fidelma - it is lovely that you had such nice news in the midst of what has been a stressful time

DS is being a page boy in November 09 so no time for me to lose any baby weight!

so, hopefully everyone is well ...

who has a scan this week?

I am so tired after work tomorrow i can barely function - don't know what i will be like in a month or two ...

weather not very summery is it, but my garden is blooming because of all the rain

have good days all
xx

littlepea72 · 08/06/2009 12:26

Smallone, they said that my DS was too big for me to deliver (i cant remember anything as i was soooo out of it). They now say that this baby is going to be alot bigger.... lol...but i would love to do it myself.

HappyTangerine · 08/06/2009 12:51

MW appointment went well,DH came in with me and we heard the heartbeat fo a while which was great. All measurements good. I think my bp went sky high when I saw the electronic bp monitor(a friend gave me one forn home and the cuff got so tight that it made my arm break out in blood blisters so now I'm scared of them.) My normal bp is 110/70 and this was 134/68 which I thought was a bit high but she said was perfectly fine. So I wonder what high bp is?

Q - where do you feel most of your movements? For me,I feel a lot of wriggling low down and some really strong movements to the right of my belly button. MW confirmed them as kicks. he funny thing was that the baby's head was there at the time of the scan - he's still lying transverse but now his head is on the other side so he's moved from one side to the other.

I forgot to ask today about antenatal classes-how do I book them? Not sure I want to go but DH is keen. 7 days to my holiday - I am so excited.

fidelma - 10 shopping trollies full at TKMaxx. My mum would have loved that, its her favourite shop! So sorry again about your friend, its lovely that you have the wedding to look forward to.

MrsKitty · 08/06/2009 13:54

happytangerine Your midwife should be able to tell you about NHS antenatal classes available to you (Think you are encouraged to book onto them from about 26+ wks - In my area, anyway) They may also offer a short breastfeeding course too - All usually held at the hospital (and often include a tour of the "maternity suite" ... There's also NCT courses (I would highly recommend as away to meet other mums with similar due dates - I'm still friends with the people I met on my NCT course 2 years later) You can book these any time (Earlier the better in some areas) - there is usually a link to the local booking officer on the national website www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/in-your-area

Hope all's well with everyone else...Lets all cross our fingers for the return of the sunshine soon!

MrsKitty · 08/06/2009 13:55

fidelma So sorry to hear about your friend.xx

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 08/06/2009 19:28

littlepea / smallone - DS got stuck last time thus ending in ECS. Still at least we would be 'honeymoon fresh', if it happens again, as they say ?????!!!!

Know what you mean about dreading the 6 weeks recovery though. Stuck in the house, can't drive, PND etc. I really hope I don't have to go through that again.

Is anyone going on pool antenatal classes or pilates antenatal classes. Was thinking of doing some but not sure when to start.

sammysam · 09/06/2009 08:53

Hi ladies!

All these tales of big babies really scares me! DD was plenty big enough at 8lbs 14, and the fact that all things going well this one will be a home birth i'm really hoping this one isn't bigger!!!

We had another scan yesterday to check all is ok re parvo virus. Went very well and the (lovely) consultant was very pleased and said that he is very confident that all will be ok now. He said he is happy to not do any more scans but that he was happy to if we wanted so I thought hell why not! We get more photos every time and at least I will have a better way of knowing how big the baby is (if that is a good thing?!) Baby is currently just above the 50th for head and leg but has a little fat tummy around the 80th!!! Saw lots of swallowing and some lovely clear pictures of a little nose and mouth, and was lovely to see and feel the kicking at the same time!

Consultant made me feel much better re the seperated abdominal muscles as he siad it is only women with very good tight muscles that it happens to (I was thinking that mine were so bad!) and that rather than the muscles just stretching gradually, because they are tight they just get to a point where they 'ping' and seperate. He said at some point I may need a support belt-which should be nice over the summer

Anyway-we have another scan in 4weeks and this time I don't have to be worried!! Saw the midwife as well for my 24wk apt. and she was telling me how everything is changing and from now on i'll see the same mw for every apt and she should also be at the birth (unless it is her day off) All antinatal apts will also be at home.

