HomeintheSun · 30/04/2009 20:40

Hi I hope everyone is doing ok, and all those with bad ms I hope it passes quickly. Congratualtions weston on the good scan result. I've had such a tough day, DS has been like a devil child, he flips between running riot and the throwing tantrums, he's also got temporary deafness, ie can't hear me asking him things but can hear the biscuit packet being opened. All I've wanted to do is go to sleep but now it's late in the evening over here and I'm not tired, think I'd better go to bed though, I've got toddler group to go to tomorrow.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 30/04/2009 20:42

Hi everyone. I haven't managed to post much on these threads but have skimmed through as much as I can - congrats to all those with good scan results

I had mine last week, all was fine, though it took over an hour as the baby was jumping around so much the sonographer couldn't get the nuchal measurement for ages.

Can someone remind me (I've forgotten everything from pg with ds ), is folic acid no longer necessary past the first trimester? I think I took multi-vits the whole way through last time but are they really necessary?

Sympathy to all those still with ms - me too, even though I'm almost 14 weeks.

Lissyglitter, do you mean your nuchal scan? I would def ring the midwife tomorrow - it should be done between 11-13 weeks ideally. How many weeks are you?

hobnob57 · 30/04/2009 20:43

Pootle I think I stopped at 12 weeks last time because the blasted things made me retch and DD was fine...

Discovered another long-forgotten pregnancy symptom today has re-emerged - the need to reach into your bra in give those newly-inflated boobs a good scratch during the day (in a discreet place!).

Anyone....?

LissyGlitter · 30/04/2009 20:55

hobnob yep I get that!

fattipuffs I'm 11 weeks, 12 on monday

ursigurke · 30/04/2009 21:02

Pootle - I had asked my midwife about stopping folic acis at 11+6 and she said I should take it for another week. But I have also read somewhere that you can take it throughout your pregnancy as it is good for building cells. And I think, in pregnancy-multivitamins it is always included.
I wanted to start taking multivitamins as I am not sure if I am eating healthily enough but the ones I've bought are just terribly big, I don't want to swallow them. Does anyone know nice little ones?

LissyGlitter · 30/04/2009 21:08

I've taken one folic acid tablet this entire pregnancy I just don't see the point if I'm just gonna sick it back up again. Isn't bread and cereal enhanced with it nowadays anyway? The doctor had to be reminded to give it to me so it can't be THAT important.

Laugs · 30/04/2009 21:26

Pootle it is just the first 12 weeks that you are recommended to take it for and, as far as I understood, continuing to take it after that point has no added protection against spina bifida, though there's no harm in continuing if you want to.

I love your name BTW - DD loves the Flumps. We were at a wedding recently at this posh old place with lots of antique furniture. It obviously reminded her of the story about the secret packet in the desk and she kept on singing 'Can you keep a secret? SHH' very loudly ad at inappropriate moments.

HomeintheSun sorry to hear about your tough day. Toddlers just don't understand that we need to rest, do they? Today DD was entertained ALL day until 3.30pm (nursery this am, then toddler group this PM). Even still, she wouldn't let me sit and have a cup of tea for 10 minutes when we got home without running riot, tearing things up and drawing all over the little trampoline. Grr... (Hope you're getting some sleep now, by the way)

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 30/04/2009 21:29

Oops x-posted with pootle.

Yep I'm getting the itchy breasts too! Plus another nice side-effect is c-section scar seems to be irritated and itchy - maybe rapidly inflating belly is pushing it out?

Ah, being pregnant's great isn't it

pinkfizzle · 30/04/2009 21:47

To add to the chorus of ms sufferers, i hear you all, i will be 14 weeks tomorrow and the ms is unrelenting with a 3 am start every day.

So to be pregnant but so to be sick.

my dh got the vitamin low down from the mw as he is a vitamin freak, he discussed pregnacare multivitamins with her as something to take throughout and to avoid vitamin A.

My fantasy is that i get over this ms and back throw a cup cake party ... instead of throwing up.

lemontop · 30/04/2009 21:52

Hi all

I'm 13 weeks today and nausea seems to have totally gone but am really worn out with tiredness. I think my sleep pattern is partly to blame. I wake up at 2am, 4am..can't sleep till six, then it's time for work and I just can't get out of bed. I'm teaching full time and also finding it knackering being on my feet all day. God knows what I'm going to be like when I'm massive. If all goes well I'm planning to work up till the October half term which is 12 days before I'm due!

On the other hand it's quite nice people at work knowing now. Everyone keeps asking 'are you ok?'. Someone even offered me a seat on the train today. Maybe a coincidence.

I went out for dinner last night and met up with some friends, one of whom is pregnant. I asked her about when she felt the baby moving and she said about 16 weeks. That's only 3 weeks away! (although I know it depends on individual etc)

Still got spots and have developed a totally gross need to spit all the time (sorry sorry tmi)

It's all glamour glamour glamour!

helips · 01/05/2009 07:17

Morning everyone, it's scan day today, woo hoo! It's not till 3pm so will update you all later.

hobnob my midwifes are independent midwifes and have a lot of experience with vbacs. I'm keeping an open mind and am aware that I possible will end up going to hospital but will give it my best shot! also, the hospital is only a 5 min drive away. Have you discussed going to a midwife led unit? I think one of my friends is planning a vbac in one.

better go, ds is trying to log me off, will check in again later, hope everyone is well....

ursigurke · 01/05/2009 08:04

helips - good luck for you and everybody with a scan today.
lemontop - I know that problem with being on my feet all day. Work in a café and can only manage 5 hours shifts, occasionally longer but couldn't do it on a regular basis. Husband got me a "baby on board"-badge for the tube. So far it worked once (which made me almost cry, stupid pregnancy hormones) but most people seem to be veeery interested in their newspapers.

skorpion · 01/05/2009 08:50

Good morning all, what a lovely day today!

helips - good luck with the scan today.

