Thanks for the update Mr J. Hope you're doing ok too.

WOnder how Looby is getting on....

So, I am sat here in floods of tears . The reason....I'm only watching babies being born on Baby Time on Discovery Home and Health . Why do I do this to myself?

Great to hear of all the lovely names flying about. We have a short list of four names, with two favourites. BUT....my favourite combination leads to an unfavourable set of initial letters. Does it really matter that the initials (including surname) would be B.O.G??? What do you think?

Detsy I (think I) lost my cervical plug over the weekend. It was thick jelly consistency off-white/yellow/cream colour and a HUUUGGGE blob (perhaps 50p piece size), then a smaller bit later. Nice .

Anyone doing anything today? I'm considering cleaning the windows. Things must be bad.

Reggiee · 21/04/2009 08:09

Ohhh Momino - v exciting!! "Gloopy mass" pmsl, that's so polite .

Gert2a · 21/04/2009 08:37

Morning all,

It's Ikea for me today. Determined to get some material for curtains and get them made, it's playing on my mind so need to do it before next week.

Reggiee - feel free to pop round to do my windows once you've done yours!

FiKelly · 21/04/2009 08:40

detsy I love the wardrobe stuff too.. managing to get my fix by buying the drawers organising stuff as ds needs a chest of drawers too.

the full story on our neighbour probs last night.. basically angie who lives upstairs (but not over our flat) is going through a rough time. her father is dying and her mum isn't well. her teenage kids have been using her flat as a party place with their pals as we are close to town and know she's spending a lot of time at the grandparents. she rented upstairs just a few months ago. the other day she gave me her mobile no incase there were any probs when she wasn't here.. well last night my neighbour at the back of the building rang us in a state. one of the kids had been dropping lit fireworks out of their window into the garden below and on the roof of said neighbours conservatory! woke their 2.5yr old with a real fright and scared the c* out of him. I contacted angie who was mortified but it couldn't have been a worse time for her as her dad wasn't expected to last the night. poor lady was in tears
her ex was despatched to deal with kids.. who must have got the shock of their lives as they didn't know we could contact angie . shortly after ex arrived all kids were kicked out of angie 's flat and all went quiet for the night. feel so sorry for angie as she's such a lovely lady and shocked at her kids who are adding to her stress levels rather than helping their mum through this incredibly hard time. I hope her ex gave them hell..

Reggiee · 21/04/2009 08:42

Gert - Ikea? You are a brave woman. Give me windows any day (I love Ikea but hate the crowds. Although I guess Tues am is a good time to go - enjoy). Will you make the curtains yourself . Keep meaning to say I'm booked in at LGI btw.

Think I might go back to bed now. All this thought of window cleaning

Reggiee · 21/04/2009 08:43

Fi that sounds like a nightmare. Poor woman but grrrr stupid kids

Jennster · 21/04/2009 08:45

Is there a Monarch Of The Glen theme going on with names what with Hector and Archie . I love Hector, but wouldn't name a child that is going to have a Lancashire accent that.

Jennster · 21/04/2009 08:51

Gert Good luck with Ikea. The animal material Ikea does isn't big enough for my windows so had to spend a whopping £20 on fabric. I bought some lovely orange ticking, and then asked my mum if she would help me make them. She retired in January and is always talking about getting her machine out again. Anyway the other day she came over, we bought the black out lining, heading tape, then cut and pinned them. Making curtains is great bum in air stuff but not if you have reflux! Anyway she said she was a bit rusty, so took them home and has nearly done them without me. . I think a small project like a little A-line dress for dd is on the cards next.

Jennster · 21/04/2009 08:55

birth pools I need a little advice.
I have my birth pool, and nearly everything that goes with it. Reading the instructions, I need a thermometer (which I thought came with it) and a blanket to insulate the stone floor before the waterproof mat goes down. I don't really have any blankets I want to use on the floor, so was wondering if some bright spark could think of a cheap alternative. I need to cover 3x2metres. I was thinking underlay, or carpet offcuts perhaps from freecycle, or maybe you can buy something from a garden or diy store that would suit? Lagging? Any ideas ladies?

1stMrsF · 21/04/2009 09:11

Thanks for encouragement - I know I can always post here and get a nice positive comment back; it really helps doesn't it?

