Hello Everyone,

How is everyone today? Hope you all had a good weekend.

Good to see you back Belgian Looby Sorry today isnt going how you had planned, hope they can get you in later.

Someone asked further up the thread how my going out escapades were going, think is was Dandy sorry my brain is well and truly pregnancy addled! Its going really well, feeling a lot more confident now! Thank you for asking!

Im getting quite anxious about the impending birth now, feel rather silly as I've already done it once before so should be able to do it again no problems (wishful thinking)

So wedding is next Friday, yep literally counting down the days now, scary huh! Must start getting organised!

llareggub · 20/04/2009 11:32

So, when is your virtual hen do, chocolatebunnies? Cocktail theme, of course! Glad to hear you are feeling more confident. I bet the good weather is helping, too.

Belgianchocolates · 20/04/2009 11:51

chocbunnies I was wondering how your wedding plans were getting along only just the other day. Have you managed to get your dress altered or found a good bra to go under it?

looby hope you've got good news soon. Oh and I've got a surprise on board, though I'm convinced it's a boy.

Dh is collecting our new Zafira as we speak. A bit sad that my lovely little corsa has gone now, but it's nice to have a lovely shiny nearly new car! (only 08 reg, the newest I've ever had!)

I'm joining who ever it was on their ball in the sun! Our stairgate seems to be working so far in keeping the chickens off the decking.

Still waiting for that cmw, it's not my normal one as far as I was told. It said am in my notes, but it's nearly pm now...

sausagenmash · 20/04/2009 12:16

Hello all! So I'm day one of maternity leave, and it feels like I'm skiving! Wooohooo! Dp is being LOVELY and emailing me lots, and has got me some goodies - he recorded the whole series of 'The Thorn Birds' on sky planner for me, has bought me a jigsaw covered in puppies (he wants me to relax!) some puzzle books I'm addicted to, and also Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth!) on dvd. Have also got rules to adhere to, eg, no hoovering, no cleaning, no stretching up for stuff, go for a walk every day blah blah blah. The fridge and freezer are full of yummy food for my lunches as well. Good grief, this is a new man! Feel mean about moaning about him last week

Looby hope you go in soon!

Glad all is ok, Belgian!

No signs of anything at all yet (am 35 weeks this Wednesday) but mooching about in Bromley yesterday, I couldn't walk very fast and was very waddly. My brother is popping over for a cuppa on Wednesday afternoon - haven't seen him since Christmas - he knows I'm pregnant, but he's still going to get a shock!

Feeling a bit with regards to all the post birth labour ward stories! I'm absolutely disgusted that everyone has received care like this! Am going to be a crap patient - being on a ward in the hospital where I work!! Am a bolshie wotsit at the best of times! Have instructed all my paediatrician friends that if they hear from me, they are to come to the ward NOW!! Any more nice stories for us first timers? Am beginning to not want to read this thread...!! Booooooo.....

SpangleMaker · 20/04/2009 12:21

chocbunnies ooh your wedding is close now. You must be getting excited.

looby sorry to hear of yet another day in limbo. Harvey had to have blood sugar tests as he was early but they did them on the ward. Thankfully they stayed normal even though he wasn't getting enough colostrum. I thought they only had to go to SCBU if the blood sugar levels were abnormal - but obviously I'm no expert. I think the problem with some hospitals is that they have their processes to follow and people seem unwilling to make a decision to part from them. Lovely bump btw - and your garden is beautiful!

llare sorry to hear of your family problems. Hope they can sort things out

Right - possibly TMI, but I need some advice please, ladies! Have been suffering from constipation since H was born. I get the impression this is quite normal, am I right? I think there's a psychological effect too from not wanting to do anything that resembles pushing down there Anyway, improving diet has improved things a bit but I think i need some help! Do any of you know which products are ok to use while bf-ing & which is best? I think Fybogel is ok?

chocolatebunnies · 20/04/2009 12:33

sausage am v.v.v.v of you with your lovely DP! Mine leaves me lists of things to do,rather than not! Hmph!!

belgian it would seem I am 'growing' into the dress now lol! So it doesnt need altering now, just need to get measured for a bra, not really sure how to go about it, I don't want the 'no underwire' lecture from whoever measures me, its for one day!

