poor you christiana - hope you feel better soon.

activity - love the name Sidney - like i said little old men names are the best!!

phoenix - fab advice re 2 bags. we were rummaging about in my bag when i was in labour. also i must remember to pack some food for DH. poor bloke was about to keel over last time.

LGOR you have a really nice bump. cant imagine what its like to be kicked by two babies. my stomach is constantly wriggling, grinding and bouncing about just with one. can you sleep at night??

best of luck for friday becca. bumps - i am getting so many comments eg youre massive, huge, are you sure theres not two in there. mainly from people at work. i think its just something for people to say to be honest. personally i would rather look obviously pregnant than have people looking at me and wondering whether i am pregnant or just been eating all the pies!

is it supposed to be some kind of accomplishment if you dont show?? if we didnt have bumps you could guarantee people would be whispering about how we must not be looking after ourselves and the baby.

DS felt baby move for first time on sunday. he was giggling his head off but looked really shocked at the same time.

i have got to that stage where i actually like being pregnant. yes i'm tired but skin and hair look ok, nails never been better and hooray i dont feel sick anymore! the only thing i need now is to finish work but i have another 6 weeks to go

dont want to jinx myself here but things are really good at home too. my DH and i had a lot of problems a couple of years ago to the point of separating and it sort of spoiled the time when DS was a baby for me. everything now is soo good and I just cant wait to have this little girl

Mij · 18/05/2009 11:26

Becca thinking of you and your DD - a general would fill me with dread too, even though I know 2 consultant anaesthetists as mates and they're all the most careful of all the docs I know (weirdly, I seem to have built up quite a collection in the last few years).

QueenFee glad your contractions settled down. I've been getting more tightenings again, the kind that raise my heartrate and adrenalin levels, but also period-pain type contractions on and off for the last few days. As that's how pre-labour started for me last time I've been a little on edge too.

Gaviscon can't remember now who finally got it on prescription, but did I say that my MW told me you can get it for free via the Minor Ailments scheme at the pharmacy? You can get the regular or advance type, luckily in both flavours (cos the aniseed makes me puke) but only 300ml a go. I don't mind paying for every other bottle (cos while we're strapped I'm not on the bread line) but the Advance costs over a tenner a bottle and I'm getting through so much of it I don't mind flashing my exemption card every few weeks!

hospital bags we only packed one cos DP was legging it around the house shoving stuff into a bag while I yelled instructions between contractions (DD was a little early and we were disorganised!) but I highly recommend getting your DP to pack it/repack it so he can find things. Oh, and so he knows what everything is . You don't want to have to explain the difference between a popper vest and a sleepsuit while you're still coming down from gas and air!

baa baa blinds A Very Good Idea. Used one on hols and now using it at home cos both DD and I waking up stupidly early, despite having blackout linings on the curtains. One of the down sides of renting - the colour scheme is cream and the light just bounces around the place!

christiana have you tried lanolin/Lansinoh on your knees? A BFC told me that the reason it's so good on cracked nips is that it seals the crack without it scabbing, which means it doesn't recrack every time the scab comes off, and it works very effectively on grazes. Not suggesting you don't get the infected one sorted, of course, but might be worth a try after you've had a bath and the non-infected graze is soft..?

We've got local, mini baby-show type thing coming up, but I'm not sure there's much point in going cos I always get nobbled by someone wanting sling or breastfeeding chats, and DD will get fed up.

