Good Luck June. Hope things are moving on for you Can't wait to hear.

Hiya Naat Sounds like you are coping really well with your lo

Hello to everyone else. I feel a little bit more like myself today but still very tired. Had lots of visitors and its all been a bit of a blur.

Somebody pinch me.......DD slept from 12.50am to 7am this morning!!!! I kept waking to check on her and was so tempted to wake her for a feed but we spent so much time yesterday trying to feed when she didn't want it so decided to let her sleep. I woke her at 7am and she took 80mls of formula She is such a calm and settled baby I cannot believe it. Its such early days yet but what a great start!!!

Just a quick run down of my birth story for anyone that may be interested: - (ok maybe not so quick).

Saturday evening - No signs of baby coming at all. Had no pineapple, no sex, no curry....woke at 5am Sunday morning for a trip to the toilet and before I could pee I felt a trickle that I guessed could be my waters breaking. I was not convinced so stayed on the toilet for a while just to be sure and then crept downstairs for a jar to put a sample of the waters into for the hosital. It was pink straw coloured so I knew things were on their way I woke DH and we took our time packing the car before waking the kids.I was having no pains at this point, just very minor period cramp.

We dropped kids to MILs at 6am and made our way to the hospital where I was admitted and sent directly to a delivery room.I was not in active labour but my BP was sky high once again (always happens when body starts pre-labour). We were monitored for an hour and moved to a pre-labour suite. Contractions started at 7am and were coming every 5 minutes. I used a gym ball which I found was great for getting through the pains. I also did some walking around and had to keep going to the toilet. Over a period of 5 hours I was getting regular painful ctxs but after 2 examinations I was still not dilating. I began to feel this was going to be a long day (like my 1st labour). I asked to be examined again at 12 noon and I was finally .5cm!! Because I was in such distress with the pain I was moved to a delivery room and when examined again was 3cm I "begged" for the epidural and started on gas and air. The anaesthetist arrived but as he was prepping me I had an unbelievable urge to push. The midwife asked me what I wanted to do and I said "Push". The epidural was cancelled, I was 8cms and 10cm soon after. I pushed in a squatting position until babys head was out. During this time I must mention that I was squeezing the dear life out of dhs fingers.

Once the head was out I got up onto the bed on all fours and pushed out the rest It was the most amazing birth experience I have had of all 3. I am amazed that I did it without pain relief, and was amazed how once I had reached the pushing stage the pain seemed to subside. The gas and air was simply a distraction, did not make me feel woosy or drunk etc. Labour was hard but quick. Established labour was 53 mins!

Our new baby was placed underneath me and the midwife kept saying "Look what you have". I was speechless and kind of frantically looking for the willy. The mid wife had to tell me that she was a girl and DH and I have been in shock ever since. We were all set to have a "Harry"

chocciedooby · 18/06/2009 09:08

Can anyone tell me how long they bled for after delivery? Sorry tmi. .

When I was in hospital I was having horrendous afterpains (baby no.3 eh!) every 10 mins for 8 hours and no pain killers. BP sky high so on meds for that.

I took a trip to the toilet and had the urge to bear down (again) and out came 2 "huge" pieces of flesh. (hope I'm not making anyone ill). I was convinced I had delivered some leftover placenta and told the midwives. They wanted to see what I had depositied but I had flushed it away. It was too big for clots. I am talking the size of a fist! I am still bleeding quite a bit at home but feel ok. Just wondered if anyone was the same.

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 09:13

choccie Great story!

Well, Adam took a bottle this morning, so he can come home in about 24 hours!!! Big debate at my house today as to whether they will release him on Saturday/the weekend if they don't release him tomorrow! I now effie is going to do 2 nights rooming in with Rupert, but unless they insist, I want to bring Adam straight home.

Congrats to all the new mummies and the rest of you get to it!!

silkcushion · 18/06/2009 09:27

Tee - great news about Adam I can totally understand why you want him home asap.

