quick question

I mentioned how at the weekend i had period pains, i've not really had any pains since last night but today around 5.30 i started getting pains in my lower back which feels like i've pulled a muscle but the pain comes and goes, not regular tho, does this mean anything or am i worrying over nothing??
Also when i went into town my bump would go hard very regular like braxton hicks do you think the BH's relate to the back pain any?? This is the first time i have had lower back pain so it is causing a bit of worry x

I've had the lower back pain too Laura. I think it's quite normal this late in the day..... do ring the MW if they get a bit more regular tho'...

OP posts:
daisy5 · 18/05/2009 19:06

Ineed - thanks. I know, it is amazing really. How much fuss would dp make if he was 8 months pregnant I wonder!!

laura - Contractions to me were a lot like period pains, as the pain was deep within and also in my lower back. The difference was that they came in waves.....rising, crescendo, ebbing away...and the big giveaway is that they are regular....the first ones I got were half an hour apart...once they get to fifteen minutes apart you are in labour. But as the others said, you will get pains and twinges as well at this stage as body preparing for birth. The first real pains I got were 10 days before dd was born but everyone is different.

Ring your hospital midwifes if you think they may be.

daisy5 · 18/05/2009 19:07

You also get lower back pain if the baby is in posterior position (spine to spine) apparently.

lauraloo09 · 18/05/2009 19:10

thanks ineed and daisy will call midwife if the pains get more regular.

Tee2072 · 18/05/2009 19:13

Beautiful bump littls!! laura I've been having back pain for weeks! As daisy has said, if you're worried, ring the MWs!

I think we're all getting a bit panicked, thanks to effie's possible imminent arrival!!

llynnnn · 18/05/2009 19:15

hi all
Yikes, everyone is so close now. i was wondering when baby will arrive as am 38 weeks tomorrow but have none of the 'first' signs - back ache, bh's, increase discharge etc etc! if anything feel a bit more lively these last couple of days (but that could be down to no more work!!)

silkcushion · 18/05/2009 19:49

omg you've all been very busy - love the fb thing but now even more mental strain trying to remember mn and rl names.

Hope effie is doing ok x

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 18/05/2009 20:40

Hi all,

Laura- much of my last labour started with period type back pains, (which tens helped with alot) and I have been having them intermittantly for a few weeks now maybe 4 or 5 a day.... just waiting for them to get a little more regular

silk -think I'm going to have to write a list of mn names and 'real' names as otherwise I have no chance whatsoever!!!

LittleS- what a nightmare!!!! at least you got some clarification before the presentation..... not much help to your blood pressure today tho' I bet!

Good luck to effie from here too- 34 weeks is so wee.... hope she is doing ok.

bunny -I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and figure that's a good enough reason to go bra shopping (dh has just gone to get the tape measure ha ha ha..... having had a virtually non exisitant sex life for eons he thinks it's christmas). Think I'm going to order a couple in each size then return the unsuitable ones. I've been wearing nursing bras from last time for the whole of this pregnancy but now they are most definitely saggy and baggy ( and a little grey!! )

Daisy- this little one has not been offically engaged at all (at least during a mw appt) but I am convinced that it is bouncing in and out as when I have indigestion my bladder is fine and other times, I have dreadful pressure and need to pee almost hourly! DD2 wasn't engaged until I went into labour last time so I'm not too stressed.

Right just going bra shopping maybe back later...

Naat · 18/05/2009 20:55

Hi Juners!

Quite a chatty day today here There's little chance of remembering everything I read

Daisy So sorry to hear your DH has been anything but helpful. As some Juners said, it's really not what you need right now... I hope things are better now (((hug)))

Laura I sent you an email, check

LittleS your pics are lovely! I totally agree, that IO top looks great on you!!! I can only imagine how fed up you are with all your lecturers by now! Not long to go now, thank GOD!!

Hi bigcar silk ineed ermin tee and the rest of the Juners!!

choccie I'm soooooooo hungry since last week! Constantly hungry! Oh well, it's the last weeks now Great shopping you did!!

June hope you managed to clear up as much as you could today

bunny I agree, MC bras are not nice at all. I loved the hotmilk ones but as my boobs had this weird growth at the beginning and now sort of shrunk I don't know whether I should buy anything new or wait a bit Hope you find something nice!!

mrsmc hope you managed to rest a bit after the wkend you had! Have you heard from your doc re. your birth plan?????

