Here we go....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jennster · 08/05/2009 22:35

Haaawoooooo.... I'm due tomorrow on the full moon. Been glugging the Gaviscon. Does that mean I'm going to have a little werewolf?

flippineck · 08/05/2009 22:39

Isn't there a myth that if you have bad heartburn then you'll have a hairy baby?! So jennster - it's possible!

Jennster · 08/05/2009 22:43

I don't know. If you grow hairy ones does that make you have heartburn, or if you have heartburn, does drinking Gaviscon make them hairier? It's all unfounded, but oft repeated.

flippineck · 08/05/2009 22:46

LOL at gaviscon causing hairiness! Perhaps it's so sticky that it makes fluff stick to everything?

Momino · 08/05/2009 22:46

i had terrible heartburn and think Harper is a bit hairy (don't tell her i said that!).

daizydoo · 09/05/2009 00:50

Oh my goodness - I've been having contractions since about 10.30 - ouch! Am off to the hospital when I've managed to get myself dressed!

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 05:29

oooh daizydoo Good Luck - how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning all, anyone else around?

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 05:57

Morning - have been awake since about 4.30am and can't sleep as was starving so just polished off a bowl of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and still wide awake so starting on the Red Bush Tea now.
Sorry wasn't around yesterday - slept from 3-5.30pm and then again in the evening on the sofa as was feeling 'not right' - have got a cold/sore throat thing and feeling pretty ropy. Anyway, am here now, trying to catch up and I am also very excited to be 39wks exactly today! Woo Hoo! Having my 'flue' 'swept' on Tuesday so getting excited now. (How bizarre to be excited about some strange woman shoving her hand up my fanjo and causing me pain........amazing how desperate you get isn't it?)
belgian Every time I read one of your posts I feel for you - you must feel sooooooo frustrated. Am surprised you can't get a sweep until you are 40+ wks, my midwife offered one at 39 wks and my SIL was offered one last year when she was pg from 38 wks onward. Seems it maybe depends on the individual midwife? Is it worth asking another midwife to see if policy is flexible? If not come up to Dundee - we're obviously sweep-happy here!

BTW - meant to say days ago, who was it who came to Broughty Ferry to see their in-laws recently? I live in Broughty Ferry and would be delighted to meet up if you're ever back visiting????? We could get ice-cream from Visocchis............[greedy frazzle emoticon] and then walk it off on the beach!

Love the new thread title by the way momino, and I don't believe heartburn is anything to do with hair (although I know the myth says it is). My worst heartburn was with DD1 who was almost bald until she was about 2!!!! Not been too bad at all with this pg - interesting to see how much hair this one has. jennster am snorting at Gaviscon making babies hairy .......but I wonder if anyone has researched this as a side effect??!!

looby - Lansinoh is the best cream IMO - put a layer on your nipple, then a thin layer on a breast pad and stick them together. Keeps the nippple moist (and moist healing is meant to be quickest). Poor you, sore nips are hellish.
Not sure if you'll want to take this advice but I've also used nipple shields before (for a couple of days only) to give my nips a break while they healed. You're not meant to use them (according to current advice) but TBH I'd have stopped B/F DD1 if it hadn't been for them and they didn't cause nipple confusion at all (with her anyway). I've just bought the Medela ones this time as they have a cut-out bit so the baby's face can touch your breast as they feed. Obvioulsy not tried them out yet tho!
I've used Tommee Tippee breastpads before and they were good. Also haven't used them but "lilypadz' are meant to be brilliant. My SIL swears by them.

