Dandy how yellow? IIRC mine were a very pale yellow/straw colour. OK this is TMI, but when my waters went I'd felt a little funny 'down below' so I got a tissue to wipe & check & when I did I felt a small gush over my hand . Went to the loo and there was a slightly larger gush. Thereafter it was more of a trickle, though I'd pretty much soaked a maternity pad in a couple of hours.

Are you still feeling leaky or was that it? Might be worth saving the pad just in case. When I went into hospital the mw took one look at my pad & confirmed it was waters not wee.

Other way to check is smell - waters are more or less odourless/slightly sweet smelling.

divedaisy · 29/04/2009 11:46

grumpy - I'm still here hanging out!

dandy - I had my waters broken artificially last time and even then they came in waves, so I'd imagine it is possible for them to start and stop. I'd imagine it would depend on the position of your baby - whether or not it is acting as a plug and stoppign the flow. Makes sense to me but I could be wrong. I'm getting ARM (artificial rupture of membranes) on Friday mornign! THe consultant was going to do it this morning - but he said I could end up sitting at home 'sucking my thumb' - don't really know what he meant by that!!

I've run out of rasp leaf tablets and can't be bothered to get any more TBH.

OK I AM away to bed NOW...

See y'al later.

SpangleMaker · 29/04/2009 11:52

Dandy can't remember how may weeks you are but I seem to recall you're due at the end of May? Would be worth giving the hospital a call - if you think it is your waters, and you're pre-term, they'll probably want you in for monitoring.

dandy If your waters go it could be straw coloured, they're not always clear. It can keep coming in gushes too. If you phone hospital they'll more than likely ask you to wear a pad for an hour and if it's still wet then go in to confirm that it's your waters.

Divedaisy 2cms, not bad. After what happened last night this sweep might be successful, so get your rest now while you can!

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 12:01

dandy if it's your waters, your pad would be equally soaked. It happened to me twice before and I soaked a pad every hour with ds and couple of hours with dd. Every time I moved I had a bit more of a trickle. If that's happening then it would definitely be wise to get in touch with the hospital to get it checked out. Good luck

Jennster · 29/04/2009 12:04

Ahem ladies. We have less than 100 posts left.

Good luck to everybody pending.....

Sorry for not mentioning everybody. Been really busy with meetings.

Had a trace yesterday as baby less active, but everything absolutely fine. Managed to make it to Aquanatal by the skin of my teeth. Sorry to have missed you sophietom. Hope you are ok.

blotted cherry bakewell cake I have the ingredients and will be making it tomorrow or today, depending on sleep and epilation requirements.

Momino enjoy your sister's visit

dummies Just thought I'd let you know, that despite FSIDS declaring a dummy to be helpful to prevent SIDS, the research that they use to come to that conclusion actually doesn't conclude that they can help. Obviously they don't do any harm. The research says they may help. Just a bit about how they've teamed up with MAM and recommend their brand.

SpangleMaker · 29/04/2009 12:08

Dandy it does sound as if it could be your waters. But don't worry too much, even if it is,you almost certainly have plenty of hours ahead to organise the most urgent things.

It's not good timing for the school appeal but there are ways around these things - you could scribble some points down while you're at the hospital - DH and I wrote text for his website while I was waiting for monitoring.

You don't need much for your hospital bag really but if you're in a hurry I do recommend pen & paper to write your DH lists of things to do/fetch/wash/buy etc.

Divedaisy things are moving for you! Good luck & get some rest.

Right - better nip off - with all this excitement I'm ignoring a smelly nappy & grizzly baby.

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 12:10

Jennster That's right about the dummies. Another important thing that's not mentioned is that if a baby is used to a dummy, it's more at risk of cot death on nights where it doesn't have it's dummy for some reason. So if you use one, you need to use it all the time.

Who asked me about whether chattering is more annoying in Dutch? Well in a way it is, because my mum is used to speaking dialect, while I speak more of a 'general Flemish', so she tries to do the same and then ends up inventing new words or saying things wrong. I keep telling her I don't mind her speaking dialect, I just can't, because I never really learnt and it doesn't come naturally.

frazzledoldbag · 29/04/2009 12:24

ooh so much excitement on here.
Can't give much advice re: waters breaking - mine haven't gone on their own in the past. BUT I do know that they don't smell like wee, they smell a bit [ahem] different and not unlike a sort of (sorrrry) sperm sort of smell. Sorry that sounds gross doesn't it. But there you go. I'd say same as everyone else - if you are in any doubt dandy get yourself checked out. If it was just your bladder then at least your mind will be at rest.
dive sorry you've not had the baby yet.......you had me on tenterhooks. Sounds like it will be here very soon though.
spangle how are you feeling? Did you get a better nights sleep last night with H? I remember the early days with my girls and the feeling that I'd never get a decent bit of uninterrupted sleep ever again (just remember that it will pass very quickly, even though you probably don't feel like it will just now). Must admit to not looking forward to the night time feeding rigmarole again, but it's only a few months isn't it? (hopefully!) or in the case of my DD1 she slept from 7pm-7am from about 9 wks. We used to try and wake her at 11pm for a feed but it was hopeless so just gave up. Unfortunately not so lucky with DD2 who would still have a bottle in the night if I offered - funny how different kids can be even when treated exactly the same............but hey ho. Anyway hope you're doing fine. H looks like an absolutely beautiful boy by the way x

Jael · 29/04/2009 12:35

I might be able to get on and post again later, if not, i'll talk to you all in just over a week hopefully. I'm going to be in a long time with this CS as I'm having to see the neurologist in there too. I've got to be at the hospital for 7am tomorrow morning, which means i'll probably get zero sleep tonight, cuz I'm still worrying like mad about the spinal. I've posted my mobile number on facebook if anyone wants to contact me with any gossip etc love to you all, Jael XX

Good lucky Dandy and Jael.

