Thanks guys, I am surprisingly calm actually, I am due my tablets at 9pm, now basically and I have already felt 2 contractions ( well tightenings now rather than harsher ones' I was getting ) so better go get my tablets. Can't see them stopping without the tabs though!

woollyjo · 02/06/2009 21:33

I think little'un will be Niamh or Hannah with Hope and Anne (her great grandmas' names) as middle names. I love Elsie but DH hates it. DD1 is Mae Rachel Edith, again middle names are the other great-grandmas.

Anyone else getting shooting pains down the front of their thighs? they really hurt, wondering if baby has moved south as I'm 36+ weeks now.

gillyan Hope you are ok, I just want to make it to 37 weeks and then I will be more than happy to have this baby!

Beccabump · 02/06/2009 22:07

Gillyan Hope you are ok and trying to get some rest! Just to let you know my sister was delivered at 36 weeks with no complications and no need for SCBU (she was 6 and a half pound!!) and she turned 27 today - eek! I am keeping everything crossed for baby cooking a bit longer and a happy delivery!

My bump is so heavy today, I really don't know how I am supposed to fit any more baby in there?? I have posted my bump pic on my profile - scary bikini shot too!

nesting anyone else started yet? I have scared myself with how much I have done today

Going to lie down now - can't cope with the humidity and heat!!!

xxx

BonzoDoodah · 03/06/2009 10:25

thanks chellebelle I'll have a look there.

EEEk Gillyan I hope the tablets keep working and little one stays inside a bit longer! Fingers crossed for you!

ActivityApple - remember your mum's experience is soooo long out of date. And anyway ... why the heck would you want to get out of bed to BF and wake yourself up (and possibl your hubby) when you can just bring little one into bed, feed them and then put them back and all of you go to sleep? Anything else seems like madness to me. (Alos I'd get your hands in really cold water with lots of washing up liquid and get those rings off as soon as you can - morning is best).

hobbgoblin · 03/06/2009 11:50

Ooh Gillyan what a roller coaster for you!

You and I are due on the same day! I've had a lot of contractions and started getting regular ones after doing some heavy lifting I shouldn't have. Mine have settled now and am just getting the odd ,take your breath away BH, thankfully. I hope you are managing to stay calm and that your baby can hold on just a teensy bit longer.

Sorry all for not keeping up with this thread too well. I never get chance to sit and read the messages for long enough as I have to fight for laptop with my 3 DC a lot of the time!

Getting very excited now as not long til the 37 week landmark!

Despite being very uncomfy, have loved the sunny weather too...want more!

Activity - I didn't bother washing any new clothes last time but i have this time and the only reason for that is i had all the new and second hand stuff in a box all together so thought it would be better to wash the lot.

I've just added some bump pics to my profile. I didn't realise how big it was

Bonzo at ironing baby clothes

Gillyan every day inside is a bonus - let's hope those tablets work! DD1 was born at 36+4 and had a week in SCBU because she was small (5 1/2lbs) as I had high BP. And you know some babies just do come early! I was born at 35 weeks and I've turned out a bit of a freak OK

SCBU is not as scary as you think, although it's not what you'd choose, it's almost as if your body does not let you panic. Could I suggest asking if you could go and have a look round SCBU? Just an idea but it helped me - once I saw how calm and organised it was and that you are quite well supported as a parent I felt a whole lot better the prospect. Good luck, will be thinking of you and keeping my legs fingers crossed

Early labour had really bad upset tummy since the weekend, which can sometimes be 'a sign' (although it could be related to the fact that we had bbq's sat and sun) and spent most of last night on all fours on the bedroom floor because the baby feels like it's trying to push it's way out! Not to mention the BH's... This being my 2nd, feels very much to me like mine is planning to come out sooner rather than later too. Had acupuncture this morning and the acupuncturist (who is also a midwife) has told me to take things reaaalllly easy at home (not so easy with a 3 year old) and try and keep the baby in there until 36 weeks or else I'd be for the steroid injections too. It could just pass - hope it does. I'd love to hit 37 weeks!

cheekycel I had high BP last time round, this time around the MW suggested I take a magnesium supplement (I am taking 250mg) as it can help keep a lid on high BP - it seems to be working for me as BP hasn't been an issue this time - just worth thinking about maybe?

Really glad the weather has cooled down. Feel a bit mean praying for rain but bring on the sun in August I say (sorry to the August girls!)

