Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yawning - all these things together are a bit worrying - re pre-eclampsia - I am only aware as it was all the things I was told to watch out for, when I was at an antenatal appointment yesterday. I would ring your MW team or local hospital to get further advice. Best to be on the safe side.

minimenace · 07/05/2009 12:45

Daizy you will need a new t-shirt next week and answerphone message for when all the F&F start calling to ask .... Have you felt anything yet ?

you will be shouting 'STILL NO BABY' !! 'LEAVE ME ALONE'

well hopefully not !!

pulapula · 07/05/2009 13:02

LadyHelen- i think baby blues hit around day 4 or 5 so not surprised you are having a bad day. I hope your MW can reassure you re. the BF.

With my DD my milk took 5 or 6 days to come in- you are on day 5 i think? I remember being very hormonal and crying when it came in so it wouldnt surprise me if yours had come in. I wasn't very engorged with DS- the way i could tell my milk had come in was that i could see a milky dribble in the side of his mouth. Sometime back-arching is a sign of tiredness rather than hunger (especially if LO falls asleep within 30 seconds), so try not to worry that your LO is hungry. If i were you, I would stop or reduce the formula, just so that you can build up your supply.

emmabemmasmom · 07/05/2009 13:28

Hi ladies!

Just a quick one to say hi. Been out and about all day today trying to get HB stuff while DH is off work. Have the midwife coming this afternoon too. Do you think 4 big beach towels and 2 shower curtains are enough???

Pula I got the TENS and thank you so much!!! Going to have the midwife show me how to use it lol

Rosie Call or text anytime. I usually always have my phone near me. Looking forward to it

Sorry for those of you who are fed up and feeling down. Hugs all around!!

Going to lie down while DD naps and will catch up more later.

detsy · 07/05/2009 13:39

Hello ms sulky pants here

TMI alert - had bloody show in middle of night then woke up this morning and freaked out a bit as I could feel something poking out of my fanjo. For one half asleep blurry second I thought it was some sort of baby limb..... Anyway pulled myself together and researched in the bathroom to find a huge pretty solid gloopy mess - YUKSVILLE. Rang the labour ward and they said its just show and not to panic - had a load more since - I must weight at least a kilo less now!!

Keep getting tightenings esp at night but they go after a while but am hopeful after the gloopiness episode!

Jennster Bantam woo hoo - lots of positive labour vibes coming your way - go girls xx

Going for a snoozle now - catch you later

pulapula · 07/05/2009 13:46

OMG Detsy- my show (with DD) was just a bit of bloody mucous when i went to the loo. Sounds delightful! Let's hope things progress soon.

pulapula · 07/05/2009 13:50

emmabemmasmom- glad the tens arrived safely. When you peel the papers off the sticky pads, keep them somewhere as the pads do retain their stickiness for a while and it might save you needing to use my spares (as i've promised the tens to my SIL in june). I did this a few times as i kept going in and out of the bath. Good idea to get your MW to show you how to use the TENS- mine did this for me too. And best to start using it as soon as contractions start, increasing the strength as they get stronger- i've heard this is more effective than waiting and starting later when you feel you really need something.

frazzledoldbag · 07/05/2009 14:06

HI. Sorry didn't get back on yesterday - was my wedding anniversary so was out for dinner (ate a whole bowl of pickled chillies too to try and start things off - no luck!) Also tried a selection of other 'remedies' later on - not sure if I want to admit to them here but one of them involved custard (and so far hasn't worked either)

Anyway, sorry for lowering the tone

jennster labourish vibes to you and also a huge THANK YOU - the cd arrived a few minutes ago. Am thrilled, thanks so much.
bantam labourish vibes to you too x x x

My 2 HotMilk nursing bras also arrived today (my bargains from the Secret Sales) and I'm wearing one now - was worried about ordering the right size but I seem to have got it right - so comfy and very, very pretty. Much nicer than the very frumpy and 'motherly' mono-boob inducing white one I was wearing this morning!!

Detsy I'm hugely optimistic about the amount of 'gloop' coming out of you......surely it will be followed by a baby within the next day or so! Poor you panicking about a bit of baby sticking out though - you must have got a bit of a fright. Perhaps you should try one of my labour inducing tips later to see if it works for you (see above) - I may elaborate if you ask very nicely!!!! Have you another sweep booked? I've got one booked for Tues next week.

