Afternoon,

I can't find a due in Feb thread, but I suppose it's very early still!

Got my BFP on tuesday, with a due date of Feb 3. It's still not quite sunk in - I've had to take another three tests since then just to check

I'm spending far too much time already planning for this baby when I should be working, please tell me I'm not the only one who is completely obsessed. And that I will calm down eventually!

Anyway, would love to chat with some other newly upduffed types.

Evening all.

Apples - really sorry to hear your news.

Pops - as others have said Guiness is high in iron hence why some people drink it whilst pg. I can't see it doing ny arm as long as it's in moderation. I can't stand the stuff!

I got my next scan through for the 10th Aug when I think I'll be just over 11 weeks. I haven't heard from a mw yet. Is this normal or should I be chasing it? What info should I expect to get at the scan - I really have no idea so any info would be helpful!

devotion · 16/07/2009 23:17

motherof2boys - i am very ashamed to say i watched jeremy kyle today. every morning my lovely dh gets my two girls ready and takes the oldest to school because i can not actually talk or function until 9am.

so this morning i was just eating my breakfast in my old pj's, greasy hair, grumpy moaning ms face and decided to watch jeremy kyle show to cheer myself up

another secret, i have watched nearly every day for the last two weeks?

never have i had this much time to myself or indulged myself in such a selfless act with other pregnancies.

ANYWAY! Today they had a lady on who drinks 8 cans of cider a day and is 12 weeks pregnant. There was a lday in the audience who gave birth to a son with alcohol fetal syndrome. she drank a few bottles of wine a week until she was 5 months pregnant. her son has learning difficulties and cant hold friendships and basically needs support all the time. he was only about 4lbs when born. Reall sad!

They change advice all the time but i think as adults we know what is reasonable. I cant drink alcohol in the first 16 weeks due to ms anyway but after that i have one to two small glasses of wine a week and not every week. i always drink water with the wine too.

now the advice has changed it i may even do it less, i'll see how i feel.

re: the guiness, i'm irish and everyone said that to me too. they advised it to women low on iron but i'm not sure about how much iron you would actually get from a small glass. kind of the same as you would have to eat a few bags of spinach.

i cant see any harm in a small glass but would limit it to once or twice a week.

take care x

ps, i never get headaches and has the worst one of my life earlier, had to lie down and take parcetomal. start getting paranoid it was swine flu! but feel fine now so must have been dehydrated or just pregnancy!

devotion - your post just cheered me up! i do spend too much time with my greasy hair and ms face. decided the sickness just can't ruin my life so i'm going to go out today, to a mum and toddler group. whoever had the blood in the sick - me too, mention it to the doctor when you go.

what pills are people taking for the sickness?

dh doesn't want me taking any but there is no way i am going back into hospital, i need to keep things down. they are helping a bit, and i've having some acupuncture again, and i never take my bands off now... jeez, i hope this goes after a couple more weeks, don't think i can keep from crying if it carries on like last time - sorry there i go being miserable again. keep positive, keep positive...

had my scan on wednesday and the baby looked fine, i had to have an early one as i've had treatment for abnormal smears and may need a stitch in my cervix as it might be too thin. anyone else had this? it was threatened last time too but i got away with it... hoping to get away with it again this time!

the sonographer then said that on the left, where i had said i was tender, he couldn't find my ovary! i said i hadn't moved it anywhere, which made dh snigger, but it appears my ovary has vanished! wierd.

about the headaches - anyone get headaches and then feel like they are about to black out? i have to lie down then. the doctor thought it was to do with dehydration from the sickness. maybe.

ds is banging about downstairs getting ready for school and dd is banging blocks in her room getting ready for a day of playing - i am going to get a shower and sod the puking - i am going out today whatever. if you see a woman throwing up into a carrier bag today it will be me!
x

flyingcloud · 17/07/2009 08:27

Golly poor josla, sounds pretty grim. What pills are you taking? I've only had one vomiting episode (and constant nausea) so don't really feel like I need anything although at times with the nausea I could have taken anything offered to me! However that's nothing compared to what it reads like you've been going through.

