, but my DD was always comfy in it and as I don't have to drive/travel distances could always get her out to lie flat between uses. She was also angled directly to my face, due to the carseat having a slight 'curve' so I could walk along and talk to her. Just have to check it will fit in my boot now as I have changed my car since first using it

Crumpette now there are more preg women in your office, has this helped stopped the nasty comments? Hope so!

My husband asked me if I was a magpie the other day while fixing some drawers stuffed full of things (I've been squirreling away baby items for awhile - I love a bargain so can't help buying early!).

crumpette · 30/09/2009 20:04

dizzy thanks I'm sure I'll be fine... any symptoms will be psychosomatic and just me not wanting to be at work !!!

re the buggy question, I never had a proper pram top for any of my buggies with DD, but most buggies are suitable from 6 months or so and if you don't get the pram top I'd recommed finding a buggy that either faces you and can recline, or that can have a car seat that clips on. I personally am not a fan of pram tops, because lots of them are kind of ugly and heavy but that may be because I had DD in a baby carrier and only rarely used a buggy until she was older

mama2b5 glad you survived! I badly need to go to the dentist but keep putting it off.. dreading it!!!

crumpette · 30/09/2009 20:09

lilacpink alas it has not stopped the comments but that's another story...!!! counting down the days until I leave...! Good luck with the kitchen, I had a new dishwasher installed a few years ago which doesn't need replacing just yet but is def getting a bit less efficient (DP)

somewhathorrified · 30/09/2009 20:16

timette I'm really not into things that hug my tummy, hate big pants and waist height trousers, that's why I went for the under bump option. I'm currently at the point where I undo the zipper of my jeans if I'm going to sit for long periods of time. In fact the biggest concern I have about the whole childbirth thing is the big pants you need to wear afterwards and the maternity pads...I've always been a strict tampon girl.

I really need to go to the dentist too. But I haven't been for a while (about 14yrs ). Do you need to tell the dentist that you have an nhs maternity card before you register? Can they refuse to take you because we don't pay?

Mama2b5 · 30/09/2009 20:20

I have a wonderful dishwashing it called DD she is of an age that im preparing her for life(15) she also cooked the dinner tonite i opted for soup due to sore mouth, but the other DC enjoyed it, so well done DD!
Timmette- how was the soup today?
yes i survived the dentist!!!!( dancing "i did it!, like dora!)
Crumpette- go, be brave nothing beats child birth! i regret not going before, because now cant take strong painkillers!
sockmonkey- i love it now when he moves at night- its quiet time for just me and him! i have my hand on my belly and i find he hits it like he is saying HI!

I LOVE THIS PAGE

Mama2b5 · 30/09/2009 20:51

im watching "dont tell the bride" and im crying why!!!! poor lauren she was so emotional thinking she wasnt having a church wedding and the dress she was beautiful and a size 8!!!!!!