I had my scan yesterday morning and the baby is head down although not engaged, so NOT BREECH thank god. Although the m/w did seem to think it may have been breech and turned as I had definitely been feeling all my kicks at the bottom and had then had HUGE alien-like painful whole body movements at 5am yesterday which she said sounded like it turning back again. Anyway, good news is it's the right way up and has been quite quiet today so no more gymnastics and I can still go to the midwife-led unit and have my water birth so very happy about that. Was very worried about having to chose between a vaginal breech and a c/s. Not a choice I'd make lightly.
Ses hope all goes well at your presentation scan too.

DH and I had a lovely time last night - just the 2 of us which doesn't happen all that often and had a good chat and sorted out some issues that have been bugging us both so all good. Also worked out a strategy for DD1 and her anxiety about the amount of attention she'll be getting when the new baby comes along so feeling much better mentally about everything now.

Once again THANKS SO MUCH for the support on here. I honestly thought I was losing the plot last weekend (althoguh in retrospect I think it was exhaustion related) and really appreciated being able to unload.

Sympathies to all having b/feeding issues momino, ladyh and sorry can't remember who else - have been there myself before and fully expecting to re-visit b/feeding trauma very soon. I would (personally) recommend getting as much help as possible - NCT, LaLeche etc as in my experience midwives and HV particularly don't have the time / experince. Especially HV who I've found completely useless in the past when I've needed help.
Also Lansinoh and (controversial I know) nipple shields for a few days are great for keeping going when it gets very sore. (I speak as someone who kept b/feeding despite baby having black stools due to the amount of blood she was swallowing from my nipple trauma while she was feeding - ouch- and I promise the only reason I managed to get through it was by using nipple shields for a couple of days to let them heal a bit). I am still trying to get my hands on a pair of Silverettes which are also supposed to work wonders on painful cracked nipples. Also gettting double checked for a tongue tie is very important as is eating/drinking enough to keep your strength up.

I still don't understand why nature makes it take DAYS for milk to come in??? Seems wrong somehow, and be much easier to get things established properly if it came in straight after birth..............
Right, enough ranting from me I think. Going to have a rest as have been cleaning this morning (although my cleaner was also here!!!) and I too cleaned out the soap dispenser on my washing machine this morning! How odd that we're all doing that.
x

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 07/05/2009 14:15

Just a quick one from me to let you know that I've been admitted .

Scan showed baby is fine but pretty much as awkward as poss! It is oblique breech and footling! Estimated weight of 9lb 5oz. That combined with position and fact that I'm 40 weeks on Sunday, they want to do CS in next 24-48 hrs.

Bit in shock but OMG, I could finally be a mum!!

Belgianchocolates · 07/05/2009 14:19

I'm back from trying this lovely new deli in our village and had a delicious panini followed by a big caramel shortcake thing, mmmm...

Detsy wow, sounds like all the signs point to great things that are about to happen. Lol at you thinking that you thought it was a bit of baby sticking out, but if it's in the middle of the night and you're half asleep that could have happened to anyone

frazzled I also think that nipple shields have a place in bf. I think that if their temporary use helps a woman to carry, while their nipples heal, rather than the woman stopping then they're definitely worth it. I think a lot of mws secretly think they're brilliant for some women, but we daren't say it to the bf mw Oh and talking about those silverettes, I saw a bra in Bravado that had silver thread worked into the fabric. It must work on the same principle.

I've also had a bit more of a show today, but nothing like Detsy's huge thing. (TMI) Just a bit of jelly snotty stuff.

Baby feels huge now and when s/he decides to have a stretch I can feel his/her bum in my ribs and head by my a**e, not nice and a tad worrying about how big it must be (remember my growth scan estimating it at 4.3kg at 40weeks, which is now!). I've also started to run out of clothes that fit me. Things that were OK 2 weeks ago are now too tight. Really speaking I've only got 1 pair of trousers left that fit, anything else is too tight .

