Oh lol I'm such bad mother - DD just come in from a B and Q trip and I'm repainting toes - navy blue (well toe nails obv...) - and DD proceeded to take tights off and give me her feet so she too now has tiny weeny navy blue nails

How inappropriate is that for an 18 month old [shock} However she is v pleased with them!!

Blottedcopybook · 09/05/2009 12:06

YOU LOT SUCK

Just got a text from DiveDaisy, she and Sofiah are getting home as all her test results were negative. Hooray!

rosielady · 09/05/2009 12:11

Oh I also bought steriliser, bottles and formula - and felt pretty awful about it as I plan to BF like last time. However, although I loved feeding DS once I got the hang of it, the downside was that DS wouldn't take a bottle AT ALL. So he was exclusively BF. However, it became really stressful, particularly when I had to go back to work at 6 months, and DS wouldn't take a bottle at nursery. I ended up BF before work in the morning and in the evening until he was 1 year old, but swore that next time, DH would do a bottle feed at least once a day from early days. Thus the reason why I bought all this stuff - but it feels weird. Any tips on combining both?

Reggiee · 09/05/2009 12:12

OMG another one . But who....?? I can't see either. Ohhh, the anticipation.

LadyHelen you are my hero. Seriously. I came on here to moan and offload my guilt about cracking open the formula yesterday, and I've just read what you are going through / have been through. You are an absolute star! I have been punping but only getting drops despite having milk in. Have officially given up bf and have just about stopped crying about it. The nipple pain was just too much for me. Nipple shields too big to fit in his mouth, pumping useless. I had a terrible time with dd as I don't think my milk came in for her and it took 5 weeks for her to regain birth weight. I fed her to 6 weeks and it was the most horrendous 6 weeks of my life so vowed not to put myself through it again. But I still feel so terrible about it. They can't snip his tongue tie until Wednesday and I can't cope with it until then. .

All other mums seem to cope with the pain and I feel so inadequate. Sigh. I'll get over it I'm sure.

Frazzled both lovely names, hard to say. I probably have a slight preference for Hector (unless you're doing a tally then I'll agree with you ).

I didn't feel the crowning as I had a local due to ventouse. Felt quite a lot of pressure thgouh.

My lower back (coccx or whatever it's called) is really sore. Don't know if I've been sat so cautiously over the past couple of weeks that it's caused it? On the plus point, my piles are much improving and can't feel any pain from the cut and tear . Left boob hurts though as the milk comes in/reduces. Tried expressing from it but still only got drops.

Given DH a passout this weekend so he's in London at Wembley watching a football match. His parents are here being stars and have taken both kids out for a couple of hours. Should be having a nap really, but haven't been here for ages. Great thread title by the way Momino - made me chuckle .

Hope the full moon brings lots of babes!

chocolatebunnies · 09/05/2009 12:35

Hello Everyone,

I dont know who it is who's popped either, v. exciting though!

Have been to mothercare this morning to cheer myself up and have bought a couple of outfits for baby, some Lanisoh and a Babasling, which Madi is currently wearing with Baby Anabel in!

I need some shopping advice from you ladies who love to shop, I need a change bag! Yes I have only just realised, at 38+1, that I don't have a change bag! It needs to be big enough to carry enough stuff for Baby & Madi, Madi is still in nappies, my pram is blacky/grey with white swirls. So . . . .

Oo oo oo ooooooo I have packed my hospital bag!!!!

llareggub · 09/05/2009 12:48

rosielady DS1 was mix fed from birth. He lost lots of weight too, had jaundice etc and had formula top ups. No real tips, except that I was v stubborn and really didn't want to stop breastfeeding. He only ever had formula as a top up in the evening, never during the day and only after a breastfeed. I pumped lots as well, particularly during the night as DH would then give EBM to give me a rest. Still, DS would only take the bottle from me of DH, which caused problems when I went back to work. He is still breastfeeding, so it didn't lead to the end of my milk supply, but I think I was fairly lucky in that respect.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 09/05/2009 12:50

I know who it i-is! I know who it i-is! And massive congrats to the lady in question.

