As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

i thought i read somewhere (prob BBC News) htat the swine flu jab had not been tested 100% so not sure of the effects on pregnancy.
swine flu will have same symptoms as normal flu as i feel it is just hyped up by the media to sell papers and throw us into a mad panic so i doubt i will be having the jab. am a bit unsure of its safetly not only to hte baby but to me tbh! feel it has been rushed onto the shelves so to say! will see what my mw says as she is pretty clued up on these things and has sound advice.

sleepingalot · 27/08/2009 14:11

Thanks FifiForgot that's reassuring. And thanks Dal21 full fat coke it is!

Don't think I'll be having swine flu vaccine either, am also nervous about how much it has been tested and I haven't so much as taken a paracetamol since being pregnant (even though have had several headaches) so very reluctant.

On the weight side of things, it is rapidly progressing. Have put on 17 pounds so far But I just can't stop eating chocolate . But I just figure that this is the one time I can get away with it without feeling too guilty

Good luck with the move Londonlottie. Hope you managed to buy everything you wanted before the big day.

Hello and welcome joanna22pink.

MRSVICTOR · 27/08/2009 18:38

Thanks quirkychick, Amnio went as well as an amnio can I suppose, results next Tue or Wed which is better than I thought. To help me 'rest' i've bought a new kettle and some candles on line. List likely to get much longer.

Hmmn i'm also worried about the swine flu vaccine so will give it a miss or do further research. I'l just keep eating my greens and carry on my addiction of using hand gel- i squirt anything that sits still with the stuff.

I'm defo going to weigh myself tomorrow, could be 8lbs could be 3 stone. I just feel big...

CantThinkofFunnyName · 27/08/2009 19:04

Evening all, I will DEFINITELY be having the swine flu jab - the first of us on here I think. I have the flu jab every year as I'm in the high risk group of being asthmatic and regardless of that, I still end up pretty ill at one time or another with flu which then becomes a chest infection, or like earlier this year, pneumonia! A month or so ago I had to go to the doctors for something entirely unrelated and came over unwell whilst in the waiting room, had a bit of a temperature and a sore throat. Doctor ordered me home for bed rest immediately but not before a little chat about how, if I did contact swine flu, we would struggle on drugs. Relenza, which they give to pregnant women apparently should NOT be used by asthmatics. The other option is tamiflu, which should not be used by pregnant women. I'll therefore do whatever I can to avoid getting it - or even the "normal" flu. Urgh - I think I'll just hibernate between Oct-Feb!

My scan tomorrow - at this stage don't want to find out the sex, but thinking I might be like a little girl on Xmas eve wanting to rip open the presents. My preference is for a girl, but have a sneaking suspicion its a boy. Like other posters, I will probably deal with the "disappointment" better once bub is in my arms all lovely and snuggly.

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 27/08/2009 23:16

Hi everyone. I am new to this, is it okay if i join. i'm expecting baby number 5 on the 16th January 2010 . i already have a son 16, then 3 girls 11, 7, 6 so not bothered what flavour this one is but as i've not had a boy for so long i'm more used to girls it may be easier. i'm 19+ weeks and still not feeling movement went to see mw today heartbeat heard and strong, she said placenta may be at front, like someone said the other day (i've not heard of it before) but confirmed it with mw friend of mine who said it could be true.
I've got my 20 week scan next wednesday. was going to have the blood tests and everything (i'm 36) but decided against it and feel much less stressed about it i just figured that no matter what my odds are if i'm the one then so be it, we'll cope. i tried to add myself to the list but i'm IT illiterate so couldn't do it, help!!

Morning everyone - I've woken up with really really sore swollen gums on one side of my mouth. Did some research and looks like possibly pregnancy gingivitis! Is there any part of your body this darn condition doesn't affect? Really, I think I got off rather lightly with my previous 2 pg's in comparison with this one!! So, better have a shower and phone the dentist I think to see what they can do. Humph.

