As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nervoussara - Hoping that all has gone well for you today!

Timmette - ohhh how exciting! A christmas baby! Just a thought for you - a lot of hospitals may ban young children visiting the maternity/ postnatal wards because of the swine flu threat. My hospital already has the ban in place and it will definitely be in place until at least Spring next year. They think a lot of hospitals may adopt a similar policy. So bear in mind that your DS may not be allowed into see you on Christmas day. He may, but he may not.

I have been discussing merits of VBAC with some good friends at work and really am torn about whether to go for another elec cs or try natural labour...anyone here have experience of both??

Crumpette - Do they know what is going on? I assume (that with melted chocolate and apples ) you are at home resting? Have you been signed off for a while?

sockmonkey · 17/08/2009 18:03

Ohhh Crumpette... we are scan twins. I go on the 2nd too!! Now you need to send me over some chocolate and apples so we can properly bond

nervoussara · 17/08/2009 18:41

Well everything is fine. Been told to rest for a couple of days and go back if it happens again. Have slept all day. Hope you guys have had a good day.

timmette · 17/08/2009 18:42

crumpette I am lucky here we get dating scan, nuchal scan, anomoly scan as part of health insurance. The gynae does it in her office and I can get scanned at all other appointments too but then I have to pay about 20 euros towards the cost. So I see the little one very often.
And I am sure dark choc is very good for you.

timmette · 17/08/2009 18:44

nervoussara that's great news.

dal21 thanks for the advice about swine flu - will check with the gynae it's a good point - luckily so far swine flu has not had as big as an impact as it has in the UK.

quirkychick · 17/08/2009 20:14

nervoussara glad all ok with you, it's so scary when you have bleeds.

crumpette glad is all ok with you too. I have my anomaly scan and consultant appt on 4th Sept. I'm sure it will take ages, they usually do. Last time I was there 3hrs!!! I was sent for bloods and to the bowels of the hospital for meds, though.

One advantage of pg is that I really cannot stomach sweet foods at the mo. 1st pg and this one chocolate tastes foul (usually love the stuff). I have however eaten loads of Thai food for dinner, noodles, rice, fish cakes. I think I have truly eaten for 2 .

bethoo · 18/08/2009 09:42

Fraochsmum it may be worth paying to have a scan at 20 weeks as it can check the babys wellbeing and health, finding out the gender is just a bonus to the 20 week scan. but if not then you must have the patience of a saint as i could not wait til labour to find the sex! i will be drinking a glucose drink and a 100g choccy bar to guarnatee a wriggly baby so the sonographer can see the bits and pieces!
somewhathorrified is it sinking in yet that you are having a baby?
crumpette the best way to recover is high energy foods! and plenty of bed rest. i hope that you are off work and take no crap if they have any innapropriate comments when you return to work!
nerwoussara glad that your scan was ok and little baby is fine
timmette i am so jealous!
getting nervous about my scan tomorrow yet excited at the same time! i just hope the bean is healthy.

somewhathorrified · 18/08/2009 10:39

bethoo I'm still in denial tbh...I just see fat (can no longer see my feet). Hubby said I now waddle walk like a pregnant woman! Oooh and I want your dreams... I love horror, although the canibalistic tortioses was a bit much.

crumpette I was under the impression that dark chocolate was good for you, fair enough the caffeine content may be high but there's so much lovely goodness in there and on top of that it makes you feel good, which means baby feels good. Win, win. ...is now off to buy chocolate.

bethoo · 18/08/2009 11:02

somewhathorrified i am sure it is not fat but a perfectly oval bump! i can still hide mine in certain tops! once you see the baby on the screen it will all become real. i guess that becasue this is my third i forget alot of the time as when it is your first it is all you think about ''i am pregnant, i am pregnant...'' over and over in your head, well at least i did!

Fraochsmum · 18/08/2009 12:06

To be honest Bethoo, it wasn't even mentioned that there was an option of having another scan. I just figured if my sample, BP, my tummy felt like it was supposed to, and baby's heartbeat were good, that all was well? She did mention lack of resources so maybe I would have to go to Glasgow for it (150 miles away!). I will ask tomorrow. I still wouldn't ask the sex though - I like surprises! I was the child who wouldn't open any presents before Christmas morning, or feel birthday pressies to see what they were!

bethoo · 18/08/2009 12:41

Fraochsmum- the 20 week scan is an anomoly scan which may pick up things that are not picked up in 12 week scan. i think there is a big hoo ha about it at the moment to why there should be 20 week scan. i am sure there was a thread on it a while back.
though i am the kid who opened the pressies before xmas and then wrapped them back up!

Pepa · 18/08/2009 14:35

Hi everyone - not been here for a while but just wanted to let you know that I have just had my 20 week scan and all is well with my bean and its a little girl!

