Congrats Ses Daizy and Belgian - wow, we are certainly efficient labourers on this thread! Beautiful names too. Daizy great birth story, you coped amazingly well. Making lots of noise is a prerogative, who cares who hears and what they think!!

Belgian can't wait to hear your tale! Glad you didn't give birth on the Roaches. I passed there yesterday on the way to my Mum's but didn't spot any imminently birthing ladies up there.

flippin dandy good luck!!

And to cote & pulapula

Better go & get a shower while Harvey is still napping. Can only just keep up these days.

We're going to have to start a postnatal thread soon!

sausagenmash · 11/05/2009 10:12

Gaah.

Congrats to Belgian! Lots of luck to those with impending hatchings! Woooh! I love all these short labours. Bet mine is going to be the humdinger of a 3 day one, or something.

Had another row with dp yesterday - all over this bloody isofix base thingy for the carseat. I think we've got one that doesn't work properly. Has anyone got one that they can advise me on? Basically, it goes in ok to the bits in the car, but the 'support leg' doesn't seem very supportive. The instructions say that the hinge bit should lock into place, but it doesn't. And apparently its my fault. Well, he didn't say it, but he didn't need to. We're still barely talking, but are - sort of. Am so, so, so, down. Each time we argue, he blames me being pregnant, and some nasty things were said yesterday on both sides, and I feel really awful today. Booooooo. Sorry to bring the cheery morning thread down

SpangleMaker · 11/05/2009 10:12

Do we have breaking news Jennster?

Belgianchocolates · 11/05/2009 10:15

Hi, everyone. Thanks for all the lovely messages.

We've sent the dcs off to school for the morning as they were awake from all the noise anyway and a bit hyper. A whole day will be too long though, so we'll pick them up after lunch and then we'll all have an early night

She's sooo gorgeous and chubby, but then I would say that, wouldn't I

So here's a quick story of Claire's birth. We've decided to stick with that name.

So I wasn't sure whether to go to bed or not. I decided to go, because they did feel more like strong b/h and were a bit irregular. At 2am I woke for a wee. I went and when I got up I felt mild period type pain. I didn't want to get overexcited, so went to bed and straight to sleep. So again I didn't think anything was happening. At 3am, ds woke us up because of a nightmare. As soon as I woke I felt stronger period pain. I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, because I was thinking that it couldn't be labour as I went to sleep so easily before. After about 20-30min though, I thought that I'd better get up to the living room and see how often they were coming, because they felt fairly regular pains and stronger than anything I'd ever had. As soon as I started walking the pain turned up a notch. I even switched on the computer to announce on MN that I thought I was in labour, but the pain just suddenly hit me and I never got round to that. After about 10min downstairs on my own I called DH and shortly after the hospital as the contractions were coming every 3 min or so and each one was stronger than the previous one. I felt a bit silly, because I'd only had 45mins of contractions, but they were real! Almost as soon as I'd hung up I made dh phone them back, because I could feel it was going fast and I wanted the mw + G&A there NOW. I was screaming (something I never did with my other labours) with each contraction and clinging onto my ball for dear life! It took DH a while to get through to labour ward and they decided to send an ambulance in case something happened before the mw got here. In the mean time my noisiness had woken my mum and ds. By the time the ambulance people came I felt like I'd have to start pushing soon, but not yet. The ambulance people didn't want to give me g&a until they knew what was happening + they wanted to take me into hospital even though I was for a home delivery. At that point I started pushing. Luckily after that 1st push the mw did arrive and they were happy to give me g&a. 3 contractions later Claire was born with a house full of ambulance people and mws. So far for the relaxed, gentle h/b I'd imagined . My placenta was delivered nearly an hour later because I had a physiological 3rd stage. I'm so happy I had one of those, because I felt so well afterwards. The syntometrin made me feel sick and horrible after the other 2, but this time I felt great.