Gillyan · 03/06/2009 14:05

Thanks all for your kind messages

quilted Hello - glad to hear your Lo was okay. I have already been round the SCBU unit so feel quite calm, I am really amazed at how calm I have been actually, there's nothing anyone can do so I'm just going with the flow.

I had been having some very painful twinges for a few days, like baby was bouncing on my cervix, and I have been having VERY strong BH's for weeks now, but very irregular ones. I was just sat down when all of a sudden I felt 2 period like pains go across the bottom of my tum, then I started getting very strong BHs and then my back ached like with a period. I stood up and just wanted to rock my hips and I felt pressure down there and also like I needed to do a poo too, which I didn't. definately felt very odd and knew it was more than BHs but I still stuck it our 2 n half hrs before ringing hospital as I was convinced they would stop the minute I got there. I tried all sorts of different positions too as BH are supposed to ease off if you move whereas proper contractions can get worse. The latter was true for me so thought I best ring the hopsital.

I slept really well last nigt in bed, woke up about 6 times but got sleep, and I have had 3 hrs this morning on the sofa. I got a total of 4 hrs sleep in hospital over 2 nights!!!!!!!!

Will keep u all updtaed anyway.

I hope you are all okay, not had time yet to read through everything I have missed

mickeylou · 03/06/2009 14:29

take care gillyan!!!

i now think i have piles. oh the glamour.

also, i really feel like this baby is pushing down on my cervix - i feel very uncomfortable down there and keep getting shooting pains. does anybody know what happens if you go into labour before your section date? do you still get to have a section?

Misspaella · 03/06/2009 14:30

Just a quick post....Gillyan hope you are ok!?!

BonzoDoodah · 03/06/2009 15:08

Gorgeous bump pictures BeccaBump and Phoenix - makes me feel better even though mine is covered in stretch marks. But it is big - but seeing your two it's just what it should be I suppose.

Quilted - I iron the baby clothes because I don't use fabric conditioner or a tumble drier (I'm alergic to fabric conditioner and don't ahve a drier) - so the clothes are quite hard and creased if I don't. Otherwise I wouldn't dream of it - should rename myself as House_Slut

Activity sometimes there are chemical fabric finishes on the cloth the clothes are made of. I like to wash it off before putting it next to a new-born's skin. But it is not essential. Do what you have time to do.

ilikeyoursleeves · 03/06/2009 21:16

Wow Gillyan, how calm are you given you've been having contractions! I hope baby stays put for a while longer and you aren't feeling too uncomfortable.

Leg cramps, OUCH!!! I've had a few now during the night, another one being last night, and man are they sore or are they sore? I had these last time too, does anyone know how to make them less likely or what to do when they strike?

Shooting fanjo pains I'm having them too! I walked down to collect DS from nursery today and I had to stop 3 times cos of these pains, ouch! I think it's baby kicking me but I did start to think, yikes things could be happening here! I'm only 32+5 so I hope not.

christiana I am intruiged. What is your DH's name??! Vesuvius? I can't think of any more volcanoes!!!

baby in room I had DS in with us for 5 months, I wanted to be close to him and I think he benefited from being close to us too. The cot death recommendations freaked me out too so I tried to have him in with us for at least 6 months as per recommendations.

JLo2 · 03/06/2009 21:45

Hope you're okay Gillyan. It certainly sounds like they've done the best thing for you and baby. I had a very similar experience with DS2 who threatened to come at 35 weeks. He eventually managed to hang on another fortnight so wasn't even classed as premature when he arrived. He was such a little skinny thing, but made up for it by eating like a horse and became a very chubby baby eventually! He's now a healthy and not at all chubby 8 year old

ilys I get a lot of leg cramps at night, but now manage to wake myself up just as they are starting. I know it's painful, but you really need to flex your foot to stretch the calf muscles (bring your toes up towards your shin). I promise you it works and stops the cramping. It goes against what your leg is doing and needs a deep breath as it's hard to do, but it really is the only way. I can now stop the cramp setting in by doing it quickly, but if you're too late for that it still helps hugely.

moodylou · 04/06/2009 00:12

It's getting scary now - i'll be classed as full term in a week and i still haven't finished packing my hospital bags even though i started doing it about 6 weeks ago!

