Hello all! Thought I would start this off as our existing thread is full!

Hi everyone I am looking very attractive today I have petechiae all over my face from throwing up .
sleepingalot that's a breach of confidence - not nice I would be angry too.

alfiesmadmother · 17/06/2009 09:31

starshaker-that's strange, I have been craving goats cheese and caramelised onion tarts! Must be good for you!!!

Hello everyone, first time I have managed to post here as my internet at home is down-stupid BT.

I'm ten weeks now (wow!) and have my first midwife appointment after work. It feels a bit late to be just going for my first appointment, I think she will probably just put my name down and make an appointment for booking in. I am nervous though, silly me!

I am so tempted to tell people now. I have a hen do next week and will be 11 weeks and wondering wether to tell any of my girlfriends. I am another one who is refusing to believe I am preg/that everything is ok. Saying that when I press my tummy I can just feel my uterus is starting to come up above my pubic bone. The initail bad sickness all day is wearing off and I just have random moments of feeling ill.

But I am absolutely exhausted and have times of feeling I am stupid I wish I had never done this. Anyone else???

Anyway enough talking about myself, I had better leave room for somebody else!

Sorry to hear about peoples work woes. I have not told work yet. I only work 2 days a week at a dentist and keep metally preparing what I will say. I don't think I will want to go back and think I will finish for Christmas- can't wait!!!!!

somewhathorrified · 17/06/2009 10:41

alfiesmadmother can't say I have feelings of doubt, but I've been lucky with symptoms; my exhaustion only lasted a couple of weeks, and the only ongoing issues I have are big sore boobs and an insatiable appetite (neither of which are particularly negative). I'm also 34 and am in the perfect postion to start a family, so logically I couldn't justify doubt.

starshaker · 17/06/2009 11:56

actually im now having a thing for cheese, any cheese mmmmmmmm and fruit although think im now alergic to pineapple as my tounge is still tingeling from last night and was quite swollen

bethoo · 17/06/2009 12:27

i thought you could not eat goats cheese in preg as some soft cheeses are a no no. anyone else heard this?

well i had my first midwife appointment and had a gallon of blood drawn while my 2 year old watched open mouthed! i am 11 weeks today so should be getting a letter through for my scan within 2-3 weeks.

i would be very pissed off if someone took it onto themselves to tell work colleagues you were pregnant as it is not their business. i would see a confrontation straight away esp in my hormonal state!

and welcome to some more newbies {smile]

Hi everyone,

Had a bit of a cry when I got home last night due to my worry over yesterday's scan but everyone who knows (and it's a worryingly growning number!) have told me it will all be fine and that I've just got to keep positive.

Quite a few people in my office already know - partly because I go running with one of my colleagues and I wanted her to know in case I started flaking out on one of our runs! But also because I got completely flustered the other day when people were trying to pressure me into doing a team parachute jump in July and I just cracked under the pressure. I'm bloody RUBBISH at this pregnancy lark!

VivClicquot · 17/06/2009 16:40

As for cravings - at the moment, it's sausage and onion sandwiches. Oh lord, keep me away from them otherwise I'll turn into a bratwurst myself.

starshaker · 17/06/2009 17:31

goats cheese is ok as long as its pasturised as far as i know

Has anyone been reassured recently by a midwife or medic that on off symptoms is ok. I really dont have any thing now and am starting to get worried.

alibobins · 17/06/2009 19:17

Well I've got a new symptom itchy nipples really are irritating me.
My symptoms do seem to come and go but I'm reaching the twelve week mark so hopefully will start to bloom

crumpette · 17/06/2009 19:37

lottie I had a booking in appointment at kings yesterday. My letter told me to go to the midwives centre, so I duly went and got shouted at for not completing my form (well, just short of a shout) I got weighed in the corridor and had to give a urine sample (not in the corridor). They also did my height (and I have apparently shrunk by 3cm since last time, which can't be right).