June - fab news about yr contractions - you must be so relieved. let's hope you've got yr lo by tonight

Choccie - lovely birth story. No wonder you wanted an epidural after all that work and only a few cms dilated! Isn't it funny how yr body can just suddenly get on with it though? Amazed at how well yr little girl slept last night (surely you can't be that lucky) As for bleeding last time - iirc I bled the whole time I was in hospital (4 days cos dd had jaundice) and definitely had some BIG blood clots that made me worry they were bits of placenta. Think it all started to die down a bit like a light period after that for a while. Hth

Naat - I am amazed at yr ability to post like that when you've been a feeding machine for days. Make sure yr getting enough rest. I know the thread's addictive but not more important than sleep surely?

No news/signs here. Dh's birthday today so he actually went to work late (8am) and spent some time opening cards/presents with me and dd this morning which was lovely. He says he'll be home early tonight so we can take dd for a walk before bedtime. It was his suggestion - take the same route we did on the night before I went into labour with dd. We walked to what will be her primary school and dh talked to her through my tummy telling her how fab the world was and what she could see/do if she came out - very silly. But I went into labour the next morning. Even less likely this will work tonight as tomorrow is my due date. I think the odds of having 2 dcs on their due date would be about 0.25%

Off to see the mw now - catch you later

worriedamy · 18/06/2009 10:00

Hi everyone!! Thanks for all your messages- you are a supportive lot aint you!!!

Woo June thats good news if things are getting going for you!! Hope everything is going okay for you... will be interesting to see how big your LO actually is!!

What are you ladies in waiting doing about Father's Day??? With being due on Sunday, I don't know whether to get DP something, or whether it would be tempting fate??? It would be nice for the baby to arrive in time for Father's Day... but I can't see it happening at the moment!! Any ideas??

Had zero sleep last night, my mind was going crazy about all the different scenarios which may happen over the next few days... maybe reading birth stories last thing before going to bed isn't the best thing to do in the world!! Also, reading the page about episotomies and tears in my pregnancy book probably wasn't a good idea either!!

oh and ermintrude... sorry, forgot what a tetchy lot you fogies can be

ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 10:01

June, how fab, hope those cx keep coming. And the very fact you're getting symptoms means that even if you do end up with induction it sounds as though your body is getting ready which would make everything happen more smoothly (I was talking to a mum who'd had 2 inductions at 12 or 13 days post due-date and both had been good manageable labours with no intervention, so it can be done). But fingers crossed for you doing it before they get to you

choccie great birth story, sounds like you came over all Amazonian . If you'd had the epidural you could have been there for hours more. but you listened to your body and pushed. And another surprise girl!

Did the 'flesh' look like pale raggedy membranes? Sounds like bits of placenta - with my DD the MW warned me I'd get some and I had to save it for the visiting MW to look at - lucky lady. If you get any more (you might have to pee into a bucket or hold a pad of toilet paper ready to catch anything) save it to show MW just to be sure.

I bled quite heavily after both births for days and the lochia continued for about 3-4 weeks but v light at the end.

Naat lovely to hear from you; Mila sounds like a champion feeder already

silk hope your appt goes well this aft.

Have lovely days all xx

loooouise · 18/06/2009 10:02

Morning ladies! Still here

June I have got everything crossed for you, I wish you a great delivery so much, you've been so brave and put up with so much rubbish, you deserve this!! Looking forward to hearing happy news soon xxx

Naat lovely update, human milk machine!

Choccie that's fab story, again, I can't reiterate how useful it is for us first timers to hear your stories. I think waiting for this baby has to be one of the most surreal experiences of my life....my brain won't let me concentrate on a novel or film, I'm just constantly trying to imagine the labour, which is of course, unimaginable. I'm so glad this was your 'best' delivery and still love the twist at the end!

Tee and Effie, sending you solstice wishes that you have your babies home for the longest day this weekend, and the strength to manage the disappointment if not....must be so hard for you ladies xx

Ermintrude, Zozo, Worried, Silk and all others in the antechamber of anticipation, hi to you! Anybody any suggestions for filling the overdue hours? I have The Wire, an overwritten novel to read, may be tempted by a manicure, but am really at a loss now! I'm started to take baby's non arrival quite personally!

worriedamy · 18/06/2009 10:16

loooouise-- its hard trying to picture how something will pan out when you have NO idea isn't it!! I haven't got a clue... never really had period pains so haven't got a clue what contractions will feel like if/ when they start happening!! Got my hopes up a bit last night when I was getting those shooting pains but with BH at the same time... but looks like I had just overdone it cleaning the bathroom and doing a tidgy bit of ironing.

zozokat · 18/06/2009 10:22

June how exciting, good luck!!! and how fab if you have avoided the induction!!

