Morning all-welcome brightonbeach!

Sugarkane- I hope you feel better now...

Just a quick question-can a baby be moving too much at this stage? I can feel it moving ALOT.... (you will know what kicks feel like when you get them btw-they feel like you are being poked from the inside, sometimes like a muscle twitching-but isn't, and sometimes like a small animal wriggling around inside!)
DD moved around a lot but not at this stage! She was so active during labour that the mw was shocked and i'm sure it is why she had the cord 2x round her neck! I'm hoping not to have a repeat performance of that

I'm knackered today-dd got a late night so then wakes up at 5 (why does that happen?!) and I had my latest night for ages so I feel like a zombie!

How I manage to be in contact with everything I don't know, though i read that CP is common around April/May. 2 wks would be thurs-keeping my fingers crossed....!

19wks today! !

Looks like it is going to be a nice day! x x x

lixanismapolium · 03/05/2009 08:41

Hi brightonbleach - I too am 37, and there's nothing wrong with that!!!! If baby is late, I may even be 38 by the time of the birth and still believe I will cope with it!

Ask all the questions you have - no matter how daft they might seem. This is my second, but I certainly don't know everything and we definitely all remember our first time around and how daunting this can all seem!

My DH has been out of work since November, so starting to wonder whether we might also be doing the SAHD thing, although it's certainly not the plan at the moment.

Going for our 2nd attempt at the gender scan on Tuesday so hopefully he/she will have uncrossed legs this time. Any tips on things I can eat/drink/do beforehand to get the little one moving around for the scan to give us a chance of seeing?

brightonbleach · 03/05/2009 10:15

morning all! thanks so much for the messages of welcome and support, very nice, makes me feel very relaxed and less daft...! :-) seriously, thank you guys, its less daunting knowing you're not the only one...

hope you all feel very well today :-)

squidgeymiller · 03/05/2009 11:35

Hope everyone's having a nice BH weekend

MrsKitty · 03/05/2009 16:05

Hi all

New to this thread (only just found 'antenatal clubs' on the menu )

Due 05/10 so nearly 18 wks now... Have had more nausea this time around than I had with DS (2 yrs) but it's very random. Am also just embarking on the wonderful period of pregnancy that involves gallons of Gaviscon on a daily basis!

Treats and HappyTangerine I've only felt the old 'bubble' of movement so far, and not even 100% convinced that it's not just wind at this point, so don't worry - don't remember really feeling much till about 20 weeks first time around.

TheBoob think I may have experienced some Braxton Hicks this past week - felt very uncomfortable and odd - didn't get any last time around so was quite alarmed until I read that they can begin from around 16 weeks (or even earlier for some women!)

Well, nice to find lots of others at the same stage as me...Looking forward to keeping up with how everyone's doing .

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend...I'm working today 6am-6pm, but have tomorrow off, so that's something at least!

hackneybird · 03/05/2009 16:45

Hi there ronniemummy. Hope you feel better soon. I really improved after I had reached 14 weeks and now feel completely normal! So much so of course I am worrying about the lack of symptoms.....

welcome to you too brightonbleach, I am also a first timer so we can be nervous together. I have NO experience either and cannot believe I am being allowed to have a baby. I am also 35 so in the 'geriatric' category. I use the search function a lot on past threads - you can guarantee that any question you have -no matter how minor - will have been asked before and lots of answers provided by wonderful and experienced MNers.

treats I'm also looking forward to feeling movement, as I haven't felt anything yet. I was getting lots of strange bubbling and twitching sensations a few weeks ago, but they have stopped. I imagine they were proibably stretching pains or wind or something rather than the baby, but it will be reassuring when I finally starting getting these fabled kicks and flutters!

And hello to mrskitty! How lovely to have so many new people.

Hope the rest of you are having a nice bank holiday weekend. I have been relaxing a LOT.

HumphreysCorner · 03/05/2009 20:08

Evening ladeez

Welcome to the newbies, the more the merrier.

I had horrendous heartburn last time but so far so good.

What do Braxton Hicks feel like as I've never had them.

Big wave to everyone.

LittleMissBliss · 03/05/2009 20:50

Evening all.

HC I would describe them as tightenings on the bump and lower back for me. Practice contractions without the period pains. I didn't find them painful just uncomfortable at times. I haven't had any yet this time.

Welcome mrskitty!

17+6 today.

