Wow you've all been busy shopping. I'm going to start next month, although I have already bought a really cute little rattle when I went to buy my maternity jeans.

Mmmmm maternity jeans. They are so comfy. Have the ones with a huge big elastic bit over my stomach. Sounds horrendous but they feel mmmmmmmm.

Welcome DJAmber, I'm also due on 1st Jan with my first. It's a girl. Do you know what flavour you are having?

What prams/ travel system is everyone getting? We are thinking of a Silver Cross Linear Freeway with the car seat. Seems to have everything so hopefully worth paying a bit more money, and should last as can be used from newborn to pushchair. Hopefully no one's had any bad experiences with Silver Cross stuff?

Mama2b5 · 26/09/2009 22:02

Welcome newbie DJamber- this si a good choice and a great forum enjoy and share!

Bethoo- ermmm my DH is a cheshire cat grinning from ear to ear his BOY! its funny because his mate is going to be a first time dad expecting a boy in march and we had to tell him its much harder to produce girls then boys so it was not his best work!

CTOFN- we women r great at muti tasking and you get so much done when DH aint around enjoy the peace when kids r in bed bath and relax!

Sockmonkey - i know i have always noticed it whilst buying things for my friends sons oh well i may have to turn designer and get some good boy clothes on the market!

im loving mat jeans just got a bag of old goodies from my DH cousin just had her 3rd girl so dont have to buy sooooo happy! 3 pairs of mat jeans and a perfect fit with extra space!

not running to go shopping for the big items just yet good thing of jan babies the sales r on! so bargins all the way i hope from birthday to birthday!

sockmonkey · 27/09/2009 07:55

Dsis has offered us her 3 wheeler Graco. Are 3 wheelers any good? School run involves a steep hill and I'm wondering how it will cope if we have snow again next year.

Not sure I really need to buy much else, we still have cot, but may be due a new matress for it. Same sister has girls and is passing on clothes. It's great coming from a big family, I haven't had to buy any more maternity stuff, and everything gets passed around.

Anyone claimed their Health in Pregnancy grant yet? I've heard there is a bit of a backlog and some aren't getting the money until after their babies are born. (I've already spent the oney several times over in my head )

timmette · 27/09/2009 09:52

Hi DJamber. Clairedb I got a Mama Papas Skate and I have a Maclaren also for when the baby is older - but that is from ds.

sazlocks · 27/09/2009 14:17

afternoon all - not claimed grant yet but have spent it all in my head already !
haven't bought anything for the baby apart from a cheap travel cot at the NCT sale and need to buy a couple of new matresses. We have got everything else and more from DS so we don't have anything big to buy - luckily as beyond skint......................
New baby is going to be a sling for a while like DS was so hopefully will get away with existing (Baby Jogger) 3 wheeler with a buggy board rather than having to trade it for a double buggy eeeeeeeeek

welcome Djamber

Morning guys. My next MW appointment is on the 12th oct so will get the grant thing signed and sent off then. Bit confused tho as the MW said to get the form from the job centre, since found that she's supposed to have them...so not quite sure what to do now.

Bit stressed this morning as had to endure MiL yesterday! Why do we put up with them?

hi all

hope you all had good weekends

welcome DJAmber

Mama2b5 did you say its much harder to get girls than boys if so my dh will be well chuffed. i have boy from previous relationship but then have 3 girls with dh (got one over on the ex eh! ) don't know what no 5 will be.

i'm not sure about prams, i have a new travel cot and am going to use moses basket from other dcs. i wanted a mamas & papas pramette but then was told that someone had a faulty one and mamas and papas were very unhelpful after the 5th time of the wheel falling of

baby having a good ole run around as i sit here at work working typing on mn. only 10 wks to mat leave "woohoo", i think i am annoying everyone here as i keep saying it .

FifiForgot · 28/09/2009 12:44

Party I had a pramette with DD. We had no problems with M&P, they even relpaced the carseat totally when a bit fell off (my fault!) and couldn't get a replacement. We have a M&P shop near us, so maybe that made a difference with the customer service. Several friends of mine also have them and haven't had any issues. I can recommend it - smallish, easy to fold and no carry cot to take on and off. Having said all that, I still want a Micralite Toro!

I've only got 8 weeks to go before I finish - can't wait!

Welcome DJAmber

Sorry for quick post - at work and need to be quick!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/09/2009 13:18

Morning all - not much to add to any posts this morning really, just wanted to say hi. Monday is my housework day which also means its now severe backache day! Just settled down to watch Loose Women, which entertains me no end. Tee hee - I can't actually believe I'm a lady of leisure/housewife/stay at home mum etc now - up til Jan of this year was a 14 hour a day worker - still getting used to it!!

sockmonkey · 28/09/2009 16:28

Anniemac - I think it is that one. Maybe I'll keep a look out for something with 4 wheels. Was planning on using a sling to start off with as the boy's school don't really allow prams inside for "health & safety" reasons.

Mama2b5 · 28/09/2009 17:43

yes well i have read it on a few sites that girls r much harder to have then boys dont know if its true so dont quote me! i know of several people that after a drunken nite has conceived and its been boys so of course maybe the swimmers were drunk! my DH doesnt drink so we have nothing to blame it on apart from it not being his best work, but we r both so happy with the outcome they forget it them who decide the child sex

ok for all who can see the finish line of work fast approaching lucky u i cant wait, and im not due until jan so have a bit to go although finding it hard due to sleepless nites and low energy! cant wait to be home cant wait to be home( clicking heels togethers)

Oh im so leaving the buggy picking to my DH he thinks its like buying a car and wants to get the right one that takes alot of planning

DJAmber · 28/09/2009 20:01

Hi all. Thanks for the welcome.

