OMG seeing that Effie is in labour has put me into panic-mode - got to get everything finished. Is it bad that the first thing I did was apply another coat of toenail polish? .

Have all my fingers crossed for Effie!

lauraloo09 · 18/05/2009 12:39

ive had my hospital bag packed for weeks, maybe i'll just check i have everything was effie not supposed to have a section?

bigcar · 18/05/2009 12:42

Hope effie and her lo are doing well, will keep everything crossed.

bunny, don't go thinking about disposable knickers or nappies or anything like that

chocciedooby · 18/05/2009 12:44

wow, Effie in labour!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck Effielou
This is soooo exciting.

bunnymother · 18/05/2009 12:44

Bigcar - good point on the practicalities . I have all that boring stuff packed, but would much rather focus on the more "fun" things...

BTW went to Mothercare where they presented me w the ugliest nursing bra. Felt v depressed at the sight of it, so certainly didn't buy it. Need to find me a Hot Milk stockist. Esp since it seems we can go into labour at any time and I don't have a single nursing bra!

lauraloo09 · 18/05/2009 12:49

bunny i got my nursing bras last week from bravissimo one is very sexy looking (if you can get a sexy looking nursing bra) and the other is a standard black one. they were reasonably priced both coming to £45

chocciedooby · 18/05/2009 12:53

Hey everyone. There has been a lot of chatting over the last couple of days.

Ermin - When I read your post about a firend that went into labour at home and had a fairly quick birth I was thrown into a panic. It is a big fear of mine to not get to the hospital on time and deliver at home. Thats just me. When I delivered both DS's I was quite ill immediately afterwards with sky high blood pressure and the threat of seizures so I would rather be where my OB is.

MrsMc - I would have been raging too about neighbours party above. Would drive me demented. Hope you have managed to recover from your busy weekend.

June - How did your lunch go? Sounds like your BP is under control and you are being advised correctly so I wouldn't worry. I have no problems with BP during pgy., its after delivery that it goes nuts. I was on medication for 2 years after delivered DS1. Eventually it dropped and I came off medication. All is fine now but am expecting it to go nuts again after this birth. I have to watch the lower number.

Hi Snowwombat - How are you?

Naat tried to add you as friend on FB. I am also completely useless on these things. I couldn't find anyone else.

We all took a road trip yesterday up to Banbridge Northern Ireland and loaded the car up with nappies, baby milk, baby wipes etc. Saved quite a lot of money as the price of the same things down here is robbery. It was well worth the trip. I feel so organised now that I am ready for the baby
I am also ready to wave goodbye to my swollen hands and feet and look forward to being able to lay on my back or front again.

bigcar · 18/05/2009 12:56

Of course bunny Thanks laura, will check them out, I need a couple more bras!

bunnymother · 18/05/2009 13:17

Laura - thanks for the tip! Will have a looksy pronto!

BTW I went to Primark this morning and bought some dark sheets, in case post-delivery I bleed in bed (don't want to ruin white sheets). Not sure if this is a good idea for anyone else?

ermintrude13 · 18/05/2009 13:25

bunny I shall be sitting on multiple sanitary towels held on with tight paper pants, and possibly sitting on one of those mats you put under children's sheets when nappy training

bunnymother · 18/05/2009 14:02

Ermintrude - multiple sanitary towels? I think I have underestimated the "flow" . I better have another squizz at the labour bag to be sure I have packed enough...

Now, please don't let me sit on MN all afternoon when clearly I have lots to do!

daisy5 · 18/05/2009 14:08

Hi all,

It's one of those days where I am struggling to read the posts. I'm quite tired. After such a lovely successful weekend a week ago, this one was hideous and my dp was just vile - argued about everything and was so horrible, sulked, made me cry - everything. So mrsmcjnr - I'm back in your camp. By the way, sorry to hear about the crazy party.

I have a facebook account but only use it to post photos to family and close friends and find it so slow to upload that I hardly go on it, so not much point me joining you on that, but glad to hear you are all happily sharing stuff.

My baby's head is clearly now completely free of my pelvis, which is a bit worrying. The good thing is that there is no pressure on my bladder and I swaggered into nursery in a way I haven't in many many weeks. The worrying thing obviously, is that this is far from ideal, although apparently second babies can slip back in very quickly as we 'second-time-around' gals are a bit 'looser' - our muscles have given out!!

choccie - glad to hear you had a successful trip. We went to IKEA and after taking ages to select our wardrobe, discovered there were none in stock. So we have shelves for toys, but no wardrobe and drawers yet. Hmmm.

Hi to everyone else bunny, Ineed, tee lady of leisure, snowwombat, ermie, bigcar.

Oh laura & naat - yes the peculiar thing about my pains were that they were all the way around and into my back, just like contractions, unlike the BH ones where my tummy goes hard as concrete (so hard to put on shoes when BH in full swing!!!) only they weren't regular like contractions. But I didn't get any last night.

