Due Feb 2010

Afternoon,

I can't find a due in Feb thread, but I suppose it's very early still!

Got my BFP on tuesday, with a due date of Feb 3. It's still not quite sunk in - I've had to take another three tests since then just to check

I'm spending far too much time already planning for this baby when I should be working, please tell me I'm not the only one who is completely obsessed. And that I will calm down eventually!

Anyway, would love to chat with some other newly upduffed types.

this much!

CaractacusPotty · 23/06/2009 19:53

I'm meeeeelttttiinnnnggggg.....!

Which bit of Scotland are you in, geekylass? I live just on the dark side but get all my care in Scotland. Here, they've just introduced MW as first point of contact (old hat in England, I believe) so you don't have to go to your GP at all, just tell the mw you're pregnant (just as well, 3rd time round, I really don't think my GPs going to be able to fill 10 minutes with "what, ^again>?!!" ) TBH, though, I have no memory whatsoever of what my mw did at the first appt. I think we just blethered randomly mostly! Your scans also depend on where you are. Where I am you get a dating scan at 12-14ish weeks and that's it. You have no "right" to an anomaly scan, but you can opt to have a "training" scan - they're teaching the sonographers how to do anomaly scans and if you're pg you can volunteer to have one, so long as you understand that it's being done by a (supervised) trainee. But having said that, everyone sees the obstetrician (because she comes to the GPs twice a month anyway) twice in their pregnancy and she always has a portable scanner, so we probably do quite well for scans!!

geekfreak (lots of geeks on here!!) hello and welcome, don't be shy or scared!!

preggybear · 23/06/2009 19:55

Moan away

CaractacusPotty · 23/06/2009 19:56

I took too long to type - more posts!

Sympathies with the feeling rubbish - it's crap, isn't it? You don't tell people you're pg so struggle through some of the worst bits without even getting any sympathy! I've turned into a right tetchy cow at work

motherof2boys · 23/06/2009 19:57

I think it's quite normal to have overwhelming sadness in pregnancy - partic 1st one.

wish you well and don't worry too much about your weight gain.

preggybear · 23/06/2009 20:07

As much as I hate the triedness and the crying, I love that I am getting them! I didn't know that the first 12 weeks felt like this. No one would want to talk to me about it before being pregnant because of thinking I couldn't have children!

DH was reading a pregnancy book we got and I could tick off every symptom!! lol

becks130 · 23/06/2009 20:12

Hi All and welcome all newbiew!!

How is everyone today??

preggybear I am with you with the weight thing, I lost 3 stone last year and I put on a stone with last pregnancy that I mc. I am being a lot more careful this time and I have gone off everything sweet which is good

I am feeling fairly normal today (apart from sore boobs) which I suppose is good but I'd rather feel a little ill, it seems to put my mind at ease a little!!

I have my scan on Friday and I am soooo nervous, I keep thinking the worse

preggybear · 23/06/2009 20:14

Finger crossed and positive thinking becks.

geekfreak · 23/06/2009 20:29

Chin up all sufferers of pregnancy symptoms.

I'm struggling with the sickness and tiredness, and am already out of my normal jeans. Aargh. Last time I was in some normal clothes up to 28 weeks!

As for the rest, I'm my own worst enemy. If I have them, I feel rotten. If not, I fret that it's all going wrong.

Why do we do this?!

becks130 · 23/06/2009 20:45

I think I spoke too soon, I am starting to feel quite sick!!

preggybear · 23/06/2009 20:58

I did that last week. While getting ready for work said to DH I was feeling great, endded up leaving work after only half a days work because I felt so bad!!!! lol

twoplusone · 23/06/2009 22:14

hi all, welcome to the newbies.xx

I am feeling abit more positive.. decided that worrying isnt going to acheive anything other than make time drag on .. so going to focus on things that I have planned week by week to get through the next 6 weeks.. Hvae a holiday booked for August so really looking forward to that.

Hope everyone is okxx

flyingcloud · 24/06/2009 07:02

Devotion - thank you for your post - you make me feel so much better.

My house is just awful too, I have a pile of washing about five feet high, I have piles of papers all over the place that need sorting. My bathroom looks like it is shared by five students and my kitchen floor is in dire need of a wash, but I can't face any of it.

DH is being good too but it's so hard to understand. I had a teary moment the other day when I just felt overwhelmed with feeling sick and he couldn't understand it, hard as he tried.

I really hope this first trimester can just hurry up. It's a bit of a lonely hell at times. Preggybear - we know how you feel.

xx

motherof2boys · 24/06/2009 08:44

Saw my Gp yesterday and she has recommended that I do early scan in light of my mc end of March (first time I have called it a mc as I do think of him as my DS3). Of course Gp thought I could ring for appt but was told by snorty woman at hospital that just turn up and wait (about 3 hours). After mc have only had the nicest treatment (within reason) from hosp so rude awakening on how everything is a stress and a struggle.

My friend had a lot of early scans (internally???!!). My GP seemed to think that this was nothing much to worry about and as I might be about 8 weeks it would probably be ok abdominally anyway. Any experiences out there please? I will probably be able to go tomorrow morning straight after school drop off (and hopefully get back to school in time for pick up...).

