Ooh Laura does sound like something is happening, but as a first timer I don't really know, so hopefully one of the experienced Juners can tell you. Am thinking of you, though!

bunnymother · 21/05/2009 06:38

Crossed w Naat! Agree = call the hospital. About to listen to HB CD...

daisy5 · 21/05/2009 07:20

laura- this is serious - ring them NOW and I mean NOW. The midwives will be horrified that you haven't contacted them sooner. Or just get in the car and get to the hospital asap. Get going - do not wait until 10.30. Call a b ambulance if you need to, just get going NOW. This is very very serious business.

[Daisy composes herself emoticon]

I can't imagine having more than one person with me at the birth. I thought it was a very intimate moment when baby popped out and wouldn't have wanted anyone else there to be honest. It also made dh feel important and needed. With his son's emergency cs 10 years earlier, he felt very pushed into the background and left out of it all but with dd he was only one of two people there and cut the cord etc . My only wish is that he had actively helped me a bit more with my breathing, but at 5am in the morning it is hard to get enthusiastic about breathing.

mrsmcjnr & choccie - as my first labour was quick, I've been told to go in any time after 1 contraction every 15 minutes and definitely before 1 in 12 minutes. I am very worried about a quick birth and am now taking my suitcase with me in the car when I go out. I have towels at hand downstairs, and a list of 'quick birth' instructions and all phone numbers in a folder by the phone. DP has managed to change his diary so has only one night in London before I am due, so that is good.

mrsmcjnr - it sounds like you are having a wearying time. Poor you honey. I guess you were just looking forward to enjoying being in your new home and waiting for the birth of number 2.

insy - 1 cm dilated - fantastic - on the way now

doris - love the 'massacre in a donkey sanctuary'. I am in the spare bedroom now and sleeping better because of it. I can get all three pillows out and get really comfortable, take up lots of room, turn the duvet over to the cool side when I get too hot, pee three times in the night without waking dp and get up at 6.00 without disturbing him. And not get accused of 'donkey massacre'!!

littlesarah - well done. You will be walking on air. You must give yourself one little treat, even if it is just tea and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam at a very smart hotel .

naat - hi ya. I was told to go in at 5 mins if I was in pain but hold out to 3-4 mins if ok with it. When I went in contractions slowed down a bit (every 5-6mins) and they wanted to send me home but I said 'no', as I knew I couldn't make another journey in the car. They do have a ward you can wait in if you refuse to go home. They do rather assume every first birth is going to be a slow one, which is not always the case. Second births and third births are almost always quicker as dilation happens much much faster.

Must go, can hear noises of people waking and so time to make cup of tea and porridge. DP behaving better now - being very sweet. I wish he would find a way to let off steam that didn't involve upsetting all those around him!!

Tee2072 · 21/05/2009 08:24

laura that was your show. You are, mostly likely, in labour.

Get to the hospital!!

ermintrude13 · 21/05/2009 08:34

laura, the show is rather like an elephant's nose blow and can be streaked with blood. A sign that labour is on the way, and as everyone has said if it's accompanied by cramps do call the MW. If they're not regular yet they might advise coming in later but at least they'll be ready for you and you can start timing contractions. How exciting, good luck!

MRsMc really hope someone can sort your DH out and that he hasn't got anything seriuos.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 21/05/2009 08:38

Having had a show laura I can say that it sounds just like mine! They can happen a days before labour starts. Ring the ante-natal department at your hospital and talk them through what happened. They might just want you to wait until you see the midwife. She can check if you're dilated at all.

My show happened a few hours before labour kicked in.

Get your bags and the car seat in the car!

Good luck xx

Laura I was up at 5 too, wish I'd logged on now. It does sound like a show, It may be nothing but would definitely agree with the others that a call to the mw can do no harm, at worst they will say wait till 10!

In combination with the pains that you can not sleep through, gives a strong indication of early labour. Yeah we may yet have our first baby (no pressure or anything can't remember when you are due??)

Right after awful night, swollen feet DD's waking, and no sleep since 5 I am going to try and get DD's haircut as they currently look like shaggy sheepdogs and I don't think I'll be up to organising anything once this LO arrives.

Have a good (and maybe productive- Laura) day everyone

daisy5 · 21/05/2009 08:48

What concerns me most is the amount of pain laura has been in for the past two days. Maybe it is just irregular contractions, but a friend of mine had very similar terrible cramps and it was the placenta and lining coming away prematurely, which is uncommon but life threatening.