'Morning all! Had my scan yesterday everything's looking good, turns out it's a boy. The weird thing was on the journey home I started to feel a little sad, like I'd lost a baby girl, it wasn't as if I was hoping for a girl...very odd.

Time to start the shopping spree...after todaY'S job of laying the flooring in the nusery, going with a laminate (easy to wipe up baby fluids, esp the fountain effect that boys like to do).

bethoo · 28/08/2009 10:07

congrats somewhathorrified when you are handed your son after labour your heart will melt straght away, mine did and even now every time i look at my ds i want to cry with happiness he is so gorgeous in every way! of course i adore my dd aswell!

FifiForgot · 28/08/2009 10:07

Morning!

CantThinkofFunnyName I'm with you there - I am STILL feeling rough at 18 weeks. I feel like I've been pregnant forever and can't wait for it to be over, or at least to feel better! With DD I sailed through and found it easy. What a shock this time!

LondonLottie Good luck with the move, make DH do all the hard work! Hope the scan goes well.

I've been potty training DD this week. All things considered, its going well, but it is making me feel rather ill. Still, its got to be done.

Back to work on Tuesday having had a week off. My lovely GP has said that I have cut my hours or she will sign me off. I just have to break the news to work now. Not going to go down very well, but what can you do?

Good luck to all those having scans in the next few days and welcome to the new mummies-to-be.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/08/2009 10:10

Dentist not working today so will have to wait til Tuesday to get these gums looked at. In the meantime, think lots of brushing, flossing and mouthwash. AND was just hoovering the stairs, doorbell went and I slipped down a couple of stairs. Didn't fall but jolted my pelvis and the pain is now horrid. Had SPD after birth of my DC2 and think that this may have just started it all off again.

bethoo · 28/08/2009 10:50

(cantthinkiffunnyname* corosdyl is great for your gums if you have ulcers or bleeding gums. get the strong stuff not the daily wash one. bit pricey but great, i use it if i panic about gum disease or think my teeth are looling bad! clears up bleeding gums fast.
i wonder how people must portray me now what with carpet of dog hair and bleeding gums! lovely! surprised i am pregnant

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/08/2009 10:57

Thanks Bethoo. Can remember having Corsodyl years ago. Going to try to get DS to pop around chemist for me in a mo as I'm now laid up on sofa barely able to move after slipping down stairs. Have anomaly scan later, wondering how I'm going to get up on the couch! Bloody hell, not a great day thus far.

bethoo · 28/08/2009 11:06

you may develop SPD again which is common if already had it. your hips are more vulnerable now. i remember in my last pregnancy wiht dd i think i had sciatica as my back was in bits and it was only after a month or so after having her that it finally cleared up but it was agony walking. spent my whole time waddling with my back almost bent backwards at a 90 degree angle! copuld barely get in and out of the car! sadly all i was offered was paracetamol which barely touches any pain tbh unless you take it before you are in pain! so my sympathies with the hip injury! so my only advice now is milk it for all it is worth!

Fraochsmum · 28/08/2009 11:11

Wow, I pop away for a couple of days and miss 2 pages!
I was starting to run a pre-employability course this week, unfortunately I encountered 2 seizures and a diabetic hypo...they are all fine now though, but my stress levels are through the roof!
Will try and remember what has been posted on those:
Welcome Party!
Dizzy - we redecorated every room in our new house, bar the kitchen, and the only thing I avoided were the gloss paint and woodworm treatment. It will say on the tin which have high VOC's.
CTOFN - that sounds rather painful, just wat you don't need on top of your gums...
Swine flu - I am not prone to getting anything that comes around normally and also feel that there is a huge amount of scaremongering going on in the press. However the latest death in Scotland was this week in Islay, so if it comes to our wee town (6,500 ppl) I might just reconsider getting a jab.
I have put on a stone so far, but haven't had any cravings nor am I eating more than I normally do - DP says I alwys ate for 2 anyway!
Crumpette, what is their excuse/reasoning for paying you so much less? Is it an oversight or mistake that they have said they will rectify? I think it would be very wise to contact a company like ACAS to help.

quirkychick · 28/08/2009 11:39

Corsodyl is really good for gums - do you need to check if it's ok for pg? I had some bleeding a few weeks ago, but I've started flossing and it's cleared up.