Lixan I'm going to eat some chocolate (suagr rush for the bub) before going into my scan to get the bub moving. Or you could bring an ice-cold (shock for the bub) drink if you're not one for chocolate.

Sammysam, I don't think you need to worry about baby being so active, at least I hope not. When I went for my 12 week scan I think the sonographer said about three times what an active baby it was and we could see it stretching it's legs again and again. I'm getting a lot of movement but I find it really reassuring. DS was very active too (except at night thankfully when he seemed to go to sleep too.) and he was fine and a really chilled out, not overly active baby once born.

rubyslippers · 04/05/2009 08:00

good morning all - lovely to see lots of oldies and newbies!

had a busy weekend so far which has been nice

can feel movement, mainly when i am laying down - i had a real kick last night as opposed to the rumblings i have been getting

hope everyone has a good day

x

theboob · 04/05/2009 09:51

morning all , welcome to the newbies

i also have a very active baby and DH can feel it now

raining here in blackpool and not safe to go into town at all , its the young farmers convention and they are the worst most ill manered , dirty people i have ever come across in my life
i understand they are here to have a good time and i'm used to the town centre turning into a circus at night, but children dont see it , even the stag and hen's are well behaved in the day around families and save the madness till night (rant over)

other than that have had a lovely weekend and even managed a night out with the girls until 2.30am
19 weeks today and scan soon i really cant wait, but my money is on a girl.......lets see if i'm right x x

hope everyone has a fab bank hol monday x x

MeHimCatBlob · 04/05/2009 11:07

Morning all. Brightonbleach I'm a first timer to and will be almost 40 when little one arrives so you certainly arent the oldest new mum-to-be on here! I figure it will sort itself out (although if I actually think about it, frankly I find the while thing terrifying - still, judging by the number of 2+ times mums-to-be on here, it can;t be that bad....!!)

enjoy the rest of your weekends

Sugarkane · 04/05/2009 11:29

Hi all thanks for the well wishes, im starting to feel better just have a bruised feeling in my legs left but im at the midwife tomorrow so will mention it to them. Also as I am run down I seem to be full of thrush (always get it when preg) which I can handle but DD now has oral thrush and I seem to have got it in my boobs as well but I have found a heated towel helps. Oh well at least the MS has stopped now . Hope all is well and good luck to everyone due a 20 week scan.

littlepea72 · 04/05/2009 12:59

Sugarkane i hope you are ok, you seem to be having a bad time.

MHCB this will be my 2nd, i worried myself crazy about the birth, and it was one of the best times of my life, even though it wasnt plain sailing! I was so drugged up! Everyone is different, so never go by what other people tell you, plus people love to tell you all the bad stuff....dont listen!! Like you have said, alot of us are going for it again, so its not that bad lol....

My SIL is due next month, and my In-Laws are loving to tell me about how she is all bump, not a fat pregnant woman that i seem to be! That was their words! Im a bit upset about it, and i am starting to look at my weight. Ive put on 5 pounds in 4 days! Im going away to Euro Disney in 2 weeks time with them, so i have the feeling that Disney wont be the only fireworks going off!!! LOL....

How everyone is keeping well....we are nearing the time of the scans starting again...how exciting!!!

Oh...welcome & hello to any new people!!

lixanismapolium · 04/05/2009 16:53

littlepea72 - my Mum has taken to reminding me how skinny my sister was each time she was preganant and is worried about my "tendancy to put on too much weight" (her words, not mine!!!!!)

Just ignore them. That's my plan, anyway!

HumphreysCorner · 04/05/2009 20:39

Evening all

I am 40 in October so certainly no spring chicken.

littlepea-must be difficult having someone else in the family PG. Thing is, everyone is different when PG so impossible to compare. IGNORE!

Sugarkane-things are rough for you aren't they? Hope you bloom soon.

As DH deserted us to go to the bike racing I took the girls to mum and dad's for the day. Went on the beach in the afternoon and managed to avoid the rain. Built some sandcastles.

Big wave to everyone!

HC

squidgeymiller · 04/05/2009 20:55

Hi all, sorry your families are so crap littlepea and lixan, as if we don't worry enough about how much weight we're gaining - is it enough, is it too much, do we look preg or just fat... blah blah blah.
Feel free to rant on here - we're on your side!! [

squidgeymiller · 04/05/2009 21:06

ps good for you HC - DH wanted to go out and desert us on his bike tody too but luckily it's been really wet with greasy roads all day so he's not been able to go [evil chuckle]!!