I don't want to be alarming but just think she should speak to someone asap.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/05/2009 08:50

Daisy I agree proper advice should be sought!!

ARE YOU LISTENING LAURA!!!! (felt properly bossy then!)

Naat · 21/05/2009 08:55

Morning Juners!

laura, thinking of you, keep us posted xx

Not such a bad night here but I woke up at 6am anyway Last night, however, when we went to bed, LO started moving, it hurt, and in a period of 15 min I had to wee 3 times... maybe she's trying to engage? God knows... I do feel quite a bit of pressure in my bladder, I feel I want to wee all the time, so maybe that's it.

Let's catch up now...

daisy thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, I've heard of quick first births so I didn't quite get the 3-4min rule Glad to hear your DP has made arrangements in order to be "local" these days.

mrsmc hope your DH can see a doc and they can give him something... Has your MIL finished her "holidays" already? Hope she has so that you can have a bit more help around... xx

littleS thinking of you today!!! (((hug)))

Thanks littleS doris insy and ermin for your advice re.nappies. I've been on ebay looking at some of them... I guess the suggestion of getting various ones is wise, maybe getting one or two of several brands might be a good idea at first to try and see which one works best for LO. Thanks!!

insy hope your DS is feeling better and that your tummy is settling now...

doris I sometimes have to write things in a notepad as well Glad that you could rest during your afternoon LOL at your DH not wanting to listen to the hb CD to avoid relaxing his birth canal I told DH, who has to listen to it when we go to bed, and he said "well, he's right!"

choccie I'm also going to the loo several times in the day now, which is odd as since getting pg I've had the opposite problem I guess our bodies are getting rid of the "unnecessary"

Right, I'll try aquanatal today but will take it really easy as I haven't been too active and I don't want everything to ache tomorrow

Weather is still bad here... where's the beautiful sun?!?!?!

(((waves)))

LittleSarah · 21/05/2009 09:18

Morning!

Laura - I hope you have phoned midwives! Hopefully it is just the onset of labour (hmmm, did I just say just the onset of labour??) and not anything else, that is most likely! But do check asap!

Naat - Who knows what your baby is up too, I can't work mine out either! I thought about whether they were engaging over weekend as I also had tight crampy pains but still the pressure on my bladder is okay and bump seems quite high. Also had a difficult night - rare for me - mainly because I'm really struggling to feel comfortable now.

Doris - Argh, you've reminded me I must book to get my hair highlighed before this bloody ball, tis barely a week away!

Daisy - I know, I know, at the moment I am just nervous and need to finish report off and stuff but this afternoon... ah! Will be grand! Hope the porridge went down well.

Right, I am in the uni library for the last time and I think I should probably do a little work!

Good luck to Effie and Laura, I'll be checking in again soon!

June2009 · 21/05/2009 10:12

naat The sun is in london

Ooh a show already Laura, I hope you're ok keep us posted. I was told the show can happen a couple of weeks before labour.
(Laura is due 20th june btw).

Not seen any updates on Effie's fb. Hoping you're ok too hand that the steroid injections are keeping the baby put for a little while longer.

Thank you all for your feedback about who is coming to the birth with you. I'm not convinced I actually want anyone else either (or that anyone else would really want to be there appart from dh). Just worried dh might pass out, he goes pale whenever we mention anything slightly tmi.

Tee what colour did you get on your nails

insy How are you doing? What's next for you, do you have to keep going to the mw so she can see how dilated you are or are you waiting for contractions now?

Louise u all right? not heard from you in a little while. (up north already?)

((waves)) to everybody else! gotta go back to work!

Tee2072 · 21/05/2009 10:19

june my fingers are french polished and my toes are sassy unmummy red!! Of course I've already ruined them. sigh

Nemoandthefishes · 21/05/2009 10:50

hello all
not been on here for a longgggggggggggg time so recap is I am nemo expecting no.4[dd3] and due 21st june.

Thought would pop on and see how everyoen is doing.
absolutely shattered here and cant sleep, dd3 is breech and measuring 4wks bigger so lots of fun! Have MW again next tues where will prob be sent for a scan. Am being induced at 38 n bit weeks unless I end up having c sec with ehr being breech. Trio keeping me busy and school run is a killer, worse still that dd2[2.4yrs] fractured her thigh about 5wks ago now] but she gets her plaster off on tues and we go away a week on sat for a week in wales...now thinking it may not have been such a good idea!!!
Have had bad back ache and false labour pains last 2 days plus dd3 does not stop moving!!

bigcar · 21/05/2009 11:00

morning all

Ooooh, laura, definitely sounds like the start of labour!!! Will be thinking of you

thanks for the update on effie tee Hope all's well effie, thinking of you too

june, if your dh gets a bit squeamish, get him to turn the chair round in the labour room so he is facing your face rather than anywhere else! It's only usually at the end that things get really mucky!

littlesarah, yay for last day at uni!

