worriedamy · 15/06/2009 11:07

hello! Is it too late for me to join you all?! I'm due next Sunday (21st) and wish I had found this thread aaaaages ago!

June2009 · 15/06/2009 11:18

hey worried never too late ;) Welcome!
Have you been having any signs that labour is on its way at all? Is it your first?

ermintrude13 · 15/06/2009 11:24

Welcome worriedamy - do tell us more about yourself, you join us in the middle of baby mayhem

Tee hope you're home today and look forward to hearing all about little Adam xx

bigcar · 15/06/2009 11:35

morning all

worriedamy, welcome, of course it's not too late, join in

naat, huge congratulations, can't wait to hear more news!

tee and choccie, thinking of you both. tee, hope you and your little man make it home soon

insy, hope this is it and all goes well, will be eagerly awaiting your news. You've done it twice before, you will be fine Send someone else up in the loft for the moses basket!

ineed, hope you get on ok with the doc today, sounds like you've caught it early enough for it not to be too much of a problem. Sorry, no personal experience of thrush.

june, hope the sweep has some effect, it's not nice having the clock ticking on induction is it!

daisy, hope this is it for you too, hope all goes well for you and dh pulls his finger out and steps up when needed!

dreamy, happy birthday to your dd have fun!

Just about managed the school run this morning, although it took me 15 minutes longer than usual to get there, guess the spd really hasn't gone, I still felt really slow and really couldn't go any faster. Now I ache like hell at least I'm seeing the physio again next week. Dh went in early to work so he should be home to do the school run this afternoon and hopefully for the rest of the week too. Must remember pelvic floor exercises, I keep forgetting!

More babies today please ladies

waves to all

bigcar · 15/06/2009 11:44

ermin, lol at baby mayhem

ineed, meant to say, well done on bf in public

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 15/06/2009 12:05

Saw horrible, nasty, patronising wanker of a doctor and left the room feeling worse than I did before! He said he didn't think it was thrush, it could be any number of things (but didn't suggest what) and that I needed to wait and see if it got worse (but didn't want to say how long). He implied that I just wanted a diagnosis and was labelling it as something when it clearly wasn't (um.... isn't that why you go to the GP?)and that if he prescribed anti-fungal medication there was a chance it wouldn't help at all (but a chance it could, surely?) He asked if I was taking pain medication, I told him I was taking ibuprofen, he asked if it helped the pain, I said 'no' and HE JUST SHRUGGED! He was so condescending and his bedside manner was appalling. AAAGH!

The latch is good, my nipples aren't even that sore, the pain is deeper in my breast and it hurts more after I feed. Emily's got a white coating on her tongue and two little white spots on the roof of her mouth. He said 'that's not thrush, it should be all over the mouth', I said 'how long does that take?' and he said 'a few days' she's only had the coating for 12 hours so it hasn't had a chance to get round her mouth. I was onto a loser as soon as I walked in as he didn't seem to want to listen to anything I had to say. He even accused me of looking it up too much on the internet! What a f*cker!

I've made an appointment for Wednesday with a lovely female doctor who will at least suggest things it might be, if not thrush. I've also got the HV at 1.30 so I'll see what she says.

I rang poor DH in tears and felt awful afterwards because DH couldn't do anything and now keeps ringing to check I'm okay. DS was cuddling me saying 'don't cry mummy, the doctor will make you better'. That made it all worse!

Anyway, enough woe is me. Hope we hear from Naat and choccie soon xx

worriedamy · 15/06/2009 12:06

hello everyone just typed a huge response to you all... having to use my phone for the internet at the mo, as the computer has broke, and just lost it all! V frustrating! No signs of labour just yet, but not really sure what I am looking out for as this is my first and unknown territory!! Go to see the midwife on thurs, but hoping wont need to by then!! Had a relatively straightforward pregnancy up to now, no sickness or ill effects really! Apart from no sleep for a good two months now... how cruel is it that you cant sleep when you know you have months of no sleep ahead of you!! Getting a bit anxious now though as measuring on the small side (33 weeks) and I dont feel very big at all. Every single person without fail is shocked when i tell them how far along I am, so cant wait for him to make an appearance now just so I know he is okay and healthy!!

June2009 · 15/06/2009 12:24

Ineed Sorry to hear the doctor was not help, sounds like one of these who see it everyday and deals with us like machines as opposed to human beings :S. Hopefully the hv can help you out when she comes round today.

worried What you're looking for, I think, is some kind of painful contractions or waters breaking or a "show" even though that might not happend and if it did doesn't actually mean labour is imminent.
pregnancy is such an exact science isn't it...