Very happy cos my mate has lent me her birth pool, which she unfortunately didn't get to use (better luck next time) so I don't have to rely on the NHS one not turning up in time, and I can release it for someone else to use too. Result!

scully · 18/05/2009 11:49

Hi ladies, just wanted to say to Becca, I understand how you feel with your dd's gromit surgery this Friday. Our dd2 had eye surgery at 23mths and I went into the operating room and held her whilst they put the gas mask on her face, one of the hardest things I have ever done, leaving here for her surgery. But it all went ok so was worth it. Hopefully will be for your dd as well
JetLi, I haven't had many comments like yours, on the size of my bump. Just get annoyed when people tell me I look tired, funny that, I am pregnant, working 3 days a week and have 2 other children, can't imagine why I look tired As for shaving my legs, that still happens occasionally, once you've given birth your dignity has all but disappeared anyway, so don't worry about a few hairs
It's going into winter here and I have finally caught the cold which has done the rounds of the family Feeling quite shite tbh and panadol not being too effective. Bump feels quite tight tonight as well, just couldn't get comfy on the sofa, can't wait to see how I go trying to sleep.....

xxhunnyxx · 18/05/2009 12:56

jetli I can just about manage to shave my legs but not very well. I can do it in the shower by lifting one leg on to the handle of the bath and balancing very carefully and last night I managed to do a bit in the bath but I got quite a nasty cut at the same time (ouch).
I've now given up on the pubic region - gonna get some Veet and get my ex to get down there and sort it out!

bump size - I'm not really gettin many comments but my Dad really pissed me off the other day. I was making a bacon butty for my tea and he said ''you're loving this aren't u? being able to eat what u like'' I said ''well I eat what I like anyway'' he just sniggered and said ''u know what I mean'' and then SLAPPED MY ARSE!!! I was fuming! I know I'm just being hormonal and over sensitive but he can be he doesn't half know how to make a pregnant woman feel worse about themselves! Tosser! He's been looking at an apartment today so hopefully he'll tell me that he's moving out when I get home tonight (fingers crossed).

I've been getting quite a lot of pain and tightening this weekend. Bump all of a sudden feels a lot bigger and tighter and baby's movements feel very strong - even a bit painful at times.
It's freaked me out a bit and made me start my nesting. Washed baby's clothes and started putting a few things in my hospital bag and got a list of things I need to get. It might be a little premature of me but I feel a lot more prepared now.

JetLi · 18/05/2009 12:56

scully - I'd forgotten that one - Ma JetLi said "You look exhausted" when she arrived yesterday - to be honest I felt fine until she said that, and then felt irrationally annoyed, which of course brought on the heartburn

As for my baby sis, she put on 4 stone with her first by eating many, many Magnums so I'm not quite sure why she thinks I'm so huge - I'm still hovering around the 2 stone mark and think I'll either maintain or lose now since my eyes are now most definitely bigger than my preggers belly . The appetite is there but the body just ain't willing any more !!

Was going to start the raspberry leaf tea this week - I figure it can't hurt. Stepping up the hypno birthing too which is a nice excuse to lie down. Then I think I've talked DP into so fanjo/perineal stretching . Anyone else doing anything? Was going to try and get lots of walking in to get the old blood moving a bit and build up a bit of stamina but the weather is still shite here so that's on hold. You've all set me off fancying a swim though

jetli how do u stretch your fanjo? Is there an actual technique? I'm gonna try the raspberry leaf tea but I've read different things about when to start taking it from. I think the MW at ante natal said to start taking it from about 36/37 weeks.

xxhunnyxx · 18/05/2009 13:16

This may sound like a daft question but does anybody know if you can burn candles in hospital?
My Mum's friend is an aromatherapist and she's going to mix some oils up for when I'm in labour, aparently Clary Sage oil helps labour along so I was hoping to be able to burn some oils. But I do think there's a good chance they wont allow it due to fire risks and smoke alarms!

Mij · 18/05/2009 15:18

fanjo stretching not wishing to put anyone off, a few months ago my DP asked if we had to do 'the horrible thing this time'. I thought he meant something in labour I'd forgotten about, but he meant perineal massage! I have to say it was the very opposite of romantic for us - I couldn't reach to do it properly, and I was too inconsistent anyway, and DP loathed it because it hurt me, and he's a sensitive soul . Some people think it helps, some people think it makes no difference, we gave up on it so I'm no help at all! at having instruments involved! Good luck to those hoping to make it fun..

hunny yes there are step by step instructions for it - google perineal massage and I bet a load come up!

