As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

timmette do you want to swap?

i guess i may try again next year as cant leave it too long and if girl then not destined to have another boy after all! but i will love them all the same, just be surrounded by sanitary towels for the next 20 years

timmette · 19/08/2009 19:43

Maybe just for a day so I can buy pretty dresses and stuff - but I love my ds and I will love this one too.
I won't be trying again this is our last. 65 years of no girls on dh side of the family means my chances are slim I think - lol

Fraochsmum · 19/08/2009 21:32

No you're not being a cow! Glad it all went well though and you will be pleased everything is alright. I am so convinced cashew is a boy(my very first thought when I saw the test result), that I will be in shock when MW says "It's a wee girl". Can you tell it's my first time and I've seen too many films...

kittykat765 · 19/08/2009 22:29

Hi everyone. Just checking in briefly before I head off to bed.

Bethoo, you are definitely not being a cow. If you were then that makes me a horrendous cow as my SIL had her baby last friday and I was so dissappointed because it was a girl and I was hoping she'd have a boy and then I would have a girl. As it is, according to my scan today (when baby eventually decided to co-operate) the sonographer reckons this one is probably a girl so looks like team pink for me too.

Hope everyone else is well and your work are not being too awful to you crumpette.

sockmonkey · 20/08/2009 08:09

Bethoo Girls are cheaper to insure and less likely to crash your car... so you can offset that cost against sanitary towels Plus you can pass on clothes... if you've kept them. I am such a cheapskate!! Must be my Yorkshire roots.

timmette Imagine if you do have a girl. How spoilt will she get!! LOL

FlightofFancy · 20/08/2009 12:17

Hi all,
Glad I'm not the only one who secretly wants a particular variety... I must admit I'm keen for a boy, (though obviously a healthy whatever) as I'm not a girly-girl myself and hate the whole pink-ification/Barbie/'silly squeal at wasps' thing that some girls do. I know they're not all like that, but I have visions of fighting against it for years! Not going to find out though as DH doesn't want to, so will be a suprise.

Think I've started to feel baby though, which is very exciting - sort of squirmy and unlike anything else, so must be it! Seems to like public transport (unlike its mother) guess it's the vibrations!

Also in a very good mood as finally told work (at 17 weeks thought I'd better) and found out from HR that I'm entitled to more maternity pay than I thought - I was TUPE'd across from another company a couple of years ago (and didn't bother reading maternity pay for original job as wasn't thinking that way at the time!). So, instead of statutory min, I'm getting the 6 weeks at 90% but then 12 weeks at 50% of salary before going on to basic min. Has made a massive difference to post-baby budget, and might be able to afford a very cheap, UK-based holiday next year instead of nothing!
Sorry for going on, just a bit excitable this week!

bethoo · 20/08/2009 12:28

i am feeling so relieved
when i think if girls i just think of the negative sides as at the end of the day as ladies we can be catty and every girl i have met just wants to snitch on others! but then it coudl be that my ds is such a mummys boys and kisses and cuddles me every morning and the way he says mummy etc is so adorable bt then dd is only 10 months so not at that stage yet when it gets interesting and they start to interact more. even now i am so paranoid she is resenting me already! as you can tell i did not and still dont have a good relationship with my own mum as nothing was ever good enough etc the usual!
trying ot break the chain but now i just think that instead of one dd hating me i will be up against 2! gosh maybe it is because apparantly i was a nightmare and i am dreading history repeating itslef, oh i dont know!
yes i too am feeling the wriggly movement but very rarely, at least once every two days which as this is my third i would have thought i would feel it more! but hten she barely moved on the screen even after a glucose drink and a 100g bar of chocolate so maybe she is just not gong to be athletic!

quirkychick · 20/08/2009 12:33

bethoo I thought dd was going to be a boy and was a little surprised when they said girl. FWIW my dd is not a barbie/pink/princessy girl so they are not all like that! We're more into trousers/trains/cars/lego really. Also, if you have issues with your mum it could help you to have a better relationship with your daughter as you will know what not to do. The scan is not 100% accurate, either.

bethoo · 20/08/2009 13:21

thanks, i will ocme round to the idea and like dp said when they get older it will be more fun. i ma a bit girly in that i like to dress nice and make an effort with my appearance though mentailly i am far from it! so i will look forward to make up nad clothes and yes i will keep all my clothes as they will be retro then! i know i will be more encouraging and positive with my daughters than my own mother was.

somewhathorrified · 20/08/2009 13:58

Isn't the whole point that we don't repeat the mistakes of our parents!

quirkychick · 20/08/2009 14:31

We're a bit like that with a ds, actually. Dp had a bad relationship with his dad, nothing was ever good enough so will be interesting if we have a ds: a chance to put it right.