Am trying seasickness bands and they don't seem to be making things worse - if anything a little better. Still have not eaten a crisp but am fancying one (ton) now. My Gp always says go easy on yourself and have what you need but she doesn't know how literally I can take that and how I just heap it in and on. And then at my hospital anyway they use your weight as part of the downs screening programme and then I feel really terrible - although the downs tests have never actually brought out a problem yet. (But they don't take into account your height etc so what is pretty cool for me (I'm a big girl) would be death for my Sister in law (for example)who is about 4'11".)

still full of fluey cold but can now separate symptoms of that and pg so must be on the mend.

many blessings for this sunny day

UnderWrapsForNow · 24/06/2009 09:23

motherof2boys, IIRC that the weight doesn't increase the risk of Downs, but they need to know how much you weigh so they know roughly how much blood you have (or something). LOL very unscientific explanation!!

Still not a lot by way of symptoms here, but it is sooo early!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 24/06/2009 09:57

Hello again & hi to the new joiners! Sorry for all you sicky people, sending you lots of sympathy....

I am lucky not to be getting any proper sickness, but do have moments of feeling really bad if I don't eat often enough, so am trying to keep munching.... Also getting occasional dizziness and uncomfortable insides.

I'm starting to get noticeably bigger round the middle too (not just because of all the eating either!), is anyone else starting to think it will be hard to keep this quiet for several more weeks?

flyingcloud · 24/06/2009 10:13

MyNameIsInigoMontoya - I have already imagined the reactions I will get

"Ooooohhhh you're pregnant, we thought you'd just let yourself go since your wedding."

I am looking very thick round the waist and after a big meal or when I'm bloated I have a definite hard bump from my rib cage downwards. My jeans are soooo tight!

On that vein, although I should post it elsewhere, can anyone recommend good cheap maternity clothes that can be bought online?

becks130 · 24/06/2009 10:20

Morning all,

My symptoms have returned with full force today, I woke up at 6.30 feeling VERY sick and had to get up and make some toast.

flyingcloud ASOS do some nice maternity clothes and I think they are quite reasonalbe also New look do some VERY cheap maternity clothes.

becks130 · 24/06/2009 10:50

This may sound very weird but I woke up this morning and the skin on my belly was hurting I didn't think much of it but I just had a look and I have a HUGE stretch mark above my belly button which is really painful! I got LOADS of stretch marks with DS but this is a new one I'm sure and It is REALLY painful! I am really annoyed because I didn't think I was expanding very much yet and as I have no idea how far gone I am I'm very worried that if it is still early days I am going to the size of house in 8 months!!

Ok rant over I hope everyone enjoys the lovely sunshine

geekfreak · 24/06/2009 11:14

Phew, I'm glad it's not just me struggling with clothes already!

Flyingcloud, Peacocks is cheap, as is H&M. But at this early stage, I may go to a supermarket to get some cheap trousers in a slightly bigger size to normal, as I'll undoubtedly need them afterwards as well...

My sickness has abated to just not feeling very hungry. Trying not to worry about it by looking at my expanding waistline!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 24/06/2009 12:01

Topshop have some cool maternity stuff, especially their jeans and sometimes nice bras too!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 24/06/2009 12:04

...and I meant to say, it is available online

motherof2boys · 24/06/2009 13:30

E-Bay is fantastic for good quality and well priced maternity clothes if you are happy with second hand and if you are prepared to spend a bit of time sorting through it all.

Doctorskidaddle · 24/06/2009 14:47

flying cloud - i also think I may be getting a bit of a bump but how is that possible at not even 6 weeks???? I know you show earlier with each pregnancy but I thought the uterus was below the pelvic bone until 12 weeks so how could there be a bump before then? I seriously don't know how I am going to keep this a secret until 12 weeks!

I really like H&M for maternity clothes. Jojomamanbebe and Blooking Marvellous also nice but not cheap (but can be good value if they're having a sale)

motherof2 - I know lots of people who have had internal scans and they have been fine - but I think (IIRC) that they start doing external ones around 8 weeks so hopefully you will be OK

saw the GP today to tell him I'm pg. He was so lovely. I expected him to just say OK I'll inform the mw but he was all full of, and how are you feeling? Have you thought about where you'd like to have it? Have you told your other children? etc etc. Feel really excited about it all now

Think I am getting my first waves of sickness as well...

Agree that it is hard for DHs/DPs to understand. Although my DH is brilliant and does loads with the DC, I think he still forgets that I am knackered and fragile and doesn't make any allowances. But he is always fantastic when they're actually born so I try not to let it bother me. It must be hard for them to remember there's a baby growing in there, whereas for us we're constantly aware of it

Becks and at stretch marks already - you poor thing. FWIW I don't think stretch marks necessarily reflect how big you are - isn't it more to do with your skin type?

motherof2boys · 24/06/2009 15:02

thanks drskids that is reassuring - I will take the chance to go along I think!

In terms of keeping it a secret and getting big, IME people who care and might notice won't say till you tell them and most people don't notice. I was 8 months with DS1 and some of my colleagues hadn't even noticed! And I thought I was an elephant.

You will feel bigger than you look and it sounds like we have quite a lot of weight fighters on this team so there is inevitable sensitivity. Most of that is personal though I'm sure.

It's not the season for loose jumpers sadly...