Tummum I wondered if they would turn again but the consultant didn't seem to think it was an option. As Belgian says, you wouldn't think they would have any room for any acrobatics in there (although they manage to stomp all over my organs most days)

Frazzled try Healthspan.co.uk for your purchases - not sure they will have everything, but they are usually very good value as they are based in the Channel Islands and so VAT free. Hollland & Barratt also have website, but doesn't sell all the stock of the shops.

LOL at "oral intervention" conversation. Not appealing is it?

Jennster · 21/04/2009 09:18

Frazzled Holland and Barret have been out of stock of Raspberry leaf tablets for weeks now at the warehouse anyway. Sorry I can't help with sourcing any more. belgian suggested a local independent health food shop might be better. That's where I got mine from.

1stMrsF Sorry must have missed about your acrobatic little ones. The main thing is you are prepared before hand though? I know ideally you would have tried vaginal delivery, but being prepared for an elective cs is much preferable to an emergency cs. Think Pula will back that up. Good luck!

1stMrsF · 21/04/2009 09:23

Jennster, we just bought some underlay for laminate flooring that was just sort of flexible polystyrene type stuff (can't think of a better way of describing). Just looked on website and it was a bit more than I remember paying - £15, but you may be able to get a smaller quantity for less or get some from freecyle? Something like this: www.wickes.co.uk/Wall-Tiles/Flooring-Underlay-Roll/invt/620801 Also I would try carpet shops for offcuts of carpet or underlay.

1stMrsF · 21/04/2009 09:24

Cross post! Yes, I agree, if I'm going to have a cs, much better to know about it than have emergency.

Tummum · 21/04/2009 09:33

Jennster I have similar issue with birthing pool and am planning to use old duvet underneath my pool to insulate a bit. I also haven't a thermometer - maybe the meat thermometer will be ok?!?

Thanks mr Jael for update. Poor girl. Sounds really horrible. Hope she gets the diagnosis and treatment she needs asap.

Wonder how looby is getting on.

Morning all. Just got everyone off to school and nursery and work and have already had an electrician in! Now waiting for the joiner and Mr Tesco with some food....
Thans MrsF for the tip about Healthspan. Never heard of that one so will give it a go.
and jennster thanks also for that tip about H&B - am definitely not going to treck over there in the car if they are out of stock!
also Jennster can you not just borrow a picnic blanket or old bedspread off someone to save you having to buy something? or what about trying a charity shop for an old blanket, quilt or similar - bet you could pick something up for pennies? (or if you lived anywhere near me I could lend you something suitable, I've got masses of stuff like that.....but I don't think you're in Scotland are you?)

Ikea must make a fortune out of nesting pg ladies - I hadn't been for about 3 years and now that's me visited twice in a week! Just need to build the bloody stuff now.....
Off to paint a chest of drawers and kids table and chairs now whilst waiting for Mr T to bring me tea and croissants for breakfast (bum, forgot to order jam).
Have a good day. x x

frazzledoldbag · 21/04/2009 09:37

OH and BTW I'm pretty surprised at how many of you seem to like Hector - it is definitely growing on me. I like Tor for a shortened version, but would hate it if anyone called him 'Hec' which I think is vile.......I guess that's the one thing that's putting me off. And I still love Felix too........but don't want to be seen as 'copying' anyone else. Grrrrrrrrrrr it's so, so hard.

frazzledoldbag · 21/04/2009 09:40

Oh and momino I said over a week ago I thought you'd be next - better get a move on and get those contractions started if you want to beat looby to it! Hope looby and jael are ok this morn too. Exciting that all these 'plugs' are being 'lost' - wish mine would show signs of moving but it's a bit early for me still (boo hiss).
Right am off now.
[frazz talking to herself AGAIN]

Gert2a · 21/04/2009 09:45

Last week I got all excited and went to local health store and bought raspberry leaf tablets. The next day I made the decision to go for elcs - so can no longer take them.

They haven't been touched (took the foil off the top to have a sniff). 60 tablets 750g. More than happy to send them to whoever wants them (don't want any money for them as they would only sit in my cupboard and go out of date, so someone should make use of them).

Would anyone like them?

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 21/04/2009 09:55

Morning all. I cannot believe how much there is to catch up on since about 4pm yesterday afternoon!

frazzled you asked for honesty re Hector _ i couldn't. I used to have a goldfish called hector and so although it makes me smile, I'm not sure I could call a baby boy it! I do love Felix though. DH has an adorable nephew with that name. Its cool.