Fidelma-i'm so sorry about your friend. At least it sounds like you all have a lot of support around you.
What a brave little boy you have!!

Is anyone else planning a home birth? I've just realised that now this is all becoming quite real I need to look into the logistics I really want a birthing pool-anyone used one and can suggest some to look at?

I finally got round to planting out the peas and marrows yesterday so am quite proud of myself!

Sorry for the ramble-I know there were people who I wanted to reply to but can't remember now

Have a good day everyone x x x

rubyslippers · 09/06/2009 09:07

sammysam - very pleased you are in the clear re the virus. Must be a relief

had my 24 week check today with my GP and all is fine - got MATB1 form as well and now i need to speak to MW about the health in pregnancy grant thingie ... anyone got the paperwork for it yet?

baby very active - around my belly button and below it ... must have loads of room to swing around in there!

hope everyone is doing ok ...

xx

sammysam · 09/06/2009 09:11

Ruby-think they give it to you at your next apt-around 28wks as they can't give it to you before 25/26wks. Means the money won't come through for AGES!

Thanks-we are very relieved! Feels like it is actually happening now

HumphreysCorner · 09/06/2009 09:53

Great news sammysam

HappyTangerine-my baby is so low down so all kicks are near my bladder. He is also lying transverse, well he was at the last scan and it feels that way. I have never been told how big my baby was/will be with any of my pregnancies. Perhaps they don't bother in my area.

I have the grant form to complete but have to get the MW to sign it at my 28 week appointment. By the time the money comes through and the time it takes to order a pram the baby will already be here.

24 weeks today and suffering from terrible heartburn-it is making me feel sick again.

It was very sad in the news about the PG 22 year old who was stabbed to death in my town on Sunday at 4pm. Town is still open at that time. Evil man.

Hope everyone is OK and good luck for scans this week.

24 weeks!

idreamofbeanie · 09/06/2009 09:57

Hi Sammysam - I am planning a home birth too and I also want a birthing pool. I haven't really started looking at any yet but my midwife gave me the number for a home birth support group and said they could give me some advice about what I need/where to hire pool etc. You could ask your midwife if there is something similar in your area. There are a few MN threads on home birth too so sure we will find something. Glad your scans were all good and LOL and your baby's little buddha belly.

I'm off for my 24 week appt at lunchtime. I'm looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again but somehow it's not so much of a big deal now she is kicking away. Guess I don't need the reassurance any more. I still feel well but have occasionally been waking up with a really stiff lower back - feel tight across my back and onto my bum. I don't know if I am just twisting a bit when I sleep as I don't really like sleeping on my side or if it's due to the increased weight/bump + my general lack of fitness. Does anyone else get this? Any ideas how to stop it? It was much worse after my yoga class last week.

LittleMissBliss · 09/06/2009 12:52

hello all,

I had my 23 week appointment yesterday all well, messuring spot on for dates so that's good i guess. I asked for a MATB1 form but the said i couldn't have it until 26 weeks. 14 weeks before EDD!
Work want it ASAP but there isn't much i can do about it at the moment.

Feeling really tired over the last few days, fell asleep at 8.30pm yesterday.
Feeling really lethargic today. Spent the morning making meringues and lemon curd with ds as we have so many blooming eggs. A few of our friends keep chickens so we are never short of eggs.

Can't think of anything remotely interesting to do with him after his nap as i can't face leaving the house feeling too drained.

Hope you all have a good day.

Any more scans...?

Sammy Great news!

smallone · 09/06/2009 13:34

Hello, kicks/punches here seem to vary from bladder to above my belly button, and occasionally on either side so I think that the baby is doing cartwheels!