Jennster · 07/05/2009 14:19

Well guess who wet herself well and truely this morning. Remember how I couldn't tell first thing if it was water or urine? Definitely Urine. Yuk.

No labour here I'm afraid. Just off to hire a rug doctor. Either I'll waste £40 and start labour, or I'll have nice clean stairs and landing carpets.

I'm pretty glad actually. I really don't want to be induced.

Tummum · 07/05/2009 14:21

Afternoon all.

Dets Belgian and Jenn sending labour vibes your way

LadyH I could have written your post myself yesterday. I BF DD2 but this time G has been so very hungry, that I have resorted to giving him formula in a bottle for a couple of nights when he just wouldn't settle. I know this is against all advice but i got to the pt of just needing to sleep otherwise bonding would have caused an issue. I could have cheerfully slung G out of the window over the last couple of nights when I have been completely exhausted. The good news is that my milk seems to have come in today because G is feeding much better, and chewing less so my poor nips are improving too . I hope you get some decent support from your MW, let us know how you get on.

Frazz great news re: scan and birth plan still on for you. In weird way am slightly jealous of you about to go through labour (esp. in water) as it is such an amazing experience, but that is just my hormones talking !!

Has anyone heard from Looby? Hope she is OK.

Have prob. missed out lots of people so apologies for being a bit rubbish at the mo.

DH goes back to work on Monday and I am already pannicking. How the flip am I going to cope with 3 DC?!! I think I need to eat some cake while contemplating what our new routine might look like... utter chaos will reign no doubt.

Belgianchocolates · 07/05/2009 14:22

Oh, no ses how naughty of your baby. Don't worry too much about your c/s it'll be semi-planned and the athmosphere will be lovely and relaxed. Good luck for the next few days xxx

That reminds me frazzled your scan must have been such a relief. The home from home unit sounds lovely. Lets hope your lo behaves from now on and stays in the right position

Jennster · 07/05/2009 14:22

Ses Good luck with the CS. At least you know now. We'll all be thinking of you.

Tummum · 07/05/2009 14:24

OMG Ses how exciting and nervous making too. Hope it all goes OK for you.

ANd Jenn have fun with the rug dr... sounds like nesting to me !

Belgianchocolates · 07/05/2009 14:26

Lol tum I fear utter chaos will reign in my household soon too. My mum came to help me with the dcs and is going on mon (better have had this lo by then) and dh had taken quite a few weeks off too and his leave is running out in 10 days, so by the time lo is here all help will have dissapeared and I'll be on my own with 3 dcs. HELP!!! Hope baby G's feeding will get better from now on too.

frazzledoldbag · 07/05/2009 14:35

Ses sorry to hear your baby is breech - hope you're ok. As you say, at least you're going to be a mummy in the next 24-48 hours though! Best of luck with the C-section and look forward to hearing all about it and your new LO. x

tummum - sympathy about the needing to sleep and having a starving baby and milk not in - it's a nightmare and I think giving a little bit of formula in order to preserve your sanity is very sensible. Glad your milk is now in and your nips are feeling a bit better. WELL DONE YOU!
Can't believe you're jealous of me going through labour though, having just recently done it yourself! Bet you wouldn't be jealous if you could see me yelling my head off in transition! Your labour must have been a really lovely one though if you'd be happy to do it again so soon. My last labour was 2.5 yrs ago and I don't really want to do it again - oops. But last time wasn't a waterbirth so hopefully this one will be nicer

I too am panicking about the 3 DC thing - I reckon eating lots of cake will definitely help (plus not stressing out and being relaxed about how messy the house will get). How are you finding a boy after 2 girls? Take care of yourself.

Jael · 07/05/2009 14:44

Hiya all.

congratulations to aquababe and 1MrsF!

Still not good here I'm afraid, I got rushed into hospital by ambulance yesterday, turns out I'm allergic to the meds the MW gave me to clear up my CS scar infection. It affected my breathing, my heartrate was going all over the place so DP had to phone 999. Was very scary. I'm back home again now, and generally fed up. I'm in and out of hospital. Jacob is 1 week old today, I still feel like I haven't bonded with him, as I'm not getting to do everything, most of the day I'm having to stay in bed and have him passed to me, my CS scar is so sore I just want to look after my baby...I'm worried about him because he's still jaundice, I have no clue on jaundice at all, but the whites of his eyes keep going yellow too, and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that can mean problems with the liver or kidneys or something...I'm so fed up. Sorry for going on and on again, I've just really had enough. I want to be painfree and start looking after him properly. DP is having to do everything, and then when he goes back to work, i'll have to take over, and what if Jacob doesn't settle with me cuz his dads having him so much now?

