A mahoosive well done & many congrats to you hunny on your little Joseph- glad you got in that pool in the end, sounds like a lovely way to emerge into the world, maybe he'll be a championship swimmer when he grows up !!

To your ex- grrrrrrrrrrrr

Keep asking for help re BF, I also have problem nipples, well one has surprised me this pregnancy and is out to stay whilst the other is definitely a flattie- will appear with some coaxing (ahem) I really tried last time with DD but my supply was poor, coping with recovery from emcs & my arthritis flared up big style so had to go back on the meds quicksmart, also DD a wee lazy feeder (actually think she was still enjoying the diamorphine 3 days later so was such hard going .... post natal ward staff more useless than a chocolate teapot- result= gave up after 3 weeks of battles....

This time I will give it another shot, have a 'Niplette' thingy which should help, plus some nipple shields (gasp ) and will be far more bolshy, keep asking for help, esp with the latch which fluxomed me & DD.

Either way, don't put yourself through hell, formula is NOT the Devil's work and far better that your baby gets fed and you are calm, healthy & happy.

Right, lecture over .... where did that chocolate go ?!

Bonzo glad the aquanatal was a hit ! Wish I'd got off my backside and gone to classes this time round, I really loved that relief from the heaviness & the coolness, though when the m/w made us do Scottish Country dancing up and down the shallow end, things got a bit tricky- think elephants doing Swan Lake ! Excellent laugh too.

Gillyan · 07/07/2009 16:24

Well doen hunny thats a lovely bieth story you must be very pleased.

lydiatattoo has had her baby boy, it was on facebook!

Phoenix · 07/07/2009 16:37

Well done hunny, fabulous birth story

at your ex though.

I'm so fed up now. I can't wait til Friday. The Take That concert last week just made me ache so much, all that walking wasn't good. I'm so glad i know he'll be here on Friday (39wks) and i don't have up to 3wks left.

Phoenix · 07/07/2009 16:40

Oh and congratulations to Lydia, I read it on fb too

Tay1981 · 07/07/2009 17:20

Belgrano that sounds really stressful - fingers crossed for your next scan. Puts all my niggles etc into perspective. I thought you were supposed to start measuring smaller towards the end anyway? The chart in my notes is definitely curved - I'm 39+4 and only measure 37 - MW didn't bat an eyelid.

JetLi - you must be getting excited - due date tomorrow?!!

Anyone else suffering a massive return of reflux / indigestion? I've had it all the way through but had a bit of a lull when baby dropped - seems to have come back now though and am gobbling the gaviscon.

Had an email from a friend abroad today whose due date is the same as mine - she just makes me feel inadequate tho - chatting about how busy she is making curtains for nursery / cleaning etc - and it takes all the energy I have to heave myself off the sofa and make a cup of raspberry leaf tea! Anyone else feeling completely wiped out?

moodylou · 07/07/2009 17:44

Congratulations misspaella, it sounds like you had quite a good labour and yours sounds like it went well too Hunny. Hopefully lots more of us will have good birth stories to put on here soon.

Congratulations to lydiattl too. Hope it all went okay for you.

Welcome Tamequa and Tay

Not surprised you're getting fed up Belgrano. At least the scan on friday should put your mind at ease. The measuring of bumps doesn't seem to be very accurate though - i've had two midwives measure mine on the same day and they were 3 cms out from each other!

Hi sorry, not posted for ages. Only 10 days till due date but getting impatient. Anyone else find midwives less than sympathetic to your pleas for mercy?! Just posting to ask a qu:

weight gain When I had dd I ended up weighing less than when I started out and this time I have been determined to have a few reserves for breastfeeding which was a nightmare last time. Unfortunately in the last few weeks I've noticed my wedding rings are too big and when i finally weighed myself on my friend's scales today I'm only 3 or 4lb heavier than I was at my sister's wedding in April. Baby is still growing but I'm shrinking! Anyone else experienced this? please don't reply to say I'm jealous! Am a bit worried but midwife doesn't seem to care as long as baby is growing.

sorry, somehow posted twice

QueenFee · 07/07/2009 19:59

hunny and lydia congrats

tay by the end of my preg I was literally sitting as much as poss. No nesting instinct for me

belgrano how frustrating for you - These MWs don't realise how much a little comment can stress you out.

christiana lovely name

Gillyan · 07/07/2009 20:12

christiana Gorgeous Gilry name! I forgot till now, you were liking Summer the same as me weren't you, I loved Ruby too but have a close friend with a daughter called that so didn't feel I could.