Feeling pretty miserable today so gonna go for a walk around the shops.

I assume that because the inner part of my cervix was still closed that the mw didn't actually do a "proper" sweep iyswim. (and maybe that's why it wasn't too uncomfortable or painful after!)
I might call them today to see if they can do another one tomorrow or wednesday.

ermintrude13 · 15/06/2009 12:51

Ineed what a tosser doctor, why do they bother being GPs if they don't care about patients? Hope the woman you see on Weds is a whole heap better, and that things don't get worse between now and then. Maybe after talking to her, put in a complaint about him? Especially if it does turn out to be thrush and could have been treated effectively earlier! Milk 'curds' can form on baby's tongue and mouth as part of feeding, but they can be removed, unlike thrush, so he should have been able to tell the difference). MW should be able to advise as well, and should be used to tearful new mums so let her know how you're feeling. x

bigcar sorry to hear your SPD is still bad but well done for managing the school run. It should go soon, shouldn't it?

worriedamy people keep telling me I must be having twins and I'm certainly not! Everyone's bump is difference, and first baby bumps are often smaller and neater (especially if you have a small frame) so if the professionals aren't calling you in for extra tests/scans I wouldn't worry - and even if they do it's often just to be safe. As long as he (so you know it's a boy, I guess?) is moving about he'll be fine in there.

June Hope the walk cheers you up - lovely sunshine here - I've just been feeling so much weight down below that I've had to lean over my gymball to reduce the pressure on my pelvic floor. I'm sure the LO is fully engaged, just need something to happen!

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 13:15

Ineed - what a tosser yr doctor was. Sorry to hear you actually feel worse not better after seeing him. Sure the one on wed will be better. Ds sounds very sweet and caring. How's he adjusting to his new little sis? I presume he thought he was getting a little brother too?

Ermin - I think my lo has shifted down overnight too. Woke 6 times for a wee between 12 and 7 (which is record for me) and (tmi alert) had a poo both just before midnight and at 7.30 (again most unlike me). Just feels like there is simply no room for anything other than her down there.

Big car - Pelvic floor exercises!!! can't remember when I last did them. Oh I'll be needing those tena lady pads for sure at this rate.

Worried - welcome to the thread. Agree that if yr healthcare professionals are not worried about yr lo then ignore all other comments. People discussing bump sizes are a huge source of angst for first (and all other) mums unless you don't listen

June - sorry the sweep hasn't worked yet. It's bound to be doing something though. Hope you have a nice walk

My mum and dad have just left. They're hoping I don't go into labour tonight as my Dad has an important appt tomorrow with his consultant about his newly diagnosed Parkinsons and I know my mum desperately wants to be there. If my hb goes to plan I shouldn't really need to call her back up to look after dd but if I have to go to hospital we've no one else. (and she's 2 hours away)

Have managed to do very little so far today - feeling very lazy. Must get started on the ironing Catch up later

daisy5 · 15/06/2009 13:39

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. My contractions keep bobbing around, get 11min, 10min, 9 min then 26 minute. Just had lunch and tidied up and they have slowed down again. Still definately not in full swing.

oh insy - I didn't catch that you were having contractions too. Excellent . You have probably had your LO by now and are sitting up in hospital having a lovely bonding moment while I am still making cups of tea at home and putting on another Coldplay DVD!

Ineed - I was treated like that by a couple of doctors, and when you are tired with a young child, it's the last thing you need. Well done on getting the female doctor on Wed. How annoying to have to wait. I remember when my dd was really unwell and the one doctor said 'that's what babies do, they cry'. My dp saw him at the playground a few days later and apparently his children were very unruly and he clearly had no control over them....which made us giggle!

erm - when they run out of room, I guess there is no way but out. Here's hoping LO sees the light

Right, 1.5 hours till dd returns from friend's house and 2.5 hours till dp returns from meeting I insisted he go to (nothing happening too fast here). What do I do for the next 90minutes to encourage labour aside from breast twiddle???

daisy5 · 15/06/2009 13:42

oh and june - my first sweep softened my cervix and dilated me 1cm, the second sweep 2 days later got my mucous plug out and by my rough estimation I think I could be around 3cm dilated now (is that right - three fingers wide?).

I'm do feel they made a difference, but nothing I noticed in the first 24 hours. You can go back in 2 days and ask for another. NICE (NHS) guidelines state that you can go in and request additional sweeps if you feel you want them.

Bloody show just starting to come now....

loooouise · 15/06/2009 14:18

Thinking of you Daisy and Insy, sounds like we'll have action from both camps soon. ((Drools with jealousy))
Daisy - my NCT teacher said 1 finger = 2 cms, so maybe you're 6!!

