Morning

Christenings sound good. Not decided what we are doing for the SG yet. Wont be formal christening but might have a welcome party for family and "god" parents

Diege- im swaddling SG in a swaddle sheet with only a nappy underneath, wouldnt bother with a sleepsuit at all really. We fortunately have a smsll aircon unit thst we use to cool her room down before bedtime. Really helpful.

Went to a great garden party with my NCT friends, we are such a good group except for one girl who insists on 'discussing' others behind their backs- making me very uncomfortable. She also is so competitive with her DC's development and comments on everyones parenting techniques in quite a critical way. Dont think it will be long before the group starts to break up a bit...

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/06/2009 10:57

Sorky it is the light blue and white strip one that is towling and does up at the back.... So lovely I love it but it is too small now I am so sad I dont want to put it away but have too...... Also sorry for the message this morning. I had text mark about car tax and she was playing with my phone and forwarded it to you!!

Diege I am putting owen in thin sleepsuit and just a sheet.. if it gets any hotter i will be using just a vest..

lastboxoftampons · 29/06/2009 12:00

Hello everyone Hope you all had good weekends! I'll do my best to catch up!

Glask - so sorry to hear about Ruby, but I imagine it's long forgotten now! Glad to hear she's well again!

LB - Good for you, out and having fun with a bottle of wine! How much cheese was in the roll? Hoping it's too little an amount for DS to notice and that he's feeling better. As for rolling, I would transfer to the cot - I (with all my expereience! ) don't really trust them in moses baskets when they can roll.

Not sure who asked about the door jumper vs bumbo? AS others have mentioned, think I would go for an upright activity center or even a walker (even though I know they've gotten quite controversial). I'm sure they love it, but door jumpers have always struck me as one for the parents as opposed to the kids and if they're not in the mood to jump, they just hang there. That said, my aunt and uncle had one for my cousins and it was hilarious - all of the adults had a great time

Ses - your BBQ sounds nice. Good to make the most of the lovely weather! I hope it lasts! (even if it is a little TOO hot )

Kay - good luck with the cake! Is it hot where you are? I would make sure the marzipan is well refrigerated before you start, else it could be difficult to work with if it starts melting.

Sorky - hoping the cat turns up. How far away are they from you? It's possible he might try to make his way back to yours!

So, pram, monitor and car seat are on order, and all baby clothes washing/sheets etc is done! We didn't get around to picking up moses basket this weekend, but will do sometime this week. Baby's clothes for hospital are packed. I need to do some shopping to make sure I have everything ready for my labour bag and then, I think, I might be ready! Am petrified! But excited. Although I was a bit sad this weekend - talking with DH, his job has been really busy lately, he routinely gets home around 8pm. I've always assumed that once the baby is here, he'll just get in to work a bit earlier and be able to leave earlier, to which he seemed to agree. He told me this weekend that he didn't think it would be possible. He had just had a huge rant about work and I tried to tell him that I think that he's going to miss out and not be able to spend any much time with the baby during the week and his answer was pretty much Well, my job is what it is. Not in so many words, and I can tell that he was really not in a great mood and stressed, but it's really made me upset. Anyone else have an absentee DH???

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 29/06/2009 12:06

LBOT - re DHs and work. IME, I think DH found the last few weeks of pg difficult as reality is starting to hit. Part of that reality is the responsibility especially with me being on ML and drastically reduced pay. It did make DH think about work more as he felt that was his role as "provider". Could be your DH is feeling something similar?

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 29/06/2009 12:07

Btw LBOT, which pram did you go for in the end?

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/06/2009 12:10

Me LBOT dp is gone at 4:30 and gets home at 7:30. Was the same after dd as well..... Hard but needs must as he needs to cover all outgoings while i have no income...

lastboxoftampons · 29/06/2009 12:31

Thanks Ses and Bump - I know it must be incredible pressure to suddenly be the sole breadwinner and I've tried to go easy on him about it. I've always been really sensitive about relying on him financially (when I first move to the UK I was out of work for a little bit and had to ask him for money on a weekly basis and it was HORRIBLE!) and now it's not only me but a baby too. I guess we'll have to see what the reality is in terms of when he'll actually be able to get home and what sort of baby the LO will be. I guess I had visions of bathtime with daddy while I cooked us dinner, etc...

Anyway, I'm sure we'll get through. Your poor DP, Bump! That is a super long day!!!