Devotion - I'm Irish too, although a long time since I lived there. I agree about the Guinness, anything I've ever read suggests that the iron content is pretty low (you can get more iron in an egg or a bowl of weetabix than a pint of Guinness). I think this link might help. Although if you love the stuff I'm sure a little now and again won't hurt, but if you don't like it then don't force it down!!

My major problem now is chronic insomnia. I have hardly slept this week and I am tired beyond belief today. Last night I was awake for so long feeling hungry! I have tried cutting out any naps during the day, but yesterday for the first time this week I feel asleep sitting at my desk (at home luckily) sitting upright! So I took a little nap and as a result I don't think I slept much at all last night. I am incredibly restless and uncomfortable in bed and whenever I do fall asleep it's a very light sleep and never for very long. It was very hot and sticky last night so I hope now it's a bit cooler (after a massive storm during the night) I might actually sleep tonight. I thought this only happened right at the end of pregnancy... 11 weeks today so hopefully sleep will come back to me.

CaractacusPotty · 17/07/2009 09:41

I get insomnia every pregnancy flyingcloud, it sucks. It's been happening once or twice a week so far (and you weren't alone last night, I was up for hours too), but I know it's only going to get worse. There's always 3am threads on here from pg insomniacs looking for company! The lovely people in Oz/NZ often post.

Lol at Jeremy Kyle!

Off for a wedding this weekend. Driving for hours while feeling sick, no alcohol while dh gets blotto and talks to all his mates... Deep joy. Man, I'm a misery guts

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 17/07/2009 12:37

midnightsun · 17/07/2009 17:14

Hello All

Just introducing myself.

I have been lurking a bit as quite anxious about this pregnancy and didn't want to join then have to leave but taking the plunge now as I have reached 9 weeks. I think my due date is 18th Feb but won't know for ages as I live in a country where the one and only ultrasound scan on offer is at 17-19 weeks. I may well crack and book a private scan before then as had a bit of brown old-blood discharge for a week a couple of weeks ago, hence the anxiety.

If symptoms are enough to go on though there is definitely life in there, in fact I'd go so far as to say it's an alien with an inner remote control unit that has two buttons: "EAT NOW OR FEEL PUKEY AND PREFERABLY MAKE IT CARB JUNK" and "YOU ARE TOO TIRED TO BE UPRIGHT, GO AND LIE DOWN THEN PASS OUT FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 MINUTES."

I have a very good but fairly attention-needy three year old already and a fab DH who is at my beck and call. Also have the kindest neighbour in the 'hood who brings me a homecooked dinner round virtually every evening.

Can't really complain but I won't breathe out til I get to 12 weeks and fingers crossed get myself a dating and reassurance scan.

devotion · 17/07/2009 17:45

Hello ladies and welcome midnightsun - could you send your neighbour around here please?

Sarahmikeharryandrosie - sorry to hear that, you must have been in a state at first, scary stuff! But like you said he is in the best place.

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer last Aug and I fell apart. He has had a few operations last year and at one point the chemo almost brought on a heart attack, like your dad it was a warning sign.

When it comes to heart disease in this country then your father is in the best hands.

When my father was in hospital i was so happy to see the care he was receiving, the nurses were so caring.

Now they know there is a problem they will know the best treatment for him. My FIL had a mild heart attack a few years ago, he had a stent out in and put on medication, a free course of exercise training specifically for heart disease patients and encouraged him to lose weight.

A few years on he is slimmer and fitter than ever and in much better shape. If it never happened at that time he would not be as healthy as he is now.

Sending your father lots of healthy healing vibes

Wow long post! I'm not the best typer so if you meet me face to face i can talk even more

I walked 5 miles today then collected dd1 from school, came home to my home in a total mess as I rushed out this morning (no jeremy kyle today, decided there was more to life). so the beds were not made, dishes left about, clothes everywhere. just started to tidy then realiesed i was supposed to be holding a music class at my local nursery to had to get neighbour to look after the girls while i ran around with all my instruments on the pram (dont drive!).

not been home long, shattered and hungry so just wolfed down cheese and onion sandwich.

