Finally finished up work today. Thank God! My feet and legs are so swollen I would have cried if I had to go back next week. Now looking forward to some quality time for me - i.e. mani, pedi and heat magazine - and with DS. Any other suggestions with what I should fill my time with?

Phoenix · 03/07/2009 20:37

Ooo exciting hunny, hope this is it

Gillyan - Boots and Holland and Barret only do the 6c and 30c arnica. I've ordered some 200c from Ebay.

plot2 · 03/07/2009 21:04

Congratulations to Jlo2, Mij, nicky6, dannyg, soozze, mum2boys2girls and Queenfee and anyone else I've missed on the safe arrival of your bundles.

Jlo2 I hope all the scares are behind you, that was an ordeal you had on your hands.

And thanks to all of you for all your good wishes, you have no idea what an overwhelming sense of relief it was to see my boy for the first time alive and kicking! I feel I can handle anything now and the scans seem more manageable.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the c-section. Not as dreadful as I had imagined, although I'd still pick natural every time if I could.
I did find the spinal block a bit surreal, watching someone move my legs in different positions and not being able to feel it was weird beyond belief and also with dh wiggling my toes in turn in recovery saying 'really you can't feel this'!!

I managed to get skin to skin about 40 mins after birth in recovery which was lovely and straight onto the breast.
Also I had convinced myself I was going to have to have a blood transfusion as all I kept hearing was my high risk of blood loss but it was only 600ml. I had some advice from a friend beforehand to keep up my iron levels so I have been eating red meat and black pudding by the truck load the previous weeks which seem to have worked.

My only disappointment came when after having not eaten for 24 hrs I was presented with a small roll and yoghurt for dinner when what I really wanted was to eat the hind leg of a donkey! Luckily after seeing my face the care assistant brought me another plate of food, bless her!

The staff at the hosp were brilliant, the reputation for post natal care there has been rubbish but I cannot fault them while I was there.

I was so pleased to be let home after two nights in, my recovery has been great and dh has been brilliant in his support.

dd is wonderful with her little brother and so protective, when he cries she strokes him and says 'it's ok, I'm here'! She is also chief cotton wool ball holder at nappy change time which as she will tell you is very important!

Phoenix I had to get my Arnica 200 online, I couldn't find any high street shops that sold at that strength. Still not sure on how many I should take a day are you?

Anyway enough from me, good luck to all those due now, hang in there for those later in the month, get your feet up as much as you can while you can!
x

bozette · 03/07/2009 21:35

congratulations soozze and mum2boys2girls
I have to agree, everyone has such good taste in names!
Good luck hunny, sounds hopeful! But scrubbing floors on hands and knees! Wow, I don't even do that when i'm not heavily preggers!

This afternoon I managed to clear space in wardrobe and drawers for baby stuff, a start at least! Still not done any washing tho...

Belgrano · 03/07/2009 22:33

Quick one to say congrats to Sooze and Mum2boys2girls. Awesome, well done ladies.

QueenFee · 03/07/2009 22:36

Hi all!
Thanks for updtaing the list for me.
Firstly wooley I am so sorry for your loss. May you get much support and comfort.

I havent had chance to catch up with everything that has gone on in the mere 2 days I have been gone but will just carry on from here.

Thanks for updating the list for me :D I have pics on facebook now and will try and put some on here.

My birth story:

I was induced at 39 weeks due to 2 previous 3rd degree tears and big babies. ]
I went in for my induction on wed eve. They gave me the first gel after 2 long hours of monitoring as Alfie wasn't playing ball and the heartrate was all over the place! I had pains overnight but nothing major. I was then given a second gel at 7am. By 9.30 I was having full blown contractions. At 11.30 I had been using TENS I was examined and was a good 3cm so they gave me gas and air on the ward. By 12.30 I asked to be moved to abour ward and I was at which point I was 6cm! I asked for Pethine again and asked her to examine me 1st which she did and I was 8cm but my waters had still not gone. I have never got to 8cm without pethidine before and I have to say it was great in that I was so much more aware and with it but not so great because the pain was so much more real. They called a Dr to break my waters because Alfie was still so high up (barely engaged!) but within minutes they went all of a sudden (Alfies waking so may return to finish The room was flooded to the point even the midwives were shocked at how much water came out and within what felt like minutes I wanted to push. They were not happy with me because they couldn't monitor me because I was struggling to get on my back (too painfull!) so they could put the monitor on so in the end they put a monitor on his head. After a discussion they gave me an Episo and Alfie was born beautifully controlled and came out screaming! His apgar score was 9 and9! He was all lovely and pink. The controlled delivery had worked and I only needed the Episio stitching yay!

Hope everyone else is ok

Gosh, go into hospital for 2 days and when come out, lots of posts, lots of new babies Congratulations to everyone on the safe arrival of their little ones and thanks to everyone who sent me good wishes.

