i agree about the symptoms being different second time around; with dd i had no nausea till week 8 and by that stage i'd already had 2 scans because of severe cramps in my side, so at least i knew pg was viable before 12 week scan. My boobs were also really sore around the armpits and fizzing in the nipple area. This time around i'm only 5 weeks and i'm feeling nauseaus quite often, although thankfully it comes and goes. I'm hoping this means it's a boy, although obviously at this stage i just hope he/she is healthy.

i don't think i'll be able to wait till 12 weeks either, all this time not knowing what's going on in there is unbearable! Haven't even seen my doctor yet, although i'll try and make an appt for tomorrow.

Our local pub is having a beer festival (great timing as dh is rather fond of the stuff and of course i can't drink, not that i'm much of a beer person anyway) ended up drinking alcohol free Becks, which just tastes far too much like the real thing for my liking. I actually felt quite guilty drinking it, even though i know it won't do any harm - think i might stick to orange juice in future!

timmette · 25/05/2009 16:34

Yes Marmitemonster it was highly embarrassing I also ended up rushing to the hospital convinced it was all going wrong only to be met with a young good looking male gynae - who clearly thought I'd lost the plot .

coffeeicecream · 25/05/2009 18:27

Amylou, I felt just like you the first time, and had no symptons and just kept reading how one was meant to feel. It was Christmas and i decided to have an early scan 61/2wks in order to put my mind at rest. For me it was def worth the money they were so nice and spent a long time and told me how beautiful my baby looked. It made me feel much better and i completly relaxed and enjoy my prgnancy . the symtons kicked in around week 8 i got evening sickness. Good luck and try not to worry. I also have no symptons now week 5.5. Itried to sip some wine last night and it didnt make me feel sick ? Last time the idea made me feel v sick.
probably being v stupid but what are the numbers before each name on the edd list?

coffeeicecream · 25/05/2009 18:29

got it sorry am being dim.

ampster · 25/05/2009 19:10

so after 7 weeks you can hear a heartbeat? i have a heartbeat monitor from my last pregnancy (from here: www.baby-beats.co.uk/ - i was so paranoid that i used it nearly all the time) so maybe i'll start listening on that from next week, that would be good.

timmette · 25/05/2009 19:20

ampster I don't think it works like that - these are internal ultrasounds - well the ones I have had - dopplers only pick up from after 10 weeks if I remember correctly - so don't be disappointed if you don't hear anything.

skidoodle · 25/05/2009 19:47

Hi everyone,

I'm sooooooo tired. I've no idea how I'm going to get through a (short) week of work. Then we are moving house on Friday

Anyone else not planning on going for an early scan?

I'm not really worrying too much. Either the pregnancy is viable or it's not. I'm assuming all is well until I have a reason to think otherwise.

I don't mean to minimise the worries the rest of you are feeling at all, it's just I don't personally feel it will be tough to wait for the 12 week scan. I'm in no rush. Just wondering if anyone else is feeling similarly patient?

Hope all of you with worries get your minds put at ease ASAP

beanieb · 25/05/2009 19:50

My early scan wasn't planned TBH. Only having it because of the Clomid. Could be twins, though I am sure if it was I would have some more symptoms

maygirl · 25/05/2009 20:07

Hello,
Can I join! Found out last week (on DH's bday) DC2 on the way, due ~ 26th Jan. Should probably join due in Feb though, as DS1 (2.9) was 15 days late!! Feeling ok so far, just a bit of nausea now and then. I'm a runner so need to join virtual joggers too

They scan here around 10 weeks I think, feeling patient to wait until then.

I've told all my close friends, but not work yet, which I'm not looking forward too, so I Hope I don't start to look obviously pregnant for a few more weeks. I was out of regular clothes pretty quickly last time!

Hi Folks,

Still fairly symptom free at the moment, though having a bit of a stress as my youngest has got measles and i haven't had it or my MMR. Off to docs in morning for a blood test to check immunity levels. Wish me luck.

I have a scan tomorrow. I'm in two minds, it could be brilliant and just what I need to hear, as I feel 7 weeks preg (for me). I've been nauseous most of day (and waking feeling ill at night/morning), and started to be sick in morning, had sore boobs, nodding-off to sleep in day, restless legs, etc. which fits with my first normal pregnancy. On the other hand, I'm terrified it will be like my last one, and I'll get bad news, although that felt very different at this stage (and I bled most days).

