cheeky that's a kind offer - I didn't know you had to quality for HiP, I thought it was universal. T'will scour tinternet for more info.

Talk of forms has reminded me that I'll have to update child benefit/tax credit stuff. Wish I could do it antenatally so I'll actually remember! Oh, and another mostly-useless child trust fund. I'm sure the financial services people are getting more benefit from that particular gem than anyone else.

Christiana it does sound worth mentioning to a HCP, but then it could just be that you need even more fluid than you're taking on. I remember drinking, literally, 3 litres of water a day with DD and still feeling dehydrated with quite strong urine. In the words of an auxillary when I was in hospital years ago for an op, we want Lambrusco, not Lucozade in that loo!

Mij · 02/05/2009 13:21

That should have been qualify for HiP - d'oh

EvieBear · 03/05/2009 15:31

Hi all,
What a nightmare- I ended up in hospital on Fri evening and am just home now. I felt so odd the whole of Fri and then felt lower abdominal pain since Thursday. Glad I went in as they detected mild contractions and gave me steroid injections for baby's lungs were I to go into labour. I was freaking out but home now as they calmed down. Have to take it mega easy now though, I'm not going to lift a finger for the next few weeks.
Have any mums had experience of similar in previous pregnancies?
So nice to be home in my own bed now....

Jenny79 · 03/05/2009 17:35

evie hope you are feeling better now, that must have been scary! Big hug xoxo

ilikeyoursleeves · 03/05/2009 19:25

Yikes Evie, I hope you are OK now, what a shock for you! Do you need to go back in for a check up or have they just said to rest?

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I think I am nesting already as I hoovered everywhere yesterday (even under places I've not been for quite some time), cleaned the bathroom, and cleaned out DH's music room and tidied it all up and rearranged it. And did loads of washings too. Oh, and got DS's clothes out the loft- they are soooooooo tiny!

Evie Wow, what a nightmare, hope you are resting now. It must have been very scary.

I think I am nesting too. Yesterday I washed all of the baby clothes I have been given. It looked so gorgeous on the washing line! I still need to buy a few newborn bits and pieces but have promised dd that we can have a girly shopping day at 1/2 term and get it all then. I was given a few John Lewis babygrows and they are fab, they all have scratch mitts added in, so it will be much easier than putting scratch mitts on, from experience I seem to remember they just fall off. I looked John Lewis up on line and they are not much more expensive than mothercare.

Spent the day at a local country park with dc and a friend and her kids. All very manic so feel quite knackered tonight.

Just found out that DH is going to Australia in June, when I will be 35 weeks! AAARGH! What a nightmare. He will be gone for 9 days, so I just have to hope that this one doesn't kick off while he is away....its unlikely isn't it!? Please say yes!

Enjoy the bank holiday tomorrow everyone.x

EvieBear · 03/05/2009 20:09

Yeah it was very scary indeed, they have said to rest but were happy they had subsided but I have to go straight in if I feel anything else odd. I'm going to be be so paranoid now with every twinge I feel. Anyway it's good warning for you all to take it easy!! 31 weeks tomorrow and counting- bet the weeks will drag now instead of flying by like they have done up till now.
In a way was good to see how it all worked in the hospital esp for DP too. First I was in labour ward in my own room with a lady in labour in room next to me, listened to her moaning for a while then came some very controlled screeches and eventually she gave birth, was lovely to hear the baby crying when it popped. Then went to antenatal ward; midwives and consultants were all fantastic so am v happy about that.
I think I nested a bit early when I found out I was pg, as I went nuts cleaning the flat but that's it for me now, no more strenuous scrubbing at skirting boards and window sills (sp??) etc for the mo...

Misspaella · 03/05/2009 20:27

Evie so glad you are ok. What a scare. Take is easy.

I was in hospital overnight on Friday too. What a weekend for us, eh?

Mine was not baby related (thankfully). I seem to have some vertigo condition and had such a bad spell of Fri night where I couldn't even walk, lie down or anything. It even made me fall off the bed. Something to do with the inner ear (could be pg linked as sinus/ear membranes can swell in pg or due to an inner ear infection, dr unsure until I see an ENT specialist). As I am pg I had to be monitored and stay o/n in the maternity unit before they could get the ok to give me medication that would be safe to use.

Exactly not how I planned for my Bank Holiday weekend.

Nesting I am in that mode too and just want to tidy everything all the time. I'm excited to get baby clothes out too and remind myself of what is coming.

Hope everyone else has been enjoying the weekend.

Gillyan · 03/05/2009 23:49

evie So glad you are okay, you must of been so scared. Take it easy won't you.

misspaella Poor you too.

nesting I apent 6 n half hrs cleaning and tidying on Wednesday, just went on one and well over did it.

