I want one of those clip things for the buggy - thanks for reminding me....

My DH suprisingly asked to be reminded of what names we had chosen for the baby out of the blue. So nice to know he is actually thinking about bubs! However although we have had a girls name from day dot (Isla) we are still going round in circles about a boy. We like Ewan and Alfie have to admit to swinging towards Alfie myself but Alfie Bennett just sounds like such a mischief maybe I would be jinxing myself ?

Those of you who have used acupuncture how did you find a good one? Thinking about trying it before I am (if I am to be) induced. Would rather be at home for the first part which was the only difference for me.

Hello to everyone who has reappeared!

chellebelle I was born in the Queen Elizabeth hosp and bought up in the midlands so know it quite well

never come across travel blackout blinds. Sound like a fab idea .. off to google

Phoenix · 16/05/2009 19:41

No i'm in Yorkshire so it was a 2hr drive for us but i really wanted to go

I've got the Boots freebie bag and it is ok actually, better than the huggies one they used to have, but i fell in love with that one when i saw it yesterday

That pick and mix did look very tempting but we didn't bother

Don't know if there are anymore on the market Queenfee but these are the ones who were at the baby show

thanks phoenix

Phoenix · 16/05/2009 19:55

Oh it seems there are a few around.

I've been searching for hospital bag checklists today and have myself a decent list of things to pack. I'm getting quite excited to pack it but i know its early yet. I still don't know what type of birth i'll be having but i am going to ask for an elective. I saw the diabetic consultant on Thursday and he said they'd keep an eye on the babys size and possibly look at inducing me at 37/38wks but i really don't want to be induced and risk it not working and end up with a c-section anyway iykwim. I'm going back in 4wks so may know a bit more then

Is anyone else going to watch Eurovision? Dh is and it will be on the tv but i'm so not interested in watching it. Dh always watches it

Forgot to say welcome back to all the returning posters

chellebelle · 16/05/2009 19:59

Well I hope the midlands welcomed you well Phoenix I'm in Kenilworth - Coventry born and bred but moved out here last year and am absolutely loving it

The blackout blinds are these ones - quite sweet really and the clips we bought were these ones .

Really liking all of your names Queenfee. We're really struggling for names we can agree on. Unfortunately mentioned one name -Alysia - to DD (aged 3) and she is now absolutely adamant that that will be the name so we may end up sticking with that anyway - I do really like it but DH isn't convinced so will either have to find something else that we both really like and talk round DD or DH will have to learn to love it

sorry phoenix X posts!

Phoenix · 16/05/2009 20:06

I like both your boys names too Queenfee. Really like Ewan , love Isla it was on my very shortlist for a girl.

Our little boy will def be called Noah Rhys. We couldn't really change our minds now if we wanted to as ds knows it and keeps saying it so it would be weird for him if we change our minds

mickeylou · 17/05/2009 08:32

i absolutely love the name Alfie queenfee -- my little boy is called Billy - little old men names are the best. Pretty sure we are going to call this one Heidi unless of course when i see her she doesnt suit it.

Noah is such a cool name too phoenix

EvieBear · 17/05/2009 09:46

No leg pains last night - went swimming yesterday and have to say it was the most amazing feeling ever!!! Having all my body weight supported was just glorious; I am quite petite so the big bump is now taking its toll! Highly recommend it. I had been going quite a bit but after the hospital was a bit nervous to get back. Anyway had a gentle swim and loved it. Ok will stop now

I love Isla queenfee, v pretty!

I'm def going to get some of those baabaa travel blackout travel blinds, I first spotted them on the nct shop website - sound like a v good invention!!

Went to an nearly new nct sale yesterday which was v good but i was on my own so didn't want to buy stuff and have to carry it home, pity. DP was in class...

A good tip i've picked up re hospital bag is to have 2 bags. One for while you are in labour and immediately after, so things like nightie, socks, snacks, water, lip balm, camera, sleepsuit, vest and nappy for baby. Have a second one packed and for your stay but leave it in the car and get dh to fetch it in when he's ready. Depending on how long you will be staying in send dirty clothes back home with dh daily so you don't end up going home with tons more than you take in iykwim

Hello Ladies

Hope you are all having a good weekend, I have spent most of it lying down trying to entertain DD and coax baby out from under my ribs! He is laying in exactly the same position as DD did for the last 6 weeks of pregnancy but I am hoping my yoga moves can sort me out this time!! I can't believe I am 31+3 eeek!

Blood testing is going well, getting the right amount of blood now rather than having to try a few times and using up loads of strips! Fingers only sore for a few mins after testing too. The levels have all been between the agreed levels (below 6 pre-breakfast and below 7.7 an hour after my main meal) except for one where I had had a lot of carbs the night before. I am finding the new diet a little hard, especially cutting out my snacks mid morning and afternoon - they seemed to make the day easier!! I have been told that if I get desparate I can have some meat or cheese type snack - strange to hear from a dietician!! And I can have a small pudding after my main meal occasionally so that is helping This is only for the pregnancy though so if the diabetes continues after pregnancy I will be given a new list of foods I can and can't have. Luckily (well I say luckily!) my dad is type 2 diabetic and so is my grnadad so I have grown up watching people try to manage their sugars and I think I am doing ok

Baby is really wriggly much like DD was and has taken up head butting my cervix as his new game. It really hurts and is quite shocking. A lady in Morrisons thought I was in labour this week as I suddenly doubled over in pain! Had to explain to her it was just a bit of a kick

We are gradually sorting out the bits and pieces we already have, moses basket, baby bath, clothes (well a few!), towels, baby carrier, car seat, travel system etc and remembering just how much room such a small persons belongings take up! DD has taken a huge interest in out sorting and took some of the clothes for her babies She is being very good at the moment and loved the HV who came to see us the other day. The HV spent ages talking to her as well which was lovely.