Hope all you ladies are okay.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my section scar but not too bad.

Have given up on BF ( did 2wks ) and am on bottle, what mumofshortie said about formula not being the devil makes me feel better about it.

Lo is gorgeous and is nearly back to her birth weight.

Thinking of u all xxx

ilikeyoursleeves · 07/07/2009 21:14

Huge congratulations to the new mummies Hunny & Lydia! Hunny I am most of your birth, I really hope I have one like that (well minus the waterbirth as my hospital don't do them).

alibobble I've gained about 1.5 stones this pregnancy but it's really slowed down now, only put on about 1/4 lb over the past 3 weeks. I think as long as your bump is growing its OK? Not sure if there could be any other reasons for slow weight gain. I found I was ravenous when BFing last time, maybe you can make sure you eat loads after baby is here to keep your strength up? Sorry I'm not much help!

I'm loving being with DS at the moment, he is such a wee sweetheart & so much fun and I keep thinking he might only have a few days left of being the total centre of attention which makes me a little

Tried nipple tweaking last night but fell asleep after about 5 mins. What is everyone else doing to get things going?

scully · 08/07/2009 01:02

Lovely name Christiana
Great birth story Hunny, you did well to stay at home so long and wait patiently for the pool Hope your ex gets his act together soon...... If you want to try and continue with bf, find out about the lactation consultant at the hospital, midwives don't always have the knowledge necessary to help everyone, where lactation consultants are specifically trained to help all sorts of bf problems, and be more sympathetic usually too But nothing wrong with supplementing with formula, dd1 had this from 3wks and she is now 7yrs old, doesn't appear to have harmed her, unless it helped give her the attitude which is currently developing
6 days until edd for me, was feeling quite crampy last night, but calmed down again so who knows. Had a checkup on Monday and everything was ok, see consultant next Tues and we'll discuss how overdue I can go, given dd1 was a c/s (dd2 was a vbac).
My bump is lower but certainly not smaller dh even made the comment this morning that he thought it had got bigger overnight Hard to tell now though as you carry differently in the last month or so compared to when it's smaller. I have only been measured once in the last 3 visits, and at 37wks I was measuring 40 so as long as hb good, I'm happy for them to put their tape measure away

BonzoDoodah · 08/07/2009 09:27

Christiana a name!! And a lovely one too!

alibobble if you're really worried speak to your Doctor. But with 10 days to go just make sure you're eating the right number of calories and then remember to eat more after the birth as well for breastfeeding.

BonzoDoodah · 08/07/2009 09:33

BREASTFEEDING

I saw this on another thread and thought it was inspirational. It shows that however long you BF for there is a benefit ... so to encourage people who want to BF and to help those who have tried and think it was "only" 2 weeks or 3 days or whatever ... read what a wonderful job you did by BF up until you did .... and good luck all ...

First feed
Helps to stabilise baby?s blood sugars and protect baby?s gut
A great opportunity for the first skin to skin cuddle
1 day
The antibodies in your colostrum provide natural immunity from infection Helps womb to contract towards normal size
2-3 days
Sticky black meconium is cleared more readily from baby?s bowel
Instant relief for hot, swollen breasts when your milk comes in
1 week
Transition to world outside womb is eased
Frequent feeds means time to sit or lie down and for you and your baby to get to know each other
2 weeks
Food and drink always ready at the right temperature, adapting to baby?s needs
Hormones help you get back to sleep after night feeds
4 weeks
For premature babies lower risk factors for heart disease in later life Saves time sterilising and making up bottles

Half the risk of chest infections now and up to seven years old
Breastfeeding likely to be easier and you can go out and about without bottle feeding equipment
2 months
Lower risk of food allergy at three years old if breastfed only
Reduced risk of ovarian cancer in later life
3 months
Five times less likely to get diarrhoea now and a reduced risk for the whole year Fewer visits to GP as baby less often ill
4 months

Morning All,

Thanks for the info Bonzo - it makes me feel a bit less guilty that i didn't BF DS1 for more than a week. I'm determined to do it this time though so it'll be nice to see what the benefits are as each week passes by.

