Hi ladies. Gorgeous hot day here. Hope none of you are getting overheated. Its hard to have a rest when its so nice out and I want to do some gardening.

DS (2.9) was being over exuberant earlier with the garden tools so DH has taken him to the park so I can get on with afew jobs but its too hot really.

Have a lovely weekend.

theboob · 13/06/2009 18:40

littlepea72 · 14/06/2009 08:41

We just got told that on Friday we get the keys to our new house, we only found out we could get a house 3 days ago so this is going to be one hell of a rush job! Thank god we live out of boxes anyway, but this time we stay put for over 2 years, so im going to make a home out of it. The garden is huge! And someone has really loved it, its beautiful. Roll on next week!

For some reason i feel like i have a really large bump, so does my MW, but anyone i have been talking to, they dont even think im pregnant! They look me up & down and ask if ive just found out, the shock on their faces when they find out how far i really am. Feel like i now want to stuff a pillow down my top!

Boob glad your exams are over, now you can relax and enjoy the summer

Princess....be warned! I will ask everytime untill we know the sex LOL.....Scan pic's are great! Mine are never that clear!

Hope everyone else is doing ok!

HumphreysCorner · 14/06/2009 16:55

Afternoon ladies

Have felt so poorly since Thursday but seem to be on the other side of it now. Don't know if it was a bug or just morning sickness returning. Yuck!

Getting a tad parnoid because everytime I tell someone I'm having another baby they look stunned and say I'm very small so is he not growing?

Must see to the tea as the acid is returning.

Big wave to all!

fidelma · 14/06/2009 21:21

I've enjoyed the weekend.Great to be together as a family. It's all go during the week and I do enjoy the slower pace at the weekend.DH and I had a curry on Fri and then collapsed into bed.We saw Star Treck last night and the baby went mad.The cinema is quite loud.(I do sound like an old fuddy duddy!!!)We also got some ex battery hens and we are going to bring them back to life.It maks you feel like you are doing some good.

Friend with cancer now has it on her heart as well as everywhere eles.It is a desparate situation. She has had to get the baby on to bottles.I am so sad for her.can't even allow myself to fully go there.I don't think it will be to long.

HumphreysCorner · 14/06/2009 21:49

That is so tragic fidelma-just can't imagine what her and her family are going through.

littlepea72 · 15/06/2009 05:36

Fidelma, Cancer is something i have seen alot in my family, its one of the most horrible things you can come accross. When it gets to that stage all you can hope for is that it will be quick. But with children & oh god, a baby that young..........what that woman & her family is going through, there are no words....she sounds very brave

Well done for saving the hens, for them to be able to run freely is great.

Hc i hope you are feeling a bit better x

smallone · 15/06/2009 10:01

Morning all, did far too much yesterday and now my bump really aches! Still on a cleaning frenzy but getting really hacked off that everytime I think a room is done, DH or DD seems to undo all my hard work. Grr!

Fidelma Horrible that this happens to people, I had alot of testing for carcinomas last year, very distressing as the doctors never seemed to believe the negative result and kept retesting! Spent the best part of 6 months terrified what would happen to DD and DH. Fortunately its all ok for me so far, and its the main reason we're having #2, I found my biggest regret would have been that I'd left dd as an only child. I hope they have enough time to do what they need to.

I'd love some ex-bats but our lease won't allow poultry keeping! In our next house I think, tho don't know when we'll be able to afford to move. ho hum.

princessmel · 15/06/2009 10:23

Oh Fidelma it's so sad Must be really hard for everyone to cope with.

HC people can be so insensitive can't they? I don't know why they'd say something like that. I'm sure your boy is growing just fine.

littlepea fab about the house! And hehe about the sex.... I am pleased with the scan pics, they are so lovely!

Smallone could you please come and have a cleaning frenzy at my house? Currently we have 2 sofa cushions (the bits you sit on) on the floor -we were looking for the remote, shoes, bags and crap all over the hall, a messy kitchen, 3 unmade beds, etc etc etc.