Baby has turned back head down, so they have sent me home. He's a real wriggler though as went from back to left head down when examined by Registrar to back to back, face up when scanned to double check position! So, he too is an unstable lie and hoping that they'll induce me when I go back next Tuesday. They've told me that if waters break, to lie on my side on the floor and an ambulance will do a scoop and lift It has shaken me, the harsh reality of a crash c section is a very scary thought. I suppose, if you're labouring and you need an emergency section then it's traumatic enough, but to know about it beforehand feels quite bizarre. On the bright side, feel like done a dress rehearsal with all that puffing & panting going on around me, seeing ladies going up to delivery and coming back with their newborns in their arms; quite emotional to see.

Feel drained today but good luck to those whose births are imminent! xx

QueenFee · 03/07/2009 22:39

Oh meant to say to who ever it was whose baby was back to back and had SPD
Both of my last 2 were back to back - DS1 was actually born face to pubes. DS2 (seems wierd typing that!) was the right way then went back to back during delivery but turned at the last minute. I am convinced it is linked to SPD though as I had it badly with DS1.

scully · 04/07/2009 03:19

Congrats to the new babies that have arrived
Maybe a good thing that you at least know what might happen Ruby, rather than it being a surprise. Hopefully baby will behave until Tuesday
Sounds like it was quite stressful for you Jlo, good to hear you and ds are home now and he has regained his weight.
Sounds like things might be happening for you Hunny I get strong bh as well when I overdo it, but nothing else exciting has happened. Very tired the last couple of days though, think being almost 39wks pregnant & both dd's at home on school holidays is catching up with me
Don't worry Bozette, you have plenty of time to get organised, hopefully
I'm the same Mavornia, hoping that a name will jump out at me, from our shortlist, when we meet dc3. Didn't quite happen with dd2 though, took 3wks to decide on her name Love the Phil Mitchell comment, that's not a compliment really is it

lydiathetattooedlady · 04/07/2009 08:39

hi everyone, congratulations to all the new babies! i dont get chance to get on for a few days and they're popping out all over the place!
Good luck to all showing signs of somethign happening soon. we had what i can only describe as tropical rain here yesterday and loooooooved it! took dd out in her wellies so i could just stand in it.
anyway as i said before good luck to all those who mauy be having there babies over the weekend. im now holding off on the 'i want to go in to labour now' thoughts as i have my nephews birthday party and 2 bbq's to go to!
right off to look on facebook and cooo at all of your lovely babies!

mickeylou · 04/07/2009 08:42

Hi everyone - just checking in to say a huge congratulations to the new mummies. such lovely names too!

i have enjoyed my first week of maternity leave and am 37 weeks today. was so glad not to be in the offtice in this heat! braxton hicks still very strong and just feel thoroughly knackered all the time.

next week we have a visit to DS new nursery and a home visit from the nursery teacher. then got an app at the feotal assessment unit on friday - i think to take me through the section and take bloods etc. section still seems a long way off but i know it really isnt.

DS has been really clingy with me this week - to the point of being standoffish with others. i guess he just knows something is going on - he is so used to my going to work 4 days a week.

take care everyone

ilikeyoursleeves · 04/07/2009 14:09

Hi all, so many new babies! Would love to congratulate you all individually but my brain has ceased to work properly after all that heat- so a collective congratulations!

There's no signs at all that mine is coming, that's me 37+1 now and I just keep thinking he's coming next week as I went into labour at 37+4 with DS1. Here's hoping anyway, I am getting cabin fever cos can't get out much, too hot, awful hayfever and can't walk that far. At least the humidity is gone, that was awful!

Good luck to all those about to pop this weekend!

Phoenix · 04/07/2009 19:57

God i am in such a bad, irratable mood today. Dh can't do a thing right. I just keep snapping at him, poor thing . Roll on Friday.

Gillyan · 04/07/2009 20:00

plot2 glad your section went well. I rememebr seeing them move my legs when I was being stitched undr a spinal when DD1 was born and I made sure I didn't look this time during the section, it's like motion sickness isn't it!

queenfee well done, what a lovely birth story, so glad you didn't tear again.

lydiathetattooedlady · 04/07/2009 20:33

phoenix im with you for being irritable! i have spent the last few daays not miving from home as was convinced i was going in to labour anytime soon i had the symptoms
1.losing more plug
2.contractions getting more regular
3.having terrible diahorrea(sp) since thurs morning which is an achievement considering im on mega strong iron tablets
4.i at least thought the sweep might do something considering my cervix is very low and starting to open...
but NOTHING!
went out today and am now sunburnt. have scoffed a dominoes to make myself feel better.
bbqs and party tomorrow yay! oh and dp has got a job so is no longer being made redundant, however he is now on night shifts from now til wed, dont know what i'll do if anything starts in the night eek!
ooh just seen on face book hunney has had her little boy!!!
