Ladies, it seems that we do not know when to stop!
Here is another thread. Let?s hope it?s just not the tread that moves that fast - let the weeks fly!
I jsut have to work out how to link the old one now!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ninjacat · 27/04/2009 12:18

AmyBoo I'm so sorry to hear your news. I wish there was more I could say but please be kind to yourself x

I have just had my results back from epac. Apparently I have Strep B so may have to have IV antibiotics during labour. Ugh, trying not to think that far ahead.

I'm curled up under my duvet on the sofa at the moment with sore throat and temperature. Feel rubbish! Arghhhhhh

Sorry for the self pity.

Good luck on today's scans. Scarlotti thinking of you

beepbeep · 27/04/2009 12:33

Ninjacat - I also have Strep B, I was tested few days before my last labour but didn't get results till after, so didn't affect that one! Have been told i have to have hospital birth this time and antibiotics, only prob is in past i have laboured very fast, 4hr 20 and 3 hr 40, so won't be able to get the 2 lots in that they recommend (apparently meant to have 4 hrs between), so baby may have to have them, not sure of ins and outs and whether this means i have to stay in hospital or not for obs for baby, planning on visiting hospital soon to discuss with them. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Ninjacat · 27/04/2009 12:46

Thanks BeepBeep - I see my mw next week so hope to find out more then. EPAC mw said I was lucky to find out because they don't do routine checks and at least they can keep an eye on it now.
At least we are not alone.

ursigurke · 27/04/2009 12:58

I have been away for the weekend and once again, it is almost impossible to catch up.
amyboo - I am so sorry to hear your news. I hope you will get all the support that you need.
Congratulations to all those with good news from their scans!
And I hope all those with problems with their partners will soon get them solved. It is true that it is us feeling rubbish but I suppose it is difficult for them too, if we are always complaining or feeling bad. And especially for your husband, pavlov, it must be hard as he definitely has his own big problems.
I already get slightly annoyed when mine is sick for a day so I even don't want to imagine how it would be for me if he was pregnant and constantly complaining about something.
I guess, mine handles the situation much better than I would do ;-)
I think it is important to find a moment and an activity that we can enjoy both as a couple. And anyway, we shouldn't forget, we will feel better after the first 12 weeks (or some more for those with twins). I definitely do feel better already.

ldeeanna · 27/04/2009 13:27

Amyboo I'm so sorry, it is really horrible but it does get better in time-I didn't even admit that it bothered me that much at first and pretended everything was fine for a few weeks and by then I felt it was too late to talk to anyone-and I think I went slightly mad!! But I started talking to friends etc (nearly a year later) and felt so much better-go to 'miscarriage association', I sent a rambling letter to them to pour out and they were really good. Don't take any notice of the awkward people who say stupid things-you will hear some really insensitive things! But just remember they don't mean any harm! Wishing you all the best xx

ldeeanna · 27/04/2009 13:36

Thanks Beckybendylegs still 3-6 weeks is much better than I thought! Hope my baby is really hungry too!! Think I will be a big round ribena berry as I am quite short-and I will get stretchmarks as I've got them everywhere else but I don't mind them-tells a story of a beautiful time as my friend says!!!
BeepBeep What is Strep B please?!!

eeyore2 · 27/04/2009 14:04

Amyboo I am so sorry to hear your sad news, it must be really tough for you.
I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and am really nervous, just can't wait for it to be over and done with. Good luck to the others today and tomorrow.

lemontop · 27/04/2009 14:37

amyboo I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. Take care. x

lemontop · 27/04/2009 14:42

Back from my scan and everything's looking good. Dates are bang on and nuchal measurement was very small. I was very nervous beforehand and felt a bit teary after seeing the baby. It was nice to have an abdominal scan for the first time and was in and out in no time.

I had my usual problem giving blood. Damn my hidden tiny veins.

Tabbykat · 27/04/2009 14:44

Amyboo sorry to hear your news - take good care.
Eeyore2 I have my scan tomorrow morning, too. Had one a few weeks ago to check viability but it feels a lifetime ago and so nervous about tomorrow. Not helped by DH's work refusing to allow him time off so he won't be there. Still feeling sick and tired though so I guess that's a good sign.....

Good luck to scarlotti and anyone else having scans today - not long to go till we can go public!

weston · 27/04/2009 14:50

i am soooo sick of feeling sick...having been physicallly but just constant feeling of nauseus...eating used help now makes it worse...really not enjoying this pregnancy...loved it last time...when will blooming phase ever start...and think indegistion if kicking in even before nauseau stage is over...ok moan moan over from me..

off for nuchal on weds...still haven't had date for my nhs scan...good luck to everyone and really sorry to hear your said news amyboo...i had an early 8 week reassurance scan which thinks gives u false sense of security...

beepbeep · 27/04/2009 14:54

ideeanna - it's a naturally occurring bacteria that I think about a third of people carry, mostly in intestines, but also in vagina. On rare occassions it can case really serious illness / death in newborns, this is really rare though (hence them not doing routine checks for bacteria on pregnant women) but if they know you have it they have to treat it -just in case. It's most likely to cause problems in long labours or when waters go quite a while before the actually birth (think this is due to being ideal situation for an infection). Sounds nice eh?!?! Don't think it's usually anything to worry about (apparently I had it last time but caused no issues) but if they have the knowledge, they have to be on safe side, i.e. antibiotics in labour. Think all women can be tested on their request, but not done routinely. Think what i've written is right, only know what i've read myself, but there is a website.

turtle23 · 27/04/2009 15:12

(whispers...you can get rid of Strep B naturally, you know!)

