Hhi! Just off to Dr but you've all been chatting away and I've not time to catch up!

Kay - seen you've decided on Lakes. My brother owns 2 cottages in Keswick which he rents out for holiday lets. Just in case you're interested (or anyone else!) the link is lakerdistrict.com/
No obligation and it's probably not the cheapest but they are well maintained and in a good position.

Right, I'll catch up properly later...

tinkisback · 13/07/2009 14:54

hi

kay - glad results back normal and you have been feeling ok lake d sounds good

Kayzr · 13/07/2009 15:13

Ses, they are lovely but too big and too small for us. We love www.lakelovers.co.uk/cs/properties/692this but it is too big for us.

sorky · 13/07/2009 16:06

We don't have a budget really Tink for birthdays/xmas. I agree with Nat it seems to depend on what we decide to get them.
As a general rule probably no more than £50-£100 for birthdays, but Christmas is a different ball game tbh.
Dh insists the pile of presents must be huge and have the WOW factor
Last year hit a ridiculous sum and this year is likely to be worse as the eldest 2 are getting laptops each.

Dd2 will not have much of a pile this year I don't think, it doesn't make much sense as she'll only be 10mo then.

Ds2 is getting one of those wooden bikes with no pedals.

Family buy for them too. This year thankfully my mother has agreed to give them money.
If we don't get planning for the extension we'll have to rethink, as we simply cannot keep storing all these toys. We have a clear-out each Oct/Nov time to prepare for the new stuff, but we're still overflowing. No wonder i'm obsessed with storage

Oh and thanks for all the birthday wishes, I did have a lovely day

Diege · 13/07/2009 16:16

Afternoon! Hope dr's goes well SES! KAYZ, whatever you do, make sure you don't get a cottage with an extra bed, just incase you-know-who decides to tag along Great that bloods came back fine, and good luck with the driving
LBOX, take it easy! It does sound like things are progressing well though, and that your LO may well be here by his due date
Hi IDOB, you take it easy too! When do you finish work?
HI NAT! Think I must be a skinflint when it comes to presents - birthdays usually no more than £50 each budget, though dd1 is askinbg for a bike and 'puppet in a box' this year, so may well blow that. It's end of July, and we've also booked her party at 'Ice bloc' (synthetic ice rink). I always mean to start getting bits for Xmas now, so may well look at for some sale bargains. Can't do any harm to look
Finally got in touch with SOM to find out what consultant appointment was about. I'm booked it to go over notes again with consultant, and also anasthetist (sp!!) as something odd happended when they administered the general that I've been too stressed about to even mention here, but have been having nightmares/flashbacks and I need to find out what went wrong (let's just say it didn't 'take' straight away). Hopefully will find out what went wrong, so I can finally move on without being afraid to fall asleep at night.
Have also had a call from hairdresser to say that her sister and family have swine flu' . She seems ok, but has suggested rescheduling this week's appointment - fair enough, but still gutted I'll have another week to endure my roots . Still, a sensible precautions I think
Right, better start on tea - really odd having all this domestic responsibility - sure the novelty will wear off soon

Moosy · 13/07/2009 16:31

Our budget for birthdays/Christmas normally starts out as £50 each, but goes up and down a bit depending on what they want. I think Christmas this year will be a bit Scroogy as we won't have 2 beans left by then!

Just overheard a snippet of conversation:
DD2: But we haven't got a baby.
DD1: But we will have soon, Mummy's got one in her tummy.
DD2: Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

DD2 has been very good with her potty for the last 4 days, wearing trousers and going out etc, but so far today she's on her 6th pair of knickers she has 2 back teeth cutting so I wonder if that's making her a bit wonky, but she seems ok. Must persevere!

sorky · 13/07/2009 16:59

Moosy is dd2 having a nap in the afternoon? ds2 isn't well atm and is having a long nap so I'm reluctant to trust him not to wet the bed. He's using the toilet when he has clothes on now, just shouts to tell me he's doing a wee
Not much luck on the poo front yet tho'

Actually I'd better go n get him up

Kayzr · 13/07/2009 17:03

Just realised that my link didn't work. This is the cottage that we love.

Moosy · 13/07/2009 17:21

She hasn't had a regular daytime sleep since she was 16 months, she'll fall asleep in the car sometimes but that's all really.

Another wee on the floor, knickers #7 on now!

DD1 is not impressed as her toy elephant (nice jellycat one) took a hit and is now in the washing machine

Moosy · 13/07/2009 17:21

Oh and I'm 19 weeks now (so WHY was I sick yesterday? )

Hi guys - with you on the potty training front! How old are yours at the moment? DS is 2.7 and is nearly there. Nursery have been key I think, because other older kids are training at the same time.