I'm feeling pretty wiped out too Tay. I didn't get out of bed until the afternoon yesterday and don't have the energy to do more than come on MN, read or watch TV! I'm saving all my energy for when i go into labour (that's what i keep telling DH anyway)

I've just been to the midwife for my final antenatal check and to have a sweep. The midwife said that i'm 2cms dilated and my body seems ready to give birth. The only thing stopping the baby coming she thinks is that there is quite a bit of water between his head and my cervix.

I'm now booked in for an induction next Wednesday when i'll be 42 weeks. I don't really want to have an induction but i think by that point i'll be desperate to get the baby out .

How's everyone else doing? I feel like you're all leaving me behind as everyone seems to be having their babies before they reach their due dates and i'm already a week over I've been having loads of BH but nothing else yet.

scully · 08/07/2009 12:45

Sounds like your close Moody, hopefully you won't need to be induced, it will all have happened before then
Also quite tired now, ok in the mornings but by mid afternoon energy reserves are low. 2 dd's don't always help that either I enjoy Wed and Thurs each week when dd2 is in nursery and dd1, who is 7, chills out with me now she's on school hols.
Food that doesn't require much thought or effort are great for the first couple of months, especially when it's your first. I remember drinking yoghurt being my saviour with dd1, could grab one one my way out and drink as we walked somewhere and it was vaguely nutricious as well. Anything like that is great, and meals in the freezer for evenings so when witching hour approaches you don't have to be cooking
I have had more cramping most of the day, hasn't progressed past that though. Also had it last night but it stopped until mid this morning. Would prefer nothing happened this evening though as dd2 has thrown up twice in the last hour or so and isn't 100% to be leaving with anyone in the middle of the night, should we need to do a mad hospital dash.....

krumbockmummy · 08/07/2009 13:03

Hello all

Tay1981 I am completely wiped out to, feel so guilty as i have 3 yr old DD and i dont have any energy to do much or anything with her. the gaviscon has never gone away, addicted to the stuff!!

(wounder if there is a self help group??)

Christiana love the name, Bonzo that BF thread is really interesting thanks and hunny love the birth story it sounds like a great birth.

alibobble cousin lost weight during her pregnancy think it was about 8-9lb, she gave birth to a healthy 8lb baby girl 3wks ago and is still losing the cow. but if you are really worried go and see your doc. as long as you are eating popularly and MW thinks baby is doing well dont worry yourself to much.

Any one else walking like a duck today? i feel like his head is already half way out but last week cervix was completely closed.

Hope everyone is doing well xx

Misspaella · 08/07/2009 14:13

belgrano Don't worry too much about baby's size. My MW had me in tears when I kept measuring small (one week 5 cm out!) and I had to be referred for a growth scan. The scan showed at 33 weeks LO was already 4.5lbs and when he was born last Sat and 39+ he was 8lbs 3oz even though up until the birth I kept measuring 2-4cm smaller than dates for weeks. I think the whole measuring thing causes more heartache and worry than necessary.

Christiana I really like your name. Beautiful.

Hunny your birth story is amazing and funny. Can't believe the birthing pool was filled by a kettle.

Birthing Positions - I have found that my last 2 (inc the one last week) that my body did what is wanted to do. I always thought I would be more of a squatter for the pushing stage but I always wanted to sit up right with my legs bent and pelvis really stretched out. It just 'felt right'. During labour I loved bending over the bed and circling and rocking. Bizarre but it worked.

Hope we start to hear more birth announcements soon and everyone is enjoying the cool days.

Patchybob · 08/07/2009 15:02

scully I'm with you on the cramping, had it all of last night and today and sometimes it feels really sore. Is this a labour sign? I was induced with both my dc and went from nothing to full blown contractions straight away so this is new to me.

Have ds birthday party this afternoon so from 6.15 pm I am free to give birth!!

krumbockmummy · 08/07/2009 15:41

i still haven't written my birth plan yet, MW cancelled another appointment meant to be 15th but surgery closed all morning so had to cancel they wanted me to make another the next week 5 days before due date??? said not the best idea so made one with a new MW on the 14th!

Been sat on the sofa all day to day no energy to do anything, getting iron tablets tomz so hoping that will lift me alittle.

And i seem to have a stripping DD i now i dressed her this morning?? i hope

Does anyone else feel like they are neglecting there other children at the mo? or is it just me, my energy levels are so low, i cant get on the floor to play with her, take her out because i worried something my start. just feel very guilty