AND.............. relax?

I've still not fed my kids - bad mother... to the kitchen i go! ... quick pasta i think!

becks130 · 17/07/2009 19:39

Hi all,

sarah hope your dad's ok.

I had my scan today and I have been dated 9w2days which is a whole week more than the original date! so I am now due 17th Feb. I couldn't believe how much like a baby it looks, you can see the head, arms and legs! I have my scan booked 7th Aug.

I hope everyone is feeling ok and the ms is starting to ease x

devotion · 17/07/2009 20:04

becks130 - how lovely!

can not wait now for mine next tuesday x

chinook · 17/07/2009 20:12

Becks - that is wonderful news about your scan. How lovely to be a whole week further on too.

Sarah - hope your dad is doing well. My dad had a very similar thing a few years ago and ended up having valve replacement surgery. It was a scary time but at least now he is fine and is checked over regularly.

Midnightsun - welcome. Your symptoms do sound very promising indeed. I had 2 mmc before this preg and though I did have similar symptoms, with hindsight now I can see they were much milder. I certainly never had this delightful 'been hit by a slegehammer' feeling!

Another one suffering from insomnia too. I was wide awake between 1 and 4 am and my brain would just not stop. Perhaps I should skyplus Jeremy Kyle and watch it in the small hours...

Have a good weekend everyone x

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 17/07/2009 21:19

thanks everyone, dad is home thankfully not a heart attack but def cardiac related, he has to go back for further tests and will get lots of help to change life style (he is a lorry driver so many bad habits to break!!!!)

glad to hear about all these scans cant wait for my appt to come thru!!!!

flyingcloud · 17/07/2009 21:55

Sarah, glad to hear your Dad is home and hopefully he will be alright in the long run.

I'm psyching myself up for sleep... got up early, had a long walk (oh and a nap, damn, damn, damn, damn) and I'm not feeling tired yet, although 10;45pm is way past my normal bedtime. But DH is away (at the wedding of close friends which I am, sob, missing as I have to work tomorrow) so it means I can read in bed for as long as I want (he gets up at 5 every morning and snarls at me if I try and read in bed past his bedtime).

11 weeks today!! Got a really busy few days at work (and exciting days at work), followed by a visit from my mum, followed by my scan on 27th so hopefully the next 10 days will fly!

Is anyone else in maternity clothes yet. I have bought some trousers and a pair of jeans, they're a bit too big, but nothing else fits. If I wear anything tight fitting I look visibly pregnant. Feeling quite excited, don't feel quite so fat and unattractive anymore, just pregnant! I have also lost a couple of pounds as the last couple of weeks of morning sickness have been milder but somehow more appetite repelling (at it's worst I was eating NON STOP).

'Night everyone.

devotion · 18/07/2009 22:42

sarahmikeharryandrosie, glad to hear your dad is home

eurrrgghhhhhhhhh!

mouth full of saliva...

right now i can not even talk i feel so sicky and i know its worse when i am on here so just thought i'd come on for a quick moan and to say to you all

flyingcloud - i've been wearing maternity "style" clothes for a couple of weeks. I'[ve only put on a few pound but my belly is rounded and everything is uncomfortable so i have been wearing leggings with long tops or dresses and i cant close my skinny jeans now but maternity jeans are too bug still.

goos trick is to get a hairband and loop inside one side of your jeans and then over the button. Give you a couple of extra inches and keeps your jeans up. so i can keep my skinny ones on for a bit.

need to go buy some skinny maternity jeans from topshop but they cost £40, wonder if Hennes do some?

chinook - hope you got some sleep last night, please stay away from jeremy kyle, dont let me be a bad influence

i'll be 12 weeks on Tuesday, got a horrible feeling this ms is not going to stop just yet!

hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

nighty night!

becks130 · 19/07/2009 08:34

Morning all,

I have had a terrible couple of days with morning sickness, headache and tiredness like you wouldn't believe (well you probably know what I mean!) I'm having really bad nights at the moment as well, last night I got up 6 times to go to the toilet and I am having really bad nightmares, is anyone else having this??