Do you think it is a ds thing with them and their poos My dds have always sorted themselves out, no problem, ds used to holler from the toilet, mum, mum, want you wipe my bum! Oh the joys

MrsMcJnr, you're not being selfish at all, we all need a high level of support at the moment and need our dh/dps to be on top of the game! Hope the docs manage to sort him out today.

naat, sorry, lovely blue skies in London today, bit blowly but possibility of rain later if that makes you feel any better

Still not getting much sleep here, way too uncomfy! Doesn't look like the doctors sweep had any effect on tuesday, nothing more than the usual bh. I didn't think anything would happen, I had 4 sweeps last time to get dd3 moving, didn't acheive a thing, but there's always hope It's hard to imagine this time next week I could be holding my baby, if all goes to plan

Did anyone see the apprentice last night? They were at the baby show, I thought it was hysterical especially the antics in the birth pool

waves to all

bigcar · 21/05/2009 11:06

Hello nemo definitely with you on the school run, thank god for half term next week eh?! Hope your dd2s leg is ok. I'm also measuring on the rather huge side and am being induced next week after growth scans showed my lo being slightly on the hefty side

June2009 · 21/05/2009 11:41

For those of you being induced, how does it go? Do you expect to have the baby after a set/rough amount of time at all or is it more "encouraging" labour to get going?

Nemoandthefishes · 21/05/2009 11:51

June
I have been induced with all 3 so far and it went like this
check ups and monitoring for 1hr
pessary and monitoring every hour there after for 15mins
6hrs later another pessary
for me thats the one that usually gets things going and start to get pains/have show etc. More monitoring and within about 2hrs of second pessary get moved to delivery room.
DS was born 90mins after pains started
both dds were 8hrs later exactly and expect the same for dd3

June2009 · 21/05/2009 12:11

Hey Nemo, welcome back ;)

Thanks for that explanation, someone from my nct group was induced on Monday and we have heard nothing back since, I am wondering if She definitely had the baby on monday or whether she could still be waiting, in hopsital or otherwise.

A few of us have had:

  • more or less recently: lots of braxton hicks, mildish period like cramps, back ache, general tiredness.
  • swollen ankles for the past month or two
  • insomnia throughout.
  • and nausea is back for some of the ones that were lucky enough not to have it all along...

...amongst other "usual" side effects such as dizziness, high blood pressure, baby brain, infuriating siblings, parents and in laws, random mws, clueless dhs and existing dc insiting for their bottoms to be wiped for them Ah the joys of pregnancy :D

Nemoandthefishes · 21/05/2009 12:23

June if its her first she may still be in hospital
other thing is with induction there is a risk of c section, also of course she could just be shattered from whole thing. With mine from first pessary to baby is usually within 24hrs

Naat · 21/05/2009 12:32

June your last post was hilarious!

Hi nemo! hope your DD's leg gets better soon.

bigcar yes, I saw it too!! That pool looked great, though

LittleSarah · 21/05/2009 12:35

Bigcar - Yes I did see the apprentice, very amusing as usual, dh loved that buggy!

Hello nemo - Things sound pretty knackering at your end and no wonder! I hope you get some time to relax in Wales. Sorry to hear baby is breech, still time to turn though, mine was breech until 36 weeks, and my cousin's was transverse til then.

Beginning to get nervous about presentation, was quite calm, just wanting it over and relieved to be done with uni but now it is actually happening... oh well, will be done within the hour!

bigcar · 21/05/2009 12:42

june, you make pregnancy sound so ........ glam Reading your little summary there will be enough to make anyone feel broody again

Obviously nemo knows her stuff on induction Lack of beds on the labour ward can really slow things up sometimes too!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 21/05/2009 12:44

Good luck LittleSarah

I also watched The Apprentice! I love it! James is hilarious - 'opens a flap and out jumps baby'....

Feeling tired today. Have now had three nights of good sleep. Still crampy but no other signs so it doesn't feel imminent...

Hey Nemo

Off to do DS's lunch (pizza fingers, smiley faces and beans.... bad mum )

I keep checking in for Laura and Effie.... hope all is going okay!