MrsMcJnr wow can't believe some of the lines you've gotten 'is the baby still alive' ??? At 7 months when I ran into a colleague at a conference and he blurted out 'is it twins?' almost immediately (so i must have looked enormous? or was he presuming IVF due to my age? either way, ouch). My mum was also asked point-blank by one of our neighbours, 'is the baby in-vitro?' i was 36 at the time. also ouch!

So great to read your birth story choccie, last minute avoidance of epidural, very well done!! and she sounds like an angel!

Silk, good luck with mw appointment! off to mine v soon?

Worriedamy i got my DH a cute little father's day card from the baby, but he accidentally unearthed it while looking for something on my desk the other night.

loooouise among other things i'm hanging out a bit too much on MN, twitter and facebook

Fingers crossed to all of us ladies in waiting, and hope the new mums are doing well!

zozokat · 18/06/2009 10:27

oops sorry meant to say Ineed yes i'm in London. definitely up for meet-up though we'll be away for most of September (have planned a long 'meet the baby' road trip around the east coast of Canada/US to see the relatives!)

worriedamy · 18/06/2009 12:06

I'm up in the North West, so no where near London unfortunately.

Naat · 18/06/2009 12:25

Hello!

I need the help of experienced and wise Juners, ladies

Mila is feeding quite well, I can't complain, nipples are tender but she has been good and not cracked them or hurt them badly

She burps after feeding, so no problems there.

However, she has a very hard time passing wind. She's getting the usual (according to the MW) "runny gas" or "gas with a gift" but she spends a long time trying to pass it and cries desperately. She has about 3 or 4 of those episodes a day and her voice is so hoarse now because of them and how she cries.

I'm not going to go into how bad that makes me feel and how much I want to cry every time it happens, as I know it's the hormones and bla... but

can anyone give me any tips to help her through this? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks lovely Juners!

llynnnn · 18/06/2009 12:27

hi all

I'm finally out of hospital and can make an attempt to catch up!

My beuatiful baby girl, Isobel, was born on saturday morning at 00:16, weighing 8lb 10oz. she looks just like her dad and has lots of lovely auburn hair!

I went in to be induced on friday morning were they tried a pessary at 11am, by 6pm nothing had happened so they then checked i was 3cm dialated so they broke my waters. My 7pm i was having full on contractions every 5mins, it happened so quickly! My 10pm I had been using my tens machine and the gas and air and was the contractions were coming every couple of minutes and were really strong. the midwife checked me and i was fully dilated!! she gave me some pethedine for the pain (which really worked!!) and i started pushing. this seemed to last forever and as i had to have the monitor on (prev csection!) couldnt really move much, but finally my little girl was born just after midnight. I had torn a little so have a few stitches but they arent giving me any problems at all.

The reason I have been in hospital all week though is that I cant wee!! just before i was going to be discharged at saturday lunchtime i realised i hadnt been to the loo. I mentioned it to the midwife who said i would have to keep trying before i could go, by 4pm still nothing and my stomach hurt so much as my bladder was so full. they had to put in a catheter to drain the water (there was almost 3litres drained !!) but i still couldnt go, they they kept me in with a catheter for 24hours then a further 36hours to rest the bladder, which still hasnt worked. they finally let me out yesterday but i have a catheter in now for 2 weeks. I have to go back to the ward on 1st july to have it removed and hopefully things will be normal again. Its just awful, i feel like an old lady with a bag strapped to my leg and dont feel like i want visitors or to go out anywhere. i cant wait until this part of it is over

Isobel is doing really well though, just had her weighed again and she has only lost 40grams, she is feeding well, even though it is constant!! but she is beautiful, settled and content. dd1 seems to have taken to her welll so far too and wants to help out and cuddle her all the time (hope it stays that way!)