Also looby I've never really bothered buying proper 'breastfeeding tops' as such - usually I just do a bit of layering to save on flashing flesh at everyone. Wear 2 vest tops so you can pull one up, one down and no stomach/back skin need to be exposed while you're feeding (genius!) I have bought a load of very cheap vest tops (initially for labour etc) from Tesco - they were £1 each and come in about 6 colours. Probably won't last very long but will do for the initial stages until I get the hang of feeding discreetly again.
Having said that I did (accidentally) buy a maternity top from Mothercare which has 2 layers to it and only discovered yesterday that it must be a proper 'b/f top' as it has holes inside it to hoik my boob through for feeding (although bizarrely they aren't quite in the right place for my boob!)

llare sorry to hear you're having a hard time with your toddler. I don't have any advice, but you have my utmost sympathy. No doubt I'll have the same prob once my baby is born and my (very possessive) 2 year old turns into even more of a drama queen than she is already.

Sorry, mammoth post. Nice to have some peace to catch up. Am looking forward to a nice, calm (ha ha) family day today. I bought a wardrobe for the babys room yesterday (IKEA again - love the Hensvik stuff and little gingham storage compartments) so will build that later, DD1 has dancing class (so I get a sneaky hour to have coffee and chat with my friend while the kids dance) and DH has started talking (again) about swapping my car for a 4x4 with 7 seats (woo hoo) - maybe my hysterical meltdown last week over car seats did make him think seriously about it. Maybe we could go and have a look at some........

Oh and detsy - congrats on reaching your due date yesterday. I am feeling super-confident that (if you're not already in labour) you will sooooooooon - surely the full moon will work for you. Keep me posted x

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 05:58

Oh god, so sorry, that is a looooooooooooong one isn't it

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:02

Boo there's nobody here.
Off to the baby name threads for more inspiration.
Currently keen on Hugo (me) and Hector with Tor for short (dh). Opinons on those at all ladies?

flippineck · 09/05/2009 06:05

frazzled - glad someone else is here, wondered if I'd just ramble to myself for a while! I've been awake since 3:30, and eventually gave up on my bed about half an hour ago as my hips hurt. DD and DH are both fast asleep, so I'm drinkig raspberry leaf tea and trying to decide whether to eat cheerios, toast or a magnum.

daizy - looking forward to some news!

flippineck · 09/05/2009 06:06

Come back frazzled, I'm here!

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:11

flippin Morning early bird. I'd go for toast I think, possibly followed by a Magnum!

flippineck · 09/05/2009 06:17

I'm still thinking about breakfast, the raspberry leaf tea has made me feel a bit queasy!

Happy 39 weeks today! Am to admit of your sweep this week (how mad is that!) - round here MWs won't do them until 40+7 too. Mine's booked for Friday, and I haope something happens before then, but I'm starting to get a bit frustrated now!

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:28

flippin it's so weird isn't it - this sweep thing. I had a horrible sweep last time with DD2 and absolutely swore to anyone who would listen that I would NEVER NEVER NEVER have another. And there I go............looking forward to it. Am a weird, crazy pregnant lady!
Have just totally freaked myself out also by reading the thread in the 'Childbirth' section about what they don't tell you in the books......oh my god, it's just brought home to me what I've got to do (all over again). Crowning, pushing, and the aftermath.

Am also a bit and to admit that I seem to have become obsessed with the idea that I want my waters to break naturally this time (never have before). I keep rushing to the loo because I think I'm a bit 'damp' - TMI sorry. Will be unreasonably disappointed if they don't go this time either - I'm just interested to know what it's like!
(see, told you I've gone all weird).

Have you tried to raspberry leaf capsules flippin - I always found the tea VILE.

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:30

although I tried putting Ribena in it sometimes to disguise the taste and sometimes brewed it then chilled it in the fridge with ice cubes in before drinking - makes it slightly less revolting. But honestly, the capsules 3x daily are meant to be more effective anyway.

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:42

ooh ooh ooh, just went on FB and there is an announcement on there from someone who JUST HAD A BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this morning.
[frazzled hyperventilates with excitement]

Not going to post it here as don't want to steal her thunder but it's all good.

Congratulations x x x x x

flippineck · 09/05/2009 06:43

Yeah, been taking the capsules too, but thought that if I'm going to be awake so sodding early I might as well do something useful! That and I'm getting desperate.