OP posts:
hackneybird · 15/06/2009 10:26

Fidelma I'm thinking of your friend-and I hope you'tr ok too. There are no words for a situation like this.

Littlepeayour house sounds lovely - juat what you want when expecting a new baby!

Treats and boob congrats on finishing your exams, well done! I did a Spanish GCSE this year for fun, and that was hard enough. Was weird studying again after all these years....xx

Hello to everyone else! Happy Monday.

Treats · 15/06/2009 10:32

Hi everyone - hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

Fidelma - so sorry to hear about your friend. It puts all our aches and pains and anxieties into perspective.......

Went to see my brother in Leeds this weekend. DH and I stayed in a nice hotel in the city centre, rather than sleep on his bedroom floor, and it was really lovely and relaxed. Had dinner in a really cool restaurant and generally had a nice time.

Brother wanted to take us baby shopping so we got the bus to Babies R Us in a nearby retain park. Really glad we did, because DH has had a complete mental block about buying anything for the baby, and we just end up arguing about it, so actually going to a baby shop with a neutral third party helped a lot - we came away with a baby monitor and a pack of baby vests - hurrah!

We also made some progress on the Great Buggy Debate - I think we've narrowed it down to the Quinny Buzz (which we both really liked, but doesn't get very good reviews on Mumsnet), the Phil and Teds Sport and the Bugaboo Bee. Think this debate has a long way to go still though.......

We also ended up having a ridiculous row about whether to get a changing table or not . DH insists that we must, but I think that it will take up too much space in our small flat and that we can get away with changing baby on the floor. It got really heated and neither of us want to back down. What have other mums done? Tell me I'm right .

My bump seems to be growing in spurts rather than gradually. It suddenly looked a lot bigger on Saturday than it had on Friday. Anyone else find this???

smallone · 15/06/2009 11:07

Treats I'm with you on the changing on the floor or on the bed, you won't want to take baby round the house to the changing table everytime you want to change a nappy. Also if you haven't got something to hand, you can leave a baby on a mat on the floor, but not on a table. Of course you could always get a mat, and say you'll see how you get on and then buy a table after the baby is born if you see the need. You can get cot top changing tables and drawer units that have removable changing tables which would take up less space. There is no law that says you have to buy everything before the baby arrives!

Princess I'll be round as soon as I've finished mine, and considering its like painting the forth bridge I wouldn't hold your breath!

HumphreysCorner · 15/06/2009 11:23

I don't think changing tables are any use as you don't want to pick up the baby and trot upstairs or into another room when a change is needed. Much easier to leave baby and fetch a mat and changing bag.

Will my headache ever go?????????

HC
x

littlepea72 · 15/06/2009 11:46

I had one of those baby baths/changing tables, worse thing we ever got! Bathing baby great, but if you were on your own then picking up DS, putting down top for the changing table was a nightmare. I always ended up using the changing mat downstairs on the floor, and at night the bed. And changing table takes up so much room.

HC, if headaches dont go away then i would go see about them. Just incase its something else, thats not meant to worry you, but its always good to know thats its ok. How long have you had it now???

Sparklytwinkletoes · 15/06/2009 12:00

Fidelma, so sorry for your friend, hope you are able to stay strong for her and her family.

I have (and still use! for my 2.5 yr old) a chest of drawers from Ikea (Hemnes 3 drawer) which has been the perfect height for DH and I to change DS on. Its great storage for all his stuff, and we have a couple of shelves over the top so everything is to hand. We keep a change bag downstairs for when you can't be bothered to go up, but it has been really helpful to have a dedicated area so that, particularly when he was tiny, when a major poo incident occured (!) there was somewhere to go where everything was to hand.

Funny how we all do things differently! I guess a big consideration for me too, is that I have quite a bad back, so getting up and down off the floor and bending over to change him would have been a bit tricky, esp. recovering from a cs too.

We're about to start doing up our spare room for DS to move into (its bigger) and will be getting another Hemnes chest to go in there as its been fab.