Blotted, when I need thick icing, I cheat and use the powdered royal icing powder.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/04/2009 13:09

Hope all goes well Dandy and I love your idea for a thread title.

Belgian it was me asking about the Dutch thing, although I should have said Flemish. Apologies!

Jael Helllloooooooo! Huge hugs to you, I'll be thinking of you, let's hope all goes well and the migraines clear up.

Spangle Big kisses for Harvey (even if he is smelly and grizzly).

dandy When my waters went last time...I think it was just my hind water as they said they had to break them later (was confused) However, for me, I was lying in bed. I felt and heard a pop noise...I ran to the bathroom and made it just in time for a gush. It was different from peeing. I don?t know how to explain it. I sat there laughing my head off cause it just kept flowing so I could not stand up. DH called the hospital. I put on a pad and we went in. I had to sit on towels in the car and I did slowly fill pads. I was sent home as contractions had not really started yet. I was just getting period like pains. This went on for over 24 hours...slowly leaking. I was told this is because your body keeps producing fluid. Sometimes it slowed down but I was filling pads. So, I would say just keep an eye on it. Hope my experience helps! Oh and also...it kinda smells sweet...so if you want smell your pad. You will be able to tell if it is urine or not!

After typing all that I see that you have left lol Hope all goes well!

FiKelly · 29/04/2009 13:32

Just dropped ds to pre-school so i've actually got nearly a couple of hours to myself for a change! I can't do any washing as the flooring is going down and there is no point in dusting as the coving guys will create heaps more tomorrow! SO guilt free bliss... i can put my feet up with a few cuppa's and a pile of cookies and MN

dandy i've prob missed you but sending you hugs and wishing you loads of good luck anyway.

Off to catch up with last lot of news i've missed...

frazzledoldbag · 29/04/2009 14:01

Good luck dandy and also jael - fingers crossed for you both.
Just had a visit from my midwife (to supposedly discuss my fictional homebirth) - but DH wasn't here and after discussing it in depth with her I think I've decided I can't take the full responsibility for the 'what if, what if' something goes wrong which DH keeps harping on so have agreed to go look at the newly opened midwife led unit at the hosp in the morning. It sounds lovely with 2 birthing pools and big special floor mattresses (or something?) to lie on instead of beds. Will report back once I've seen it but it sounds really nice and might be a good compromise. (Lorraine Kelly opening it last week apprently!) There is also a little postnatal unit with 4 beds attached so wouldn't have to go to the ward, or could in fact just come home from the delivery room if I want.
Off to buy some rasp leaf capsules now. Baby's head is down but not fully engaged apparently which is all good for a 3rd one. Midwife also offered me a sweep at 39 wks if I want one.............having said never again, maybe I'm starting to weaken on that one.........
fi enjoy your cuppas and cookies - am really jealous! I need to go out and there isn't a biscuit in my house.

SpangleMaker · 29/04/2009 14:09

Frazz Grumpy thanks for the thoughts & kisses for H I guess I'm not doing too badly, I'm generally feeling better than expected considering the lack of sleep. I'm not great company for DH of an evening though - both socially and the other We kept things going ok when I was pregnant but at the minute I can't imagine when I'll have the time or ability to stay awake even when the inclination is there!

I've put a couple of photos of Harvey on my MN profile to send you all virtual labour vibes

Jael good luck with your CS tomorrow xx

Dandy I'll have missed you now, but good luck, update us when you can.

Detsy no worries, I know what it's like - I don't even know what day it is any more! We'll have to get together when things have settled down with our LOs.

FiKelly · 29/04/2009 14:10

I love the mayday mayday thread title

frazzle the mw unit sounds like one of those home from home type ones... and the birthing pools they have in them are usually ginormous! I'm too high risk to use the one our hospital has but if my vbac goes as quick as some have been recently who knows they also might not have time to read my notes to realise this

with everyone seeming to be kicking off early i wonder who will be the first if any of us to actually run late or on their due date!

FiKelly · 29/04/2009 14:13

spangle it was quite a while before either dh or i had the energy or inclination to do anything frisky. He felt the sleep deprivation as much as me even though he wasn't the one getting up to do feeds it still woke him anyway and he doesn't find it easy to get back to sleep. Then he'd be off to work for a rest before coming home to more sleep deprived nights...

Tummum · 29/04/2009 14:14

Afternoon everyone. I'm back from the hospital, and all is OK. The consultant was a bit of a pompous arse, didn't bother to introduce himself, started to prod my belly then got his med student to do the same without even asking, which really naffed me off! I know it sounds stupid but I felt a bit violated - like a piece of meat.

Had a growth scan too and although LO is a 'decent size' they are not worried about that, they were more concerned about my BP but because I have no protein in urine, there's not a problem really. So I have been sent off with some wee strips to do every day and call someone if there is a + on the protein side of things and all is back to normal. Yay ! He also offered to do a VE but he was such a git I refused, but will get the midwife to have a go tomorrow as I am going for yet another check.

I am feeling all crampy and poked about now, so off for a bath.

Sorry it's a me me me post again, will catch up properly later

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/04/2009 14:15

Fi I've always presumed I'll go over my due date, 42+ with both of the others, so there is a precedent there. Hurrumph . I could even be looking at June

Spangle awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I looked at the photos. So lovely.
