Great scan news everyone.HCit will be amazing having 2 boys. But for your info we tried the timming method with pregnancy number 3 as we had 2 girls. Not that we minded just that we thought that we would give it a go and hey presto a boy.I have one friend who did it 4 times and got the required result every time Girl boy girl boy.It may just be good luck but it was also fun!!!yes the cold and wet in Scotland must make us a bit mad. as our mate at the garage said today when he found out that i was having a 4th."HAVEN'T YOU GOT A TELLY"it did make me laugh.sleep tight Fid x

fidelma · 19/05/2009 22:06

Sorry I mean littlemissbliss not HC

theboob · 19/05/2009 22:34

rubyslippers · 20/05/2009 07:37

x

peachespaige · 20/05/2009 07:46

Morning all.
Well We heard a lovely heart beat!!!!! Although ds2 talked loudly all the way through it "is it my turn mum, all finished yet" etc.
Also felt some prods yesterday too, to be honest I think I felt movements a week ago just needed to confirm thats what they were.
I love Delphi. My friends dp is Greek and they have a boy Sava and girl Anatacia but pronounced Annasasia.
My ds2 middle name is Joseph.
Its lovely to have 2 of the same sex close together imo, my boys are 2years 11days apart and play great super hero games, share a room, get up to mischieve etc.
Sorry to hear about food poisoning, lots of fluids.

LittleMissBliss · 20/05/2009 08:59

HC and peachesI am really looking forward to them entertaining each other, DP and his brother have a two year gap. They got on really well as kids but fought allot too. Very excited now!

Its all about names now! looking forward to the new arrival, think we'll get a few new bits but will be much cheaper this time.
Told dp that we don't have to move now as they can share a room. Which I'd prefer. But a bigger garden is still important to us so we'll see.

I also really like the name Delphi! Tis lovely!

Seems Joseph is a popular choice amoungst us!
I have always loved it and it's great that its a family name too!

Halfmum hope you feel better soon, i think you should take a day off work and put your feet up!

Morning Everyone

fidelma Ahhh all the miss haps, I?m sorry, you must have been so mad, but I?m glade all went well with the scan, when ever I read everyone?s comments on the scans I get so excited and impatient for my turn

LittleMissBliss Congratulations on the results, a boy that?s well sweet?

Sassj It feels like we?re sort of in the same boat, my mother in-law had 5 sons, no daughters, and they all very keen on me having a boy, to put it in her exact words (I?d much prefer boys as I don?t really know to much about girls) it hurt a little as I am looking forward to having a girl, but needless to say what ever the results it will still be a blessing as its only my first. Good luck with the scan, ill be watching for your results in 2 weeks.

smallone · 20/05/2009 09:46

Hi all,
Scan was fine yesterday but it took FOREVER! Don't know if the woman was new but she was certainly overcautious. With DD it took about 20mins but this time took 2hrs! Its 30 mins to and from the hosp so all in all it took all afternoon. Very glad I managed to get dd to a friends as I was planning on taking her with us, and that would have been a nightmare!

The problems were in checking babys heart and the placenta. She looked at the heart for ages, then gave up and did the rest, then went back to the heart, by this time I was asking what exactly she was looking for as I could clearly see the 4 chambers of the heart pumping away the first time, but she just said she wanted to rule out heart defects. So anyway she was tipping the table this way and that way and sending me off to have a drink and walk around, then she was happy with the heart and said she had to find my birth canal on the scan so she could check my placenta wasn't covering it. Cue more turning me upside down to scan, then she decided my bladder needed to be fuller so sent me off again to drink a pint of water. Meanwhile she started scanning someone else who she also had "trouble" with so by the time I got in there my bladder was bigger than my head and I thought if she pressed too hard I might wet myself! But anyway she decided placenta was all fine and she gave us a rubbish still as a pic to take home, baby looks like skeletor! I know I would be very grateful if any of this had led to discovering a defect but I was very close to just saying "stuff it" and leaving!

wibblydibs · 20/05/2009 11:16

Hi everyone...

Not been on for a while, but have been keeping up with all the news. We had our 20 week scan yesterday and everything seems to be just fine - we didn't find out the sex, although DD1 asked! I need a surprise at the end of pregnancy and childbirth - it helps get me through!

Have been lying low as had some bleeding at about 14 weeks and have been just holding my breath for the scan. So pleased all is well - am feeling lots of movement as well so that helps. Also been told that I'm carrying Group B Streptococcus which I'm getting conflicting information about...anyone know anything about it? And MS is still hanging around, my iron levels are low and my SPD is a nightmare already! I feel old...

Sorry...very me, me, me - maybe I should go back to lurking!

HappyTangerine · 20/05/2009 13:29

Afternoon all. Baby woke me up at 4.20am and I went for a drive, wistfully looking at all the houses I fancied that were waaaay out of our price range. Thought about going to the M & S Penny Bazaar but couldn't face the queues so went back to sleep once he'd stopped kicking so hard. We're not telling anyone IRL that we know the sex and its so hard not to say "he" when we talk about the baby!