Baby has been disco dancing like a right loon for the last week or so now, sometimes it feels really funny, but I can't quite describe it, I assume its because its bumping into bits of me inside that wouldn't normally get bumped maybe ? I didn't feel DS anywhere near as much as this, but I guess that could be coz I'm not working. 24 weeks tomorrow, such a major milestone!

I've got a hair appointment in a bit which I'm really looking forward to, I'm a bit rubbish normally at staying on top of hair appts. but seems to a bit easier without having to fit work in as well!!

LittleMissBliss · 15/06/2009 12:55

We didn't bother with a changing table. Can see how they would be handy if you'd had a CS though. I've always just changed ds on the floor. I stopped using a mat after 4 months as I'd just slip the clean nappy under before changing. Clean him by folding over the dirty nappy (gets rid of most of the mess) wipe him over, whip out the dirty nappy and the clean nappy would we waiting under his bum!

My bump has got huge and itchy all very quickly and I'm sure I'm getting some new stretch marks. Damn it!

The house we liked has fallen through as they have decided to remove it from the market. So the search is on again. The whole moving thing has completely lost it's shine.

I had a day off work yesterday so went shopping with ds and dp to find a dress for the wedding on Friday, not much luck so will wearing an old dress from my last pregnancy. We did get ds some little black shoes from Brantano which were a bargain and we've ordered him a little grey suit which should be arriving this week. Can't wait to see him looking all smart on the day!

Instead I picked up some more Henna but from lush this time. It comes in a bar as it is mixed with coconut oils and few other things. It's such an awful messy process managed splatter henna all over the bathroom and it took ages to wash out like washing huge clumps of mud mixed with dried herbs out of my super curly hair. On the plus side the colour is really lovely and the coconut oils leave the hair feeling really soft and healthy.

Fidelma
So sorry to hear about your friend, life can be so cruel.

HC hope your headache eases soon.

I think you may look smaller because bumps tend to be at the front with boys and you are probably carrying differently to your girls. He'll probably have a huge growth spurt soon!
Just to add a girl i know lost weight during her pregnancy and was the same weight at the end of her pregnancy as she was pre-pregnancy, her bump was tiny. But we both had 7lb 1oz baby boys. So sizes isn't everything!

MrsKitty · 15/06/2009 12:58

Fidelma - What tragic news. Thoughts are with you all x

Re: Change table - I'm with sparklytwinkletoes - Don't bother with a specific change table, but a good height chest of drawers is perfect -We've also got the Ikea Henmes chest (8 drawer) which is nice and long and also the perfect height (I look around my house and believe that I keep IKEA in business sometimes!) We also used to keep a basket with a mat/wipes/nappies in downstairs too to save having to traipse up and down stairs all the time [insert lazy icon]

BellaCullen · 15/06/2009 13:37

Fidelma what sad news hope she has some quality time with her family.
Makes you appreciate everything more.

HC I have quite small bump too and had with ds too.You definitely carry different with girls and boys.I was huge with dd.Am worried whether am big enough but scan was all fine will ask GP later at my check up.Ds was 6lbs 13 so still good weight but had a big head thats what Im worried about.I would get your headache checked and maybe they can give you something stronger to take too.

Treats weve never had a changing table just dont have the space but haven`t really missed one just change omn the floor. You can get those changing tops that go on top off cot as compromise if your DH really wants one.

Felt sick again too last week, thought that had passed obviously not.We had lovely weekend went fruit picking yesterday which the dcs loved got loads of strawberries now though will try and make jam with it,wish me luck.

HumphreysCorner · 15/06/2009 14:15

Have had my headache since last Thursday so if I still have it tomorrow I might ring the Dr or MW-not sure who I ring. Dad has a blood pressure monitor so when I took it on Saturday it was 121/87 which is higher than normal so will take it again when I go later and see what it is.

Thanks for your reassurances over my bump. It is right that I have a low down out front one.