Anyway I sat back down in my seat in the waiting area and was told that they were so short-staffed would I mind going to the hospital instead (I was quite relieved actually). So off I trotted with my notes up to 3rd floor (jubilee entrance). When I got there I was met with many screaming little babies. Apparently they aren't normally there, it was a tongue-tie clinic or something. I sat on my own in a big waiting area with nervous looking dads and empty carseats. Eventually a midwife came and got me, and basically from then on it was pretty straight forward. She asked questions, mainly. Wanted to know my history, obstetric and otherwise, and filled out a form on her screen.
I had bloods taken, my bp done, but that was it. No scans, no prodding of tummies, no listening to heartbeats.

I have to say that the midwife was utterly lovely as was the clinic manager, who kept offering me drinks and I was offered a fairy cake (after I told them about dd, maybe they were being kind). So, they are a nice bunch, but it does take up to 2 hours. Mainly because you have to wait at the start, then because their computers are dodgy and freeze. Assuming it is all well, I'd say it could be done in an hour...but I went in at
4pm to the midwifery centre and emerged at around 6.30 from the hospital.

Good luck!!!

How was Zurich by the way?

Re the cheese everyone, I think it's actually fine in the UK as it is generally pasteurised. Unpasteurised soft cheeses are the problem, but for example, brie sold pr produced in the uk, will be pasteurised, but brie in a small french market town would be dubious.

Biccy · 17/06/2009 19:41

Hi all
Not been posting much recently as I just don't have much energy for anything but the essential (I am trying not to get down about this, but the house is chaos, I can see what needs to be done, I want to do it... I just can't move...).
Bethoo glad you have sorted things out with DP.
Viv, sorry your scan was a bit worrying. I remember reading a story on here somewhere about someone who had a similar experience - in fact I think it was worse in that they were told to expect the worst... and their DC is happily running about now.
coffeeicecream my symptons really come and go; the only constant one is yearning for my bed ALL the time; I find it worrying too.. then just as my worrying is reaching a peak, I start to feel sick again. I think iateallthecreameggs had a reassuring convo with midwife who said fluctuating symptons are perfectly normal. But I know how you feel, I'm totally paranoid.
Alibobin I have itchy nipples too....
I really can't believe I am only 8 +2, I look so pregnant. It's really annoying me! I don't think I'd mind if I'd told people, but I am sure everyone who sees me must be thinking 'hmm'...
Anyway, must summon the energy to get dd off to bed, she's been having far too many late nights recently.

viv - please try to keep a lid on your stress....I've read loads of stories like yours where it all eventually catches up in the end. Your baby is there and it has a heartbeat so try and hold on to that. It's so hard being in limbo but worrying yourself silly wont do either of you any good. Will be thinking of you.

Had another scan yesterday and all was good. Had private one because DH didn't get to see the last one. We've got an NHS one next week so not long to wait for another peep!
Still unsure of my dates - I'm somewhere between 8+1 and 8+6.

Hello everyone else x

crumpette · 17/06/2009 22:23

lottie good luck! It was a tad ghastly, yes. I didn't mind being at the hospital because they were a little stressed at the midwives place. But yeah- not the best! It's a strange place, seems like a converted house. They will be lovely to you, though, I'm sure. It's in the morning so they won't have a whole day of angst built up, and also- TWINS! Hellooo who wouldn't be nice to you?

I didn't look down when I was weighed but unfortunately my weight was then called out so I couldn't miss it (have already gained 10 pounds.. whoops!)

Anyway, I digress, it's just a lot of boring form-filling on a screen, basically. Oh and they will ask you about alcohol/smoking/previous drug use. I said no when she asked about drugs- she said 'what, you've never even tried mushrooms?!' I said 'er.. no, why- are you recommending them?'
bizarre encounter. I think she thought I was extremely dull!!

viv as I said earlier, fingers crossed for you but really babies often surprise people by not matching their dates. Unless you had IVF it's impossible to know when the baby was actually conceived. All sounds healthy otherwise, so I hope it's ok.