Woollyjo I get shooting pains down the front of my left thigh and the doctor said it's SPD. Does it get worse when you're standing still?

MrsCrunch · 04/06/2009 10:56

hello everyone,

I am new to mumsnet, going to be a first time mum (due 6th July) to a baby girl and will be moving to back to balham next week after 2 years abroad. yes, I am mad enough to move 5 weeks before my due date but so far I have been blessed with a very easy pregnancy and everything seems to be going according to plan... I would love to meet new mums to be as I have done all my antenatal stuff away from Balham and feel a bit out of the loop. also, can someone recommend a good antenatal yoga class? Thanks a lot!

Lillabet · 04/06/2009 11:06

Welcome MrsCrunch Hope all goes well with the move .
Sorry I am nowhere near Balham so can't help although I am sure some of the more experienced MNers will be able to point you in the right direction

Gillyan about the contractions etc, good for you being so cool, calm and collected about it I know I wouldn't be the same!!!

Sitting in the office in a positively cool 19 degrees; after the 28 and 30 of the previous 2 days it is positively bliss-full!! We have interviewed for my maternity cover and it looks like we'll be getting someone for my last week in work so I can hand over - only got 9 full days left [dancing smiley].

Oh well, better get back to work and sort out all the stuff I need to for my cover coming in .

Hope everyone has a good day .

Quiltedrose · 04/06/2009 11:06

Hi Mrs Crunch! I don't live anywhere near London so can't help with the antenatal qu's - have you tried the Mumsnet Local boards? But wanted to say hello and welcome :-)

moodylou get that bag packed! I sometimes think we put it off a bit because having a packed bag sat in the hall makes it all seem too real. (I haven't finished packing mine either )

Gillyan if you're around how are you today?

fanjo pains is prob pelvic joints stretching in preparation for having a head stuffed through them Personally think it's the worst bit of all, makes it soooo hard to get in and out of bed!

Cheekycel · 04/06/2009 11:53

Welcome MrsCrunch! Im in Norbury so not too far from you. Due with my first on 10 July.

Thanks for the BP info Quiltedrose. Im already taking Pregnacare which contains magnesium. Should I take an extra supplement?

Gillyan hope all is well with you ((hugsssss))

Here's wishing a lovely day to all, and sorry i havent commented on everything ive already lost track of who said what!

Patchybob · 04/06/2009 12:07

Hello everyone. Hope you are all well and enjoying this slightly cooler weather!

I slept like a baby last night having had 2 awful nights in a row and I was feeling crappy. Today I feel fab!!! Long may it last!

Seeing the midwife later and I am dreading it as I haven't seen her since the consultant ok'd the c section. Last time i saw her she made me feel like a major loser for even considering it, so I am scared to tell her!! How silly of me really!

Gillyan hope you are hanging on in there. Welcome MrsCrunch

xxhunnyxx · 04/06/2009 12:40

Gillyan !! I'm due the day before you and I'm nowhere near ready so it's scary to think it could happen already. Hope everything goes ok over the next few days, looks like we'll be having some birth announcements pretty soon then.

Welcome mrscrunch

I'm so tired today, I woke up at 5.30am and couldn't get back to sleep. Thank God tomorrow is my last day in work, I can't wait .

Quiltedrose · 04/06/2009 15:17

Cheekycel Yes if you look at the back of the pack, Pregnacare only contains 50% of the RDA of magnesium and that is the non-pregnancy amount - pregnant women need slightly more. As you can see from this link the RDA is 360mg. It was just something the midwife suggested to me as when you get severe pre-eclampsia they give you a huge dose of magnesium to bring your BP down - so intuitively it suggests that it might be some help. My dietitian friend insists that if you eat healthily you don't need a magnesium supplement, but I don't want to take the chance plus am eating lots of rubbish (today have just eaten plain bread and now some cheesecake )

Potassium is also supposed to help, so lots of bananas and dried apricots

Check first though if you are on any medication for BP as it can amplify its effect.

I had my BP taken by the midwife an hour ago and it was 136/82 and this time around in my last pregnancy I was hospitalised as it was 200/120 That's not necessarily all down to magnesium but maybe it's helped, who knows?

Speaking of midwife appts have told midwife about my Monday night false labour and upset tummy and she has given me a fortnight...erk!

Cheekycel · 04/06/2009 15:51

Thanks Quiltedrose gonna do some research on that quickly