Llare Indeed, the weather has been beautiful here the last three days, its gorgeous! Im having my real - life hen do on Friday, me and about 10 girl friends are going bowling! How retro indeed! DP is out for his stag night on Saturday so I reckon my virtual one for then!

Talking of DP's Stag Night, you married ladies, one word for you, Stripers, how does one deal with this topic???

I guess Im not the only woman in the world who isnt happy about the idea, especially being 37 weeks pregnant, the thought of him oggling some half naked skinny woman actually makes me feel really depressed, she says sat here resting laptop on her hugmongus bump, but I cant stop him can I? How can I deal with it??

My hormones are a little all over the place at the moment, something you can all relate too I think, DP came back from footy on Saturday to find my sat crying my eyes out because, Id lost the remote control, madi was out and the tv was stuck on Cbeebies, Id given myself really bad heartburn crawling around looking for it, and Id got myself into such a state about it, it turns out I was sat on it not literally, but it had gone under the sofa cushion and was right in the middle, directly under my bum!

Belgianchocolates · 20/04/2009 12:36

Well, the cmw has been. Baby is still head down, but I knew that myself. It felt like that. She's happy for me to continue with the homebirth plan, because like me she feels the growth scan is overestimating my baby's weight and because it's my informed choice and she said they can't refuse a h/b if that's what I want. What a refreshing change from so many other mum's experiences. So now I can chill, relax and wait for it all to kick off.

sausage I had a good experience 1st time around and if I were to have to go to hospital I know I'm going to be treated well, because I know all the staff One of the perks of the job I suppose, to make up for all the free overtime I've been doing.
Actually sausage I remember not too long ago I forgot to warn a paed that one of the mums was a paediatric nurse and so he went to see her about a problem and explained everything in simple language. Afterwards he noticed she was a nurse and felt really embarrased and told me off for it. I just thought it was funny that he felt he was making a fool of himself!

Jennster · 20/04/2009 12:36

spangle Sorry to hear you are little bunged up. Lactulose and fybogel are both fine with breastfeeding. If it's a particularly stubborn case and you don't have a problem with them, then you might consider glycerin suppositories too. You must make sure you are drinking enough fluids for the above laxitives to work though. They don't get absorbed by the body, they draw water into the large bowel and soften the stool, making it easier to pass. Gentle exercise and you didn't have cs did you? You can do gentle clockwise rubbing of your tummy.

Belgianchocolates · 20/04/2009 12:41

chocbunnies Nice to hear you've grown into your dress. Just ignore the no underwire lecture, I'm sure that if you tell them it's for a one off, i.e. your wedding day, they'll be perfectly OK about it. We're all up and down I think, although now baby's head down I'm feeling a bit more up at the mo .

Spangle fybogel is fine when bf. We give a combination of fybogel and lactulose to mums with 3rd degree tears who need help as they can't really do any straining to protect their stitches, IYKWIM.

Talking about bras. I need to book myself into Bravissimo for a measuring session, I still haven't got a nursing bra and it's only 2 weeks and 2 days before I've reached my due date!

Gert2a · 20/04/2009 12:42

Reggiee I'm giving birth at Dewsbury (only 10 minutes away from me even in rush hour!). Whereabouts are you and where are you giving birth?

Chocbunnies very excited for you and your wedding! Speaking of cocktails and hen do's I used some lush pina colada body wash this morning - not quite as good as a real pina colada to drink - but not bad!

Belgian happy new car - very jealous. We are now in a position to buy our car, but we need to do some hard work to find the ideal car at the right price, so it's going to mean visiting a lot of car auctions and doing some bidding. Exciting to do, but not so tempting when there are so many other things to think about right now! We'll make do for as long as we have to with our old Passat (he's a beast!)

Am now having big debate with self whether to go to children's centre to breast feeding group. Feel a fraud going when I have no one to breast feed! Maybe will wait til LO is here? Or there's always next monday afternoon as long as I haven't gone into labour naturally by then.

