Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I was busy eBaying! And for the last 15mins I've been locked in my bedroom with my bum up in the air. Gosh my back hurts now from that weight hanging off it. Dd thought it was funny though.

Fi If you had a pph then an actively managed 3rd stage is definitely recommended. You would have had one with your c/s too, at c/s the 3rd stage is always an actively managed one, but of course that doesn't guarantee you're not going to have a PPH.

Jael As for reusable nappies. I also think it's a local authority initiative, not a national one.

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 15:51

Lol, ds just came in. DH is making him work too much he says. He wants money (for dinosaur king cards), you see and DH said he could earn some helping with the building work!

Jael · 09/04/2009 15:51

I found it lol I went on my councils website, feel so stupid now! It says that they give £30. But I'm actually more confused than ever now, It doesn't say where I have to buy them from, so I take it I buy them from anywhere, keep reciepts etc and they'll refund £30... and after searching the net, I don't even know where to start...I used disposables with DD, I have never even put a "real nappy" on a child, there's too many kinds out there, I don't know what I actually need, how many, oh jeez, this is probably what made us use disposables...I've got 3 weeks today until baby comes, and to try and save some money I'd like to try reusuables, can someone please help me?lol

FiKelly · 09/04/2009 15:51

right.. must drag myself off sofa.. hang out washing and start stroganoff [slowly heaves very unwilling body off comfy sofa]

runningmonkey · 09/04/2009 15:53

Jael Try whoever it is you pay your council tax too. unfortunately I had a v unsatisfactory email reply from mine saying they used to but didn't anymore!!

I am soooooo tired today, have marked 4 exam papers. Only about another 45 to go just can't be bothered at all. Really want to go to sleep but have to wait for plumber to come around (he said sometime between 4 and 6!)

Glad your daughter is ok flippin

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 15:59

For any one who's got a breech baby. One of my colleagues refered me to the Denise Tiran website (expectancy.co.uk) for a DIY guide to moxibustion to turn a breech baby. I'm going to have a go I think.

runningmonkey · 09/04/2009 15:59

Am far too slow today xposts with about a million people!

Jael give the council a ring and ask them to explain it to you. You could also try this website www.thenappylady.co.uk I there is a user guide which you can download which is quite uesful and also they do an advice service which I used but didn't find so useful as they didn't recommend anything wihtin my budget (I don't work for them or anythign). The other place to look is the grossly named www.usednappies.co.uk which I think someone on here pointed me to. Its a bit like ebay for reusable nappies.

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:04

Jael It is very confusing this reusable nappy business, isn't it. There is so much more choice in types since I had dd too, so I was equally confused. I asked for some advice on here on the nappy threads and someone posted a link on here a while ago to a good site. I can't remember the name of it though, but I'm sure that who ever it was will pop back soon and give it again This nappy talk reminds me. It's about time I bought some wraps for my nappies. I've got about 10 bamboozles (or something like it) and no outer wraps.

fi I know what you mean. I came back online to look for a mackerel recipe. We've got a fresh fish man that comes every week and dh bought some mackarel. I wanted to do something different and a bit more tasty with it today.

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:05

Ah look. There's running with a couple of websites. I'll have to have a look on the used nappies site myself for some wraps.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 09/04/2009 16:08

well think thats it for now, hope everyones ok and resting lots. not long to go now specially for some of you!

FiKelly · 09/04/2009 16:11

thanks belgian i thought that might be the case.. at bum in air.. IKWYM about the ow. i'm alright when down on all fours but then struggle with getting back up!

jael don't panic.. there are just a few basic types of real nappies then different brands of those types. i'd recommend twinkle on the web for info.. on my phone at mo and don't have link bookmarked here.. basic types are 1. terry squares with addition of waterproof outer cover. 2. shaped nappies.. fastening with poppers or velcro or just plain no fastenings so you can use nappy nippa then waterproof outer cover. 3. all in one shaped stuffables or pocket types. you stuff an absorbent pad between outer waterproof and inner non absorbent layer that are joined together already and nappy goes on in one go like a disposable one.

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:11

That website also has a good guide about raspberry leaf tea look

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:26

Oh and Hi, matthewandbumpsmummy don't worry about catching up. Just jump in where we are at now At least you know the most important news: spangle has had her baby!

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:28

Ah, look. It's me talking to myself now. I suppose that'll teach me for not doing what I'm supposed to do: i.e. preparing a delicious and nutritious meal of mackerel and some other mystery ingredient that I haven't thought of yet

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 16:29

2nd time I said: Ah look in less than an hour. I have to stop saying that.

Oh and I just noticed we've gone past the 900 posts mark. Time to think of another thread title I think.

runningmonkey · 09/04/2009 16:43

Belgian Im still here, although have just been reading that raspberry leaf tea article so thanks! Have just started on one cup a day as I was given sim advice elsewhere. I actually quite like it, does that make me a wierdo?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 09/04/2009 16:49

Hello all

belgian at you with your bum in the air! I was a breech baby by the way, no CS for my mum, she had to push me out somehow - I had one leg up at an angle which made it very awkward. She always said I was an awkward sod from the start .

