Due Feb 2010

Afternoon,

I can't find a due in Feb thread, but I suppose it's very early still!

Got my BFP on tuesday, with a due date of Feb 3. It's still not quite sunk in - I've had to take another three tests since then just to check

I'm spending far too much time already planning for this baby when I should be working, please tell me I'm not the only one who is completely obsessed. And that I will calm down eventually!

Anyway, would love to chat with some other newly upduffed types.

Motherof2boys- I had an abdominal scan at 7 weeks with DS and could see a heartbeat. You'll be fine at 8 weeks.

Doctorskidaddle- your doctor sounds lovely! I don't have the added stress of telling DS because he's a baby although he does keep jumping on my tummy as he comes into our bed 6-6.30 in the morning so that I can have an extra half hour in bed even though it's play time.

Becks poor you with your stretch mark. I got bad stretch marks with DS and I'll be on the beach in a bikini in a months time with a belly like a chewed up toffee. People don't really care I don't think, and if they do, sod them!

My conception indicator has gone up from 1-2 weeks to 2-3 weeks so I'm feeling really positive and happy today. Hoping mini bean is growing well.

Dp keeps saying 'DS and you and the baby' so it feels really real now. He's so excited bless him.

Hope everyone is doing well!!

preggybear · 24/06/2009 19:48

Every one is talking about getting bigger and bumps. How many are on their first pregnancy and already noticing things like tight trousers and a firmer stomach? People that I talk to say that with the 1st one I shouldn't notice anything yet. Is it in my head? Also I am a big girl so what effect does that have?

flyingcloud · 24/06/2009 20:19

preggybear - I'm on my first! I definitely feeling it, but bloating is worse than ever which only compounds it. I just want to get past the feeling fatter stage to the obviously pregnant stage (oh but I'll take feeling fatter than normal over constant nausea, but unfortunately I don't get the choice!)

scoobyd00 · 24/06/2009 20:49

Do you mind if I jump in and join you? I had my first ever BFP last Monday after 2 years of fertility treatment, although I ended up concieving naturally. I'm now just over 5 weeks and had an internal scan yesterday which showed everything was normal and in the right place. I have another scan booked in 2 weeks time to check everythig is progressing and hopefully see a heartbeat.

I'm a little nervous as my risk of mc is slightly higher as I have PCOS, but so far so good. I scared myself slightly last week going for a gentle jog as I had huge cramps and stomach ache. I've now put that down to the constipation that I seem to be suffering from!!

What do others do about exercise? Currently I'm vigourously walking the dog twice a day, trying to build up a bit of a sweat!

Preggybear - this is my 1st but no signs of weight gain yet, but then I am very early. My stomach has a slight bulge to it but I think it's beacuse I'm so bloated!

sorry for the long waffling post.

Scooby

becks130 · 24/06/2009 21:48

Scoobyd00 Congratulations and welcome I too have PCOS and it is a real pain in the a**e!! I too had difficulties in conceiving and ended up conceiving naturally as well, I also have a 3 year old son. The next 6 weeks will be long but were here to support each other through it.

motherof2boys · 24/06/2009 21:52

swimming is great exercise as it's not weightbearing. Someone told me to go easy on the breaststroke but I don't know whether there was any foundation to that.

Geekylass · 25/06/2009 00:36

Cheers gidders, underwraps and caractacus, thanks for the advice. Was pretty mundane, he just asked when my last period was, told me to avoid caffeine (WTF???) and told me to ring the surgery to let them know which hospital I wanted to give birth in so they could sort out a midwife - apparently I can go along for a tour to help me make up my mind. I only have to go to hospital for the 12-15 week scan, everything else can be done at the surgery. So all good so far, now just endless worrying about miscarrying for the next 6 weeks

mowmi · 25/06/2009 07:08

I've been lurking on your thread - I live on the Jan thread! Scooby and Becks - I have pcos too and I'm worrying myself sick that something is going to go wrong - do you take Metformin? If so are you still taking it? when will you stop? My fertility consultant has said to take it up to 12 weeks but I'm terrified of stopping! I've got another scan tomorrow (I'm between 10 and 9+3) bit sick of the fear.
Hello to all the other ladies x

preggybear · 25/06/2009 07:10

Scoobyd00 & beck130

I have PCOS too! I had been trying for a baby since Nove 2007. Been to St Barts and had tests done and was waiting for my follow up appt to talk about further treatment as I was on Metformin for a year and a half, when I fell naturally too These first few weeks are hell, but even harder having PCOS hanging over you!

I'm staying away from exercise until I'm "safe". Then I'll start swimming and some light stuff on the Wii!!!

CaractacusPotty · 25/06/2009 07:11

scoobyDOO - welcome and congratulations! I'm trying to stay fit - I've put a lot of effort into losing weight this last year and I don't want to lose all my fitness. So I'm still doing the (admittedly insane) 20-miles-in-8-hours-hillwalk a week on saturday, and I've gone for a couple of runs with no ill effects. I think I'll try to keep running as long as I can, then stick to walks after that. Motherof2's right about swimming though, non-weightbearing and all that, though I've never heard of avoiding breaststroke! I like swimming when I'm near the end though, it's the only time you get to feel weightless at 9 months pregnant

preggybear · 25/06/2009 07:14

Mowmi - I was told to stop taking Metformin and it also says not to take it during pregnancy on the information sheet in the packet.

