Just had a lovely yomp in the woods with DD and DH, and we'll be depositing her at granny's for the night to give us a bit of a lie in tomorrow for the holiday. Bliss!

As others have said, MS is pretty much away now as long as I eat according to my timetable, but I have found myself having a good 2 hour nap in the afternoons whilst DD is down. Speaking of which, she's due hers about now

Hope you all manage a good weekend and holiday Monday, if you get it off work.

Ideeanna my scan is on Tueday too and I'm trying hard not to think about it or else I will freak out. I haven't had a scan since 7 weeks and so much can happen in that time. I'll be nearly 13. Fingers crossed for us all. Don't think about the lack of heartbeat thing - find a nice distraction!

ldeeanna · 03/05/2009 13:56

What do you mean Belgianbun..... Im terrified-what happens?!!!! He was but maybe not after you tell me whatever it is that happens!

BeckyBL Dont drink loads of water-you dont have to-when I went for mine at 9.4 I had had a little bit of water but no more than usuall and she didn't have a problem with finding the baby! So don't make yourself uncomfortable!!Good luck though!! And about the bedroom thing-you are not alone!!! And cleaning-but i'm very hormonal and cross- so I am on strike as DP has no respect for what Ive just tidied up-so Im going to let him see how bad it can get without me!! Moo ha ha (evil laugh)!!

ldeeanna · 03/05/2009 14:04

Thanks Hobnob! Im sure we will all be fine!! Have my moments of morbidness but Im going to keep positive!!

Had the biggest row with DP this morning-he wants to go to Amsterdam with his female BF in late July-I will be nearly 6 months-we are skint coz of the business and it means I will have to work all day without a break for 5 days in a row! And he said -Its his last chance of freedom-I must be mistaken but I thought it was a nice thing to have a family-not a prison sentance!! And-sorry-whats wrong with going away with me?!!! My hormones cant take this at the moment! Really sorry no one else to rant to!!

Ninjacat · 03/05/2009 14:24

Ideeanna would it shock you to know that lots of ladies ahhem, shall we say "move their bowels" during delivery?
Not that DP will notice or remember as it honestly will be the last thing on your mind and it really is only one of many bodily fluids he'll be familiar with after your labour.
With DS I was throwing up as well.

You leave your dignity at the entrance to the hospital and pick it up again on the way out.

And if your dp is the good sort he'll love you all the more for seeing what you've been through and realise just how much of a lady you truly are.

Ninjacat · 03/05/2009 14:32

Sorry I cross posted with you Ideeanna.
You deserve all the support you need.
I think your DPs freedom idea is probably baddly worded.
Sometimes when we really want to do something we find it difficult to have to deal with other peoples feelings that might go against what we are planning and can feel quite resentful because all though we know what's right we really just want to do what we want any way.
Can you arrange something nice for yourself that weekend? I find if you don't stand in their way but show them you have a life of your own they sometimes rethink their ideas.

ldeeanna · 03/05/2009 15:09

Oh my goodness-how common is that? My mum said she had it all flushed out before-has that been stopped now?!!! He is the sort that finds poo things really funny and he will deal with his embarrasment by taking the p*!
Ive calmed down now-I dont mind him going in better circumstances-I just wish he had got it out of his system before I got pregnant! I wont be able to do things at the same time because we have a shop together and I'll have to run it while he's away. The reason im cross is because it is two floors and quite a lot to cope with on your own at the best of times!
Thank you Ninjacat!! Why is it that a lot of ladies are sick-I dont mind being sick by the way!! Is it because of the pain-i'd rather be prepared so not afraid of the answer!! And I heard that your hips dislocate the other day-is this true for all women?!!! Sory Ninjacat-using you instead of miriam stoppard at the moment!!!

OP posts:
Ninjacat · 03/05/2009 15:38

Looking after the shop does sound like a big deal to do on your own let alone being 6mths pg. Could you draft in a friend or family member?

I don't know about the flushed out thing? I know I wasn't, was any one else ?

The being sick for me was brought on because the mw forced me to eat a ham sandwich for energy (was in labour a very long time and did not eat for 48hrs) which of course came straight back up with the next contraction. I suppose it's like having your stomach squeezed, the contents will go up or down.

I doubt your dp will be taking the piss when you're in labour, he's more likely to be s***g himself.

I've not really equated this pg with labour yet. That bit all feels nice and far away for me. Looking forward to the summer though.

ldeeanna · 03/05/2009 15:48

I know getting a bit ahead of myself!! I'll just have to warn him about it-and tell him 2 behave!! Cant get a family member or friend coz we moved away from Reading and now live in Truro-but that is a good point actually maybe my mum could come and stay-she might like to look after me!!! I'll remember to avoid sandwiches then!!! Thank you for all your advice!!
I'd better do something....but I really cant be bothered!!!!
Liking peanut butter on toast, fruit, honey and yoghurt at the moment-gone off chocolate-been waiting to go off chocolate all my life!! Oh and tomatoes, tomatoes in pasta, on toast, out of a tin, anything!! Anyone else getting stronger cravings-and are they naughty or healthy?!