It was actually really nice, the technician let both my other children and hubby in and my dd was sat on the bed with me squishing the gel on my tummy and my ds was on a little stool next to the technician as she pointed the baby out to them - they were enthralled. My due date is still the 4th Jan.

bethoo · 18/08/2009 20:29

hi Pepa congrats on the scan and congrats on a girl xx
i have my scan tomorrow and getitng nervous yet excited if that is possible!

Pepa · 18/08/2009 21:41

I think feeling both exicited and nervous before a scan is normal. I know I felt that way. I really didn't care about the sex (having already one of each) but theres a niggle in the back of mind of all the bad things right?

I'm sure it will go great and you will get to see your bean so its all good in the end!

sockmonkey · 19/08/2009 07:47

Well, the bub is officially a wriggly one. I have gone from the odd "ooh is that movement" to "there's a party in my tummy". Quite exciting
DS2 is 4 today so will expect post cake baby wiggling.

dal21 · 19/08/2009 08:09

Pepa - congrats on the great scan! Yay!

Bethoo - Good luck today on yours. Cannot believe we are already at the twenty week scan. Is it just me, or is time flying by???

Random question for those with older DC's - did you ever buy your DC's a balance bike? DS is turning 2 shortly and a friend has said that a balance bike would probably make a really good present for him. Any other first hand experiences?

Sockmonkey - enjoy the cake!

bethoo · 19/08/2009 08:17

what is a balance bike?

timmette · 19/08/2009 09:05

dal21 they are very popular over here many children have them they even ride them to school, and a lot of them go on to riding a normal bike without stabilisers - I would def get one for ds but he was given 2 normal bikes as presents - so can't now but for this little one we will.
bethoo goodluck with you scan - a bike without pedals - very good for balance and co ordination.

dal21 · 19/08/2009 13:23

Thanks Timmette. The ones I like are either the Early Rider, or there is a newer one called the micro g bike.

Think we may end up getting the early rider as looks as though it may be better on all terrain (grass, mud etc) as opposed to just concrete.

Bethoo - click on this link and watch the product video! I thought it was unbelievably cute!

micro g bike

somewhathorrified · 19/08/2009 13:32

bethoo if i'm honest it probabaly is a perfectly oval bump. Although I'm not an excitable type of person (unless the situation involves a treacle sponge!) so it's pragmatism and stoicism all the way. I didn't even have an ounce of emotion at the 12 week scan....leaving that side of things to DH.

FifiForgot · 19/08/2009 14:19

Afternoon all.

I'm sorry I have been such a poor poster, I've been off work for 5 weeks (including 2 weeks holiday) with extreme exhaustion and awful headaches. I'm back at work now, but still suffering and feel another visit to the GP coming on! I wasn't like this at all last time round so it has come as a big shock!

I'm way behind on all the posts, but having had a quick skim:

crumpette I'm sorry work are being so awful, take the advice that I have been given (and manage to ignore!) put yourself and the baby first and forget about work - easier said than done, I know!

Pepa Congratualtions on your scan, DD heard the baby's heartbeat on Friday and was distinctly un-impressesed because it didn't say "hello", at least your children were interested!

Bethoo Good luck with your scan

I'm due for my 20 week scan on 16 September and will be seeing my Consultant at some point before that to book my section (awful delivery last time round with 4 hours of emergency surgery under a GA - not doing that again!). Once I've done that I can sort out my maternity leave. I've got 8 weeks leave to take before that so if I am right, I should be leaving work mid-November, only 12 weeks to go - yipee!

Fraochsmum · 19/08/2009 14:44

Everything was fine at my check-up today - DP even got to record the heartbeat on his mobile! My BP was a little low (90/60) which surprised me, especially as I seem to be trying to do a million things at once here. She said it was not worrying, just showed I was very healthy (and after running to the hosital becuse I was late!).
I asked about the scan too, and I would have to travel to Glasgow for it and fund it myself. The MW didn't really think it necessary, as all my bloods etc came back fine and my fundus (is that right?) is a really good size for my dates. That's enought to assure me anyway!
How was yours Bethoo? Bet baby loks huge compared with the last time?!

bethoo · 19/08/2009 17:58

yes fundus is right! it should be around the belly button now.
had scan and all is well with the baby. i know it is terrible but i was actually upset afterwards as it was not the sex i wanted. yes i know i should be thankful that all is well and there are others who have difficulties. but due to mother daughter issues with my own mum i wanted another boy, a brother for Hayden as he has a sister and if i marry 2 step sisters! and dp has only girls so wanted a son for him too. i know i will get used to the idea. but i am a bit emotionless about it all at the moment. i know i am being a cow!

bethoo I think it's a totally natural reaction I was hoping for a dd this time, but it's ds - and I have now adjusted to the idea I now just want him to be healthy. You're not being a cow I actually cried for 2 minutes and them looked at ds and realised how great he is and how happy I am with him - it will be fine.