mowmi · 25/06/2009 07:32

Hi Preggybear - there are lots of different opinions on Metformin out there...lot's of experts think it can help prevent mc whilst others think it doesn't make much difference. My IVF consultant has said to keep going until 12 weeks so that's what I'll do. Good luck to you x

preggybear · 25/06/2009 07:45

Hmmm, food for thought Mowmi. Got my MW appt next week so I'll ask her. It is silly that different medical people say different things!

becks130 · 25/06/2009 08:06

preggybear & Mowmi I'm not on metformin, I struggle to get any help at all It took for me to miscarry for them to even consider treatment and then I fell pregnant again almost straight away!! I tried for about 18 months for #2 but I already have a 3 year old son who was unexpected!! I have had a lot on conflicting advice along this rocky road, so I just take one at a time. I have a dating/ reassurance scan tomorrow morning so fingers crossed x

Pops78 · 25/06/2009 09:36

Hi All,

Congrats to all the newbies. Haven't been on here for a while as I have to admit I got a bit freaked out by all the miscarriage talk, no offense to anybody just being really sensitive at mo, my hormones are wild. Up and down. My paranoia is just immense and I feel so silly. Finally just had to go to St Georges for the walk in clinic and early scan.

Motherof2boys - the early scan was so easy just slipped in, really not very large or uncomfortable. I just went in on self referral and within 20mins I was looking at our baby on the screen and a little heartbeat. Such a relief and would highly recommend if you are getting as worked up as me. They were fine with me just saying I was anxious as well.

Prob is now I just want to tell everyone and have already told 2 new people. Must stop myself because I know it early day, am exactly 6+6 apparently. Just seem to have nausea, but like others bizarelly almost want reassurance of throwing up. My fiance think I'm mad :-)

scoobyd00 · 25/06/2009 09:37

Preggybear - I took metformin for a year and have been through 6 months of clomid. I was waiting for IUI when I fell pg naturally. I've stopped taking metformin on the advice of my consultant. Metformin is not licensed for PCOS hence why all the confusion about when to take it. Currently it's only licensed for diabetes. There's no evidence to show it harms the baby but there's also not much evidence to show it reduces mc. You can see why there's so much confusion!

Caractacuspotty - I've ordered a book on pregnancy and exercise to try and give me some fresh ideas on fitness without causing any harm. I went for a gentle walk/jog yesterday with no problems. Swimming's not ideal for me as I'd have to go before work and that's when I walk the dog.

Beccyo · 25/06/2009 09:40

Hi all,
Just found out number 2 is on the way - due Feb 5th!!!
When DD1 arrived I had so much happening (my mother passed away, had to go overseas, etc) that I ended up having her in NZ (home). So, now I am looking at having number 2 here and a bit worried about all the reports I hear about the NHS. Wondering if I should go private - any suggestions?
My first was a CS, so thinking this will be the safest option for number 2.

devotion · 25/06/2009 10:51

Welcome to Beccyo, Scoobyd00 and any others i have missed.

I love hearing stories like yours Scoobyd00. I know a few people who spent years and money with fertility treatment and then fell naturally - amazing!

Just wanted to answer yoru question on exercise. If you have already reg been exercising before you fell pregnant then you can continue but you should not get out of breath or build up a sweat.

So gentle jogging is fine no longer than 40 minutes.

There are lots of threads on exercising during pregnancy.

I ran the marathon this year and conceived two weeks later, sicknes from 5 weeks and I have ran once since the marathon - so depressing because i LOVE running but I have to listen to my body and the thought if jogging makes my stomach turn... in fact everything makes me feel sick. as soon as this sickness is over i will get back out there but that maybe a couple of months so I will have to start with 10 min gentle runs.

Good idea to keep fit and it all helps you cope with labour. Most first time labours are around 12 hours so you can see where your fitness can help.

Just want to add in case I have scared you that my first labour was 12 hours and my second was 11 hours and here I am again with a planned baby so it cant be that bad can it?

i highly recommend antenatal yoga classes, they are more realxing than anything but do prepare all your muslces and pelvis plus the breathing techniques honestly do help. If you breath right it reduces the pain. I really learnt that with my second labour.

Also if you would like to try an active birth then see if you have teachers in your local area. I went on one of these and really enjoyed it and used most of it.

I should stop myself now... bit early for that!

enjoy your pregnancy!

laurawantsababy · 25/06/2009 11:09

Hi all, I am trying to book my booking appointment with the mw. Is it still 10 weeks they do it? Will the see me at 9 weeks?

Gidders · 25/06/2009 11:26

Preggybear - I'm on my first and I can see a bump. I'm not sure anyone else would notice though. I an only 5ft 2, and I've heard shorter people show earlier because there is less room vertically, if you see what I mean.

Congratulations Beccy0 and Scooby!

As far as exercise goes, I've done nothing for weeks, unless you count running to the toilet! I cannot wait for the sickness to pass. I'm planning to do gentle running ( I ran a lot before) and swimming. I think the problem with breaststroke is it can worsen SPD, because you open your legs. But I don't know if that only applies to people already suffering it or not. I hope not - I am terrible at front crawl, I end up swallowing half the pool!

devotion · 25/06/2009 11:29

laurawantsababy - i think it has to be 10 weeks and you automatically receive a letter with a date.

if there is a reason you cant do 10 weeks then maybe they will do it the week after or before.

twoplusone · 25/06/2009 11:35

Hi Laura.. my mw is seeing me at 9 weeks hun..