So I didn't really have any pain relief and it all came on so quick that I became scared and panicky. The hypnotherapy went straight out of the window. It wasn't until the mw arrived, about 10 mins before Claire was born, that I relaxed a bit. Up until that point I felt out of control, because it seemed like she was going to be born without a mw attending and that scared me big time!

Afterwards Claire went to the breast straightaway and spent almost 2h suckling on and off. She's asleep now and I've spent most of the morning cuddling and admiring her

My SPD hasn't quite vanished like I had expected, but it's miles better. I can just feel I'm not lugging around all these extra pounds anymore

My parents are happy too that they've been able to witness the birth and see Claire before they go. Last time dd was born the day before they left. This time the day they actually leave!

I took my last raspberry leaf tablet last night too, so it's just as well she was born tonight!

chocolatebunnies · 11/05/2009 10:17

Ooooooooooooooooooooooo they cant come and look at my washing machine until tomorrow, boooooo, I even tried playing the "pregnant lady about to pop card" to no avail!

I had a very odd moment this mornin where I forgt, yes actually forgot, that I was pregnant! I was lying in bed just waking up and couldn't feel my bump, it felt in my head IYKWIM that it was normal flat (ha!) tummy, I had to rub it to make sure it was still there! If only you could give birth in your sleep and notbe aware of it!

Welcome clove , thats alot of techniques you've tried, some I've never even heard of!

I haven't tried any techniques as yet (can't take the Raspberry Leaf Teas tablets due to my dodgy coeliac tum!) So come on ladies, how can I get this baby out, NOW!!!!!!

Belgianchocolates · 11/05/2009 10:18

I just re-read my post and I meant that I hadn't expected my SPD to vanish, because it was so bad. But I can walk so much better and the pain is almost gone.

runningmonkey · 11/05/2009 10:19

Congrats Belgian and daizy hope I haven't missed anyone else too - congrats if I have.

Hello clove dandy, blotted and flippin hope all is ok for you guys

cote hope you are ok too.

No signs here despite walking around ikea and lakeside for hours yesterday and then putting together a load of ikea furniture... thought the stress alone might cause something to happen. Don't know why I'm stressing as due date isn't for another 12 days, I'm just so uncomfy and fed up of being immobile I want the baby out like now! MW is coming tomorrow so will see if I can get a sweep. Going to do a load of cleaning/sorting today in an effort to kick things off too.

sorry haven't namechecked everyone, am too pg brain addled to remember anything atm, even with two windows open

have a good day all,
running m xx

SpangleMaker · 11/05/2009 10:32

Wow Belgian!! What a fab story. True to your profession, showing us how it's done

runningmonkey · 11/05/2009 10:32

Aah my computer is so slow today - belgian amazing birth story, scarily quick! Glad your Mum and Dad were there too.

Right must go and have a shower am embarassed to admit I am still in my pj's

Reggiee · 11/05/2009 10:46

BELGIAN - fab, many congrats. And what a good weight! Go fast births!

Is the full moon working wonders then - wonder what is happening to all the others 'in progress'?

Jennster...????

Forgot to welcome CLOVE

SPANGLE I think as first born, it's down to you to start a new postnatel thread

Hello everyone else. Hope all is well and in particular that broken washing machines get fixed and unhelpful dh's pull their fingers out!

Blottedcopybook · 11/05/2009 10:53

Congrats Belgian!

No further news from me I'm afraid, I was very very unwell when I posted the other night - I think I mentioned I was having the worst bowel movement of my life but very quickly afterwards I was sick too and so violently that I couldn't muster the strength to go to the hospital. We called NHS24 and the labour ward - NHS24 said they thought it was viral and labour ward said they thought it was early labour so I had to sit it out. I was really sick again at 5am and then spent most of yesterday in a feverish haze. Today I'm still feeling very wobbly and dizzy so I'm trying to take it easy.

cloveofhislife · 11/05/2009 12:26

Thanks again for more welcomes. I loved reading your birth story Belgian, congratulations. Are people having very fast labours on this board then?