Fraochsmum · 30/09/2009 21:49

On that note, I went to the shop to get my wedding dress altered (it's 6 weeks on Saturday, got a brand new maternity one from Ebay) at lunchtime. As the lady was pinning the straps she managed to prick herself. This was followed a minute later by a cry of "Oh my god!", when I looked down to see her blood all over the hem of my ivory dress! Yeah, bit of a joke getting married in white...
I thought she was actually going to die, and it was all I could do not to laugh at the situation. Anyhoo, I left her to get it off with her saliva (apparently that is the only thing that will get your blood off), I'm sure it won't be a bother. She did mention she had just got over shingles though, which wiped the smirk off my face!
Jezzo crumpette, could things get any more uncomfortable for you in that office?
I too hate shopping, so intend to start my Xmas shopping when I spend the day in Glasgow on Friday (as well as sorting out registrar stuff and wed venue things) - really don't think I could face it when mega preggers. I have a Silver Cross 3D and car seat (though DP wants a Rocaro when he's old enough...), which was in the MC sale a couple of months ago and my mummy very generously bought it for us! I have it already, very pragmatic wee sister was going on about current economic climate, businesses going under etc. so thought it was best just to bite the bullet. Getting crib and loads of other stuff from big sister, and think we will be overwhelmed with pressies from people in the town after birth so don't want to go daft on the clothes front.
I told work I will be starting mat leave on the 4th Jan (due 6th) - it is a pt desk job and we close on the 23rd Dec anyway. Main job is a bit more tricky - I am a prject manager for all Argyll & the Isles so requires lots of travel (this month I did 1200 miles!). I'm thinking of finishing sometime in Dec but need to work out how many holidays/lieu days I can carry over, because I have 4 1/2 weeks hols to take and 2 weeks lieu days this financial year.
Maternity grant will be spent on a front manifold for the exhaust
My bump is coming along nicely and starting to get help loading things in B&Q etc. Have put on 1 1/2 stones so far, though DP thinks 1/2 in each boob. My wedding dress is still an 8/10 though, albeit with an expandible bit!
DP is very jealous of all people having futher scans cause he is desperate to see cashew again. Still, he is loving talking to him and seeing him move all the time.
Sorry this is so long, haven't been on for a while!

Biccy · 30/09/2009 22:28

somewhathorrified, you don't necessarily have to use those enormous maternity pads for long - I think I used them for two days, then moved onto ultrathin high absorbency eco ones (it's important to get them with natural coverings), and, erm, well, basically I don't think you'll be desperate to use a tampon straight after giving birth...

Well done mama2b5 with your day; and I know what you mean about enjoying that quiet time with the baby, even if it does keep you up a little bit... and I watched don't tell the bride last night, and I was crying too, I was so impressed with how she accepted beforehand that it wouldn't be a church wedding, and how lovely she was about how the shoes were the wrong colour, and I really felt for her when she didn't want to leave for the wedding because her baby wanted her...

Mama2b5 · 30/09/2009 23:07

fraochsmum- Congrats on the wedding wow 6 weeks!
its going to be great and such a wonderful thing when baby gets older can say "there u r in all our pictures"
good luck on searching for venue i hope you find the right place for you!
Biccy -my DH loved putting his hand on my belly and waiting for the movements to begin always right on time!
DP also kindly rubs bio oil on my baby bump which is nice and we njoy that closeness!DH has been so great i know he just loves me being pregnant he likes taking over and being in charge, and his "cant wear heels anymore"statement that i had to go with because im in so much pain so i cant - thank god for the good weather we have had! also got some lovely boots that i wear with my leggings and long cardi's from primark! wonderful in all colours!
-Is anyone thinking of getting a 4d scan done? if so where in London? seen some but kinda pricey! and i cant help thinking the money should be spend on something better!

timmette · 01/10/2009 07:23

somewhathorrified yes not a fan of big pants etc either and was a tampon girl too, but luckily only bled for 3 days after ds, but there is no dignity anyway when the midwife changes your pad for you. .

Mama2b5 soup was good and very healthy felt very proud of myslef until I ate half a box of choc fingers . I am the only dishwasher here although dh has suggested we just buy a dishwasher and then when we do the kitchen we can use it anyway. Am very tempted.
Also thinking of a 4d scan I am tempted but have no good reason as at every appointment I am scanned here so see lots of the little one and will feel a little guilty that I didn't get one for ds.

Fraochsmum · 01/10/2009 08:29

That's true mama2b5, mind you I was very surprised how un-pregnant I looked in the dress (it is quite Grecian looking). Still 6 weeks on and it could be a very different story! We have the venue sorted, a beautiful art club in the city. All that's left to sort is a few nights after the wedding, but I'm hoping a friend with contacts can pull strings for a good deal at Gleneagles (she has already managed to get a great price on a Malmaison suite for that night). My stepdad is trying to get us all over to Rio De Janeiro at Easter with all the family so that could be our proper honeymoon - but need to see how it will be with a few-month-old and the finances to boot!