Went and got ALL the last baby bits yesterday and spent £400!!!!! We'd already got the pram, car seat, cot, crib, highchair, etc! Ooops!

Got a baby changing station with a bath in at standing height. It is Mama's and Papa's and should of been £60 and we got it new for £25, well chuffed as wouldn't of bought it otherwise and it will save my back. I remember how much it killed to lean over the bath etc. I used to change DD on top of a chest of drawers in her room and on the sofe or on the floor downstairs and it does hurt.

I literally need to just get maternity pads/breast pads etc now! Not long, I've got 8 weeks and 3 days to go till section day! (if I have the section)

xxhunnyxx · 04/05/2009 11:47

Hi not been on here for a while now so will have to read of all the news later.

evie glad to hear everythin is ok with u and baby.

Well I saw my GP on Wednesday and she signed me off work for a week, I just felt so exhausted and was begining to panic about things so she gave me a sick note and told me to rest. I don't think work are too happy about it cos it's really busy at the mo but there's not much they can do or say about it.

I saw my ex yesterday, he's been a complete idiot lately so I went round to try and sort things out. It didn't start well, but we ended up making progress. He's promised to come to the parent craft class on Thursday and I'm going to try and get a 3D scan booked but I know I'll have to be quick cos running out of time. Does anybody know how long u usually have to wait to get an appointment? I'm 31 weeks tomos and I think they only do them up to 32 weeks. We can't really afford a scan but I really think it'll help him to bond with his son and get him more excited.

I've decided that it's a man thing that they don't seem to realise that these bumps turn in to babies! My Dad is still living with me and he told me yesterday that he's not moving back in with his gf's house (long story) but they're gonna get a new place together. There was no mention of them havin to do it quick so he can be out before baby comes along, I'm not even sure that he realises that he'll have to move out before baby's arrival. I think over the next few weeks I might have to start dropping subtle hints!!

Mij · 04/05/2009 12:56

Evie that must have been really frightening. Put your feet up and keep them up!

Nesting I wish I was! The house is a total tip, every time I bend over to sweep or pick something up or even do my bloody shoelaces I get dire heartburn and want to barff, so it's just going to have to stay a mess for the time being. We have got soooo much sorting out to do in the next two months, no idea when it's all going to happen. Oh well...

Other halves travelling Patchy - yes it is unlikely anything will happen at 35 weeks but still, DP and I have decided that we're on amber alert from 37 weeks (as DD was born a little early) and he's ditched a plan to go to Germany in late June, just in case. But then, we run a non-profit co so we can make those kinds of decisions ourselves.

Birth plans anyone with a complication-free pg so far planning a home birth? I've just started to investigate the world of birthing pools and feel the need for a little lie-down now! The fact that we have an old-fashioned immersion tank has considerably complicated matters...

Beccabump · 04/05/2009 15:15

Hi Ladies - you've all been busy since I last checked in!!

EvieBear hope you are feeling ok now?

homebirths I am booked for one, probably getting the Birth Pool in a Box regular size - here

I am still feeling rough, not heard back that any of my bloods were a problem and feeling fluey so guess it is just a nasty virus that's wiping me out

Had to make an emergency dash over to Launceston at lunchtime to see the OOH doctor - DD has come out in a delightful rash and there is a case of possible German Measles in the area! Seems to be a viral rash with eczema on the top luckily! Only a 2 hour round trip too!

DH was away all last week and with the BH weekend I really don't feel like I have stopped yet - it really does seem the further along in this pregnancy I go the more I am doing and the less I am resting

DD is at nursery tomorrow am so I will make sure I get in some good r&r!

Anyone else out there really uncomfortable under their ribs? I had the same with DD, just a constant pressure feeling under the right side - so annoying at times

xxx

woollyjo · 04/05/2009 20:05

gillyan I would recommend the washable breast pads, they fit better, I found them not so hot, they don't stick to sore nipples (ouch) and they don't rustle.

Mij Home birth here too but planning it on dry land, I'm 32 weeks now so MW is bringing me a list of things we need when I get to 34. I really wanterd a water birth first time round but the pool was unavailable and dd came v quickly, this time as it is likely to be quicker I'm not that fussed.

Beccabump rib pain - oh yes for weeks, tried changing driving position, sitting position, bras nothing works aggh!

ilikeyoursleeves · 04/05/2009 20:27

Happy bank holiday all! Hope your day was better than mine. SIL offered to take DS for the afternoon so DH and I could go to the cinema (not been for well over a year) but by the time we got there it was sold out! We were looking forward to it soooooooooo much too. Then we fell out with each other over it which escalted into a huge argument about money, work etc which resulted me being in a big sobbing mess. It was horrible, I had been looking forward to today so much as well At least we are talking now but lots of the things he said won't be escaping my mind soon.