Ineed, your post about your dickhead of the GP has given me the RAGE. These people are paid by US to work for US. Get your DH to phone the surgery and speak to the senior partner. It's so upsetting to think that he could be going round speaking to patients like that all the time.

I am in such a bad mood, and yet I shouldn't be really as I'mm only one day overdue, which is nothing compared to you, June and Daisy.

I spoke to babyfather last night. We'd arranged that his mother would come Sat 4 July, then his dad and stepmum on Sun 5th. But he announces casually that his sisters will be coming too! I really, really like his sisters, but if I go another two weeks over, the whole fucking family will be here only 5 days after I've given birth! Before, incidentally, my own darling brothers, who have cooked for me, driven me to hospital appointments and helped transport all the baby equipment.
Would it be terribly unreasonable of me to ask if we can reschedule if I still haven't had it by the 27th? They are travelling from N Ireland and London, but I just think I need to put me first. Rage, rage, rage .

Ermin I can't help noticing how calm, cool and collected you are in all your posts. Can I have what you're having pls?

Nemoandthefishes · 15/06/2009 14:32

hi all
very quick message as girls are playing quietly for all of 5mins..lol

Thanks for the congrates messages
Charlotte Isabel was born at 7.50pm on sat weighing 7lb14ozs. Not as nice a labour experience as I have had with the other 3 but she is here and well which is the main thing. Had us worried yesterday morning as she stopped breathing but luckily I was in the hospital so MW took her off gave her oxygen and sucked mucus of her chest which is why she had stopped breathing. She is perfect and lovely last addition to our now rather large family

hope everyone else is well and lots of positive labour vibes xxxx

LittleSarah · 15/06/2009 16:25

Hi girls

Just had lovely afternoon with my cousin and her two. Great time chatting about how knackering it is and how different it is with two and how we much we are looking forward to no longer being zombies! Now just have to tidy up, it is amazing how after a few hours letting toddlers rampage and eating lunch the place is a diaster zone! Dd is happily watching DVD now and Alex is sitting hiccoughing on the sofa so I really should be getting on with it! I showed my cousin all my saved milk (all from leaking), I must have 25 bags of 4ish oz already, she couldn't believe it. Yes I am the queen of leakiness!

Daisy - You are doing so well lady, a day or two and baby will be here I'm sure!

Bigcar - I also am trying to remember to do pelvic floor, I occasionally do manage to squeeze a few in... .

Nemo - Congrats on baby Charlotte Isabel - lovely name! Glad to hear she is well after your wee scare, can't wait to see and hear more.

Loouise - Oh are you a member of the overdue club too now?? Waiting is hard. I'm not surprised you're not happy about babyfather's visiting plans! At the very least he should consult you first! They don't mean it but people can be incredibly thoughtless when people have babies, everyone wants a piece and all you want is peace and quiet...

Ineed - Charming doctor, some GPs are absolutely horrendous, why go into the 'caring' profession?? I hope you get better on Wednesday.

Silk - I think labour could be imminent for you. Before mine baby felt much lower (for about 36 hrs) and I also found myself in the toilet for longer and more frequent no 2s! (Sorry for TMI!) Anyway, obviously I may be completely wrong but it sounds so similar...

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 16:29

Nemo - congratulations on little Charlotte. Sorry to hear about the problems you've had but glad all is well now.

Loouise - totally speak to him again and say that you will arrange/organise visits based on when lo arrives. The last thing you want is hoards of bloody visitors 5 days after having a new baby (just when baby blues if you get them kick in). ffs it's bad enough putting up with this shite when they are yr in laws!!! Ps think Ermin must naturally be a chilled lady

I, however, have become a raging bag of slushy emotional hormones this afternoon. Watched some crap sky movie with Cameron Diaz and Ashton kutcher whilst doing the ironing and sobbed throughout because it was so lovely and they were falling in love. This lo has to come out soon or I people will think I've had a lobotomy personality transplant

Tee2072 · 15/06/2009 16:30

HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm home!!

Adam is still in SCBU. Saw the consultant today and he will probably be in for at least another week. He is much better, though!!!

Hope all is well here! I'll try and catch up!!

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 16:32

x posts LittleS

Glad to hear you've had a nice day. Rampaging toddlers have a similar effect to a mini tornado I think.

Hope yr right about the similarities - I certainly wouldn't mind if my hb was as fabulous as yrs aswell.

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 16:33

Tee - welcome back. How is Adam doing? And how are you feeling now?