Tummum · 07/05/2009 14:45

Frazz well, boys have, well, strange bits !! It's very odd when you are used to 2 DDs. And the projectile poo-ing / weeing everywhere is pretty amusing too. Top tip imparted to me is pop a sock / wipe on his winkie when changing nappy otherwise you get a bit of a fountain gush everywhere! Not really sure what I am doing yet but TBH he's a baby just like the other 2 were so I haven't really thought of him differently. Just hope he isn't influenced by me calling him a "good girl" all of the time as I'm just not used to having a blue one !

sausagenmash · 07/05/2009 14:47

Ses - how exciting! Good luck, and also lots of luck and labour vibes to everyone else!

Had to use the dado rail down our hallway to get around last night, pains down below were so bad - got a bit scared - had a small glass of wine (seemed like a good idea) and went really hot and hot flushy. Lots of tummy wonk-ness today. God, am getting fed up, and I've got ages to go. Belgian - huge sympathies!

CoteDAzur · 07/05/2009 14:58

Hi everyone. I have bittersweet news - Bad news is that uric acid is increasing in my blood and is already above normal range. Good news is that my elCS date is now 25 May (if hyperuricemia doesn't get much worse) or 20 May (if it gets worse). If results of tomorrow's blood test come back significantly worse, there is even a chance that I will be hospitalised by next Wednesday, baby's lungs matured over 48 hours, followed by CS a week from now.

Which brings me to the subject of swollen hands and feet. I was induced several days before term last time, for the same reason (high uric acid in blood) where symptoms were swollen fingers and ankles. So I asked for the test. Sure enough, it was quite high. I saw the consultant today and not only did he bring my elCS date forward, but told me to have blood tests every two days to monitor hyperuricemia.

momino, in your place, I would ask for a blood test to see exactly why you still have oedema at your ankles. Better to be safe than sorry.

Tummum · 07/05/2009 15:01

Oh Jael sounds thoroughly and totally awful, so wonder you are feeling flipping fed up. I really really hope that this is the end of the health nasties for you. Just wanted to send massive (((Hugs))). Also it is really important that you talk to your MW / DP about how you are feeling because you will need loads of emotional support as well as physical support through this tough time. Take care of yourself.x

Jael it sounds awful- I feel so sorry for you. Try not to worry about Jacob not settling with you as he is spending so much time with his dad- remember he has been hearing your voice for 9 months and knows you are his mum. Hope you both feel better soon

Ses, sorry to hear baby is in such a tricky positio but how exciting that you will be a mum in the next 48 hours!

Reading about the problems people are having BF and all the good advice/support that is being posted makes me very glad I discovered MN- it's great to know I can come here for reassurance if needed once my baby arrives.

pulapula · 07/05/2009 15:03

tummum- lol i kept calling my DS "good girl" all the time at first- and i still get it wrong sometimes even now, after nearly 2 years!

jael- gosh sounds like you are having a really difficult time. Very scary for you and your DH to have to be rushed to hospital. Please don't worry about bonding with Jacob and being worried he won't settle with you- babies have a very short-term memory and will soon get used to the new routine. Even though i wasn't bedbound, in those early days with DS after my cs i only did the BF bit and some of the settling - DH did all the nappies, clothes changes, winding and passing him to me, so please don't get too down about not doing everything- you will be helping him by getting yourself better first- i've heard that if you rush the recovery from a cs it can take even longer. Are you still seeing your MW regularly? I think someone needs to check how serious J's jaundice is. The best thing is to strip him off (to his vest if its warm enough) and put him in a bright spot (near a window, patio doors etc) whilst he sleeps or just lies there. The sunlight will really help. My DS had the yellow eyes thing too and it cleared up within a few days. Are you BF him- if so that will help his jaundice too.