On a positive note we have our scan tomorrow (28 weeks) and hopefully we will find out the flavour! Hopefully the mood will be better then

QueenFee · 04/05/2009 21:07

Hello all - wow you've all been chatty whilst I have been away
Evie that must have been scary for you hope things go ok from here x
My mom and dad came up for the weekend and we have sorted the garden out so it's ready to go out and sit again which is nice
Bought DH a firepit for his bday and it was really nice to sit round it in the eve on sat.
I have had a busy weekend so am really tired now. I think I am getting to that stage now though as I keep falling asleep on the sofa

My parents bought up the crib too so I can't wait to get that up. It's so sweet.
Sorry things wern't to good for you Sleeves I often find if DH and I spend a lot of time together we get cranky with each other.

I've got a busy but nice week ahead of me as it is my b'day on wed then on thurs I am going to ladies day at the races first time I have been so excited!

rubyriley · 04/05/2009 22:14

Haven't been on for a while, looks like will be moving house just before baby due (8th July), eldest DS moved back in as finishes Uni in June necessitating a major spring clean operation & I'm on iron tablets as borderline anaemic. BP keeps dipping down (feel SO drained when it does) Life's so busy!!

Evie that must have been so scary, hope you're taking it easy now and let that be a lesson to all of us who are having Braxton Hicks galore!

likeyoursleeves Enjoy your scan tomorrow, let us all know how it goes and post a pic if you get chance?

Cheeky the Health in pregnancy Grant is definitely not means tested; it's available to everyone.

Friend had her first DS yesterday, a whopping 9lb 6oz and after complications and an epidural, she ended up having a c section. Not sure whether she expected such a large baby (she was 10 days overdue) and was carrying quite compactly. Think she had a hard time of it but not spoken to her yet. Went from feeling quite envious that she was having her baby, to quite glad that the experience is a few weeks away for me!

PS Do all midwives say that baby's head down with back to the left, as heard this is most popular description (friend & I both told our babies lying like this) amidst reports of them getting it completely wrong and discovering breech at delivery!! OMG!

Misspaella · 05/05/2009 07:16

Morning
I have been up since crazy o'clock with DD and decided to check my bank account and there was my pg grant. YAH! What a way to start the morning.

Sleeves Sorry to hear about your date experience with DH over the weekend. I am sure going to your scan today will make you 2 forget it ever happened and coo over the baby.

Raspberry Leaf Tea Can't remember who mentioned it but you can start taking it from 32 weeks. But maybe after Evie's experience some of us should hold off?

thelollipoplady · 05/05/2009 07:48

Hi everyone

Calling all sling experts (and those who've been practising with their DCs baby borns...)! I'm dying to spend some money on a baby sling (internet shopping so good for brightening up these last few weeks...) but want to know which would be best. I walk a lot - plan to breastfeed for as long as poss, and would carry babe in sling as opposed to pushchair as much as I can. I like the look of the stretchy jersey fabric-style ones and want as much versatility as possible.

What do you recommend?

Hi All,

Definately do not qualify for HIP as Im a "International Student subject to Immigration control". Checked on the HIP hotline as well as with the midwife.

Re slings my shawl I bought from the charity shop and some rings have made it into a lovely sling - have been using it for DS this weekend as he has been a bit of a cling on. I had bought a wrap sling but when I have been playing with it I felt too enclosed IYSWIM. Also it was quite difficult to slip a newborn in and out of for the school run which is what I want it for. The ring sling seems better. I quite fancy a pouch sling too - I am told the ring sling is best for breastfeeding and certainly seems to be in my experiments.
Know what you mean about waanting t o spend more money to pass the time though I feel the same

BonzoDoodah · 05/05/2009 13:49

Drat! Went for midwife appointment and forgot to ask for the grant form. Doh! Got GTT and Iron results back though and am fine - so I can eat all the chocolate i want ...well I think that's what she said. Don't know why I'm so utterly shattered though if it's not anemia. Must just be being preg with a toddler and working full time. Sigh ... no cure for that.
I did see the Doc as well though and now have some Ranitidine to try and ward off this horrendous heartburn. I thought swigging Gaviscon 6+ times a day was getting ridiculous - and it just plain hurts (the heartburn). Fingers crossed this stuff works.

Elvie scary weekend - hope you rest and all stays ok.

I went to go shopping on Saturday to get some baby clothes but Next was shut for refurb and TKMAX was rubbish - so came home in a sulk. Will have to do "nesting" shopping next week.

BonzoDoodah · 05/05/2009 13:52

Oh WoolyJo which washable breast pads did you use? I think I had Mothercare ones (can't quite remember) but they had thick seams at the edges so showed through my tops and looked like I had ENORMOUS nipples - not a good look when your boobs have swollen like Zeppelins anyway (and feeling self-conscious). I used disposables as they were tapered at the sides but am open to any suggestions for next time.