Tamlin · 03/05/2009 15:56

They don't give women routine enemas any more, so if you labour fast you do wind up pooing while you push. I remember doing our hospital tour with dh the first time around, and all the husbands were quiet and respectful except for mine. He was cheerily poking around the birthing pool room, and came up with this sieve-thing: 'Hey! It's a sieve! What's this for?'

Silence. And then he realizes, shrieks 'FLOATERS?!' and turns green. Heh.

Proud to say that I threw up the entire contents of my stomach some 12 hours before actually delivering ds, so there was no poo involved - dh would never have let me forget it.

ldeeanna · 03/05/2009 16:08

Tamlin-I think we have the same man?!! So I might be able to ask for an enema? Oh dear about the sieve-thats horrendous-I've had a terrible vision of my DP sieving my poo out of a pool!! Its alright if you have a calm, mature lovely husband but unfortunetly for some of us that isn't the case!!
Last night my tummy was so painful and growly I had to admit that I may 'go' whilst he is in the house-his eyes lit up! He said-'so you do go' and 'I bet it stinks-im going to come and inspect after' so I just had to wait till he went to work today! Think I need hypnotherapy!!

Hi everyone - I've not been on for days as I've been feeling so rubbish, so have just read through all the posts. Amyboo - I'm so sorry to hear your news, my thoughts are with you.

I hope that you are all doing OK and the MS is going away. I managed to get to London and back on Tuesday - was sick at the airport and then ate various things like polos the whole day to try not to be sick - it worked, but I felt hellish. At least I could tell everyone why which was a great help and they were all so excited!

I hope this week brings the end of MS for all of us

Right, I'm off for another snooze!

HomeintheSun · 03/05/2009 18:39

ldeeanna I was sick twice while I was having DS, they gave me a tablet to settle my stomach just incase I needed a CS and it was that, that made me chuck, told MW this time round and he assures me that I won't be given that again.
How is everyone today, I hope the ms is easing for those suffering.
I am feeling like crap today, I got sunburnt yesterday after spending 3 hours at the play park with DS, since I've been pregnant I just can't take the sun anymore and end up feeling sick and blurrrr for the whole next day.

Laugs · 03/05/2009 21:15

Ideeanna I must be a bit like you. I have learned to go whe DH is in the house, but I have never, ever been for a poo in a public toilet and very very rarely at someone else's house! Sorry TMI.

This poo conversation is really bringing back memories! I was so sure I had during labour and was really embarrassed afterwards that it took me about 6 months to ask DH if it had happened. He finally reassured me that I definitely didn't (and he's not the type to lie) - but it really felt like it! This time around I will remind myself that labour does feel like pooing!

I was also sick, all over DH. In my case, I think it was from too much gas and air as I was loving that stuff. But that wasn't too bad really. I didn't feel ill or anything, just threw up and got on with it.

On the subject of labour, has anyone or is anyone planning to try either Active Birth or HypnoBirthing techniques? I quite like the idea of feeling more in control throughout the birth, however my concern with either of these techniques is whether I will feel like I've 'failed' if I do use painkillers (which I fully intend to). Does anyone know?

BeckyBL, I'm sure I read that they no longer need you to have a full bladder for your scans. Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be great being able to relax a bit more afterwards.

Tamlin · 03/05/2009 21:48

Incidentally - has anyone else been out shopping for maternity clothes? I queued for ages and ages to get into a changing room at Mamas and Papas only to find that the clothes were sized insanely big - I'm usually a 12-14 and had optimistically picked a bunch of size 12s only to find that I was swimming in them. I know you put on a bit of weight in your thighs and bottom during pregnancy, but not that much! There's no WAY I'm an 8-10 - was quite glad I hadn't tried to order clothes online if they indulge in vanity sizing of that sort...

Went off to Jo Jo Maman Bebe, and found the sizing seemed a lot more sensible, if a bit small around the bust.

Tamlin · 03/05/2009 21:49

Forgot to add - read the Hypnobirthing book, and had some trouble with the fundamental notion that the pain of labour is all in your head due to the Western medical establishment making you anxious or whatever. Hum, say I. I do have friends who loved the CDs, though.

Laugs · 03/05/2009 21:55

Thanks for that Tamlin I was worried that it might be like that, so will probably give it a miss. Having been through labour, I am quite certain the pain was not in my head but in my a*se! Everything I seem to read recommends it though, so it must be effective.

I also tried on maternity clothes the other day and they were way too big for me still (just around the tummy, fine elsewhere), but my normal trousers are now too tight. I am just slobbing arond in trackies at the moment but might need to buy a couple of stretchy dresses.

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/05/2009 08:59

Morning all! I am totally petrified this morning: one hour and a half to go. I need to loo just thinking about it... Had rotten dreams all night about being late for the scan, about there being nothing there, about forgetting to go entirely, about all sorts of things. Anyway, more later - hopefully good news

Enjoy your BH Monday everyone. I hope the sun is shining where you are. It is raining here!