I started reading that thread last night but it was still quite quiet then, maybe I should go for another look! I've no idea what crowning feels like, DD was bum first so I think a bit different as everything was quite well stretched before her head arrived. It does worry me though!

LOL a littlebit about you obsessing about your waters...pregnancy really does make you think od stuff, doesnt it?! I have bought a mattress protector this time because I was worried about my waters going in the middle of the night. No idea why though, with DD they went naturally, but only about 2 hours before she was born and when I was sat on the toilet. And why didn't I have one before?

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:53

LOL at you buying a mattress protector this time - I bought those bed protector things from Mothercare and layered them on my mattress just in case ( and I never bothered about it with the other 2 pregnancies either) - but this time I have an expensive mattress to protect and, as I say am obsessed with the idea of my waters breaking. Freak. (Me, not you obviously!)

Go and look at FB!!! Now, now, now!

frazzledoldbag · 09/05/2009 06:57

flippin - you had a vaginal breech with your 1st baby? OMG you are amazing.

BTW 'crowning' was the point at which I remember thinking to myself
'NEVER, NEVER, EVER DO THIS AGAIN. NEVER. REMEMBER THIS!!!!'
Ahem, and what am I just about to do?
Amazing what you forget about isn't it - it's so worth it in the end, just a bit (ahem) 'stingy' at the time!

emmabemmasmom · 09/05/2009 08:03

daizy Oh goodluck! Finger crossed you get a baby out of you soon!

Oh I just checked FB and I must not have the mystery person as a friend cause I don't see the new baby news!!!! Ah well I will just have to wait...but I am used to waiting these days lol

Frazzle Lol I also thought that same thing when 'crowning'. I was yelling at the dr saying that she better tell me the head was almost out. She said no, not even close! But yes you are right, it is amazing what we forget. If nature made us remember we would all be only children

BF: Unfortunatly last time we had some issues, and on day 10 I gave in. I was in bed crying, DD was crying...and so I sent DH to Asda at 3am to get bottles, formula, sterlizer, the lot...and I never looked back. I would have delt with the pain if I knew she was getting what she needed. It was awful...but I am going to try again. I have a pump this time so we will see, but I am not going to set high hopes just in case.

Well it is still pouring rain here...boo. DH went to work today too...double boo. He normally leaves before DD gets up, but today he went in later just as she just woke up. SO he had to sneak out before she saw him as we knew she would freak...poor DD...such a daddies girl.

Well I guess I have another day of being housebound to look forward to. Wonder if we will get more babies today?????

Febes · 09/05/2009 09:02

Exciting to get some more baby news over night.

Flippin and frazz I was also awake tossing and turning at stupid o'clock last night but was too lazy to come downstairs from the loft.

I know I have said I neither expect or particularly want this baby to come before the end of this week (40+7ish) but this waiting for something to happen really does you head in doesn't it. I have some fairly strong BH last night and then back ache but nothing.

We are having our bathroom plastered today and I'm so happy as I was starting to think we would still be doing our bathroom once my parents were gone back home. Now we might be nearly finished when they arrive next sunday.

Febes · 09/05/2009 09:10

I have an urge to go to Ikea today. Am I mad???

I was nesting like mad here last night. I got some carpet cleaner and attempted to scrub the rug in our lounge to remove the cake stains DD has trod into it. Then I cleared the hair and soapy muck out of the drains in our ensuite that was at about 11pm last night.

flippineck · 09/05/2009 09:23

Back again - had to dash off earlier as DD woke up and DH was ignoring her still asleep. Checked FB and I can't see it either, drat - will have to wait too!

I gave DD her breakfast and then while she was watching CBeebies I fell asleep in the armchair for half an hour! Still feel pretty pants, but maybe it'll help me face the birthday party we've got to go to later (20 2 year olds at a farm!)

frazzled - yes to vb and breech, but only by accident! Undiagnosed and too late to do much else.

Febes - mad? Probably. But a pregnant women's got do what a pregnant woman's gotta do...