DevilsAdvocaat · 15/06/2009 14:27

hello,

laptop still broken so just skim read through the mound of posts!

was dh's birthday bbq this weekend (his bday is tomorrow) and ds was a little monster the whole day which really put me under so much strain. he kept throwing toys for some reason.

anyway it's his birthday on saturday and we're having another bbq for him so i hope he's better behaved.

changing mats are better imo, second mrskitty re keeping two sets of everything upstairs and downstairs. much easier

was sick a couple of times last week through tiredness. definitely starting to feel heavy now! can't believe there's still another 4 months of this!

sammysam · 15/06/2009 15:10

Fidelma-i'm so so sorry about your friend. I just can't get my head round that situation-it is just so awful

We had a changing mat thing that goes on top of the cot-would never have coped without it!! Especially in the early days when you are talking 12+ changes a day and they are so tiny and also when they are moving as the few times i didn't use it dd was off-but on the cot top thing she couldn't! Dp even uses it now on the rare occasion he gets dd ready for bed! Brilliant buy-think about £15 from babies r us. Will treat ourselves to a new one as cos dd is too heavy for it now it isn't at it's best!
We never changed her on the floor-always went upstairs as it wasn't that far and I needed the exercise

Had a lovely busy weekend-has left me VERY tired but very happy and relaxed as well!
Had a call from my friend who's dd's party we went to on sat to say that both her girls have chicken pox-dd is very grumpy today and complaining of a sore throat.....doesn't look good does it?! I'd like her to get it before #2 is here but we have a busy couple of weeks ahead so it'll cause some problems!

I feel quite small still but think that it is maybe because I have been showing for much much longer this time so maybe it'll be much more gradual? I was all out front last time and am the same this time so from behind and from straight on it is hard to tell!
I find it best to ignore most people's comments-some people just can't help themselves!!!

I'm at a point of morning sickness and heart burn which i'm seeing as a good thing as had the same with dd (but at least 5 wks earlier!) so hopefully i'll be just left with the heart burn soon

Treats · 15/06/2009 15:48

Ha ha! Thanks for all your feedback ladies - I knew you'd agree with me re: changing tables. I will tell DH this evening. He knows he's defeated whenever I say "Well someone on my mumsnet board says......"

HC - if you've had a headache since Thursday I would definitely speak to the GP about it - that definitely signals that's something's wrong IMO. Probably nothing serious, but you should get it checked out. I would call the GP rather than the midwife, as it might not be a specific pregnancy-related thing iykwim.

LittleMissBliss - sorry to hear that the house fell through. It always sounds as if house hunting is going to be fun, when you're thinking about doing it, but the actual reality is quite nightmarish. If your bump is itchy, have you tried Bio Oil? Works really well for me.

princessmel · 15/06/2009 18:36

Just a quick note about the changing table

I used a chest of drawers with ds (with a soft change mat on top) and it was fine. We had a change table with dd but I only bought it as it was in the sale. Plus it had storage underneath for her nappies etc.

We only really used these for morning and night time changes. The dc's used to lie on them in their towels after the bath and we'd get them ready for bed etc. During the day, unless we were upstairs we just used a portable change mat downstairs.

Oh and I don't agree about carrying different with boys and girls! Sorry
My bumps were identical for dd and ds.
And both my sil had boys twice, and both times didn't just 'carry out front'!! I really think it's to do with where the babies lying, the placenta, your weight etc etc.
I'd pop to get checked tomorrow HC just to get your headache checked out.

Bad news about the house littlemissbliss

OP posts:
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 15/06/2009 20:10

Thought I'd join in the great changing table debate.

We have a v small bedroom for DS1 but did get a changing table. All the nappies and stuff go in the basket drawers and you can put wipes, babygrows etc in there. We got an attachment that hooked on the side for cotton wool etc. We used it to change DS when we were upstairs. If I was downstairs would use a matt on the floor.

DS1 is 2.9 now and we still use it to bring him up to a decent hight to get him dressed and get him ready for bed when we need to. I still keep a load of stuff in it too.

I'm sure we could have survived without a changing table but it saved our backs.

HC I've been having headaches too. Think its to do with being hot and not drinking enough alcohol water.