We're not really tomboys here, more feminine than girly. Too feisty! I just don't personally really like all the barbie/glittery/pink stuff that can be aimed at girls. Dd has got a pair of pink fairy wings but she wears it with baseball trainers and trousers .

alibobins · 20/08/2009 15:37

Well had my scan today and I was wrong turns out baby is a boy
I've got one of each anyway so it really didn't matter. Everything looks fine although my blood pressure is still up and I've got protine in my water. Had some more bloods took and got to see consultant again in 3 weeks when I'm 24 weeks.
If blood pressure continues to be high then they will monitor me in hospital.
It was 154/94 today which is highest its been.

bethoo · 20/08/2009 18:38

alibobins how come you were wrong? did they tell you the wrong sex at 12 weeks? congrats on your little boy

alibobins · 20/08/2009 19:46

bethoo I was convinced I was having a little girl lol it has been so different than it was with ds.

Liskey · 20/08/2009 19:55

Hi ladies

Hope you've all keeping well.

I've a scan booked for Monday which should be exciting - 20 week scan. Can't quite believe that - I'm still not very big though I do have a more solid little bump now - not wearing any maternity clothes yet and i feel a bit of a fraud telling people I'm 19 weeks pregnant. I can tell they don't believe me

We're not going to find out the sex - DH especially doesn't want to. I was muttering after seeing his grandparents that I wanted a girl though - as they kept going on about how they wanted a boy - carrying on the family name - honestly! I've done some family history and they were farm labourers its not a noble lineage! DH doesn't care one way or the other but they really annoyed me.

Pepa · 20/08/2009 19:57

bethoo we are going to have the same then a boy then two girls.....got to admit the thought of the teenage years is more than a little daunting but I have already seen how much easier the toddler stage is with girls (well at least mine) because they are able to talk so much younger. I have been able to avoid a lot of the issues I ran into with ds at the same age, so I guess it will all work out as equal in the end.

btw regarding how you feel right now don't forget the impact of all those wonderful pregnancy hormones - makes rational thought a little difficult! !

lilacpink · 20/08/2009 21:10

Congrats for all the positive scans.

I was so scared thinking about my scan since yesterday, and so when it came to saying the gender today we really didn't care as we were feeling so happy that all was well (she went through measurements/organs first to check).

Its a...boy for me, so now I'll have one of each

I really thought 'he'd' be a boy, and have been referring to him as a boy, but I would equally have been happy with a girl, and think two of the same (whichever variety) is prob easier. Although as my MIL pointed out to me today, there may be less 'competition' if they do like other things.

Good luck for all the other scans coming up.

ClaireDB · 20/08/2009 21:26

Great to hear about all the exciting scans.

I'm having a girl! I didn't mind but I wanted to know, now I'm really happy I can call her 'her' instead of 'it'!

We have also given her a name, Mira.

I'm so excited now!!

dal21 · 21/08/2009 08:50

Wow congrats on all the scans. Mine's not for 3 weeks and same day get back to UK from hols, so hope we're not too jet lagged to take it all in.

I've got an appointment next week with the senior midwife at hospital to go through my notes for DS's traumatic birth. She'd better have a huge box of tissues . She rang yesterday to say had a slot so jumped at the chance to meet before hols in hope I'll feel better after talking it all through.

Feel quite big bump wise. And getting comments. Guy at gym who normally would never dream of actually touching me patted my bump and said who ate all the pies, and when said 17 weeks laughed and said 17 months . Why does he think its now fine to touch me and discuss my figure!!!???
Going to poke his not so rippled abs if he does it again! I'm exercising and eating well, no pies, I just get very big in pregnancy!

Fancy dress party for DS this morning, he's a pirate! We had a lovely party for him last week, 13 toddlers and they were all wonderfully behaved and had a great time.

Have great weekends!

bethoo · 21/08/2009 09:39

feel healthy this morning what with my natural greek yoghurt and fresh blueberries for breakfast. yummy!
my fat stores are going straight to my thighs so now they are horrendously cellulite rippled which just depresses me so tempted to start running again!
talking of names so far baby has been allocated Skye as i made the mistake of saying he could choose this one since i chose the last two! just keep thinking that unless she is tall slim wiht long curly blonde hair and wears floaty dresses and walks barefoot i cant imagine it suiting her! how stereotyped is that? i guess i think Skye is quite hippyish! so i have no idea if i will let him stick with it so may start lookign at names myself. i suggested her middle name be Blue!

maygirl · 21/08/2009 09:40

[Lottie], we had 4D scan at 24 weeks, it was great, and could see him really clearly. Maybe view of twins would be better a bit earlier anyway, while there's still lots of room and they're not cuddled up together yet!

Found out sex with DS, but going for the surprise this time

bethoo · 21/08/2009 09:52

maygirl how much was the 4d scan as we are considering it?