Still a mardy old mare here - still ill, have hackingly agonising cough on top of throat and sinus agony now and DH is being a twat. He's at work AGAIN, apparently he's ill too (but he slept and snored loudly all night, I got 3 hours sleep and I will be doing the equivalent of running a marathon in the next few weeks, he won't).

Bah!

Blotted that's crap, I'm so sorry, I was hoping things would kick off for you, but I had to smile at your DH being 'anxious'. Bless him.....

Oooh, girls just rampaging - will be back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

euromum · 09/05/2009 12:52

Oh goodness who is it????!!! I have been meaning to ask how to join the FB group as I gather it's invite only? Who do I need to be friends with first??

Can't stick around as have a mammoth amount of cooking to do while dd asleep - it's dh's birthday tomorrow and despite repeated attempts to get the extended family out for a meal, they all think it would be better if I made them all a slap up meal here instead. Just what I need at 37 weeks !

By the time I am back later I want NEWS!

Re bf those strugling with it please don't beat yourselves up. Sorry not to name check (am rushing...) but it sounds like for various reasons it's really tough and I firmly believe that life is hard enough without extreme maternal guilt about bf or anything else. Just do whatever you need to.

Jennster · 09/05/2009 13:24

Good afternoon. Not been of Facebook yet, but I'm not friends with everybody so probably won't find out either. Went to bed with a few mild contractions, which continued through the night and morning. Had a bloody show, but everything now stopped. Going to go for a nap, having exhausted myself and the dc in the park this morning.

Ds was completely bf until january when he was 17 months old. When it was time for me to go back to work, I just gave nursery milk I'd expressed and asked them to put it in a non-valved cup with a lid. He was 9 months old and so I never had the stress of trying the bottle that dd just would not take. Just imagine not having to sterilise anything.......Cups are the future!

Belgianchocolates · 09/05/2009 13:26

Afternoon everyone,

DH has been blocking the computer all morning and I can see there are 3 pages for me to catch up with. So haven't been able to read everything as well as that the MN pages keep freezing.

I have been on F/B earlier and clearly it's not someone who's amongst my friends who's had her baby. OOOH, I wonder who it is! Is it whoever had that hot curry last night too?

My wind type pain has more or less gone now. Gosh that was horrible yesterday. In a way I'm happy that I've proven my mum wrong, I knew it wasn't the start of labour, but she wouldn't have it yesterday. The full moon thing is a myth too you know, just like the heartburn.

frazzled I think the policy in my trust is to offer it at 41 weeks and it seems like my mw doesn't want to go against policy. I'm not sure why some trusts are happy to have a go at it from 40 and others don't. As far as I'm aware you could have it every 2 days and it's not really harmul, so why not offer it earlier, especially if a woman's asking for one.

All of you with bf trouble, hope you're getting the help you need or find a compromise that makes you feel happy. At the end of the day, baby needs a happy mummy, no matter how you go about feeding.

Blotted Sorry things haven't happened for you yet. Maybe you can catch up on sleep now.

Momino · 09/05/2009 13:27

dandy, have accepted friend invite on fb . ineed to go through to add people as friends as i'm missing a few of you and would loveto see baby photos etc

Which one of you lovely ladies has the Ju Ju Be Prepared/All bags?????

pulapula · 09/05/2009 14:32

Hi chocbunnies that would be me - that's where a lot of my HiP grant went but i'm very happy with them. Detsy has a "be prepared" bag too.

Febes · 09/05/2009 14:34

I'm baaaaccckkk!

Not only did I go to Ikea but we trotted around in a very fast fashion as DH has had to pop to work this afternoon. ANNNDDD I have just put together a stool thingy that I bought to sit on when DCs are in the bath for my new bathroom. Twas kit set and I did it all by myself . I'm so proud. We got a good bargin for photo frames 18 x 24cm for only 89p!! We bought 10 and will have to stain the frames to make them more posh but I think they will look grand in our hall stair area. Now I have to find some nice piccys for them.

The plasterer has finished in the bathroom so now DH can crack on. I might even have a bash at a bit of painting myself if this darn baby doesn't make an appearance. We got a cool bright orange bath mat and handtowel and some orange candles so I think it will look very smart with the granite floor tiles, beige wall tiles and paint and wooden cabinets. Too bad the bath is still yellow!! We are going to get it re-enamaled white one day as its the nicest old 70s cast iron bath. Really long and deep but not so attractive in yellow!! At least we have a new loo and basin and got rid of the yellow ones of them. When we moved in we had yellow suite, black tiles and shag pile carpet- nice!!! Its 300 pounds for the re-enamalling so it might have to wait for a while...