With DD I failed to progress past 6cm dilated, not sure why, although she was back to back and I was on constant monitoring so it was hard to turn her and she was 8lb5oz none of which will help, so who knows what will happen this time!

idreamofbeanie · 09/06/2009 13:45

LMB - that's odd. I got mine at my 20 week scan, I saw the hospital midwife afterwards and she gave me the form and told me to get it stamped at the reception desk on my way out. Sounds like a very full morning, hope you get a good sleep tonight.

Smallone - I think my baby cartwheels too. I have just had my 24wk appt and the midwife had very cold hands which set the baby off wriggling and kicking like mad. Although she found the heartbeat easily she had trouble listening for more than a couple of secs and she said it was because the baby kept wriggling and turning away. Managed in the end though .

HumphreysCorner · 09/06/2009 15:25

I was also offered a MATB1 at my 20 week appointment. Don't need one as not working this time.

IDOB-I don't get another appointment until 28 weeks, seems soooooooooo long between 20 and 28 weeks. Great you heard the HB.

HC

idreamofbeanie · 09/06/2009 15:47

HC - that does seem like a long time. The policy here is you see someone every 4 weeks from your booking in at 8 weeks until 28 weeks (so 12 and 20 are scans and the rest are with the midwife). After that your appointments are more frequent. Sometimes its a pain, especially when they are running very late like today, but generally it's great and very reassuring to hear the heartbeat and have a quick check up .

I was told today that from my next appointment (when they also recheck my bloods) they will start measuring my bump. I had to hide a smile as I tried to figure out how they work out how much is bump and what is just too much ice-cream .

Treats · 09/06/2009 17:14

Woohoo!!! My accountancy exam is now over. I've had a really stressful few weeks, with my show the week before last and then straight into relentless cramming to prepare for today, but now it's all done and I can finally relax and put my feet up. I've had today in my sights for a long time as the day when I can finally start to focus on preparing for baby without anything else to worry about.

It's also DH's birthday so we're off out to celebrate at a fancy restaurant this evening. There's a great mocktail menu (yay!) but I just might have a tiny glass of wine. Don't tell the baby .

HC - I was reading about that case in the paper this morning. How terrible that it was in your home town (Grimsby?). Apparently he was a stranger to her and just walked away really coolly afterwards. Thank God they caught him though!!

sammysam - Great news about your scan. Glad that the news is all positive - it must be putting your mind at rest after all the worry.

Don't know who said that they couldn't get a MATB1, but I got mine last week at my 22 week appointment. It's still sitting on my desk. I deal with all the HR stuff for my company and I don't actually know what to do with it! All the advice I've read says you need to "give it to your employer". So I've given it to me...... and now what? Spose I should pass it to our payroll.

Re: time between MW appts - I've only had one at 12 weeks and one at 22 weeks. My next one will be at 26 weeks, but with the GP rather than the MW, and then another MW at 30 weeks.

IDOB - LOL at icecream bump! Mine is mostly cake I think........

HappyTangerine · 09/06/2009 17:33

Feeling v bleugh today - woke up at 3.40am, MS back with a vengeance and I'm coughing & sneezing a lot. Think it may have something to do with all the time I spent in the pouring rain in a cemetary in Wales on Saturday- it was the 14th anniversary of my Dad's death and I'm feeling it so much more this year , especially knowing he will never meet our son. DH was a sweetheart, he stood there with an umbrella over me as I went fronm grave to grave (dad, grabdparents, godparents-too many family members in cemetary ). Can't be ill, I have too much to do! Anyway, better I feel rough now than next week when I am in Italy

Sammysam- excellent news

HumphreysCorner-I was so shocked when I read about that poor woman in Grimsby, such a horrifying random attack on someone who had everything to look forward to.Senseless.

Treats - hooray for exam finishing!

LMB - I was given MATB1 and the Health in pregnancy grant form at my 21 week scan but can't get them signed off until week 28.