Ses - we went for the Bugaboo Bee in the end. I just couldn't see myself managing on London buses with anything bigger, although I would've liked something a little more rugged for walks in the park, etc. We ordered a blue one! Should be here by the end of the week!

GYo · 29/06/2009 12:37

Hi LBOT sounds like you are pretty organised there. Just need the baby! All so exciting, think im actually slightly at the preparation!!

Re DHs - mine went back to work after only 1 week which compared to most of my NCT peers and other friends was quick. I saw this quite positively as it meant I could get to know DD and what she needed. Though I was practically waiting outside the front door for him in the evenings!!

It also meant that I could have space to establish breastfeeding alone and with support from the MWs who came in daily. He found it very hard being "an onlooker" to breastfeeding as it was so exclusive of him so he also found it easier to be away a bit too since he couldnt really do anything to help and apparently I wasnt listening to his advice at all So its not all negative for him being at work.

As Ses says, he might be slightly terrified (as you said you were) too... work is an escape to reality for the partners... I can remember thinking very fond thoughts of grabbing my work clothes and jumping on a train to escape some of the harder days at the start!

Sorry- have written essay on that...

Hi Ses, Moosy, Sorky, Kay and Gruff if you are lurking..

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 29/06/2009 12:39

4.30 is a v early start!!
DH is normally gone about 7am and back about 7pm except Mondays he's normally home later between 9 and 10pm and one night a week he's away in Scotland. If he can on a Friday he'll try and get home between 5 and 6pm.

Getting your Bugaboo will bd v exciting!

Hello Bumpy

GYo · 29/06/2009 12:39

Hurray for the Bee!!

Mine has been to the park a few times and is fine on grass and smooth paths etc. I just avoid mud and uneven ground!

GYo · 29/06/2009 12:42

Sorry, multiple posts, See you were talking about working hours rather than paternity leave... sorry for misunderstanding

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/06/2009 12:44

LBOT I will say this that a baby will have a different routine to us and that it will be up at some point when DP gets home. No baby will be asleep from 7 in the evening until morning, so you could do bath when dp gets home. As they get older it is different. I do bath and get ready for bed. DD's bedtime is 7 so as soon as dp gets in he takes her to bed to do story time (which now lasts an hour he is a soft touch and reads at least 7 books a night). At weekends she only wants him and I have to say that although I look after her most she is closer to her daddy so the long hours dont take that away. The time he has with her is quality time and play time!!! I have to sort ds and house out so have no real quality time with her where we only play

You could have a baby like ds and it wouldn't matter when dh got home he would still be away because the bugger doesn't sleep!!!!

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/06/2009 12:47

Hello ses how is little owen today? When is he next being weighed? I have to take ds today...

We will have to sort out another meet up soon, we could do a picnic in a park!!! Are there any nice ones neer you? if not sevenoaks knowl park is lovely!!

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/06/2009 12:49

near you have a teary ds in one arm sorry..

lastboxoftampons · 29/06/2009 12:50

Thanks GYO Even though you were talking about PL, I can see the parallels, and it's useful. I hadn't really thought of it like that actually (ie that it would be good to have the space)

Mine doesn't get to work until 9 or so (leaves around 8:30) - it's just the nature of his business to have a late start. If he has a meeting out of town, he sometimes doesn't go back to the office and can be home as early as 6 or 6.30. But because what he does is based around the clients hours (he's in advertising) getting in earlier wouldn't make much of a difference because there's nothing for him to do/no client to interface with IYSWIM? It's never really mattered because by the time I get in, it's 6.30-7 anyway and then I start dinner and by the time he walks in, usually closer to 8, we sit down to eat. I guess if we're all getting up earlier, then we'll just need to make the most of the time in the morning. Perhaps a morning bath instead of an evening one?

GYo · 29/06/2009 12:51

Wise Wagoners, Im getting a dull ache in one of my boobs. Its not there all the time but is there in the morning and night.

Dont feel ill so dont think its mastitis, dont have any thrush symptoms. Any idea what it is?

Its being the areola bit and comes in waves as aches not sharp pains...

lastboxoftampons · 29/06/2009 12:57

Thanks, Bumpy! Xposts. You're right - I just imagine the times that baby is awake and DH is home will probably not be the best ones (ie crying in the middle of the night, etc) It'd be nice if he had some quality time, but I guess that's what weekends are for. And I think that because he was in a bad mood, he was painting a bleak picture, and I wasn't in the best frame of mind because I was exhausted and so friggin' hot! We were supposed to be having a nice dinner in a restaurant that we had been wanting to go to for a while and we made a last minute decision to go because we're beginning to panic that we won't be able to once the baby comes, but I was too hungry a few hours before we left, so I scarfed down some crisps and a coke so I wasn't hungry, restaurant was in an airless attic like room on top floor, etc, etc.. And to top it all off, DH had just asked me if I ever think of Shrimpy (which was our little bean that we lost last year) and so I was just teary on top of everything...!