I think my hormones have gone loopy for good, woke up in a foul mood, snappy at DH for stupid grins and jokes about cows (I think he's quite excited about boobs...) and then on my way to work nearly cried with feeling of euphoria at the beautiful day! PMS squared.

I hope you all have a good day.

scarlotti · 01/05/2009 08:56

Morning and good luck to helips for your scan.

Nausea has pretty much gone now although I do seem to still get a bit in the evening. Needless to say that's putting paid to any other nocturnal activities!

I too forgot all the folic acid Lissyglitter so I wouldn't worry. I figure I eat enough broccoli anyway ...
Maybe it's because it's no. 3 - I've hardly read any books or website this time around either!

lemontop · 01/05/2009 10:51

Ugh. I woke at 5 this morning so decided to leave early and was all positive about the day till my teenage students decided to play up big time and I ended up having to diffuse a fight and give them a massive lecture. Had a secret cry in my office in the break Think I'm quite emotional too but they don't help matters.

sleeplessinthecity · 01/05/2009 10:57

For all of you with their nausea gone but also very very pleased for you..hope you all get some well deserved lovin from your DHs and DPs...

I haven't taken anything this time round..anything that goes in comes out..whether its a pill or a suppository! So am waiting for the sickness to subside before starting my vits..my iron was low last time and is suspect this to be the case this time too as I so go off eating meat and spinach when pg.

Had another lovely dream about an ex..sigh..
Also i caved in and let my DH book his flight to the wedding in Ibiza which is ON MY BIRTHDAY and when i'll be 35 weeks. I know I know..I'm an idiot. but I don't see the point in both of us being upset.

BTW has anyone used a Mat nurse before?

pedalmonster · 01/05/2009 12:43

Hello all- glorious day and arent' we lucky to be nearing the end of the ms days...!
sleepless nice that you are feeling better now, good for you.
Lissy phone the mw!!! if you want / need some screening tests they need to be done early!
skorpion don't worry about snapping at DP/DH - that is what they deserve for their part in it all!! I woke up at 4.30 at DH due to a dream - he had hidden my imaginary daughter in a box - for 4 years - and I was fuming! I could not even look him in the eye this morning I was so . LOL.
Helips and those with scan today, Good Luck!
pinkfizzle I love the idea of a cupcake party - I think I shall have one too (when I can get back into the kitchen without retching).
Will try to update the list now as I dont seem to see one on this thread... it may take a while - don't move to part 4 while I am gone!

LissyGlitter · 01/05/2009 13:04

I just rang the midwife, and they didn't seem concerned at all. apparently my first appointment is on the 20th of may...I'm sure they saw me at 8 weeks for booking in and 12 weeks for a scan....

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/05/2009 13:26

Hello everyone! Wow we are a chatty lot...

LissyGlitter am I right in thinking you won't get a 12-weeks scan? That is quite unusual nowadays isn't it?

I dreamt last night that DH was sat in the garden and just casually announced to me 'I've resigned from work, oh, and I've got three months to live'. In my dream I was so mad at him for just dropping it like that without telling me beforehand (for some reason concern for his prognosis didn't enter my dreaming brain). So I woke up and had a go at him for being so insensitive and secretive. He just laughed at me.

I'd better do some work now...

Tamlin · 01/05/2009 13:37

Lissy, it sounds as if you'll have to go private asap if you want a nuchal or you'll miss your window of opportunity. Your midwives do sound quite odd to me, they're supposed to ask you about testing for thalassaemia and sickle cell at ten weeks, and in most areas, you do get a dating scan...

pedalmonster · 01/05/2009 14:14

ok - here goes - hope I havent forgotton anyone - or even worse - kept someone in accidentally . This was last updated around 22 April!!! So have had to read about 1000 threads!

Ninjacat · 01/05/2009 14:23

I won't see my midwife until wk12. They said it just can't be helped as they are busy but that it doesn't matter. They do offer a dating scan but not if you've had an early scan, suppose it just depends where you are in the country.

I have managed to slope back onto the sofa after not leaving my bed yesterday but have been really knocked for six by this bug.

Apparently Vit B6 is good for morning sickness (if you can keep it down)

Good luck with all scans.

Ninjacat · 01/05/2009 14:47

We have lost a couple more than that I'm afraid. I do hope it's the right thing to do but I've updated the list a little knowing I wouldn't want to still be on it if the worst should happen.
Feeling very sad for those we have lost and hoping all will be well for them in the future

Koumak · 01/05/2009 15:04

Hi girls,
I haven?t been on here for few weeks as we moved and had to take a week off as was feeling complete shite and hoping I am not getting SPD. It took me a long time to catch up!
Just found out that we had (till this morning) a gas leak in the flat we just moved into! So I am panicking now as was bed ridden there all week last week!
Will try to ring the doctor to see what she can tell me.
Anybody please tell me the baby is going to be fine!

pedalmonster · 01/05/2009 15:17

Oh koumak baby will be just fine - he/ she is nice and safe and getting all the toxins filtered out by YOUR system. You probably just need lots of fresh air and water to clear your liver - but Baby will be fine!
nija thanks for updating - its so sad

Ok all have a lovely weekend - no MS and hope everyones toddlers play nicely with DH / DP and let mummy rest!