There are many big wasps around today. They keep coming in the house and I have to talk nicely to them so they leave. Maybe a similar gate to Belgian's for the hens would work?

llareggub · 20/04/2009 12:42

Looby I've spoken to the Head of Midwifery at my hospital following my last post, and she has agreed that DS can be monitored on the ward as I feel so strongly about it.

Belgianchocolates · 20/04/2009 12:43

Ah, jenn has beat me to it and I can't really add any more to it. Definitely drink plenty of fluids, with bf and the warmer weather at the moment too.

Belgianchocolates · 20/04/2009 12:45

gert2a Go to the bf group. It'll be the best thing you've done to prepare yourself for b/f. Nothing beats watching mums actually breastfeed as preparation to breastfeeding. My own group that I used to attend had pregnant mums going too and they actually always said they enjoyed it, both because they had a good idea what a bf baby looked like and because it made it less daunting to come it with a new baby after the birth. I always advise women to go ante natally if they can. So GO!!!

Gert2a · 20/04/2009 12:48

Thanks Belgian that's exactly what I needed to hear/read! Will head up there in an hour!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 20/04/2009 12:48

Hi!

Enjoying the sun here too

sausagenmash - I'm also v of your DP. My DH just keeps telling me how jealous he is of me not being at work. I've asked him id he wants to swap and be pg and give birth instead...

Spangle - good advice there from Jennster. I do find the circular motion on the tummy works suprisingly well.

chocolatebunnies - re strippers, do you know that they have this planned? IME stag nights tend to be more talk than anything actually happening. I tried to keep an open mind for DH's stag do as had no idea what was planned and I was a bit worried about this. At the end of the day though I know that he loves me for me and who I am rather than my looks (although I don't think I completely turn him off )

Belgian - glad you've got the support of the CMW for your HB

We've got our tour of the ante natal unit this evening followed by a bf session with NCT.

chocolatebunnies · 20/04/2009 12:55

Ses As far as Im aware its a pub crawl starting with watching the footy at 5.30, no-one has mentioned a stripper, not even him, but I have a feeling it may brought up during the next few days, it would appear I don't turn him off either at the moment and it wouldn't be his idea if there was one, I just kow what his mates are like! I dont wanna be the bad guy and ruin his night IYKWIM by saying no, but it does worry me, I am hormonal as well which prob doesnt help!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 20/04/2009 12:59

It is a difficult one and I know most women in the last few weeks of pg (myself definitely included) who's hormones do exacerbate feelings of about how other women look and DPs looking at them. If you can, I think you just have to trust that deep down you know if won't mean anything to him and it would just be blokes being blokes. I know that's easier said than done though!

chocolatebunnies · 20/04/2009 13:02

Maybe I should get one too . . . . lol!

sausagenmash · 20/04/2009 13:04

Belgian - good to hear you had a good experience! Am hoping that going to the place where I work will work positively for me, rather than negatively!

Also, got my first nct class tonight - dp doesn't want to go, but is coming. Is about time he learns something - he hasn't looked at any of the books or mags etc, and he only held a baby once, for about 30 seconds, last year for the first time. Steep learning curve coming up....!!

Ooof. Am being headbutted in the la la area...

Jennster · 20/04/2009 13:05

chocolate If you don't put him off, then why not make sure he's erm 'serviced' before he goes out?

chocolatebunnies · 20/04/2009 13:07

ooooo jennster im eating my lunch! lol!

I put out on Saturday, what more can he want lol!

Jennster · 20/04/2009 13:09
Grin
chocolatebunnies · 20/04/2009 13:12

I suppose it might be worth it lol!

Poor man nearly had a heartattack on Saturday when I suggested it (god knows what I was thinking, moment of madness?) think he'd just assumed that he wouldn't be getting any for a while like when I was pregnant the first time!lol!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 20/04/2009 13:13

Maybe we could provide you with some suggestions....
I think I'd go for one of these...

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 20/04/2009 13:15

sausagenmash - my DH didn't want to go to NCT either and made such a fuss but he hasn't missed one yet and we've done 4 so far. Tonight's is a bf one and all the guys have decided to go to the pub together instead though!
My DH hasn't admitted to enjoying them or learning anything but I can tell from his body language that he thinks they're worthwhile.