I hope everyone starts to feel better soon!

Pops78 · 19/07/2009 09:27

Don't know that they are nightmares but I am having incredibly vivid dreams, think it's becaseu like you becks I am up so many times in night that dn't sleep deep. Am now really fed up with this MS, it's just torture permanenetly feeling like this and I think people around me must think I am a moany cow that is exagerating... MS pls end soon...

devotion · 19/07/2009 10:08

Hear hear! I am with you both

At first I was having really sick sexual dreams that I was too embarassed to tell dh about then they turned to really nasty ones.

Last night I had a dream that I had my scan but they didnt let me see the screen and after would give me no pics. I was really crying and they kept saying, "calm down theres nothing wrong you will see the baby when its born!".

i was screaming, "i want to see my baby now, i've waited for ages!!!"

Silly

Pops78 - everytime i moan which is about every 15 mins, dh sighs, "how long does this last again?"... he is being very patient with me.

I'm so fed up with it, I've already broken down once and cried my head off when it all got too much.

Not long hopefully, hang in there

x

Pops78 · 19/07/2009 13:27

Oooh glad you admitted to that, now I can. Every night I dream about having sex, not once with my man! Too embarassed to tell him and quite disturbed by these dreams (I don't want to have sex with someone else, in fact I don't want to have sex full stop right now). But then I have also dreamed a spacecraft landed in our garden and aliens got out and my cats tail came straight off in my hand when I stroked him LOL... so I guess sexual or not my dreams are just totally mad at mo...

devotion · 19/07/2009 18:10

i've even woke up orgasming, that was great and slightly embarassing. luckily my dh was in the bathroom.

i wondered if i had made any noise or it was just all in my dream.

do not mind having those ones!

watercress · 19/07/2009 19:45

Hey all,

Sarah, glad your dad is OK. Must be a massive relief.

Whoever asked about maternity clothes - I'm in mat jeans and have been for a couple of weeks. Last time I lasted until 16 weeks in my size 10s!

And someone mentioned about having an early scan because of their age. - is this normal NHS policy? I'm the same age but haven't had my midwife appointment or scan date through yet. And I'm ten weeks pg. Think I'd better do some chasing...

Oh, and I have developed one rather embarrassing symptom (also sleeping very badly and weeing a lot, but they seem normal on this thread). Slightly leaky boobs. Aargh. Please tell me I'm not alone!

tryingtobemarypoppins · 19/07/2009 19:53

Hello ladies.
Those of you with extreem morning sickness, I can recommend Cyclizine which the hospital gave me last week. I was sick 17 times in one day last week. Got way too much with a toddler and I was stuck in bed so weak. The tablets do make me sleepy though. I have only been sick twice today!

chinook · 19/07/2009 21:01

First day in maternity jeans for me today. Of course I have spent all day hoiking them up. They are from Next and I am not impressed, where did you all get yours?

Saw my sister in law today, she is having her 3rd baby just before xmas. She said she is only taking 2 weeks off work when her baby is born. She is self employed so I know she won't get any maternity pay, but 2 weeks?? Her youngest is 12 so she has a huge age gap. Do you think she has forgotten what a new baby is like? I am worried about her and think she is putting herself under a lot of pressure unnecessarily.

There has been loads in the press today about pregnant women and swine flu. One minute I think it is quite worrying then the next I think it's a load of scaremongering. Only time will tell I guess.

Wishing us all an uninterrupted nights sleep

Pops78 · 20/07/2009 09:24

Went to itunes bat for lashes gig last night and was quite impressed with myself standing for 3hrs in a packed audience who were all knocking back booze while I sipped my water. Afterwards it was all too much though and on the way home I was retching all the way and threw up in the middle of the street...so embarrassing, people prob just thought I was drunk... Came home and was up for ages feeling rough.

Devotion - orgasming, lucky you, I wouldn't mind those dreams either.

watercress · 20/07/2009 10:20

I've got swine flu. Grr. Feels like a heavy cold rather than when I've had flu before, and I'd rather get it now than later on in my pregnancy.

Hope I haven't passed it on to anyone on this thread!