Sorry this has turned into such a rant/LBOT fest! But I really appreciate the advice everyone!!!

idreamofbeanie · 29/06/2009 12:59

Morning LBOT - since DP still hasn't been able to find a job in York (bloody banking crisis) it looks as though he won't be living with us full time when the baby arrives. The plan is for him to work from home (my house) as much as possible, hopefully at least 2 days a week and then he will be living 2 hours away near the office for the other 3 days (probably Tue morning to Thu night). It's not great but we need the income so we'll just have to make the most of the time he is here. He is quite sad about it but also very practical like your DH and just says we need the money and that's the job he has so we'll just have to live with it. Like you I had visions of 'family time' every evening and I feel a bit blue about the situation but I'm just planning to make sure he does lots of playing/changing/bathing etc when he is here so he feels as involved as possible and I hopefully get a bit of a break. At least on the days he is home he should be able to have lunch with me and let me go for a shower etc but I will have to remember he is working so can't disturb him all day . Fingers crossed it works out for both of us and DP/DH's spend as much time with the LOs as possible!

Hooray for bugaboo arriving though . My britax arrived over the weekend too which is very exciting. It is clearly second hand - the wheels are quite worn, the frame is a little scuffed in places and 1 piece of plastic is very scratched which I didn't understand until I tried it in the boot of my car and found that you scrape that bit every time you take it out - but the actual pram bit, the cosytoes and the carrycot are immaculate. I'm really pleased with it as all the marks are just wear and tear - things it will end up with after we use it for a few weeks - and we paid less than half the lowest price I found for a new one. I love a bargain!

It almost made up for a weekend with the in-laws . They stayed with us all weekend and I had almost forgotten how irritating my MIL is - was so all weekend. She keeps telling DP how he will be useless when I am in labour so I shouldn't rely on him and how crap he will be with the baby - makes loads of jokes about he won't be able to cope with changing nappies or dealing with a crying baby. Grrrr . Managed not to rise to it and just smiled with gritted teeth and kept reassuring DP he'll be great.

Kayz - good luck with the cake.
GYO - your NCT girl sounds like a pain but it's nice the rest of you get on. I start classes in 2 weeks so hoping there will be some nice people on the course.
Jules - enjoy sports day!
Diege - hope nursery visit and meeting with midwife supervisor person goes well.

Hi to everyone I've missed - sorry, wittered on so long about my weekend I can't remember anyone else's news .

idreamofbeanie · 29/06/2009 13:06

Sorry, what an essay . While I am filling up the thread I might as well update the list too. I am officially in the third trimester now according to my book - yah!

Hello again!

Sorry for disappearing earlier. DS went to sleep in the sling so I took advantage and went to hang the washing out and get some lunch.

We really must arrange that mini meet up. GYo - would you and the small giraffe be up for travelling across to Sevenoaks or Reigate? Priory Park in Reigate has recently been done up and has a cafe, play area and ducks.
Gruff or Cosmo lurking? I know you guys had said you may be interested too. Anyone else too for that matter!!??

GYo - sorry not sure about the boob ache. Does feeding affect it?

Bumpy - DS is doing ok thanks. Next weigh in is Wed afternoon...

IDOB - yay for 3rd trimester

GYo · 29/06/2009 13:54

Hello
I'd definately be up for a meet in Reigate Priory. Used to go there as a student years ago

AChe not affecting feeding, guess Im worried its the start of something. Will keep an eye on it.

lastboxoftampons · 29/06/2009 14:38

GYO - I'm sorry, no advice on the boob Hope you feel better soon though.

IDOB - I forgot about your living situation I agree, I hope it works out for us both. I really shouldn't complain as it seems a lot of us are in the same boat, or even worse off. Oooh, glad your pram arrived! Such fun! I'm really excited about getting ours now! This is DH's Barcelona weekend, but if it comes while he's away I don't think I'll be able to contain myself and I'll have to set it up on my own! And how horrible of your MIL about your poor DH. But good for you for standing by him! I'm sure he'll be fab!

juleshaslostheridol · 29/06/2009 15:13