I had my sweep this morning! Not great news really. I am only 1 cm (which is no dilation for a multip) and not effaced. Not really favourable for a sweep apparently.
She has said that 3 quick successive sweeps are normally productive, but will wait until Thursday, then Saturday to do my following 2 to see if I become more favourable in that time.
Anyone any experience with sweeps? Especially if the cervix and os not favourable?

Blottedcopybook · 11/05/2009 12:32

Clove I had sweeps every week from 38w until 42w with DS2 and I practically had to stick my arm up there and pull him out! I was induced with prostin and a drip and it still took 12 hours to get the little horror out. I think a sweep will work if you're near your time but otherwise it's just another thing on the list to try.

I was 1cm on Thursday and got two nice vigorous sweeps. Other than the horrendous upset tummy on Saturday it's made no difference at all to my contractions

Febes · 11/05/2009 12:38

Clove I'm off to the MW in about 10mins and am hoping for a sweep hope I'm more than 1cm but only 3 days over and nothing seems to be happening yet so probably not.

Belgian Wow that happened so fast I can't believe you only had 3 contractions with G and A what a star!!!

I went to a local Toddler group this morning 5 mins walk away. Cost 1.50 so nice and cheap and it was really nice. Clean hall with loads of toys. Nice kids. Tea and coffee and snack time for the kids all sitting around tables with raisins, bread sticks etc. I spent the first half not talking to anyone as I was feeling too shy but then I meet 3 really nice mums so I'm looking forward to going again. The one I went to on thursday was also great but I knew lots of people there but I am keen to meet people who live close. What do you guys who have toddlers do?? I want to do something each morning if possible but not spend much money!!

Anyway the bathroom is ticking along DH has been off this morning so if prepping for the tiles. Must start walking along to the docs now. Hope the walk sets me off into labour.

cloveofhislife · 11/05/2009 12:52

blotted sorry you aren't well. I got a diarrhea and sickness bug when I was 37 + 4. I was up the whole night vomiting stuff which felt like it had come up from my bowels my stomach was soooo empty. it never put me in labour though. Luckily I got over it within 48 hours, I hope you do too.
febes good luck with your sweep. I do so hope this kicks starts it for you.
I'm feeling very deflated about this pregnancy happening naturally for some reason.

detsy · 11/05/2009 12:58

Congrats Belgian!!! Super duper fast or what and what a big bouncing baby - can't wait to see some pics!! Well done and big hugs xxxx

chocolatebunnies · 11/05/2009 13:10

oooooooooooooo will this pain ever stop! another 3 1/2 weeks of this burning pain in my bump may actually drive me insane!!!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/05/2009 13:32

Oh blotted you're having a really shite time. You have my utmost sympathy. I hope you feel better and that baby comes out soon.

Blottedcopybook · 11/05/2009 13:46

Cheers Grumpy - I hate feeling like all I do is moan to you guys but honestly, there's not been much to be happy about lately!

Also for any of you thinking about trying the evening primrose oil thing, don't!! I really frightened myself with it because I was so unwell a few hours after it and I was still pouring with the oil right up until late last night! And after all that it didn't blardy work.

alapala · 11/05/2009 13:56

Awwww, more babies!

We've had a SHIT few days, in hospital, not for a new baby but for poor DS. On Friday the doc said his ear infection had become matoiditis and we should get ourselves to hospital. He was admitted immediately and had to go on IV antibiotics. He reacted very well but spent the whole time saying 'no like it' and 'it hurts', it broke my heart. And then suddenly we were released this morning for home treatment.

DS is now is very cheery so feeling extremely relieved but physically and emotionally drained. There is NO WAY I am ready for a baby soon. I clearly can't look after 1 properly, so two??

Febes · 11/05/2009 14:24

Apalapa sorry to hear DS has been so poorly. I'm sure it will be easier now your back home. Hope he is all better soon.