June2009 · 15/06/2009 16:47

Thanks Daisy I just booked a second sweep for Wednesday, hoping that one works before Friday :S PFFFTTT (and a bit of cursing for good measure.)

loouise Your post made me smile, sounds a bit like me. I go from furious to miserable to ecstatic at the mo, a complete loony!! Hehe, I'm not saying you're a loony, just saying that hormones have a lot to answer for!! :D
Of course it's not unreasonable to re-schedule depending on when the baby comes.
I told my dad not to book any plane tickets until the baby is here now cause I don't want anyone to be staying with us while I'm up feeding every 2 or 3 hours and not being able to cook or entertain or string a decent sentence together due to lack of sleep. I wish they lived closer. (or stayed somewhere else, HA!) He was totally fine about it.

Few other things that I wanted to rant about (feel free to ignore, just needed to vent!)

  • When I woke up in the morning yesterday it was literally "snowing" pollen everywhere in the garden and in the neighbours garden and I kind of felt sorry for them because it looked like it came from our tree.
But then we went out and I realised there's LOADS of pollen EVERYWHERE we went and surely it's not all coming from our tree right. What is she going to do exactly when our tree is cut and there is still pollen everywhere, get the council to cut all the trees in the area?? What a cow. I actually felt bad when she said she considered moving somewhere else but realistically do you move to a green area with trees when you're allergic to pollen so bad? (and blame your neighbours for it!) And we've been hanging around in the garden a lot lately, so have they, and I have not heard them sneeze once. If you're allergic to pollen you sneeze, don't you? I will forever remember them as the neighbour who came to our house when I was 9 months pregnant and shouted about a tree that has been here for 40 years and upset me, he's the only person who has knowingly upset me like that.
  • Sil We told her my appointment was at 4pm and at 4:15 she was already on the phone to us (after already calling us a couple of times in the morning.) We had left our phones on as something important came up with work just as we left (sods law innit). I asked dh to switch them both off at least until we're all done, which took a couple more hours than planned.
The minute we switched the phones back on it started ringing, sil again. I wanted to discuss with dh what we were going to say to family as I don't really want to have to explain in great details what the mw did to my fanjo at this appointment so we had to agree on the official line "we're hoping the midwife helped things move along enough to avoid induction" and I don't want to mention the induction date or what ward I'll be on etc as everything is so uncertain right now. Anyway, beleive it or not she got the hump because we weren't picking up and when we finally did (only 5 minutes later) she actually hung up on us "why did you hang up on me, bladibla etc, you know what, nevermind. " Do I need her attitude right now? At least I used that to makes dh promise that he was not allowed to tell her when my contractions/labour/induction starts as she'd be in the car park calling us every 10 minutes asking if anything's happened yet and she would probably turn up in the labour ward as well if we dared switch our phones off. (what is the matter with her??). That's also after she's invited herself round here four times this week for dinner and like pulling teeth asking her to help out with anything whatsoever. I need some air.
  • I checked the measurements taken at the 38w private scan and the head circumference is 32.69 cm which I really don't think is big, is it? (I think they say 38 is considered big). The BC were going by abdomen circumference which is 35.43 cm and are apparently worried about shoulders size (though there is no way to know until the head is out! EEK.)
  • I spoke to two women from my NCT group who were induced and one had the pessary, drip, epidural, ventouse delivery AND episiotomy, the whole thing lasted three days and the other one was induced because her waters had broke early but then no signs of contractions within 24 hours, she had the gel, g&a, 5 hours later epidural and 14 hours later ended up with a c-section.
Strangely it's quite comforting to know that you can go through all this and still come out the other side ecstatic about your new baby and nothing else seems to matter anymore. We are all in agreement that "natural birth" is a NCT myth ;)

Bit of a funny "youtube" moment in the labour ward:

  • When we saw the doctor in the labour ward he sat down at the end of the bed next to me to chart the baby's weight and the whole bloody thing lost its balance and started lifting from the other end!! Luckily dh grabbed it very quickly and we avoided falling over and getting squashed.

Sorry for all the memememe today! It has made me feel better getting it out!
I'll stop ranting (for now ;)

Just looked through the list and realised we hadn't heard from Bunny for a while. Cecked her facebook and seems (from messages left) she's had a little girl called Richinda. Not sure when

Congrats Bunny hope yr little girl si doing well.

Still no word from Llynn - think she was being induced last Thursday iirc.

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 17:17

sorry about all the typos

silkcushion · 15/06/2009 17:21

ooooh must keep up my sleuthing. Checked Insy's facebook too and it looks like she's had a little girl as well. She wasn't wrong about thinking she was in proper labour this morning. Hope someone got the moses basket out of the loft