Had a small celebration today when we were at a friends house this morning and he announced he wanted the loo - fortunately (and for a change) I'd actually remembered to take the loo seat thingy and he did a poo on the loo instead of his pants! Hurrah! Touch wood - there's been no accidents today!

He rarely has a wee accident these days but the poos are taking a bit more concentration!

He's got a potty in front of the tv which I think is very helpful!

He wears pull ups for naptime (also known (by me) as 'wrestle time' - I'm so not ready for him to stop, and neither is he, but he thinks he is - hence the physical wrestle until he concedes !!!). He still wears them at bedtime too and if we're doing a long car journey. Although, he rarely has wet pull ups for naps or driving. He's also quite good at spotting up coming service stations it seems, as he's been announcing he wants a wee about a mile before each service station and has been able to hold on each time!

Goodness, sorry about the mega potty post!

In celebration of all the above, I've started collecting a some packs of newborn nappies on the weekly shop too. Spreading the cost and all that.

Have not been feeling great the past 24 hours or so, got a bit of a dicky tummy and every now and again, get really painful cramps and have to rush off to the loo .

Am feeling a little guilty at the amount I don't spend on DS at birthday's / Christmas! He gets so much stuff from all his rellies though, I'd need a barn to store it all in if I mucked in too! He didn't get anything from us for his first christmas and only a couple of items for his birthdays. The house is bursting with his toys though!

He seems to have developed the skill of seeing things he wants and telling me we're going shopping for them! He's 2.5 FGS!

Oh well.

On the room decorating front, I wasn't planning on doing wall papering etc, just accessorising with bedding, a couple of pictures, waste paper bin, that sort of thing so that when if his allegiance changes, it won't be a disaster.

He (and George pig) quite like dinosaurs too, so I did wonder about some dinosaur stuff.

He's pressed up against me in an attempt to stop me typing cuddling me at the moment and i've just had to ask him to stop playing with my boob - what's that all about? He seems to have a new fascination and I haven't told him about breastfeeding yet. He's becoming increasingly adamant that I'm having a baby girl - beginning to wonder if perhaps we should try and find out the sex at the next scan (37 weeks) so that we can prepare him if it is a boy.

Sorry - can you tell I've been on my own most of the day with only DS for company? I guess you're probably all off doing tea now - and I ought to get on with that too!

x

essenceofSES · 13/07/2009 18:21

All fine at Drs. He cried on and off for about an hour afterwards but then fell asleep and is still asleep nearly an hour and a half later. Only issue is that he's asleep on me! Normally I would try and put him down but 95% of the time he wakes up so today I'm just letting him sleep on me.

8wk check all ok except GP still expressed concern over his weight. Can't quite work out why though and I told her his last weight measurement was nearly 2 weeks ago! She insisted on taking a photocopy of his chart.
She also said she had noted he had a raised upper palate in his mouth. I asked why that was significant and she said it could be a sign of genetic abnormality but that it would normally be accompanied by other signs that he doesn't have. She said it may be just a naturally raised palate!
GPs!!!

Kay - I did wonder if you'd need one inbetween those that my brother has. Hope you find something that's right. You've plenty of time so I'm sure you will.

Diege - hope your hairdresser and her family recover quickly

STT - hope you feel better soon. My godson has a room full of Thomas the Tank Engine stuff including a bed in the shape of a Thomas train!!

Moos - what a cute conversation you overheard!

LBOT - bet that was a scary moment! Bit of reality for your DH!

IDOB - Glad you enjoyed your wkend!

tink - shopping consultant to the stars wagon!

Hello Nat!

Sorky - sorry I missed that it was your birthday - Happy Birthday!!
Bumps - hope your appointment went well today

Moosy · 13/07/2009 18:46

STT, I have a ridiculously high palate as does my dad (and I think the DDs too, can't really tell), I'm intrigued!

bumpsnowjustplump · 13/07/2009 21:33

Evening all. Had hospital appointment today and DS now weighs 15lb 1oz he is just below the 25th centile but dr is happy with his progress and has signed him off. However he has asked me to wean him early... He wants me to go back on dairy first to check he has no reaction to that and then in two weeks time he want me to start giving solids. Then in two months time providing everything is ok I have to wean him off the meds (not before 7 months though)....

He also wants me to go back once a month for weigh in so dosage of meds can be altered!

All good there but not so good after. My mum was rushed to hospital last night and had an opperation today. Two of her dogs started fighting and she tried to seperate them and one of them bit her by mistake. We went to see her today and she looked really bad and for the first time in my life she looked really old....

DP has now said he doesn't want me to go around there with the ds's. I can see his point but i wont cut my mum out of my childrens lifes regardless of what he says.... sorry long post and a bit upset with it all at the moment...

