hi all. love all the talk on stitches, poos, piles, farts ... really made me (sometimes uncomfortably), all the attractive bodily things in pregnancy. did manage to get some moist wipes for the piles (i think emmabemmasmom mentioned this?) and after poos, hope they help.

jael and MrJael, many congrats on the arrival of baby Jacob, I'm very happy for you! I hope Jael feels better soon.xx

llare, gorgeous pics of George! made me cry too.

Pula, i agree with the others in that if the professionals are comfortable with the timing and you are as well, go for it.

Hope all others are ok today.

Had my 40wk mw appointment today including sttrrrrettch and sweeeeeeep. it wasn't too bad as i practised my breathing exercises and visualised being on a beach (no kidding!) - it did help a lot as did my lovely MW who explained everything she was doing. i told her that i'd had a show almost 2 weeks ago, d/charge in between, low period pains almost daily for a couple of weeks, etc. but she just said baby i guess hasn't been ready (duh) and hopefully the S&S will work. also to eat something to clean out bowels (yum) so we're having curry tonight. baby's head is 'fixed' (she didn't say 'engaged' though ) so i hope, hope i'm not going to go too much over my due date (today). sigh.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/05/2009 15:36

Oh this thread is lovely, isn't it? Poo, farts, wee, stitches, piles.

And cake

Jennster - get DD enrolled in Mensa now

Fi the farting strikes me most in homeware. Not sure why, but possibly less repulsive than if it was in a food aisle. God, it's embarrassing.

Re pancakes, I keep a sealed jar of the dry mix and make up the batter with an egg & milk as and when - my 2 like sliced banana and melted chocolate with theirs, but I like Golden Syrup. Mmmmm.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/05/2009 15:39

Hi momi x-posts there! Hope things progress for you now and you don't go too far over .

Momino · 01/05/2009 15:39

ladieswhohavehadbabes and didn't know sex before - do you remember what the heart rates were like upon checks? I'm really curious to see if the guessing game based on lower heart rate for boys is correct.

I asked my MW about this today (she thinks I'm having a girl, don't know why) who said it's prob an od wive's tale. apparently, my babe's heartbeat has been about 140 througout and was about 150 today - what would my guess be then?

My guess is that is a girl but maybe because I can't imagine having a boy after 2 DDs. what would i do with all the pink clothes?

Momino · 01/05/2009 15:42

pancakes, love them, love them. usually make my own but my sis brought over some lovely pancake mixes (wholegrain, buttermilk, etc) from america so can't wait to partake. i'm a maple syrup fan myself so need to get some - it's just so expensive.

flippineck · 01/05/2009 15:42

lol grumpy and momino - re poos, farts, wee, stitches, piles and cake: definitely important things to be aware of during pregnancy. Cake especially!

Belgianchocolates · 01/05/2009 16:11

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on for nearly 2 days and it's taken me nearly an hour to catch up with what, 5 pages of stuff! DH keeps making fun of me because I go on MN every day, but I have to just to keep track!

First of all a big congrats to Mr and Mrs Jael. I hope Jael is doing well now and that those strange migraines will go soon.

llare Nice to read your birth story. Sounds like it went quick and well all of a sudden. You're right: us midwives always get strangely excited when labouring women suddenly need a poo You've clearly done brilliantly with your GD as well: an average sized lo and good blood sugars. So well done with it all. Oh and thanks for your complement you made me , lol.

I also hope Mrschocbunnies is having a wonderful day today.

I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting to wish lots others good luck today or to congratulate them, but I've already forgotten half of what I've read

The main thing that's stuck is that I'll really have to try Blotted's cakes both the jaffa and the bakewell I can't at the mo because of the SPD making me almost immobile, but after lo is born and we're settled I'll get baking again, because I do like baking .

stitches I had stitches with both of the others and barely remember them being done. Both times I had a local anaesthetic and all I remember feeling was a tugging sensation. Afterwards they were not that painful. Nothing that regular paracetamol for a few days couldn't sort out. The thought of the 1st poo with them in place was worse than the actual act. The best advise really was to go as soon as as I felt I needed to go and not to hold back or you get constipated, oh and plenty of water and fibre off course. It really made a difference actually following the advice 2nd time around

Euromum I completely understand why you'd want to go straight for an epidural. I always feel a bit sorry for mums in Belgium, because there's not intermediate pain relief option (except for water). Here in the UK, you've got gas and air to help you, or pethidine, but in Belgium no epidural means no pain relief at all and that's very brave I think