Anyway, sorry for boring you all. i'll have a read back now to catch up with all your news. Hope everyone is well x

lauraloo09 · 18/06/2009 13:01

lynnnn congrats on baby isobel and thank you for sharing your induction/birth story shame you were in hospital for a few days but at least your home now and glad to hear baby is doing well

worriedamy I'm in Scotland and nowhere near London but I am hoping to get down for the meet-up depending on train/flight prices

Well just spent about 40 mins cleaning bathroom which is surprising because it is so small lol think i'll go for a walk today and try and get baby out...been having niggly pains and cramps again so hopfully cleaning/walking will help

Any news on june yet?!?!?!

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 13:12

Good to hear your story lynnn and very pleased to hear little Isobel is doing well. Tough luck with your bladder problems though . Hope that's sorted and you can wee normally again soon!

Naat Does Mila's tummy feel very hard when she's crying, and does she draw up her knees towards her tummy? Those can be signs of colic, which can give LOs a lot of pain. It's most common for colic sufferers to have one bout, usually early evening time, but they don't always follow the same pattern. There are things like Gripe Water which pharmacists can give you but it's not usually a good idea to give newborns anything apart from milk. If she's well winded it could just be her digestive system getting into the swing of things, especially dealing with milk coming in..? But if it persists MW/HV should advise. I know lots of people who swear by cranial therapy although I've never used it. Hope she settles soon, and try not to get too upset by the crying - sometimes they can make a heck of a noise which is more protest than pain.

lauraloo I meant to clean bathroom and toilet but have somehow managed not to bother . I'm so lazy, even though I'm feeling stir-crazy.

No sign of June - must be good news, I hope.

lauraloo09 · 18/06/2009 13:18

hiya well not sure if things are moving on for me but i think so...TMI ALERT

Just went to toilet for a wee and when i wiped there was a lot (i mean a LOT) of thick clear discharge like someone had sneezed badly. When I wiped again there was a big dollop of discharge which is unmistakably brown in colour could this be my show?? i know i thought i had my show weeks ago but the amount of discharge then was tiny in comparison to what I have just had...could some of the mummies help with this?! I know midwifes need to know when waters break but do i need to let them know about the show??

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 13:41

lauraloo yep, that's your show, and a lot of mucus plug too by the sound of it. Yum! .

Now, with my second labour I lost my plug at 12 noon, called my DH at 2.30pm and plopped DS out at 5.30, just in time for the MWs to catch him. But some people can have a big show days before contractions start. So unless your waters break or your contractions really get going you don't have to call labour ward or MWs - but if you're uncertain just do it, they won't mind - and they'll advise.

Good luck, it's all on the move!

ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 13:42

PS: Hmm, maybe I should scrub that bathroom floor after all....

lauraloo09 · 18/06/2009 13:44

thanks ermin wonder if bending over the bath scrubbing it helped bring on the show lol going to try and keep active and hopefully something will happen

I really hope that no news from june is good news would be great if she could avoid the dreaded induction!

OP posts:
silkcushion · 18/06/2009 13:45

Laura - does sound like another show which is promising. I had one a week before, then more on the day when labour started. MW doesn't need to know but tis a good sign.

Naat - sorry to hear yr lo is having probs with wind. Ask the MW when she next visits or have you got a hv you can ring?

Llynn - congratulations on the birth of Isobel. Nightmare about the weeing problems though (never heard of that before with a vaginal birth) Hope things improve soon

Ermin - I too am going stir crazy. MW appt went well ie bp is fine, lo is engaged still, heartbeat good etc. MW suggested sweep next Tuesday at 40 + 4.

Distraction techniques? I have been excellent at this for the last 4 weeks since finishing work. Write a to do list for the week/day and plough through it. However, have pretty much run out of things to do and motivation in the last few days. Jsut picked up a chick lit book to read (recommend mind numbing activities) and have started watching a load of crap on Sky (not usually a big tv watcher). Dd is still in nursery everyday as we decided to not disrupt her routine but I am dropping her much alter and picking her up earlier so that make the time to fill shorter

Hello to everyone else

llynnnn · 18/06/2009 15:06

Will try to catch up now!

Laura - sounds like a show to me too! not that i ever had one! hope this is finally it for you!

Naat - congratulations on the birth of Mila (beautiful name) dd1 had trouble with wind, i found gently rubbing her stomach in a clockwise way helped a little or when she is lying on her back make bicycle movements with her legs in the air iyswim! hope that helps!