LittleMissBliss(yay, another boy!),fidelma, smallone and wibblydibs - congrats on the scans, great news

Any news from Treats? smallone 2 hours . My bladder would not have lasted. Our scan pic isn't that great either, my mum got her copy in the post today and is a bit concerned as she can see no legs!

wibblydibs what a worrying time you've had, so glad scan was ok. I don't knoe anything about streB I'm afraid although have spotted a few threads on mumsnet. Hope the MS calms down.

SassJ - I love Delphi, haven't heard it before. I have quite a few Greek friends and know a Tula, Ariadne and Despina amongst them

hackneybird · 20/05/2009 16:33

HC I often do a 'cull' on FB. I keep getting friends requests from people I went to school with - and there's a reason we're no longer in touch!

You are all so organised re: names and planning bedrooms for new babies and things, DH and I have planned and done nothing, except for two conversations about names. I think after my mc last year we are still too afraid. Perhaps after the scan next week. And I still feel like we have so much time, although the weeks now seem to go by faster and faster.

wibbly what a time you've been having, I am so pleased everything is going well now. It's worth looking for past GBS threads. There is an active thread happening right now which you may find useful, it's here. However, it is all very confusing.

rubyslippers · 20/05/2009 17:38

HB sorry to hear about your MC

we have done nothing - we are going to buy a new mattress for the cot and moses basket

have bought one pack of babygros (unisex) and that is it

maybe i should do a bit more?!

SassJ · 20/05/2009 19:08

We've done nothing either! Apart from names, but that was kind of an accident because my cousin picked my first choice girl's name.
We're going to Greece for 3 weeks in mid-June, and have decided that we'll start shopping / setting up the nursery and so on when we get back in mid-July - I'll be about 27 weeks by then, so plenty of time!
Lameez - it's our first too! and definitely a blessing.
Feeling lots more gurgly somersaults this week. Love it!
Looking forward to the long weekend so I can spend more time with my lovely husband - really hoping it's sunny!

theboob · 21/05/2009 09:31

any more scans this week?

HappyTangerine · 21/05/2009 10:48

We've done zilch either so far, am under strict orders from my superstitious mum not to buy anything until I've passed at least the 6 month mark.

peachespaige forgot to say yesterday that so glad everything was well and you got to hear the heartbeat. My internet supplier swapped over halfway through the day so I couldn't get back on for ages.

Couple of questions:
Dods anyone else find that this page takes ages to load?

And-am I the only person who is getting pins and needles in the arm? Its the left arm with me, worse at night but I also get it in the day. I've broken both wrists twice back in the days when I used to rock climb-am wondering if digging out my old splint may help.

Have a great day all

smallone · 21/05/2009 10:59

Not bought anything new yet, am waiting til much later on, prob about 30wks before I get my baby stuff back from my mums (very kindly storing it in their loft) Most of dds early stuff was unisex so unless its gone grotty in storage, I'm hoping to get away without buying anything til after the baby is born.

Will prob get the knitting needles out at some point tho! I've started nesting tho, and have decided to do a deep clean of the house spending one week on each room, cleaning, sorting and hopefully getting rid of a lot of stuff to make room for the new baby.

Might redecorate DD's room as it'll prob be the last chance to do it for ages and we need to move her out of her cot into a bed.

I am very minimalistic tho, eg never had a changing mat for dd, just used old towels, and instead of a baby bath we used to bath her in a plastic crate! She did have a moses basket tho (£8 from charity shop) didn't make her sleep in a drawer!

smallone · 21/05/2009 11:01

HT mine used to take ages to load but DH has just wiped our comp of all the rubbish it'd accumulated and now its really fast!

Treats · 21/05/2009 11:18

Hi there. Had the scan on Tuesday afternoon and everything was fine. I really didn't feel 'ready' for it, and DH said he could tell I was nervous going in, because I was holding his hand so tightly. But everything's fine. All the bits are in the right place and developing well. Was a bit disappointed that we didn't get a good view of the whole baby - s/he's a bit too big for a single view now, and it was just a mass of swirling images. But at one point, we could distinctly see the hand moving towards the face - the midwife said it was scratching its nose!

So yes - still s/he. We didn't find out the sex. We'd decided we didn't want to know anyway, but they didn't actually offer to tell us. There was no mention of it at all. I guess it's partly because the patient population at St T's is very ethnically mixed, so they probably have a policy about not telling people the sex - some cultures have preferences for boys, etc.

DH and I went to Mamas and Papas in Oxford Street afterwards to celebrate. I was determined that we were finally going to buy something for the baby. But we ended up having a big row over whether we wanted a static moses basket stand or one that rocks. DH was really keen on the rocking one, but I'm worried that it won't be stable enough. After that, we couldn't even agree to buy a pack of plain white newborn babygros! The whole baby thing is definitely bringing out DH's stubborn side.... I'm worried that we'll argue ourselves into not buying anything until after the baby's here!