ClaireDB - I'm having a girl too, all very exciting.

I notice you have all been shopping, haven't had a chance yet myself but looking forward to it when I do. We've been fortunate to get a lot of things given to us as a relative recently had twins and has passed loads of stuff our way. It's been a godsend to be honest.

hi just thought i would put this link here for people to look at their rights while at work -
www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternit yrights/DG_10026556

this link will also bring you to the pregnancy grant - which all are entitled regarding if working or not!
to claim 25th weeks or more.

lilacpink · 28/09/2009 22:49

Hi All

I'm trying to plan leave now too. I could leave work in 10weeks (early Dec), as have leave saved that would then take me up to Christmas, but I'm not sure whether to stay another week or 2 and use some leave just after Christmas (will have a year off so will accrue extra leave before I return). I was late with DD by 2 weeks, so I'm thinking if this one is late I may want to work later (get paid into New Year, baby due 10th). On the other hand, leaving sooner sounds great already!

Any third time Mums have any advice on whether it's better to leave earlier or later with a second baby?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/09/2009 08:04

third time mum here.... my advice would be to leave work earlier rather than later as the effects on your body seem far greater third time around - well, that's just my experience anyway! We do need rest before the LO comes along and it is much harder when you have another two to look after plus work!

From my side, fainting has now started in earnest. I fainted a lot with my first two and thought I'd got off light so far with this one - but no, it started this morning. All very odd and not textbook at all. As with the other 2, it starts in 2nd trimester (although I'm only one week away from 3rd!) and always when sitting or lying, don't have to be standing or getting up etc. This morning I was on the loo!! Came around on the floor. Then it goes on for a few hours, think I'm fine, move and the ears go and cold sweats again, then I know its time to lie back down quickly with feet in the air. Charming. And and and, every time I mentioned it to Drs/midwifes on previous pgs, they just looked at me very odd, did blood tests, urine etc and said "well everything is normal".

Great. This mornign I'm now wondering how the hell I get DD 6 to school without falling over in the street, or worse, at the wheel!

timmette · 29/09/2009 09:38

CantThinkoffunnyname do you have low blood pressure? Have you tried eating every two hours that's what my gynae suggested for me that and keeping well hydrated and I can really feel the difference when I remember to do it.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/09/2009 10:08

Timmette - not sure re BP. Tbh I've always had really high BP but this pg so far has seen v low for me (average 110/60 ish) but noone has said its low, just everything fine. Can't stop drinking so hydration shouldn't be a problem. Will try eating more

bethoo · 29/09/2009 10:45

mamab congrats on your boy! xx so there is hope for my dp then as this is his third girl having 2 wiht ex wife and the third wiht me so maybe there is a chance of another attempt next year for me??? then whether another girl or not we will stop at 4!!! need a life outside pregnancy and the labour ward! >>
i worked up til 3 days til dd born though that was holiday leave thank god as went into labour on the friday which had i not taken hol would have been at work as she was 3 days early. this time round though i will be leaving work end of nov as getitng redundancy so no maternity pay so will be pretty hard gong esp as lose house with job so have few months to apply for council accommodation. yes that is me, leave it to last minute Lil!!! and i have animals which the some housing associations will not have in their houses, yes i should get rid but my old dog is old and decrepid and could not get rid of him, had him for 9 years and hte kids adore him as well as the cats and hte puppy...............

devotion · 29/09/2009 13:32

Hello everyone, need to read all the messages - so behind.

CantThinkoffunnyname - that is awful that you have to experience that. It happened quite alot to my friend too through her three pregnancies but not as much you.

My friend has struggled with her weight her whole life and is very skinny, she had all tests done growing up but they could never find a reason for her being underweight even though she has a hearty appetite. They suggested she fainted alot when pregnant because she was underweight her body was taking all the nutrients etc for the baby.

Not sure if that could be your case too?

Sounds like its not really safe for you to drive though, maybe you should just walk or use public transport for now. Not only safer for everyone but that way you will have people around you to help if you do faint.

Could you not get friends mums to drop your dd to and from school to help out?

You sounds very brave about it all, I would be a nervous wreck. I need some of what you got

Take care
x

FlightofFancy · 29/09/2009 13:34

Hi all,
Just back from a week in sunny France so trying to catch up on where everyone is. Congrats to everyone who has had good scan news etc.

Reading what you're all up to as a first-timer, I wanted to check I'm not being really stupid/naive: am planning to work up until end of first week in Jan (due date isn't until twenty-something and have desk-based job with lots of options for working from home if commute in to London gets too much) as want to use accrued hols then (can't afford to take full 12 months off) so don't start maternity pay until just before due date.

Also, haven't bought/researched/made list of anything we need yet and wasn't planning to buy anything until Nov/Dec at the very earliest - and possibly in Jan sales. We've got a really small house and need to get rid of spare bed and some other furniture before we can create anything approaching a nursery. I've got a few friends who've offered second hand stuff, so planning to pin them down on what they actually have soonish, but nothing more. Am I leaving it far too late? are there ridiculous delivery delays on baby stuff? can you not just walk out of the shop with pram/car seat etc when you buy it?

It sounds awful, but my thinking is that if baby is really early (touches wood that it's not) he/she will be in hospital for long enough to do emergency shopping - and whether we've got the 'right' colour/style of kit will be the least of my concerns.

Otherwise, I'd rather not be worrying about where on earth I'm going to store stuff between now and Jan...

Tell me I'm not going to get a nasty suprise! Any advice welcome...