Daisy - congratulations on the birth of Fraser, another gorgeous name! Hope you are both doing well

Insy - congratulations of the birth of Edward! great news!

Tee - really pleased to hear Adam is doing well, hope you have him home now

Bunnymother - congratulations on the birth of your daughter (do you have a name yet?) the pictures are just adorable

Nemo - congratulations on the birth of Charlotte Isabel!

Choccie - great birth story and congratulations on the birth of Elina (lovely name!), pleased you had such a good experience. not sure about the bleeding, mine was really heavy for the first few days but has already slowed down to a normal period amount. Great news about the good nights sleep too, long may it continue! Isobel seems to think that from 10pm-4am its feeding time and feeds constantly

June - hope from the lack of posts that you are meeting your little one now!
Loouise - the overdue hours are VERY hard to fill! i was 11days late in the end and it does drag! i just kept myself busy and did all the things i wouldnt beable to do now baby is here (met friends for lunch, watched old/cheesy films etc!) hope ity happens for you soon

Mrsmcjnr - your pictures are gorgeous! such beautiful children. lol at the stupid things people say when u r heavily pregnant!

doris - hope your dd2 is ok and its not chicken pox

Effie - hope the rooming in goes well and you get Rupert home asap

Ineed - hope you are feeling better now and the cream/tablet are helping

Hi to everyone I've missed and sorry if I've got anyhting wrong, all those still waiting I hope it happens really soon and you can enjoy cuddles with your little bundles. I was 11 days overdue and it DID happen so dont lose faith!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 18/06/2009 19:11

Well, to top everything off, I've now got a secondary infection in my womb (happened with DS too, though that time I ended up back in hospital on IV antibiotics for two days).

Felt rough as arses this morning with dragging pains in my stomach, a temp and my bleeding started again last night (had stopped to almost nothing for about a week.

Saw a lovely doctor (another one - seems doctor evil is a one off!) who prescribed me two lots of antibiotics. So looks like I can look forward to some more thrush in a couple of weeks..... isn't childbirth great!?!

silkcushion · 18/06/2009 19:14

Ineed - I'm really sorry to hear this hope the antibiotics kick in quickly.

Thread is quiet today. I expect everyone else is having babies [self pitying emoticon] I've just been to a local pub with dh and dd for his birthday and eaten a fairly hot thai green curry! Can't face sex so will just have that as today's effort to get my sticky baby out.

lauraloo09 · 18/06/2009 19:59

evening all

ineed sorry to hear about the infection and hope the antibiotics work for you x

silk it has been pretty quiet here today, hope other juners are in the process of giving birth

Well since having my show all the cramping and twinges i've had over the weeks have faded...I was hoping they would have got worse only thing that has been happening is i need to wee a lot more than usual, at least 5 toilet trips in an hour...really hope something starts soon

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 18/06/2009 21:16

Tricky day today my DS is really playing up, slapping me, kicking me, constantly screeching, very trying and tiring, I want my fun little boy back I don?t think he is feeling great but maybe part of this is a reaction to Aaliyah, makes me sad also my cat Tia who I have had for 12 years managed to escape the patio last night. She is a housecat so knows nothing of traffic etc. Anyway, I had a bad night wondering where she was and worrying about her and this morning I searched the grounds for her and put up a missing notice, within an hour a guy came to the door saying he?d seen her downstairs, she must have been hit by a car as her leg is broken in 2 places and she may have internal injuries. It must have happened after I?d looked for her. She is at the vet?s tonight and is stable but tomorrow we have to assess things and decide if she is up to a long and difficult op to mend her leg. The awful thing is that money also comes into it, we were insured in the UK but not here and the costs are already over 100 euros and we have been told the surgery will be very expensive on top of that, the Civil Registry refused to register Aaliyah?s birth today arguing that because she wasn?t born in the hospital they did not know for sure she was mine I argued that the ambulance men cut her cord and assisted me with the placenta and could vouch for that but they wouldn?t have it, my application has to go before a judge and they may want a proof of maternity test, can you believe this country??

Sorry to share all that how are you all? Any more babies?
