Welcome slushy06 Congratulations on your baby girl!

I went to physio this morning and the lady didn't do anything but give me advice really. A bit of a waste of time. At least my spd has clamed down a bit for now, but she said these fair ups I keep having are what normally happens and to take it easy. She also said that my ballet pump shoes have to go, there is no support in them and for me its crocs all the way now!! Joy!

Was wondering if any of you had heard from plot2. I noticed she hasn't been posting for ages and was a bit concerned. She is the one with missing ductus venosus in her baby and has been having regular heart scans. Has she posted anywhere else?

Thanks for the advice re breast pumps. Think I will probably go for the avent one. Still undecided though.

Have loads of work to do today and cannot get started! Going to my first prenatal pilates class tonight which will be interesting.

Have a good day everyone xx

Lillabet · 29/04/2009 10:40

Welcome slushy06 - congratulations

Lillabet · 29/04/2009 10:44

Patchybob - just had a quick search for plot2 and the only threads she has posted on are the Due July 2009! Am hoping all is well, but I guess we won't know until she posts!!
plot2 - if you are lurking, can you let us know if you are ok?

Phoenix · 29/04/2009 10:55

Welcome and congrats slushy06 i've added you to my list

I'm a bit down at the mo don't really know what to think. The hospital have just rung up about my GTT results. They are impaired, which means higher than they should be, so i have to go to the diabetic clinic at 12.30 tomorrow . I don't really know what to expect but she said something about bringing a machine home and testing my blood sugar levels after every meal and been monitored weekly, i'm scared

OP posts:
slushy06 · 29/04/2009 11:26

Thanks to all for welcome. Pheonix have they said what kind of machine is it a finger prick one or a urine. Or is it a different kind.

Phoenix · 29/04/2009 11:27

I'm guessing a finger prick one but i don't really know til i go tomorrow.

OP posts:
slushy06 · 29/04/2009 11:39

Hope they put your mind at ease.

mickeylou · 29/04/2009 11:55

hiya phoenix sorry you are worried. at least if you are diabetic they have caught it and can start making sure you and baby are looked after right. good luck tomorrow - let us know how you get on. [hugs]

welcome slushy and congratulations. how old is your eldest?

JetLi · 29/04/2009 11:58

Sorry Phoenix - that's absolutely pants for you about the GTT.
Which test reults are they referring to? Was it the drink of lucozade and then a finger prick after 1 hour, or was it a fasting test with blood drawn, then Lucozade followed by a 2 hour wait and then more blood drawn? I had both tests because the first test came back borderline - my blood sugar showed at 8.1 and should have been 7.8 or below. Then I had to go back for the second fasting test which was nearly 2 weeks ago now and I've heard nothing back - they said no news is good news so I'm assuming I passed the second test OK. There are some good threads around for GD support. When I read up about it, they'll try diet first and go for insulin if your blood sugar isn't under control by diet alone. The NICE guidelines are here if you want to look at them. If I understood it all correctly, the placenta somehow interferes with or soaks up the insulin you're producing and so you have lots of sugar floating around which makes for big babies - that is what they seemed most worried about when I did my reading.

My personal opinion, for what its worth, the more I read, the more it seemed like GD was some new "flavour of the month" thing that the medical folks seemed determined to look for and "manage"... It struck me that there would be more mileage in testing for GSB or for Toxoplasmosis but that diabetes is the "in thing" at the moment.

slushy06 · 29/04/2009 12:05

my ds is 3 and he is so excited he wont let anyone feel my belly and insists on kissing it goodnight i don't think anyone is gonna get to hold this baby. Does anyone know what fpf means my midwife wrote it on my notes for baby's position yesterday and i can't work it out

QueenFee · 29/04/2009 12:52

the 2 f's usually stand for feotal and felt so fhf would be feotal heartbeat felt IYSWIM not sure about the p though perhaps position?
Welcome BTW. My DD was born on July 14th!

pheonix Hope it all goes ok

chellebelle · 29/04/2009 13:08

slushy I've got a midwife appointment this afternoon - will try and remember to ask fr you .

slushy06 · 29/04/2009 13:19

Thanks chellebelle and queenfee I didn't think it was to do with heart because in the next column for heart rate it says fhhr (fetal heart heard regular)

Misspaella · 29/04/2009 13:22

Welcome Slushy Phoenix sorry to hear about your results. Hopefully it is just borderline and that you can manage it for the rest of the pregnancy. Fingers x'd for you.