HumphreysCorner · 09/06/2009 19:06

HappyTangerine-how sad for you. Sorry the MS is back but I suspect it is down to overdoing it. Hope you feel better soon.

Lol-my bump is Snickers shaped.

The girl in Grimsby was 7 months PG and was on the way to work at the Pizza Hut-she also worked for our local Telegraph. The bastard swine was in court earlier but bet he doesn't get much of a sentence when it comes to trial.

Has no one eles got piles???????

Have been getting holiday house ready for inspection tomorrow.10 trolly loads need to be unpacked.Ballet show on Thurs and another holiday inspection on Friday we must be mad.I am not ment to be working !!!!I think I need to find a proper job to get a rest! and some mat leave.

If anyone wants a holiday in Scotland give me a shout we are going to do some cheep deals to get the houses up and running.

Glad the scans are going well.Sleep well.

CalypsoFlame · 10/06/2009 08:41

Hi all,
Feeling quite well at the moment (still in bed by 10pm though ) trying to compensate for lack of regular cycling by walking a lot and feels good.

HMHB I've been doing ante-natal aqua-aerobics for about 3 weeks, really love it. Everyone else seems to be there to loll about with other pg women, which is of course great, but I seem to be the only one really going for it haha. I miss the gym...

SammySam YAY for your scan results, very glad for you. And your antenatal care seems particualrly good - same midwife from now on in to birth - very envious!
I was planning a homebirth with a birthing pool too, but since the scan reveal a low lying placenta, I can't make any firm plans until post-35 week scan, where I'm optimistic I'll get the green light. Friend had amazing home birth with pool 8 months ago and recommended you ket the type that has vertical poles supports as unlike the inflatable ring one, will stand up on its own puncture or not. Hers cost her £100, which was cheaper than hiring! Perhaps there are some second-hand ones around or would that be a bit grim?!

Glad others are planning home births

MAT B1: MW didn't give me mine at my 22 week, but don't see anyone until 26weeks and I'm going to try to claim for Maternity Allowance, which even then is highly dubious. Apparently a PhD scholarship doesn't count as any kind of income so I can only submit bits of research and teaching I've done as income. So a grand total of about £30 a week for me
Managed to get a duty Dr to sign a MATB1 for me on Monday but she put EDD 30.12.2009 on it instead of September. When I pointed this out to the receptionist, she said "but it says December on the computer"

treats Congrats on completing your exams!

smallone · 10/06/2009 08:54

Morning!

I was offered MATB1 at 16wks but not working so don't need it. Got my NHS prescription form but STILL haven't gotten around to posting it! Going to get HIP grant form at 26wks at my next appt.

YES fidelma I have piles too! Got them with dd, then they disappeared but developed a bowel condition in between and they came back. Not too bad at the mo, I recommend vaseline, not as messy as some of the treatment creams and it protects the skin enough for me. But like I say they're not too bad at the mo. I'd love a holiday in Scotland but I think the 6/7hrs travel with dd and my pregnant bladder is enough to put me off.

lal123 · 10/06/2009 09:36

morning all - I had my 20 week scan yesterday, no Mat B 1 yet - but a little girl which is much more exciting!

smallone - what NHS prescription form? I was automatically sent an exemption certificate? Don't think I had to fill anything in?

Littleblessing · 10/06/2009 09:51

Morning All

I am new to the thread. I am 21 weeks pg with my second baby. Already have a DS aged 2 and am due 19 October. Have my scan today but we have decided to have another surprise, just hope all is OK with baby.

Congrats to everyone on their scans and finding out the sexes.

Feeling a little nervous about the scan today, not sure why!

Take Care Ladies

idreamofbeanie · 10/06/2009 09:58

Hi Littleblessing, welcome to the thread and congratulations. Enjoy your scan this afternoon - I think it's totally normal to be nervous but as soon as you see your LO on the screen you can just relax and enjoy it.