Beccabump · 18/05/2009 15:43

Aaargh! the perineal massage - did it with DD but don't think I will this time around. Had to get hubby to do it as I couldn't reach, he promptly took it as a come on each time!! Not a sexy feeling for the lady either - quite a stinging feeling and uncomfortable

mickeylou · 18/05/2009 16:12

not liking the sound of that! (another thing to add to my pro c section list)

plot2 · 18/05/2009 16:15

Hello all

Its been a long time since posting.

I haven't had the best of times and its been difficult for me to enjoy anything about this pregnancy.

I have scans almost every other week and its completely sucked the joy out of it, good news is the scans haven't picked up any other problems, babys heart and general development seem to be normal.

I had a bleed at about 25 weeks and had a short stay in hospital, as a result we had to cancel our holiday to Spain and lost all our money.

Now I have been diagnosed with placenta previa and have been pencilled in for a c-section on 29th June. I'm very disappointed as natural birth with dd was so special. Also quite scared.

I have been living this pregnancy from scan to scan and a friend turned up this weekend with baby boy clothes, its suddenly dawned on me to focus on the fact a baby will be here in 6 weeks time and I should start trying to visulise that, until now I haven't been able to dare think all will be ok.

I'm sorry for the popping back in with a moan, I hope you all are blooming.

I did the fanjo massage thing last time amd no tears so it could be a coincidence but seemed to work in combo with taking salts for improving elasticity.

I will endeavour to kick myself and start feeling excited about having this baby - it better be cute after all this!

take care all, I hope to join in again from now on.

Gillyan · 18/05/2009 16:30

plot2 Sorry you're having such a poo time. It won't be long now till it's all over.

Gillyan · 18/05/2009 16:34

Hi all

feeling really low today. I have cried for over 3hrs and just feel really crap. I think I am just bored and lonely when DD is at nursery and DP at work. I have been off work nearly 6 wks now laready and thought I would be loving it. think I am bit depressed, the weather doesn't help though.

Went to bed at 11pm last night and ended up on the sofa at 1.10am and finally fell asleep at 4am till 7.45. My hips are hurting too much to lie on my side.

Since the big fight between me and DP we have slept in the same room and bed every night since last sunday whixh is great. We had been sleeping seperatly since June 08 as I had insomnia. Apart from last night it has been so so so nice to be back to normal.

Just hope last night was a blip.

I've lost half a stone in the last 2 weks which is a bit worrying???

JetLi · 18/05/2009 17:45

Hi plot2 - good to hear from you and sorry you're having a rubbish time, but we're so glad the baby is doing OK. Try not to worry about the c-section - a couple of pals had electives (one due to breech baby and the other because of previous emergency CS) and when they're booked in advance they seem to be very calm. Both ladies have no regrets.
Sorry you're having a bad time as well gillyan. I suffer sometimes with insomnia, but only if there is something on my mind and (touch wood) I'm OK at the moment. I find homeopathic coffea very good (that one is for if you go off to sleep initially but then you're wide awake in the small hours) and Valerian is very good but I'm not sure if it's safe in pregnancy. Orange blossom water/neroli on the pillow too. But if the hip pain is waking you up/keeping you awake then I'm not sure - a lady I know had some reflexology for preggers hip pain and found it to be good. Regarding position, I checked with the mad-wife and she said that if you feel OK lying on your back then it's fine - she said if the uterus presses on the big vein, then you'll know about it straight away and you physically wouldn't be able to stay in that position, if that makes sense. I asked because I was panicking about lying on my back in the bath for hours on end. I find I'm OK slightly propped up - I tried out the mad-wife's theory and found that if I go bang flat on my back then I go mega-dizzy and yucky instantly and I have to sit up. So what she said made sense to me.
Hi xxhunnyxx - I'll post the fanjo stretching instructions later - they're in a book at home. They don't sound very nice, but I figure we'll give it a try. I got some oil from Mothercare but anything is supposed to be good - olive oil, veg oil etc.