CantThinkofFunnyName that's interesting, I am asthmatic too. Last October I had horrendous flu/chest infection with steroids and antibiotics. I had flu jab once I was better and also the pneumococcal (sp?) which are supposed to help with swine flu. I'm undecided really.

I have taken loads of drugs (legal, obviously) this pg. I'm on daily heparin, I have also taken paracetamol and some gaviscon for heartburn (already, I think it's the spicy food addiction!).

bethoo · 28/08/2009 11:49

mouthwash is ok for pregnancy though would say on the bottle if not. i had strepsils last time and got mixed advice and dd turned out ok even though i ate them like sweets!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/08/2009 18:34

Hello again all. Well, I've started on the strong Corsodyl and feel a bit better on the gums already. Had my scan - little blighter was not playing ball and had the sonographer chasing it all over the place. It was lying upside down most of the time and then turned right at the end for the photo moment - tee hee. I said when we went in that we didn't want to know the sex, which was just as well as little one wasn't showing anyway!

I then got referred over to the Day Unit to check out the pelvis thing. Obviously baby ok, but my pain wasn't. So - its not SPD, but is, apparently a groin strain! No football for me at the moment then. Co-dydramol prescribed, plus bed/sofa rest, plus physio. A lazy bank holiday weekend coming up but there's bugger all on TV!!!!

The only other thing to report from the scan (other than bubs being ok) is that I have confirmed (again) that my date is a week earlier than LMP date and definitely definitely due on 7 January now. Which, I'm sure will mess up the c-section dates completely bringing me now to a Xmas Eve date if operated on 2 weeks prior to due date. Do not want Xmas Eve! No way I want to miss Xmas at home with my other two DCs. Consultant on Tuesday so I guess we'll talk about dates then.

SPD is a real pain now - my pelvis 'clicks' in the mornig when I first get up and aches most of day - I won't see physio until second week of Sept so I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. I put on so much extra weight the first time round with my DD, that I'm surprised I didn't have it then: although maybe as I put it all over it may have been distibuted more evenly

On swine flu - I think we'll get info through the post/from midwife. I'll wait to read that, but and will look at the infection rate figures. The last thing I heard is that 1)it's not spreading so fast and 2)it has't mutated. If this is another media frenzy like the 'bird flu' thing then I won't have it done, but if still spreading I'd look into it more.

sazlocks · 28/08/2009 21:31

quicky email - sorry not caught up with everything on last few pages as off on hols for a couple of weeks tomorrow and not finished packing yet eeeeeeeeeeek
welcome to newbies, good luck to anyone else having scans the next couple of weeks - my 20 week scan booked 15th Sept and have a MW and consultant appt that week too so I will have lots to post about

OP posts:
sleepingalot · 28/08/2009 22:05

Had second 20 wk scan today and all was well with baby's heart. A stressful few days for us but soooooo happy now.

somewhathorrified · 29/08/2009 08:38

tbh I'm not sure about the flu jab...if it was purely my decision I wouldn't bother, just like I don't bother with the seasonal one. However having said that DH is a little more concerned about the whole thing so when it becomes available we'll have to discuss it...after all it's his baby too.

Dizzyclarebear · 29/08/2009 09:08

hey all, great news (well, for me!) the fallen through house purchase is back on - although rather than moving next week, they can't complete until 20th Oct (long dull story) - beginning to stress about moving - was thinking I'd struggle now, but nearly 2 more months, I'm not exactly going to be much use...

party - wow - that's rather a houseful! I guess the older ones can help (hopefully!)