But really pleased with owens report..... He still isn't feeding very much but when we told dr he said my milk will start to decrease now anyway and that as long as he isnt hungry then there is no problem.....

essenceofSES · 13/07/2009 22:53

Hello Bumps. That's great news about Owen - really good progress. How awful for your mum though. I can't remember the age/breed of dog. Will she be in hospital long? I guess you'll all naturally be a bit more wary and as long as the dogs aren't left alone with the DC I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem.

Moos - I've even committed the sin of googling raised palate but can't see anything relevant. I'm sure it's just my scare-mongering, overly thorough GP!

Diege · 14/07/2009 08:56

Morning . That is good news about Owen LB - you must be feeling very pleased and relieved . So sorry about your mum ; hoping she makes a fast recovery. I bet you are sick of hospitals! As SES says, as long as dogs aren't left with DCs on their own, can't see a problem. My parents used to breed dogs when I was growing up (ok, pekinese )and there are lots of benefits to having them around children. Can see why safety is a key issues after what happened though.
All ok here. J had a bad evening again, but settled after bottle at 10.30pm and then slept through to 4. Think he's gradually cutting back on nightfeed too, so fingers crossed the gf routine will pay off and he'll sleep through from 10 weeks or so like dds 2&3 did when on it. He's only 4 weeks though, so not expecting miracles just yet!
Nothing really planned today, other then getting more milk and my Tuesday mags (Grazia and Heat ). Ah life in the fast lane eh . Hope everyone is ok x

Diege · 14/07/2009 09:00

Oh meant to say SES that glad jabs went ok - how was your night? RE: 'raised palate', the only thing it rings bells for me on is that my singing teacher years ago used to say the best singers had them as it stopped the voice being 'nasally'. So you may well have a mini-Pavarotti there Your gp sounds a bit of a nightmare tbh...great bedside manner . Stop worrying about it anyway (if you are), it's perfectly normal (and enviable if you're a singer!)

Diege · 14/07/2009 09:01

MOOSY, are you and the dds good singers then??

tinkisback · 14/07/2009 09:04

great news about oqwen

intresting to hear what people spend for bdays and christmases

i never ask dd1 what she wants or i do but she always runs through a list of things.
this year getting her more for bday as we are up in hull for xmas with dhs parents cant take alot that is why i am getting her leapfrog tag system and leapster plus games as they are small and she will luv them

Morning Diege! Evenings seem to be worse for O too although much better than they were.

Interesting what you say about the raised palate and get you with the singing lessons!! Actually one of my claims to fame is that I've sung Verdi's Requiem from memory on stage at the Barbican in London with the Philarmonia orchestra (and about 60 other singers!)
Would love it if DS showed an interest in music...

Anyway, back to reality! DH has his Drs appointment today about his blood pressure. He asked for a morning appointment as he reckons he'll need a fasting blood test!!

O seemed to recover well from his jabs. I did wonder if he had a bit of a temperature in the middle of the night when he woke for his feed but he didn't seem bothered so I left the Calpol alone.

Hope everyone's had a good night and has a good day!

Kayzr · 14/07/2009 09:11

Morning,

Bump, Great news about Owen, Hope your Mum makes a speedy recovery. I agree that providing the dcs aren't left alone with the dogs then they will be fine.

We don't spend that much on the boys. Just get them a few bits and bobs. Maybe when they are older we might spend more but atm there is no point.

Got a list of about 10 cottages we like so now having to choose one. Tempted by one in/near Windermere so if I haven't passed my test there is the train station!

Hope everyone is well. We're going for a walk round the woods at the castle.

idreamofbeanie · 14/07/2009 09:12

Morning all,

great news about Owen LB but sorry to hear about your mum. Do you know how long she will have to be in for?

Ses - LOL at your little pavorotti . Your GP sounds awful though, how to make people worry about nothing!

Diege - glad J had a good night after his difficult evening. Enjoy the mags - I'm a Star girl myself as I refuse to pay for Heat .

I'm a bit irritated this morning. My NCT course has been cancelled at the last minute. We should have started this Saturday but the teacher is ill and they can't find cover so they have just cancelled the course and refunded the fees. I know they can't help it that the teacher is sick but I'm sure they could just slot a few extra people onto the other courses or offer some kind of alternative. I know lots of people don't do NCT classes but we were looking forward to it - especially DP strangely.

essenceofSES · 14/07/2009 09:12

Morning tink! Weather is miserable isn't it! DH is not impressed a he has the week off work and was hoping to do lots of dog walking and gardening.

essenceofSES · 14/07/2009 09:16

Hello Kay and IDOB too!

IDOB - I'd be really cross about the NCT course being cancelled. We did get ours put back a week as the lady taking the course had a bereavement but to have to completely cancel??! Can youphone and ask if you can squeeze onto another course somewhere else?