I wonder how Looby is getting on? Can't wait for an update.

I have a pregnancy massage booked for later on this morning. A whole hour and a half. It was utter bliss when I had one two weeks ago, and you can properly forget you are actually pregnant for a bit.

Quick q re leg hair growth.. has anyone else noticed a slow down? I had mine waxed over 4 weeks ago and there is hardly any regrowth. I always wax and by 4 weeks normally there would be enough to do another wax. I have a waxing session booked for next week, but at this rate, I may not need it. Not sure about my lady garden though. I need to try and inspect that!

Jennster · 21/04/2009 09:58

Frazz was it you wanting the fast post natal recovery hypnotherapy CD? I have it and will copy and post it to you if you send me your address. I'm on the facebook site, but not sure if you are.

Thanks for the tips on the birthpool. It's frustrating, that when we moved we got rid of a load of duvets to the charity shop, and now we need them. We might still have something suitable. Anyway I've posted on Freecycle so will see what comes up.

chocolatebunnies · 21/04/2009 11:01

Hello Everyone.

Gerta Id be interested in them please if no-one else wants them, but can you check that they are suitable for Coeliacs, that they don't contain gluten/wheat. Id paypal you the postage cost

lady helen my leg hairs have slowed right down this pregnancy, and my nails are gorwing like nobodys business, which is very bizarre for me!

jennster yes, it was me talking about the postnatal recovery cd. If you don't mind I'll send you my address on facebook today - and let me know how much you'd like for it and I'll either paypal you or send a cheque. That's fab thank you
ladyhelen am chuckling at your fish called Hector! Funnily enough I love the name Bruno but DD has a hamster called that! So that's another NO. I love Felix but unfortunately also have a step-nephew called that - still in turmoil about whether or not that matters......haven't seen him for years.

Keep thinking about looby too - wonder if she's had the baby yet? Ooooh, am sending lovely quick labour vibes her way

Belgianchocolates · 21/04/2009 11:21

Morning everyone,

for some reason MN was stuck this am and I couldn't get on at all. Gosh there's been lots of talking since 9 last night!

LadyHelen I've got the same with my leg hairs and eye brows too. I've only had to have my eye brows done twice since getting preg! Normally it's more like every 3 weeks. Unfortunately my ladygarden is as prolific as always.

Thanks mr jael for keeping us up to date about Jael. I hope you've got some results soon.

My dh has been lucky enough to get some action the last few nights. Unfortunately it's not doing anything whatsoever. The other 2 came after 1/2 nights of action. Very of those of you who've had shows, etc... I have been having B/H but nothing painful, but then at the same time I never had anything but a show a couple of days before my other 2 either. My feeling is this lo is waiting for my mum to arrive on friday.

Lots of name discussions last night. Personally I wouldn't choose Hector, though I do like just Tor. My dh wants lo to be called Michael (Mick) or Joanne. Not sure about it Michael and I definitely don't like Joanne. Joanne just seems to be a bit oldfashioned now and I know far to many Jo's as it is.

I was going to go to Bravissimo today, but it's starting to get a bit late now to go all the way over there from here.

I really wish I had some more summery mat clothing, because it's soooo lovely out there, but at a day short of 38 weeks it seems a bit silly to go and spend money on short sleeved stuff. Maybe I could buy 1 or 2 nursing tops so I can use them afterwards?

Tomorrow the photographer is coming with the results of my photoshoot. I wonder what they'll look like. I'll definitely post them on the f/b pages once I've got my copies.

frazzledoldbag · 21/04/2009 11:27

Oh and by the way while I remember does anyone know anything about 'Silverettes'? I'm thinking of buying some from Breastfeeding Heaven online (the only place I've seen them) as they're meant to work wonders for treating/preventing nipple trauma and even thrush.....they are meant to be at some of the baby shows too (birmingham and london) but don't seem to be on the list for the Glasgow baby show at the weekend. Anyway if anyone has any experiences of them let me know - they are quite expensive (£29.99) for a pair but apparently are on special offer of £10 at the baby shows. They are like little silver nipple shields (bizarre idea) but according to the website work wonders....anyone know more?