Looby great to hear you're back home. Try not to get too focussed on lo's wait gain. Als long as she's healthy, weeing and pooing it doesn't matter that much that baby is following the curve, as long as there's some weight gain and no loss you're doing brilliantly

I didn't come on MN yesterday, because I felt all day feeling absolutely rubbish. Lots of BH, bowels feeling funny tired etc... I spent nearly all day in bed napping. I really thought something was happening and DH came home just in case (as he's all the way away in Kent), but then overnight it all stopped. However since baby has really gone down a lot and today at the mw appt she could barely feel the head anymore and I probably TMI had a feel down below to see if I could feel what my cervix was doing and the head is just right there and the cervix is nearly effaced and about 1.5-2cm dilated, so something is happening, but just not labour yet. This afternoon those BH have recommenced, but who knows what will happen. I just know that nothing really exciting will happen until my waters go.

Right, in the mean time there must have been about a hundred x-posts. So I better click post now. It's long enough as it is

Belgianchocolates · 01/05/2009 16:13

Oooh, no x-posts? No one here at the mo. I'm surprised. You've all been busy so far.
Right, I'm off finding pics of llare and spangle and any other baby's I've missed.

Momino · 01/05/2009 16:20

belgian, i'm in/out with my sister and amusing the DDs. had my MW appt today too and desperately wanted her to tell me i was dilated x cm but she didn't. i'm so afraid i'll go very overdue. but no use worrying until i need to.

am going off mn now until later. see you soon.

sausagenmash · 01/05/2009 16:25

OMG Belgian - self diagnosis of cervix-y stuff - that's amazing!!

I keep skimming all the cake talk I'm afraid - I am a completely hopeless cook. Last time I tried to make a cake, my brother said it was like chocolate chewing gum Mind you, I was about 14 at the time. Ok, ok, will write down all the ingredients, get dp to get them when he does the shop tomorrow, and try and make the jaffa one. Is it on Blotted's blog?

Belgianchocolates · 01/05/2009 16:27

momino They don't tend to do internals unless it's needed or for a sweep. But because I'm a mw I can do it myself although I could do with slightly longer arms .

llare Baby G is gorgeous and he looks like a real boy too.

I can't find Looby's new pics, am I looking in the wrong place?

Spangle Baby H has changed so much already in his 1st month. He's lovely and looks like he's really filling out now too.

Belgianchocolates · 01/05/2009 16:35

Oh no, my bump pictures have arrived. I'm scared of opening the envelope. I don't want to see myself, half naked and in big size,...

Oh and at Figleaves. I know a 36FF isn't tiny, but did they really have to send the 1 bra I've ordered in an enormous box, that could hold about 10 bras. I feel bad enough about the size of my boobs without that.

FiKelly · 01/05/2009 16:38

just back from the vet now armed with douglas's new medication and prescription diet. ds fell asleep in the car so for the first time in many months I had to carry him upstairs into our flat. I thought he'd wake up half way up the stairs like normal but today he stayed asleep the whole way.. I popped him onto his bed and he's still asleep now. will let him have a while more as I've potatoes to par boil for tea.

momino we're definitely having a girl this time.. scan at 36wks was V clear. this LO's heart rate has been 135/145 most of the time.. can't remember what ds was. so we're definitely not following the ow prediction..

belgian sounds like things are gearing up! [exciting emoticon]

grumpy lol at the homeware section rather than food! mine are anywhere and at anytime!

right off to peel some tatties back in a bit..

euromum · 01/05/2009 16:50

Hi all - another 2 pages since I was here this morning! Think I may just have to become a full-time mner!

Belgian sorry to hear about the spd, it sounds really nasty. Impressive self-checking though - and it sounds like the baby can't be far off surely (can't remember your due date I'm afraid). I hope you're feeling better soon anyway. And thanks for your comments re epidurals in Belgium, I do feel like a bit of a wuss as I am usually quite a brave and determined person when facing something unpleasant - even though I know it's not actually pathetic to feel like that, it's nice to hear someone else say it! Think I will just go with the flow and see where I get, you can't really hope for more than that anyway.

emmabemmasmom I am having exactly the same sort of ambiguous/unpleasant feelings about having dc2 and am sure it's really normal. I quite often have these flashes of "oh no I don't really want this one after all". I have been trying to keep it all in perspective as I think it seems to be linked to tiredness and general hormonal mood swings, but sometimes it just all seems like a huge mistake. But then with dd, although I felt rested and 'ready' just before she was born, basically once she arrived I was just making it up as I went along and everything has turned out fine (perfect in fact, she is a total darling and I would never have imagined how much fun parenthood would be). So I guess it's just the same idea (but different of course!) with the second. I hope you can manage not to worry too much and enjoy your last days/weeks just with your dc1 (sorry can't remember if ds or dd ).