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/04/2009 15:45

Amyboo - so sorry to hear your news , look after yourself.

I am furious with midwife. Yes, I know, I said she was nice. But perhaps not well organised! I just called to arrange my nuchal scan as the office was closed when I saw her for my booking in last week (she was running late) and they do not have my paperwork so cannot book me in. The woman said she would look out for it, but there was some urgency in booking it as I am already 10.4 weeks and there is no appts available until 20th May as it is. If it is not done ASAP she might not be able to fit me in . Grrr. I would not mind, but when I was going to be 10 mins late for my booking in appt weeks and weeks ago, I had to re-arrange as she had other patients to see. Yet she was 20 mins late seeing me and thats ok, even if it means missing being booked in for scan [grr again]

beepbeep · 27/04/2009 15:45

turtle - I have read about that, but been told by MW that in our area is policy that once have tested positive you are always treated so - bit bizarre?!

scarlotti · 27/04/2009 16:07

Back from my scan and pleased to say all is looking well. baby was bobbing about and even managed a few waves!
Hopefully now I will start to relax a little. Tiredness seems to have hit now, suspect I've been more on edge than I realised.

lemontop glad your scan went well.

Fruitpastels think you were due a scan today too - any news? Thinking of you

turtle23 · 27/04/2009 16:11

beep-Silly, I guess, but they're just covering their backs. I mentioned it, really, as it seems a good idea to treat yourself ahead of time just in case. That way if you have one of those 5 minutes labours and baby is born at home you can know that it isn't quite so urgent to get those ABs in. I didn't have it last time (but you can get it at any time) but am thinking about treating myself near the end anyway as am having a homebirth.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/04/2009 16:23

turtle at having a home birth. I really wanted one, but alas am not able.

Congratulations on those who have good news at their scans today.

Is anyone else experiencing raised temperature? I have not checked it so don't know for sure what it is, but my temp is raised much of the time at the moment, esp at night. DH checked my forehead yesterday and said I was burning up and I feel like I have a higher temp (not a fever, just higher than normal), hot stuffy face that kind of thing.

Ninjacat · 27/04/2009 16:28

Turtle please elaborate. I've been told I will be tested again at 28wks. Would prefer not to have ABs if poss.

Fruitpastels · 27/04/2009 16:40

Had my scan this morning. All appears well and baby was dancing around and rubbing its nose . EDD date is correct as well. Feel very relieved. It's been a long day and needed to come straight home and have a nap. Glad to hear your scans went well lemontop and scarlotti Hope you can feel more relaxed and enjoy spreading the news. Good luck to those with scans this week.

Fruitpastels · 27/04/2009 16:42

Amyboo so sorry to hear your news - take care

katster37 · 27/04/2009 16:52

Oh my, what a day on our thread. Amyboo I am so shocked to hear your news. I can't imagine how you are feeling, other than I suppose it is all of our worst nightmares at the minute. Take good care of yourself.

To all the ladies who had positive scans today - you must so relieved! I must admit I am jealous!! Mine is in 11 days (not that I'm counting) and desperate for good news.

Spoke to my midwife today, and she s absolutely lovely. Was on the phone for 20 minutes, and just chatting to her about how scared and anxious I am feeling and she was lovely. Offered to come round and see if she could hear the HB but then said it might cause more worry as often too early at this stage. But really sweet anyway, and my booking in appt now next Tues instead of Fri.

Hope everyone's feeling OK. I was sick at 8.57am this morning, just as my class were coming in

turtle23 · 27/04/2009 17:38

Look away those with queasy tums!!
Ninja- Here you go:
"A fresh garlic clove inserted into the vagina for one or two nights will also, most likely, reduce the colonization of the vagina with GBS, with no known side effects, besides garlic breath. But none of the funding agencies or drug companies are interested in providing support for research?likely because the product could not be patented. Chlorhexidine vaginal gel or wash reduces GBS colonization, so the idea of using local measures is not too radical. But at this time, a clinical trial in the U.S. to demonstrate efficacy of these topical methods will be almost impossible, given the established standard of care (intrapartum antibiotics) established by the CDC. So garlic experiments to reduce neonatal GBS will have to take place outside of the U.S.
Garlic protocol:

  • Break a clove off of a bulb of garlic and peel off the paper-like cover. Cut in half. Sew a string thru it for easy retrieval.
  • Put a fresh half in your vagina in the evening before you go to sleep. Most women taste garlic in their mouths as soon as it is in their vagina, so it is less pleasant to treat while awake.
  • In the morning, the garlic may come out when you poop. If not, many women find it is easiest to take it out on the toilet. Circle the vagina with a finger, till you find it. It cannot enter the uterus through the cervix. It cannot get lost, but it can get pushed into the pocket between the cervix and the vaginal wall.
  • Most people will taste the garlic as long as it is in there. So if you still taste it, it is probably still in there. Most women have trouble getting it out the first time.
  • For easy retrieval, sew a string through the middle of the clove before you put it in. You don't want to get irritated. Be gentle. Don't scratch yourself with long nails."
turtle23 · 27/04/2009 17:41

pavlov- You should have a slightl raised temp but not to the point where you feel it like that I don't think. Are you sure you don't have cystitis?

katster37 · 27/04/2009 17:45

Eeeek, turtle that sounds quite scary!! Esp having to leave it in all night! I am surprised they don't routinely test for Strep B if the consequences can be that horrendous for the baby - I might ask to be tested.