Wow, effie in labour. I don't recognise her name - is she a new-ish gal?

ermintrude13 · 18/05/2009 14:09

bunny sometimes a couple are necessary, don't worry, i was slightly exaggerating. just to make sure there was no leakage. it can get pretty heavy but actually that never lasted long for me, maybe 2-3 days, and then it was medium to light for weeks and weeks

daisy5 · 18/05/2009 14:25

bunny - Like ermintrude* I used one or two maternity pads and a maternity mat (from Boots) for the first 4-5 nights, although I did have problems with the maternity mats moving around as I turned in my sleep. I didn't get on with the disposable knickers, I much preferred just using cheapie M&S knickers.

One of the bigger concerns, was waking feeling I was leaking heavily, standing up to go to the toilet and the 'deluge' happening on the carpet beside the bed, so I had a string of towels all the way from my bed to the loo.

June2009 · 18/05/2009 14:32

Ooooh Effie's in labour, good luck!

Yeah panic mode here too, frantically trying to tidy up my office and file a ton of paperwork clearly and in the right places, not had lunch yet and finding it very hard to focus on even the simplest of conversations. Looking at birth announcement cards again as well.

I'm all confused about our juners posts, I can't keep up
I have added some of you on fb but don't know everyone's rl name either so will have to cross check here. I don't think I have a hope in hell to keep that up either LOL.

Thanks for the bp explanations everyone, much helpful.
choccie I hope you don't have the same problems with bp this time round!

Lunch was good yesterday we managed to bbq between rain showers and had a pleasant afternoon followed by a trip to the cinema to see "wolverine".
Thanks Tee for the warning, we're going to see Star Strek this week too. Making the most of it while lo is staying put.

I read in the "pg bible" that most first babies are 8 days overdue. Hanging on to that thought :D

daisy5 · 18/05/2009 16:29

bunny I should add that I only lost 100ml during the birth, so I was told I may have very heavy bleeding for the first few days.

chocciedooby · 18/05/2009 17:25

Hey Naat glad I have the right person on FB. Your bump is so lovely. I daren't post a recent picture of mine. I am huge! I am constantly hungry and finding it so hard not to eat.

Tee - I went to see Star Trek on Sat night with DH. I wasn't keen to go really but ended up enjoying more than dh . Yes, the bit at the beginning seemed quite relevant for any of us facing imminent birth. I didn't need tissues but it pulled on my heart strings.

Re: Maternity Pads. I bled quite heavily both times before so always had to double up on pads. I remember asking dh to bring more in each time he visited .

8daisy* - sorry to hear you didn't have a great weekend What is it with these men eh?! Do they not understand that we are very tired, easily irritated, in need of much love and attention and support right now??? Obviously not. I hope things are better for you today.

Gosh you lot are great finding all of these sexy bras. I am not planning on breast feeding so will be resorting back to my normal undies supply. Then again, I have been thinking that I may need to invest in a few sexier ones once I am healed and ready for action after the birth .

Naat · 18/05/2009 17:54

Ladies

Effie updated things on FB from his DH's blackberry, I think.

She says she's getting a second dose of steroids for LO's lungs to mature quickly. They're trying to delay things a bit, as she's about 34wks as far as I remember... but well, as her scar is a pretty sensitive issue, they'll see how things go.

I'll catch up later

(((waves)))

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 18/05/2009 18:18

June - Sorry to hear about 'D'P. What's wrong with these bloody men? Jeez!

choccie - I'm on Naat's friends list. My initials are CA. Add me!

Hope Effie's okay...

LittleSarah · 18/05/2009 18:25

Gosh, just as I begin to calm down about early labour effie goes into labour! Fingers crossed all is going well.

Choccie - I am on Nat's friends list too; Sarah Hunter-Argyle.

Going to try and upload bump pic here, before it goes!

My lecturer emailed about presentation after I sent him panicky email about it being too long and not knowing where to cut, it said:

Hello

'For the presentation try to highlight key points:

The Message (key proposition)
The Target Audience
The Tools (media choice)
The Why (purpose)
After your Introduction & conclusion plus those four key headings you should be fine; please remember that your presentation should be a series of highlights from the report; to answer your question yes you have gone overboard on the presentation!

Hope that this helps; if not please get in touch.'

Just so you know, despite talking about this in lectures, over email and having a 'brief' this simple guide above was not once outlined!

My presentation has those things but done very differently so have been cutting madly... oh well, at least we finally have some clarity!

bigcar · 18/05/2009 18:30

Thanks for the update on effie naat, I'm not on fb and haven't a clue how it works! Hope all's going ok for her!

LittleSarah · 18/05/2009 18:49

Righto, should be a couple of bump pics up now!

daisy5 · 18/05/2009 18:57

Wow - that Isabella Oliver top looks fabulous on you. Really makes your bump look gorgeous.

And your dd's birthday cake is a work of art - I forgot to take a look when you put it up.