My post earlier was tres smug, wasn't it? I do apologise. If it makes anyone feel any better, I have had atrocious diarrhoea this afternoon. Also, I had awful wind last night - I think it's probably along the lines of chocbunnies and I can fully understand why she thought it may actually be labourish pains.

matthewandbumpsmummy lovely to hear from you again. Don't worry about anything, we're just a bunch of gasbags on here

OP posts:
runningmonkey · 09/04/2009 16:51

re thread title: its gotta be something about bums in the air and wind surely!

FiKelly · 09/04/2009 17:01

stroganoff underway and smell seems to be driving our dog absolutely crazy he's parked himself in the kitchen next to the cooker!

rosielady · 09/04/2009 17:06

Jael re: the RESUABLE NAPPIES.

I used with DS 1 but only after a few months - so take the pressure off - there's no rush!

I intend to use disposables just til I get into the swing of things again with the newborn, and then when I am ready, get the resusables out again.

Our council had a really good booklet available as a pdf to download from the website.

if you cut and paste here:
www.clacksweb.org.uk/site/documents/wastemanagement/realnappies/

and then select the 'A guide to using real nappies' pdf you will get it.

this is a good link also for advice and where in your area stock them:

www.realnappycampaign.com/

What I did do in the beginning was try a couple out - bought from Boots and then bought bigger batches on ebay - there's a good little market for reselling and buying nappies!

Found they were great until DS 1 went into toddler room at nursery about 1.5yrs old - as they didnt have much time to be washing out nappies all day - and I felt guilty as I was getting lazy at the weekends myself - back onto disposables - so I couldnt expect the nursery to do it if I wasnt! However worked out good for me for about a year or so and I will do again with new arrival.

Hope this helps.

Tummum · 09/04/2009 17:14

Both DC in front of telly (again watching the Lion King after a crazy day of child care. How am I going to cope over the next 4 days??

Have just ordered the bits and bobs I need for the WB as technically from tomorrow I can have my HB.

Re thread title I think something with bums and air and wind would be perfect.

FiK stroganoff sounds yummy - how do you make it?? Is there loads of garlic involved - Yum !

Looby 9 days - how exciting ! It is nice to know a date rather than hanging around waiting for mother nature to take it's course

ebaying I have just gone through DC clothes and really should put them on ebay but just can't be arsed !! My excuse is that this LO might turn out to be a girl and then I would be annoyed at having got rid of them. I thought I didn't have many boy clothes but having gone through the old stuff the cupboard is now stuffed full. Oops. How much money have I spent on boy clothes I didn't need

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 17:28

re reusable nappies I generally do the same. I give myself a month-6 weeks to get back into the swing of things and use nature baby disposable nappies for that period of time. After that I start the reusables. Because dd used ds's nappies they were a bit worn out by the time she was 2. At that age I felt it was a bit late to get a whole lot of new nappies, so I ended up using disposables for another year or so, because she wasn't dry until she was 3.

I like a bum in the air windy thread title too

Febes · 09/04/2009 18:27

Thats what I did last time with DD I started using reusables when she was about 5-6 weeks. I used a variety of pocket and muslins folded with boosters and liners made from fleece material and nappy nippers wiith water proof wrap. I went to a nappicino session and got about 70 pounds worth for 20 pounds. I have moved since so will see if new council has any incentives. I used washables until I went back to work in sept and then went to disposables. I will try getting both DD and LO back into reusuables in a couple of months. Need to save money and will have more time when work is finished.

FiKelly · 09/04/2009 19:22

re chicken stroganoff..

fry a finely chopped onion till soft add some chopped chicken breasts, smoked paprika (1-2 heaped tsp) depending on quantity you're making, nice lots of chopped garlic and fry this all for a few mins more to bring out flavours. add 1- 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and some chicken stock. leave to simmer till chicken is cooked. add a med size pot of cream (i use extra thick) and few tsp of tomato puree. simmer some more till sauce reduces. if it needs thickening more add a bit of cornflour mixed with water first.

it was v yummy and I'm now stuffed!

Belgianchocolates · 09/04/2009 19:28

fi your stroganoff recipe sounds nice [yummy bunny emoticon]. Never had stroganoff with tomatoes before. I usually use soured cream. My mackerel wasn't as big a success.

Had another bum in the air session just now. I tried to read last time, but found I couldn't hold my book with my chest on the matress, so this time I played Tetris on my phone

My nursery was happy a for dd to go in reusable nappies, but didnt have washing facilities for them, so I used to send her with a big bag for the dirty ones and put them in the bucket as soon as we got home.