My choices for names (so far) are Iris and Alexander with either of my parents' names as a middle name. DH doesn't agree though.....

Treats · 21/05/2009 11:19

Oooh - meant to say that Joseph is my second favourite. If DH doesn't go for Alexander and I don't come round to Felix (his choice) then we might opt for Joseph as a compromise choice.

HumphreysCorner · 21/05/2009 12:21

Afternoon ladies

Treats-sorry your scan was such a worrying time for you but so pleased all is well. Sadly men have no idea when discussing baby things. The crib I bought off my school friend can either rock or stay still.

I have decided that when I get to 30 weeks and can count the weeks to go on my hands I will pack a bag so will need a bag of nappies, vests and sleepsuits and a hat as forgot last time and was frowned at. Was the end of June so thought I wouldn't need one. Will need to dig my big nighties out and a dressing gown. I also like to have a new pair of slippers.

I like Joseph but am still set on having Matthew with John (DH's dads name) as the middle name. Also like Adam. For a girl I like Chloe, Charlotte, Lottie and Lucy but will never need to choose one now.

Better get on as was in the middle of emptying my pots when nursery phoned to say DD2 had fallen and grazed everywhere and had a nosebleed. So had to rush and get her. Doh, it's pouring with rain now. Ironing then I suppose.

Anyone done the sheets of toilet paper measurement round your bump-did this on my last AN thread.

Love to all.

HC

hackneybird · 21/05/2009 14:31

Hi Treats, glad all went ok with your scan. I go past the big M&P every day as I work round the corner. Haven't really worked up the courage to go in yet. A colleague of mine who is due at end of July has bought lots and lots of stuff from there, all matching bedding etc.

I know what you mean about DH, mine is being a bit of a pain. I think the reason we've hardly discussed anything is because when we do, we have a row! Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't really started preparing. I've been doing a lot of reading though, I am clueless about babies.

smallone I like the idea of having a deep clean. We seriously need to declutter, particularly as we have a fairly small flat. I may also do some knitting! I really fancied it the other day, but don't like to get too far ahead of myself, just in case.

HC I like your hospital bag idea. 30 weeks doesn't seem that far away all of a sudden. Eek!

smallone · 21/05/2009 14:38

Treats glad all was well with your scan, when I was buying bits and pieces for DD I made a list which I shared with DH, which I don't think he was very interested in and then just bought things on my own and showed him. Got around having to argue about stuff.

Although DH is currently in a bit of a miff coz he's just asked me who is going to have dd when I'm in labour and I said my friend who lives locally will have her straight off and then my M+D who live about 3 hours away will come down to pick her up from my friends. So now he's in a (little) strop because I haven't considered his mum and dad. Is this unreasonable of me?

My main reason is I would completely relax about my mum having her whereas MIL does tend to hype dd up, stuggles to get her to sleep and keeps trying to feed her chocolate. But I can back this up with the fact that my parents are retired and fairly well off so could afford to stay in a hotel while they were here, and DH's parents work and would have to stay at our house.

I had a ridiculously long first stage last time so it is likely that I'll want to offload dd much earlier than I go into hosp and I don't want my MIL around while I'm labouring!

Treats · 21/05/2009 15:38

Oooh knitting! I've made a cute little cardigan already and am in the middle of a blanket. I like to get a few rows done each day - v. relaxing. Got a busy few weeks ahead of me, but plan to put my feet up and relax for the rest of the pregnancy after that, so am hoping to get loads more done! Never know what size to do though - not a problem with the blanket, obv! - don't want to do newborn size in case it turns out to be a big baby, but would like it to have something that I made to wear home from the hospital.

smallone - I think you should stick to your guns about having your mum look after DD. I can understand why your DH is upset, but the prospect of having MIL present while I'm labouring would clinch it for me. I wouldn't tell your DH that it's because you don't think your MIL cares for your DD as well as yours does.

hackneybird · 21/05/2009 17:03

OMG the idea of ANYONE except my DH being around me whilst labouring sounds horrific. Yes you stick to your guns Smallone.

wibblydibs · 21/05/2009 17:16

Thanks HT, and thanks Hackneybird for that thread link. It's all incredibly confusing, will just sit tight and see how I feel nearer the time.

Smallone - the thought of having my MIL around while I'm in labour has sent chills down my spine....would rather take the girls to hospital with me.

Can't remember anything else I was going to say as the builders have had a jackhammer going all afternoon as they're demolishing our conservatory. We're currently converting the whole ground floor - not as bad as it sounds as kitchen etc is currently on first floor...but still doing my head in! The only plus side is that the weather's nice so it looks a bit like a diet code advert out there.