rubyriley · 18/05/2009 18:08

Aw Gillyan if its any consolation our hormones make us far more tearful; my DP went away to see the rugby final at Twickenham, stayed the night with friends, all of this on his birthday. Felt irrationally gutted and upset, actually tearful on the morning he left and this is very unlike me. Hard when feel so bad to get over it really, just have to carry on with your day and keep busy. Then arrived at horse yard where I make everyone a coffee every day, and after doing my jobs went into the kitchen only to find they'd all have a coffee (6 of 7 friends) and noone had made me one!!! Felt like could have burst into tears (aren't I pathetic! ) So, do feel for you and am very glad that we don't get those crazy emotions every day!!

Beccabump Your post was SO funny!! Told my DP the bit about your DP thinking that it was a come on and we both had a good laugh Men!!!

Jetli Also can relate to your post. Said to someone yesterday that if one more person says "are there two in there", or "you're REALLY REALLY pregnant now" implying that I'm huge and "no way are you going to go full term", I WILL flatten them. Bugger off!!

Am enjoying feeling baby move (though at times even that is uncomfortable) and my BH are also quite painful at times (can cause alarm but my midwife reckons more intense the more DCs you have & really not to worry as long as they fade away) but I do feel that I'm losing my sense of identity. I'm not particularly vain, but like to feel relatively fit and being a bloater, not being able to tie my laces, put my socks on or even put my feet in my knicker leg holes, is really wearing very thin! Don't remember feeling every little detail so intensely with my last 2 but assume it was just as bad

Anyway, hang in there everyone, sure the weeks will soon fly by

woollyjo · 18/05/2009 20:23

Hi all,

Hi Plot2, not long to go now and after your ds is here hopefully the trauma of an anxious pregnancy will be long forgotten.

I had my 34 week MW ap today and am measuring 37 weeks so am having a growth scan tomorrow. I'm really hoping it is all water not a huge baby. I was planning to work until 39 weeks and am feeling a bit stressed as I seem to be running out of time to get things done.

We had a great weekend camping despite the rain, dd (2.5) loved it. the only down side is that it is all a bit low down, tent pegs zips etc. sleeping was no problem though, I think I could sleep propped up in a corner at the moment.

Off to unpack said sand encrusted camping chaos.

Phoenix · 18/05/2009 21:05

Oh blimey just had a quick read of the due in June thread and one of them is in labour and she isn't due til 28th June it's getting very close for us now

Plot2 - Sorry to hear you've been having a bad time {{hugs}} but glad all is ok with the baby.

Gillyan - {{hugs}} to you too. Hormones all over the place.

OMG at fanjo stretching, i've honestly never heard of that

Woolley - glad you enjoyed your camping trip, i chickened out of going last week and opted for a caravan instead.

Hunny - I have no idea about candles in hospital sorry.

Along the same lines does anyone know if you can take a hairdryer/hair straighteners into hospital?

I've had a nice peaceful day at home with ds today, just the 2 of us as dh was back at work after us having 2wks off together. I'm on leave now and my maternity leave starts on June 15th

I've been to Matalan today and got myself a light dressing gown and some slippers for my hospital bag

OP posts:
Misspaella · 18/05/2009 21:58

Just dipping in to say hi.

I have quickly skimmed through the posts and sorry to hear that there are some concerns out there and hormones going crazy. Virtual hugs to all.

I have my growth scan tomorrow as I am still measuring small and feeling anxious about the whole thing. I am sick of people saying that I am small as if I am doing something wrong. This is the healthiest (and busiest pg with 2 DC's under 4) I have had. My only naughty indulgence is a cup of coffee a day (and I did this with my last 2 and no harm) and the occasional bite of freshly bought camebert. Hardly inappropriate behaviour.

wollyjo good luck with your scan tomorrow too and let us know how it goes.

Evening all.

Gillyan · 18/05/2009 23:55

Thanks for the insomnia info jetli thats great!