Blotted sorry to hear you have had a rotten bug. Won't be trying the evening primrose then.

I went to the midwife this afternoon and everything was fine with me and baby they will give me a sweep at 40+5 which is wednesday so that sounds fine. Then if nothing has happened I will be booked for induction at 41+5 (next wednesday) I'm sure it won't come to that though.

I have a sense of deep weariness now after days of feeling full of energy (a sign maybe?) I have yet tried any self induction as I haven't been worried but I'm weary now. I think I'll try a clary sage bath later and dig out my homeopthy kit to find the cauliphylum stuff. Can't be arsed having sex though . Maybe I should have some Raspberry leaf capsules. I have everything just haven't bothered taking it.

llareggub · 11/05/2009 14:46

Yay! Congratulations belgianchocolates your birth story made me cry!

Welcome to clove

Sorry I haven't been around much. I am finding it difficult to keep up with the thread, and have quality time with DS1. He is still feeling rather put out by George's arrival and needs lots of 1 to 1 time. So we took him to a car museum yesterday which he loved, and have just baked brownies.

febes I felt just like you, and despite the tantrums from DS1, I am finding DS2 so much easier than the first time around. I don't know if it is because he has taken to feeding easier than DS1 did, or whether it is because I am more relaxed, but something is different.

George is 13 days old now and I am starting to feel more human. My stitches have dissolved and the tummy pains have gone, so things are looking up. I can't wait for the lochia to stop, it is a real irritant after 9 months without a period!

Momino · 11/05/2009 14:55

Belgian, just saw the news on fb...hurrah!! what a quick labour as well. i'd like to think it was the full moon effect (though a a teeny bit late). hope your spd sorts itself. and love the name Claire, very classic. what did your DC's think? did they see her being born?

Blotted, really hope you're feeling better soon. and alapala, same for your DS. You really need to try to get some rest to relieve some of the stress you've been through. hope you can relax.

sweeps, i had a sweep the day i went into labour but mw didn't say if/how much i was dilated nor if 'conditions were right'. could've been the sweep, or the curry, or the reflexology , i'll never know.

OP posts:
Blottedcopybook · 11/05/2009 16:01

Alapala Oh no, poor wee sausage. Hope he feels better soon.

I had to see the midwife today for a checkup, bp was low but everything else is okay. Seeing the consultant tomorrow and hopefully getting booked in for induction!

FiKelly · 11/05/2009 16:48

alapala what a rotten time you've all had with your ds having such a bad ear infection... I hope he's feeling more on the mend now and don't blame yourself in anyway you've looked after him wonderfully.

belgian I'm in awe of your speedy birth and i'm not surprised the hypnotherapy went out the window with the kind of pace that claire came out! so delighted that it happened just before your mum and dad went home too. perfect timing all round

blotted i was really hoping the reason you'd been quiet was because of another impending exciting arrival. I'm so sorry to hear it wasn't and you've been really poorly instead i hope you are feeling a bit better v soon.

I had my mw check today and YAY!!! no signs of Pre eclampsia so absolutely delighted. It really looks like i'm not going to get it 2nd time around [phew] baby is still bobbing around and not remotely engaged but is at least still head down [another phew]. Blood pressure normal and now just continuing the waiting game... As i'm due to see the consultant next tues to set a pos cs date [they'll let me go a bit longer till 27th may] my mw didn't feel the need to see me again as the next few app's will prob be at the hos. So the next time i see her may be when i get home with #2! No sweeps mentioned by her... but i did ask and she said the hospital may mention it to me on tues...

I'm off to check back through the thread for minim's reckoning of back pain to expected delivery schedule as all afternoon while ds was at pre school i've been getting sharp lower back pains... with occasional ones shooting down my legs?! It's prob nothing as i was pushing a trolley round sainsbury's [with very little in it] and have had to lift ds quite a few times today so prob just over done it... but who knows?!