STA1mum · 18/06/2009 10:13

Hi All,

Haven't posted for a while as have - luckily for me - been on holiday and pretty busy. All seems to be progressing with scan booked for 26th which will be 12+0. Due date is now 7th Jan after booking in appt which was tricky with tired and fed-up DS now 16 months.

I am heartened to read of everyones stories of tiredness etc, went into complete meltdown on Monday evening and nothing would console me. However after good nights sleep -in bed by 8.30- felt better on tues. Am also ambivalent at mo and don't want to tell people yet as am not ready to be a public spectacle and have to talk about it.

Also want to reassure first timers that worry over body-image should go, at least diminish, as bump starts to be truly baby-bump and not just jelly-belly. I hope that everyone will enjoy proudly rubbing and holding their bellies, once it is obvious you are 'with child' people change their attitude to you and become more sensitive - in my experience of last time anyway. Am also ditching my jeans for pregnancy ones, about 2 months earlier than last time!

Roll on 'blooming' second trimester I say.

bethoo · 18/06/2009 10:26

i refuse ot succumb to maternity wear just yet {grin] though i appear to have a severe jelly belly where my abs used to be the mw said that on your third your body remembers where it deposited the fat so starts to layer the flab! something like that! so now i am going ot have to say bye ot the close fitting tshirts and retaliate and admit defeat and wear my baggier tops! woe is me! luckily can still fit into tm y size 8 jeans!

EsmeandDante · 18/06/2009 11:19

Morning ladies hope you're all doing well

I am going to EPU today...hmmm...
Had some spotting and as I have PCOS as well (gah my body is such a mess...) the nurse phoned this morning and told me to come in today.

It is going to be my first scan so am a bit nervous. I think im about 11 weeks now so hopefully will be able to see a wriggly beating bean.
I feel a bit wierd as I was told that my chances of ever having kids was zero and now I'm pregnant by accident from a friend who was a very casual thing so its not as if I would try again if this isn't going to be a sticky bean. wierd feelings.

Anyways enough blabbing bout me! Hope you are all doing well - I love reading about everybodys different experiences. Definately helps with the "am i going crazy?" feelings!!

bethoo · 18/06/2009 11:35

welcome Esme and i am sure the scan will be fine so good luck what does your friend think about the situation?

EsmeandDante · 18/06/2009 11:53

aahhh the friend...

He was actually very calm and normal about it. I don't expect him to be around really very much but as it wasn't planned and it is my decision so I am happy with that. I think if you know from the start what you're letting yourself in for you know if you want to handle it or not.

The only issue is that I live in London a long way from my family so might go back to live nearer them. I can't pass up free babysitting! so I think he is worried that he might not have that much of a relationship with baby. I wouldn't want him to feel I was stopping him from having that. We will sort it though I'm sure. (or am i just being optimistically niave?) Any advice from people who have opinions or similar experiences would be most welcome!

bethoo · 18/06/2009 12:01

as this is your first i think it would be wise ot stay close to family for support an they must be over the moon esp as you were told you would not be able to conceive. the friend i am sure if he wanted to have a relationship there is no question about him driving up and having weekend access when the child is old enough. he may come round to the idea if he has no other children, men don't tend to be perturbed until the baby is actually born iykwim?

EsmeandDante · 18/06/2009 12:33

I guess things change once they realise that there is a living thing that is half of them around!
I will have to go back to work quite soon after probably so having family around would be a godsend in terms of childcare. But first of all I have to grow the thing!!

I will of course let you know how todays scan goes (fingers crossed emoticon)

coffeeicecream · 18/06/2009 14:14

Vivicliqcot- try and stay positive I am sure it is v difficult but concentrate on the wonderful heartbeating that it is the most important. HUGS