Thanks everyone else too for your nice comments.

wooly and miss hope your scans go well and put your minds at ease.

scully · 19/05/2009 01:50

Hope the growth scans go well miss and wooly.
Sounds like you've had a rough time plot, I had a c/s with dd1 as she was breech. I think if they are planned & you know you are having one (i.e. don't labour for hours before an emergency c/s) it's maybe easier to get your head around it & plan for it at least. I can understand your disappointment though, I felt the same, as only found out at 37wks that dd1 was breech. Suddenly had to change my whole mindset on the birth in 2wks. Hope the last weeks of the pregnancy are more enjoyable for you
Don't think I'll get around to perineal massage, never did it with dd2, had an episiotomy but it healed quickly with no probs so not stressed if that needs to happen again. I do need to buy some rasberry leaf tea though, and labour snacks as well, apart from lucazade, can't remember what else I took in last time.
Think I might sort through some more clothes today, all the age groups are mixed up so need to repack all the bags and find the newborn, 0-3mths stuff at the same time. Have tried to avoid doing it with the dd's around though, or else things disappear and I will find them on dolls later in the week
Evie I don't think it's too early to start washing things, as long as they are packed away afterwards they won't get dusty. At least then you'll be somewhat prepared should things happen earlier than planned A friend's 3rd dc arrived 4wks early recently, which has prompted me to stick to the list I'd written about what needs to happen each weekend. Can just imagine giving dh instructions from the hospital and coming home to chaos

JetLi · 19/05/2009 01:50

Bummer - small hours heartburn again. Feel quite, quite bleurgh with it. So just waiting for the Gaviscon to start working.
Glad the camping went well woolyjo and good luck with the scan today - same to you missp
I think I must be being a bit thick about nappies . Been getting some disposables for the early days and they're all marked as newborn, but none of them seem to have that notch-thing in the front for the umbilical stump thing? Where am I going wrong? It's the only way DP will be able to tell the front from the back of the bloody things I'm sure.
Phoenix - my mate said hairdryers/straighteners no problem in Jessops, but not sure about Barnsley I'm afraid. I was wondering how you go and get washed, or go to the loo or whatever - do you just leave the baby, or wheel it with you? Or just ask the lady in the next bed or what? Very confusing.

JetLi · 19/05/2009 01:52

[waves to scully] What are you doing up Mrs.?

Phoenix · 19/05/2009 08:22

JetLi - I was thinking about that last night. Cos i had a c-section the first time i had a shower i know dh came in with me to help me but i can't for the life of me remember what we did with Lewis. We were in a private room so i know we didn't ask anyone in the next bed to watch him. I'm not sure if my mum was visiting and watched him

I could have had a chat with you when you were on in the early hours JetLi. Ds had a pretty unsettled night waking up crying that a monster was trying to get him. He ended up in our bed around 2am and it took me ages to get back to sleep. Dh got up at 5.45 for work so i slept loads better then when i had more than 3inch of the bed. I'm tired today though so may have a little nap while ds is at pre-school

Hope the growth scans go well today

plot2 · 19/05/2009 09:53

Hi all, thanks for the welcome back and kind words.

Gillyan sorry you are having a bad time, I hope your depression lifts and you can start to enjoy some feet up time.

Woolly jo and Miss good luck with your scans.

Woollyjo where did you go camping? Sounds fun. I was looking into going to a festival this summer, Bestival sounds great in Dorset, Mr Tumble will be there how cool is that?! It's on at the end of July so think I might be pushing it for this summer with newborn and 2.5 yr old.

If I remember last time in hosp baby slept loads so just went off to shower without anyone watching over her, I was in my own room so just kept bathroom door open.

I start mat leave in 3 weeks so planning to get stuff for baby sorted then and food in freezer, I have 3 weeks to do it all plus get in the first week of Wimbledon watching!

I'm spending most of my time trying to get veggie plot sorted, its slow going now and Dh has banned me from anymore digging, mind you after last bleed I'm quite happy to not pick up spade and just sow seeds.