Right, I went to a baby café today with this girl from the AN class who lives nearby and it was really good. It's a drop-in centre some 8 blocks away from home for mums and mums-to-be run by breastfeeding specialists where you can go with questions, doubts, BF problems or just to socialise with other mums. They were really nice and gave us some nice tips and advice. Tomorrow I'm going to an aquanatal class with her as well The wonders of driving ! I don't so I don't move too much

Anyway, thinking of Effie and LO!! Hope you have a nice and quiet night, Juners!

(((waves)))

Naat · 18/05/2009 20:57

X post, doris!
Happy bra shopping!!

lauraloo09 · 18/05/2009 21:00

hiya naat

Thanks for the email will give the info a read. Glad you enjoyed the baby cafe

ermintrude13 · 18/05/2009 21:21

Hello all

Gosh, hope effie is doing OK.

Had my 36 wk MW appt this afternoon and the babe has done as it's told and gone head down and back out. Good baby! . She also handed me a black binbag full of latex gloves, various bits and bobs and a box for sharps. Gulp. I'm counting on there being no sharps!

Doris (very sad to hear you're not really called Doris ) my nursing bras from last time around are looking a bit sad but I'm just going to stick with them at first and get something else when the size settles a bit.

Naat baby cafe sounds just the job

Getting lots of BH here, and crampy pains but it was like this for weeks with last two so I'm not assuming anything. I have to hang on at least a week for home birth anyway, but would love it to be early - I want to see it!

Going to bed with sudoku now. How sad is that? Sleep well everyone.

LittleSarah · 18/05/2009 21:23

Thanks daisy, tee and naat for lovely bump comments!

llynn - I don't remember many signs last time until my waters broke. I've had a few this time but it just gets me paranoid when nothing is really happening! (Ie this morning I had crampy pains in lower pelvis, no idea why, but nothing to do with labour!)

Laura - If not regular I wouldn't worry madam, but I'm not surprised you're feeling uuncertain, so am I and I've done it before. I really don't remember feeling this blinking uncomfy last time!

Doris - Don't think this one is engaged either, although sonographer did say something about head been firmly in pelvis. Bump still high though and not much pressure on the bladder here! You should go and get those bras woman, I will be doing the same next weekend at 38 weeks!

Naat - Your cafe sounds absolutely fabulous, I want one! I saw a mothers and baby group advertised at the Birth Resource Centre and then noticed it was at the same time as the wonderful baby cinema they run at my local arthouse place. I used to go all the time with dd and really looking forward to going again... so I will be looking for another group!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 18/05/2009 21:57

Only meeeeee....

Thanks for the encouragement to spend money guys, like I need any help!!

Have been having a look around the intraweb and thanks to mn and particulaly an old post from littleS have got one from nursingbras.co.uk!! (I did a search which showed up our old thread LOL).

I did however realise like ermin that I would cope with current monstrosities until my milk came in and I settled down a bit, but as I had got rid of all my old night nursing bras (they were really beyond salvation), I have invested in a new one of those instead.

For those of more generous proportion (and planning bf) these are really soft bra/ tops which give you some support and somewhere to stuff the breast pads at night, whilst still allowing you to sleep. (I found the day time bras too uncomfortable). Anyone in doubt put night nursing bra into the nursingbra.co.uk search engine to see what I mean, I throughly recommend at least 1.

Right off to down gaviscon, still thinking of effie and her LO

night all

MrsMcJnr · 18/05/2009 22:17

Hey girls hope you are all well. All hell has broken out here, DH came back from the pub very quickly on Sat night saying that he felt unwell and has been very ill in bed since, fever, shakes, aches and pains, chronic runs. Consequently I have been flying solo with DS since then and have not had more than a couple of hours sleep a night as between them both my boys have been keeping me awake with their antics. I?m shattered but still need to come on here to unwind After all my saying last week that I was ready, I retract that? baby cannot arrive for another week at least!! I have an appointment tomorrow and I have an irrational fear that they?ll not let me go home, silly I know. I need to calm down!! Anyway, how are all of you???

silkcushion · 18/05/2009 22:44

MRSM - what a nightmare - poor you and poor dh. Glad you've come on here for a relax.

You'll be fine tomorrow - but post and let us know you haven't been kept in.

MrsMcJnr · 18/05/2009 23:07

Effielou ? ohhhh how exciting!! Sending you lots of positive vibes!