Cies · 04/05/2009 09:01

Morning all!

I haven't checked in for a while because I've had my best friend over to stay from UK. It was so lovely to see her and have a girly weekend. The weather was wonderful as well, which really made it. I was a bit tearful as I waved her off at the airport. She brought me a surprise present - baby clothes! She said she wanted to be the first! They're very cute. DH went rather quiet and then said in a scared voice "We're going to have something small enough to fit in those".

Bizarrely, I had my first every ms vomiting session yesterday, at 12+4. At least I hope it was ms, not something I ate, but I've been very good and no one else was ill, so I suspect it was because I'd lowered my guard and had a cup of tea before my cereal.

I went shopping on Saturday to get trousers. I was looking for those maternity trousers that have a side button/elastic thing, but the only ones I could find were the tummy band ones, which were still enormous on me! I normally hate shopping, but was pleasantly surprised and reassured to see that this summer floaty tops and dresses are in, so covering the bump nicely won't be a problem. I've now found out from SIL which shops I should have gone to to get the side fastening jeans. I shall have to get into town this week, because I'm living in one pair of fat jeans and one skirt, but if this hot weather continues I'm going to boil.

Good luck to all with scans today. Hope to hear some good news this evening.

Cies · 04/05/2009 09:04

Ohh, re: folic acid. I asked my GP and she said that nowadays they don't stop recommending it throughout the pregnancy. This may be because the one I take also has iodine, vit b6 and potassium in it. But policy in Spain is now to continue until at least week 22.

beepbeep · 04/05/2009 10:28

Morning all
Laugs; My births with both my were very much 'active births' - with DD I had a little bit of G&A at the end, but otherwise just used my TENS throughout and with DS I used my TENS then had waterbirth, no drugs and he ws 10.1lb!! Both times i felt very much in control and left to labour in my own time, I had DS in a birthing centre and I think that helped as that is pretty much what they are about, but DD I had in a hospital and they were really receptive to it too. I did try listening to the hypnobirthing CDs on second pregnancy, but maybe i'm just not the right type of person for them, found them relaxing but that's about it!

Alot of the stuff i learnt was through doing pregnancy yoga (both times), no particularly techniques, just what works best for me (different movements i felt relaxing), understanding my body and what it's capable of and having confidence in it. Also learned normal stuff of moving around helps, being upright (gave birth to both of mine in squatting position - TMI??!!) etc.

Maybe all sounds a bit wishy washy, but i'm really not that type of person really, but took attitude that if it helps then it's worth a try, this time may be different but certainly worked before!

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/05/2009 12:09

I've just got back from my scan. I've never been so terrified and nervous in my life, I nearly said 'please, I can't do it' but the good news is...we saw a little baby bouncing around with a heart pumping away! Phew am I relieved. In fact now it has really hit me: I'm having another baby!!!! Ahhhh!!!!

sleeplessinthecity · 04/05/2009 13:23

Hooray for you Becky!!! fabulous news.

Reading the weekend posts with a smile. Yes birth is not glamorous AT ALL... but the animal instinct in us all just takes over. So don't worry ideanna.

Guests just left as did the cleaning lady..clean house and DD asleep for a bit..phew..bliss..no DH as its not a holiday here what a bore..

MS STILL HERE...am so fed up..

Good luck with all your scans tom folks

ursigurke · 04/05/2009 13:41

Becky - great news! Congratulations.
Laugs - Now, at this moment and very far away from labour, I definitely want a natural birth without epidural (mainly because I am more afraid of needles than of pain, stupid I know). Well, we will see in november.
In the end, everybody is different and feels the pain differently. And I definitely think that learning something about different techniques is worth to try. I don't really know what Active Birth means (will have a look on it later) but it sounds as you are in control of it, and even if it means that in the end you choose an epidural it has been your "active" choice. I don't think it would be a failure. And if you can try different things or positions during labour that should make it easier... at least I hope so.

Ninjacat · 04/05/2009 18:11

Please stop reminding me that I have to give birth to this baby.
Tra la la la la, I'm not listening.... In a November a stork will fly by my house and drop a baby down the chimney and I'll know if it's a boy or a girl by the colour blanket it's wrapped in...
...Or maybe we'll go for a stroll in the woods and look under cabbage leaves...
... or...
Any way I'm happy for baby to stay where it is for now so please allow me to delude myself for a little longer.. Tra la la la la....

BeckyBB - Congrats on scan.

The antibiotics are kicking in now and I'm feeling a bit more human. Actually left the house today! I can't find any evidence of flu affecting the fetus but still terrified that some damage has been caused.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/05/2009 18:18

Hello! I totally agree with what ursigurke says everybody is different and feels pain differently. I was lucky in the sickness department: that never affected me. As for pain? Well hurts like hell but my experience was that my body just took over and got on with it. I think everyone is entitled to do what they want. I know that if I had to endure a very long labour I'd be screaming for an epidural. There are no medals for being a martyr in this game.

Ninjacat you made me laugh! No storks involved in this I'm afraid! Or cabbage leaves. Glad you're feeling better.