Other DC's during birth
We are "lucky" to have MIL 5 min drive away. I say "lucky" as lovely as she is, we don't exactly get much help. She is also very inflexible (i.e. she won't change her diary to accommodate us if we need help). As an example, when I went into labour with DD, we told her to expect to take DS at some point during the day as it progressed. She kindly told DH that she had the gas man coming in the morning so that wasn't a good time. WTF??? Thankfully we didn't need her to collect DS until after the gas man came to service her oven.

Heartburn Does anyone have anymore tips that does not incl Gaviscon, milk or ice cream?

mickeylou · 29/04/2009 13:32

slushy my DS is 3 too and this one is also a girl.

i would think fpf is fetal position felt.

misspaella so funny that your labour was not convenient and the gas man took priority! i have the opposite type of mil - the type who would quite gladly take my DS and never return him. besotted is not the word. not sure which is worse!!

Gillyan · 29/04/2009 14:24

Wecome slushy and congratulations on having a girl!

phoenix Hope you are okay, try not to worry.

Patchybob · 29/04/2009 14:26

Phoenix what a bummer...I think its great though that it has been picked up now and you can do something about it. Don't be scared, you are being looked after now. Hope you ok.

Lillabet Thanks for looking for Plot2. Its strange she hasn't posted as she posted quite a lot at that point. Hope she is ok.

Off to enjoy the sumshine xx

chellebelle · 29/04/2009 14:37

slushy well - I asked the midwife about FPF and she didn't have a clue! She said FMF was foetal movement felt, FHH was foetal heart heard but she didn't have a clue what FPF might be so sorry but can't help! Is it particularly bad handwriting? Not sure what else you can do other than wait for your next appointment and ask then.

Misspaella sorry - no help with heartburn other than maybe the gaviscon tablets if it's the liquid that you don't get on with.

slushy06 · 29/04/2009 14:44

Chellebelle not bad handwriting I think Queenfee must be right fetal position felt thanks.

thelollipoplady · 29/04/2009 17:00

misspaella your MIL story reminds me of mine... when i was having DD2, she took DD1 overnight (again only 5 mins down the road) - I woke up first thing in the am after having just given birth with massive tearing to find DD1 being dropped off in maternity and MIL nowhere to be seen! Needless to say, we'll be asking someone else to look after DCs this time...

spd - my physio gave me one of those stretchy velcro fastening belts - which is ok in theory, except it cuts into my bump and is impossible to wear sitting down. And not ideal when you're bursting for a wee ... Anyone got a better model?

Misspaella · 29/04/2009 17:06

Oh I am liking the the MIL stories...aren't extended just the best.

Phoenix · 29/04/2009 20:31

Ok i'm probably going to sound really thick now but quite a few times today my bump has been going hard and i've thought the baby was pushing his bum out or something but it just occured to me that it could be braxton hicks, is that what they're like? Theres no pain it just goes a bit uncomfortable and hard

OP posts:
Phoenix · 29/04/2009 20:33

Oh and thanks for all the messages. I'm still a bit worried but a bit calmer after doing a bit of research. I can't wait til my appointment tomorrow so i know what's happening etc.

OP posts:
mickeylou · 30/04/2009 08:33

hiya phoenix - thats the feeling ive been getting too. it all goes really tight. i think its braxton hicks. x

JetLi · 30/04/2009 08:39

Will be thinking of you today Phoenix