Major strop alert: please don?t all p** off to FB and tell all your news there I hate it with a passion and don?t want to miss you all from here!

Bigcar ? interesting dream about the cotton wool. I had one last night about wading though a sewer, must be the smell in my flat

June ? hope you enjoyed your party with your friends

Ineedmore ? lovely about the relationship between your DS and his grandpa, very special I loathe FB so you?ll never see me there I?m afraid. Excellent sales on eBay, I only made £45 but it?s better than nothing.

Tee ? hope you are enjoying being off work DH saw Star trek last night but never mentioned any poignant bits!

Snowwombat ? I?m so thick I hadn?t made the connection between the awful mess my waxing made when I was pg with DS and the clexane injections of course!! It?s always so odd hearing about you going into winter when it is starting to get really hot here

Thanks for explaining about the BP mspotatochip mine always rockets when I go to the Drs, classic white coat syndrome. I was 145/65 last check up.

Naat ? glad to hear you have been getting more sleep thanks for keeping us FB-phobes up to date on Effielou nothing from the private Dr at all on the birth plan I won?t be going back to see him I?m lodging copies with the hospital tomorrow so we?ll see what happens there. The baby café sounded fun

Ermintrude ? I think someone has put a hex on my DH, he is so poorly! My MIL has also been drunk every night since she arrived (luckily she?s not staying here yet) I?ve decided to impose an alcohol ban on her and DH, I need them to be sober to help me! Glad to hear that the baby has moved and that all is well

Silkcushion ? thanks for your kind words

LittleS ? hope you are feeling better. My waters broke 15 mins before my DS was born by the way.

Doris ? your Mum does indeed sound like a very useful labour companion!

Hey Lauraloo ? all my pain was in the front with DS but I know lots of people do get back pain (radiating down legs) in labour too.

Blueberry ? sorry to hear that the stress continues with you, how can he tell from an internal if you can or can?t deliver your baby naturally? If he can he must have a rare gift as isn?t that the million dollar question?? hope it is all over for you soon and that it goes much better than you are expecting x

Bunnymother ? sorry to hear about your bad night.

Choccie ? same happened to me with BP after birth, it was very weird.

Daisy ? sorry to hear about your weekend hope you and DP are friends again.

Llynnn ? yay! No more work

Three questions:

Anyone heard of Weleda nursing tea??

Anyone heard of a syndrome when 2nd time (or subsequent) mothers deny to themselves that they are in labour? Apparently it?s quite common

Anyone had any experience with babies with cords around their necks? I am paranoid as I know my baby has this (?nuchal cord? I think they call it)

Thanks

Tee2072 · 19/05/2009 08:10

Good morning all!

mrsmcj don't worry about us all abandoning you for Facebook. You can't really have a discussion there!

I am assuming no news is good news from effie.

I hope everyone had a nice nights sleep. Mine wasn't too bad.

LittleSarah · 19/05/2009 08:41

Doris - Good point about the night nursing bras, I didn't have anything like that last time and generally just slept naked on a towel! Glad you found nursingbra.co.uk, tis a very good site.

MrsMcJnr - Was wondering where you'd got to poor thing! Sounds like it's been a hellish weekend for you, hope dh gets better soon.

My early baby paranoia has eased now, after a weekend of really being OTT about it. I just cannot wait to get this presentation out of the way on Thursday!

Oh, and don't worry about fb, it's not a site for chatting as tee said.

Hope you're well effie!

Hello to everyone else!

Naat · 19/05/2009 08:46

Grrrrr... a bad night here Up for 2hs in the middle of the night. Anyway...

mrsmc poor poor you and your DH. I can only imagine how tired you must feel Did you call the docs to see what DH had or whether he could take some medication for it? Make sure he drinks loads of fluids to avoid dehidration. Hope your MIL gets into "helping mode" soon So sorry to hear abour the private doc Do keep posting, we're here to offer you support (albeit at a distance)

tee glad you had a good rest So, tell us, what are you doing these days as a free woman?

ermin getting ready for your home birth!! How exciting!!

hi silk! how are you?

The news over here is that mum's coming on Sunday-Monday. She's really excited about the trip so keep your fingers crossed for me, ladies, for a smooth visit

Aquanatal today... wow, it's been years since I last stepped in a pool Hope I like it, though, as I'd like to take LO later on

Hope you have lovely mornings, ladies.

effie thinking of you xx