DD has her grommets operation this Friday and I am quite worked up about it now She just seems so small and the thought of her having a general fills me with dread. We visited Children's Ward last Friday for a look round and she thought it was great with the playroom and toys and wanted to try out the beds!! Each bed bay has it's own tv which is free for all the children staying and if she does need to be kept in overnight then we can stay right there with her. There is also a mums and dads kitchen, shower room and our own toilet which I think I will be very useful! We have to take her in at lunchtime and she should be going down to theatre at about 2pm when the list starts. They go by age order and at the moment she is youngest and so 1st to go - a big relief to us! I can take her to the pre-op room and stay till she is asleep. We even get to choose with the aneasthatist (sp?) whether they use gas or injection to send her to sleep. Then once is is coming round in recovery I can go and be with her straight away. So very nervous about it

Ah well, I have waffled on now for far too long so I wish you all a peaceful night! xxxx

Beccabump · 17/05/2009 18:18

Oh, forgot to say (somehow!) that I totally agree with Phoenix. We had 2 bags one for labour and one for after and it made it so much easier as DH wasn't turfing through the sea of black knickers to find things when I was labouring

xxx

Phoenix · 17/05/2009 18:26

Becca - My dietician told me that Cadbury's light chocolate mousses are ok as a pudding if you are missing a chocolate fix, i just had 2 after my lunch and blood was ok an hour later

Ooooooooooooh!!!!

Thanks Phoenix !!

LargeGlassofRed · 17/05/2009 20:33

The babies are kicking me so hard now, I think they are both feet up with the right one resting his feet on my ribs.

My bump is huge, pic on profile and my skin feels so tight.

My mums bought me some bio-oil wish is lovely and really helps.

Beccabump · 17/05/2009 21:18

LGOR I am now thoroughly depressed - how can you have such a neat and tidy bump when there are 2 in there????? I think mine is the same size and I am only having 1!!!

Oooh you devil you :P

xxx

QueenFee · 17/05/2009 21:42

lgor you have a lovely bump

becca hope everything goes ok with the op x

bags I also took 2 bags. A messenger style bag for labour then a suitcase for the hosp stay afterwards.

Took dc's swimming with DH yesterday. Won't be able to take them after bubs is born as they only allow a 1 2 1 ratio round here Last night started having loads of contractions DH is now insisting pack my hosp bag. They did go away when I went to bed thankfully or it may have been a trip to hosp - I'm only 32+5 (ish!) DH has been convinced all alnong they have my dates wrong and I am measuring big for dates so I suppose you never know. I don't think I am yet though as I haven't got to the too big to move stage yet They were painfull too so much for BH not hurting
Have got round to washing some stuff today so I can pack this week. Just in case...

aquanatal I did them with my 1st and loved them. Unfortunately can't go this time as it doesn't coincide with nursery pickups etc. I made some lovely friends there and it was the only place I felt normal with all the other pregnant women and light the water is so lovely when preg.

Becca I hope it all goes well for you all on friday, sounds like a lovely hospital and you will all be in good hands.

LGOR Lovely bump, you are very neat and tidy! Were you like that with the others?

QueenFee Glad that it all settled down with your contractions. It does make you think about getting organised though doesn't it. I have washed quite a few bits and last night showed DH where they all were and how they were organised (slight OCD!!!) just in case! With the rainy weather I seem to have baby clothes drying all over the house!

We took the DC swimming yesterday and it was a nightmare. Within 5 minutes of being in the pool DS had kicked me full strength right in the middle of my bump, blimey it hurt. About 10 minutes after that DD did the same! I spent the rest of the session swimming about 5 foot away from them and anyone else, which was hard as the pool was heaving! Thankfully no damage done and the baby treated us all to a manic, grinding movement session last night which the children thought was fab!!

Anyway, enjoy the day xx

PS Craving weetabix at the moment, practically tore the box out of the delivery man's hands when he bought my tesco shop on saturday.....was like a woman possessed!

Hi ladies!
Some examples of comments from yesterday, to give you a laugh:

"OMG you're H-U-G-E-!!!! Absolutely MASSIVE!!!"
"Come and look at how BIG Aunty JetLi is kids, quick!"
"You'll never go until the 8th July - not in a million years! It'll be much sooner with the size of you!""
"There must be 2 in there - don't trust the scans you know - one can hide behind the other!"

And who did these comments come from? My Mum, Sister and Grannie
You can really go off people - they were all over at mine for Sunday lunch - I would've spat in the gravy by way of revenge, only DP and my Dad were eating it too
On the plus side, the nephews were bump hugging and talking to the baby which was really lovely.

Anyone still managing to shave their legs? Any tips? Think I might have to enlist the help of DP - my dignity is being stripped away layer by painful layer....

Hi christiana - let us know how you get on at the Dr. Hi becca - will be thinking of you all on Friday.

EvieBear · 18/05/2009 10:46

queenfee ooh scary, watch out and take it easy, you don't want to pop yet!

LGOR very nice bump, really neat!!

I think I'm the only one who doesn't freak when people comment on my bump size what's wrong with me? I guess it peed me off for a while being told I was small but there's nothing I can do about it so I don't care now...

I'm waiting another few weeks to wash new baby stuff (am 33wks today), don't you think it'll get dusty in the weeks we have left or should I go ahead and do it now? Hmmm...