To reassure anyone new with less symptoms, the first time I was on a MN antenatel group there were a small handful of us feeling v.ill. Majority having range of symptoms to different degrees, and some with none. Didn't make any difference in the end to preg/labour!

For anyone who does start to be physically sick, I recommend gaviscon/zantac (can hold it off a bit or make vomit less painful, sorry if TMI), and acupuncture and anti-emetics. I took pills from around week 8 to week 30 (day/night I was being sick), which I think stopped me getting dehydrated and needing hosp help!

On a bonus, my hair and nails are great (my nails normally 'bend' and split easily, they're thicker now) - does anyone else have this?

showmethemummy · 25/05/2009 21:29

Hi all,
haven't posted for a while and now many more have joined the ranks! Congratulations to all. thanks singalong for organising us.

well we've had a rather eventful couple of weeks. Week bef last DH went away on walking week leaving me with dd's. thankfully dd1 at nursery in the mornings and dd2 at nursery three mornings aweek. so managed ok.

BUT then - we were hit by chicken pox.the best: had had blood tests so knew am immune (as opposed to my last pregnancy when exposed and could only wonder) the good: they came down with it on the same day. the bad: 1 weekend and an entire week of two dd's at home!! with one pg mum.

however following arrangements made with DH previously - have just been away for couple of nights on own with friends
just as well though, as grumpiness tiredness issue is now really kicking in BIG TIME.

I was supposed to see MW tomorrow for 1st appointment but is half term here now [hurrah]and couldn't find sitter for dd1. didn't want to take her along because it's supposed to take an hour, probably involves blood tests, and also - haven't told her yet. not sure when to, actually...

lilacpink · 25/05/2009 22:00

Hi showmethemummy, good news on your immunity to chicken pox!

I've been wondering if we can tell more people after the scan tomorrow (think DH will still want to wait for 12 wks), but not sure about DD (who's 3). So I'd be interested to see what time other people told their child(ren) too. I had one friend who told her DS when he was 18 months the name they were thinking of calling their second DS, after they'd had the 20 wk scan. She thought he'd be better prepared if he was used to hearing the name regularly (personally I don't think he took it in).

Gosh this thread is moving fast!!! hope everyones had a nice bank hols ours has been much more sedate than usual -would normally have been to a boozy bbq and been nursing a hangover but enjoyed it this way much more!! (all day) sickness has gone away a bit too am eating the second i get hungry and it seems be be keeping it under control... I'm feeling lucky that lots of people around me are having babies at the mo too, one bf is 19 weeks and ones just had a baby a week ago and my boss is 21 weeks too. they all know as last weeks sickness was pretty hard to hide and have all been letting me know what to expect! Although everyones different of course! Looking forward to getting to know you all will try keeping up with the thread as best as poss XX ps could you add me onto the next edd list - am due 21st jan and its our 1st.... Ta!

ampster · 25/05/2009 22:39

thanks timette! i'll keep it in the drawer for a bit longer then.

skidoodle, love your attitude. i want to be similarly zen about it. but i think because this pregnancy was unexpected and way too early my feelings towards it are not completely unequivocal. i feel ambivalent about the prospect of miscarriage because it would take the problem away - but i know that if it happens i will be so depressed. so it's difficult to feel zen about stuff if you're flip-flopping all over the place.

symptoms: tiredness is kicking in i think. today all i've been able to do is lie on the bed. and because this is second pregnancy i look about 5 months pregnant already. was just enjoying massive breastfeeding weight loss and now this!

I just want to get to the cute bump phase so I can get one of these Isabella Oliver tunic dresses. They've got a 25% off sale until 31st May but I just know that buying any new maternity dresses before 12 weeks is tempting fate way too much!

ampster · 25/05/2009 23:02

Ooh, I love a bit of Top Shop maternity wear. Actually when I stopped being pregnant the only thing that would bring on an occasional nostalgic pang for the days of the bump was the sight of the cute Top Shop maternity frocks. Roll on 2nd trimster!