HumphreysCorner · 04/05/2009 21:24

He has just come in bleating about how brilliant his day was-I am not interested!!!!!!!!!!

fidelma · 04/05/2009 21:59

sugarcanenatural yogurt is good for thrush eat it and use as cream nice

No BH for our children but DH was off.We have had a stressfull few weeks with work oppertunities but a decision has now been made.I feel very relaxed now as a result.

I am not feeling much movement which is stressing me out abit

I have been very affected by the Madeline mccann stories in the press again. And just realised that Emma Loach (who has made the documentries and written many of the articles this weekend)was at ballet school with me,so I read everything.I also found an article that she had written about her 2nd pregnancy. The baby had downs and heart problems. It broke my heart. She now seems to have 3 healthy boys.I am still awaiting the results of the Downs blood tests,as our hospital does not do the test when you have the 12 week scan.More stress

My 20 week scan is 2 weeks tomorrow.Although I now feel like getting a private scan ASAP what do you think?

sammysam · 05/05/2009 07:39

Hello!
Left it too long again to catch up

fidelma-i hope you get your results soon and try not to worry about the movement-I hope you manage to feel less stressed soon x

I'm very pleased i'm not pg at the same time as anyone very close to me (my sis's sil-but i never see her and a friend I don't see very often-who is due is 2 months and is the same size as me ) it just puts extra stress on you.

We all have colds at the mo so all feeling rough. Weekend was lovely but has gone far too quickly

6 days til my 20wk scan

My abdominal muscles are starting to part again -they must have never gone back properly! DD was so big and it was one massive bump right out the front plus at the time my tummy was very tight that I think it just couldn't take it!!! This time I have far less reason! Will have to do some major exercise come october!!!

DevilsAdvocaat · 05/05/2009 08:24

hi everyone,
welcome newbies!

after ds being ill on thursday, dh and i got it on saturday. very bad vommiting, i ate nothing on saturday and passed out in the kitchen. thank god my mum took ds for the day so we could vom in peace. dh also had diarrhoea but thatnk god i didn't. still don't feel 100% today. feels like i have ms again.

haven't done a very good job on catching up on news.

lix take a cold drink in with you!
fidelma two weeks isn't that long but if you can afford it anyway then look into it.
sammysam what does your muscles parting feel like/look like?

sammysam · 05/05/2009 08:36

devils! I hope you feel much better soon-gasto bugs are so awful.

If you were to do a sit up (don't!!!!) or get up from lying down etc your tummy kind of goes to a triangle shape-there is a line down the middle of muscle sticking up iyswim?
It isn't a real problem-though it can cause back problems later on as these muscles aren't supporting you. I was supposed to have physio after dd was born but I moved and then forgot to ask as I was busy with a new born and they seemed to go back to normal. I'm quite surprised it has happened again as I have done loads of Pilates and was also told that when they fuse together again they are stronger !! May google as haven't ever looked into it.......
It is quite common aparently...

brightonbleach · 05/05/2009 09:49

hi all thanks for all welcome messages.

squidgymiller cheers - I'll know where to come when questions pop into my head then! marvellous.
hackneybird - thanks, I feel exactly the same
sammysam although am not feeling movement yet (apart from little bubbling?) the sonographer said he/she was somersaulting! probably normal, she didn't seem concerned - kept laughing... little acrobat made the nuchal scan 3x as long though as it took sonographer ages to get all the right pictures...
mehimcatblob thanks! I know, I'm terrified in one way (the unknown!) but do comfort myself with the fact other people go on to do it again...

diabetes glucose test tomorrow + more thyroid bloods, sigh.

Heres a question: my DH has not been asked his family history or anything like that yet, is this normal? theres nothing bad that runs in his family, I don't mean that, but just wondering why his history doesn't seem as important to the docs, after all the baby will have half his blood & genes...

14+2

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter · 05/05/2009 10:42

Morning everyone !

I had another scan on Friday - and the consultant has now put on my notes that she does not think the baby has been affected by the slapped cheek ! She doesn't want to see me again - but will check the results of my 21 week scan when available - so we're feeling very happy !

They tried to tell the sex but, baby had its hand right between its legs - on that basis we and the sonographer decided that it's probably a boy ! It's a very squirmy baby and I'm just beginning to feel the squirms - can't wait for the kicks !

We've also decided to go for a 4d scan - probably in 6 weeks time.