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 01/05/2009 17:00

OMG ladies. Waters have just gone! Went upstairs for a nap. Big gush. Am still gushing, Its like a tidal wave. All clear. On way in to hosptial, as soon as mum gets here to look after DS, to have it checked out. Its def waters though. NO doubt about that! Just waiting for those ctrx to start. May well be sent home again if nothing happens. Wish me luck!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/05/2009 17:07

LadyHelen All the best!

Tummum · 01/05/2009 17:13

Belgian am weirdly that you can figure out what is going on and how close to labour you might be ! Sounds v. promising though. Have you opened your photograph envelopes yet?!

Euromum and EBsmom re: having a 2nd, I think 2nd time around we all have the same feelings of worry about how the new LO will fit in, but it is amazing how you get more love with more children, and it's such a wonderful experience for your LOs to meet, because you know they will be there for each other and love each other as well as you loving them IYKWIM. It's just a shame you don't get more time as well as more love to deal with more DC....

Blotted will be baking jaffa cakecakecake tomorrow !

Good news about my parachute bra purchase... the size means I can get one of those Anita bras. Yay ! Will hold off until my milk comes in though.

The bad news today is that the Nanny's car has broken down badly and she probably needs a new car (part of the deal is that we buy the car for her.) Nightmare and exactly what we could do without right now... expense and hassle all around. Nanny is also really upset and DH cross (he thinks it is Nanny's fault) so I have spent most of the day trying to difuse arguments and phone car garages, sigh. I guess what my weekend is going to consist of traipsing around car garages now. Deep joy. Oh well, I suppose it might bring on labour !

Tummum · 01/05/2009 17:14

Yay, ladyhelen Not at all . Good luck. Soooooo exciting

tummum I've opened the pic, had a quick look and closed it again It's one of the ones with the gauzy material around me and a bright white background. My mum thinks the background is too white, I don't think she gets the point of arty pics . I'd also asked for her opinion when I was choosing, no one seemed to help me pick a pic and so now they can't really say much, can they?

SpangleMaker · 01/05/2009 17:30

Good luck ladyhelen won't be long now!!

Belgian sounds like you won't be too long either. Ooh it's all getting so exciting now!

Blottedcopybook · 01/05/2009 17:36

Grumpy Thanks petal

Pula My DD was born at 37w3d and was 100% fine, don't panic

Febes Thank you! Blogging is so cathartic for me because I'm such a moany cow the rest of the time and have to be relentlessly cheery on there

spangle Hooray for 1lb in a week! Is that on boobjuice too?

Llare Your wee family is just adorable!

Fi Heh! I only manage because my DCs are excellent sleepers and my DH does far more than his fair share around the house. Today has been pretty grim because DS2 is very poorly and had to go to hospital, but DS1's Granny (x-DH's Mum) came up to watch DS1 and DD to let me go so I don't feel quite as pressured as I normally might have. DS1 is away home with Granny, DS2 is having a lie down and DD is asleep now so I'm recuperating (with a 140g bar of Dairy Milk and a bottle of M&S pink lemonade!)

Also - I was just thinking about Douglas. How did you get on at the vet?

Jennster Wow! Clever DD - how old is she?

Sausage Yeah the recipe is on my blog, it's a couple of posts down but it's seriously simple if you have a hand blender or food processor, you just weigh everything, mix it up and stick it in a tin.

Helen Hooray! Good luck!

CoteDAzur · 01/05/2009 17:56

Good luck ladyhelen!

pulapula · 01/05/2009 17:58

Thanks blotted and fikelly for the reassurance that your LOs were fine at 37 or 38 weeks. I guess I will just feel responsible if there are any health problems as it is my choice to go for early delivery. My last cs was my choice so i feel like i've taken myself down a path which probably could have been avoided. But hopefully all will be well and its exciting to know its only 11 days away now .

sausagenmash · 01/05/2009 18:00

Blotted - soz, whats your blog address again?

Wooooooh LadyHelen! omg how exciting!

We're all going to have to check in EVERY DAY now, as I'm sure we will be having constant news!!