Oh god my nesting is almost uncontrollable this time. Sorry to bore you all with tales of my sodding bathroom.

I wonder how bekka went with the CS yesterday. I'm perversely pleased that detsy and Flippin are still waiting too. I think there are about 6 of us over our dates now. Come on full moon babies!!!
Belgian I do not appreciate you blowing the full moon myth!! We need hope.

FiKelly · 09/05/2009 14:36

I've sent a message on fb to ... :-) letting her know that those of you that can't see her announcement are desperate to know the news.. hopefully you'll not have much longer to wait..

Febes I enjoyed reading about your bathroom! Being renovation obsessed at the mo, I am glad to hear someone else go on about these things for once . And it does indeed sound like it'll be lovely.

It's not bekkaboo But I think she should have news for us too.

Febes · 09/05/2009 14:58

I have just read that childbirth thread about things the books don't tell you. I remember when crowing I whispered to DH I think its coming out teeth first!! And I nearly broke DHs fingers as I was squeezing them against the metal back of the bed frame thingy. The thread kind of freaked me out.

pulapula · 09/05/2009 15:07

reggiee - don't feel bad about formula feeding. From what someone on here said, the tongue tie will have made the BF very painful, so don't put yourself down by saying other mums can cope with the pain. And waiting til next Weds is a shame as it sounds like its a simple procedure. Also expressing is very hard too- if I don't get a "letdown", then i only get a few drops too, and getting a letdown was always a bit hit and miss - sometimes it helped to think about my LO or look at a photo of them - other times it was better to just watch TV and pump away without thinking about it.

ladyhelen- sorry you've been back in hospital with R but hope things are getting better for you now.

As for mixed feeding rosielady i did this with DD and DS. The main advice is you need to give at least 1 bottle every day, and if you stop, then don't expect them to just take a bottle again when you want them to - DS refused bottles altogether after a break. Maybe stick to certain feeds for the bottles (e.g. bedtime or nighttime), as this will help your boobs regulate their production and avoid engorgement. When i did the odd bottle when out and about in the day, my boobs could get quite full as they were used to that feed. And of course, the more formula you give, the less milk you produce so you need to find the best balance for you and stick to it.

Febes · 09/05/2009 15:25

Reggie and others who have had/are having trouble with expressing. I bought a boots electric one first and found it useless. I ended up getting an advent handpump for a fiver on ebay and it worked much better for me. At first though I had to get DH to pump me because I just couldn't position it right or get relaxed enough for a let down. In fact the first time he got it right I was amazed at the different feeling it was weird seeing the milk streaming out. I was only able to pump successfully once my milk was really well established DD was months old by then. Remember the amount you pump isn't indicative of the amount the baby can feed off you. They are much better expressers!! I commend you ladies that are able to express straight after birth as I think I would have found it very stressful and tiring. I was lucky though and had my mum to help. Good luck to all of you. xx

chocolatebunnies · 09/05/2009 15:26

Aha pula tis you! Please could you email me some pics of it? I really think I want one, but a) need to know what it like inside and b) where I can get one from!!!!

Which one do you have??

Febes · 09/05/2009 15:27

I thought for a moment Pula had had her baby!!!

pulapula · 09/05/2009 15:38

Lol Febes.

chocbunnies- I have the "be prepared" and "be all" bags. Bit tricky to send some pics of my be prepared as its all packed up ready for hospital as i'm using it as my baby bag.

But the official website is great- it has pics and a video for each bag. Try this link www.ju-ju-be.com/.

They are just really nice as they have loads of pockets and 2 insulated bottle/cup pockets which is great for keeping your DCs drinks warm/cold depending on what they are. They have loads of mesh pockets too for nappies etc, and the "mummy" pocket is great as it has a zip pocket, glasses pocket, mesh pockets, key chain etc.

I got my "be prepared" second hand on ebay and bought my "be all" from this website which had some discounts on certain patterns but not sure they do now .
