I jsut have to work out how to link the old one now!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:52

ninja that really sucks.

I had a 9wk scan and I am having 12 week one too. But, I am also having nuchal, and I am consultant led, which my midwife said means lots more scans. Perhaps that is why I am getting it as well? She did not say that was why, but I guess it must be.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:54

ninja - I think we both reached a point where we could take no more, I sort of think it needed to happen almost, looking back, get it all out and say what was on both our minds and clear the air. Our friends though, don't think they knew we had argued, but taking DD for a sleepover was the best thing they could have done. DD had a blast and we had space to just be together.

Ninjacat · 26/04/2009 21:55

A good friend of mine just had her baby and was consultant led after loosing a baby last year at 20wks. She had a scan every 2weeks throughout this pg which she found very reassuring.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 22:00

aw your poor friend. scans every 2 weeks is great reassurance.

DD slowed down in her growth at around 30 weeks, and by 36 weeks had stopped almost completely. I had about 4 scans then, and when she was born at 5lbs I had a retained placenta. So midwife said no chances this time. Although there was nothing wrong with DD at all, she was healthy and strong, just small, in fact tiny and a little jaundiced. Good thing meant I got to stay in hosp for a week and had on tap help with breastfeeding, so by the time I came home I was an expert at it!

ldeeanna · 26/04/2009 22:00

Never!!! I cant beleive it!! Sorry Ninja it was me who had the scan at 9+4-thank you as I am more reassured now. Well sort of good news for us as they obviously think if there is a healthy baby there at that stage then we will be alright?!! What did your sonographer/midwife say?
So does that mean that my scan on 5/5/09 will be cancelled? I daren't ring up and question just in case they say-oh we didn't realise and so dont come in!!! But saying that I think-I asked for one- im supposed to be having a nuchal scan-so they will have to see me!! Ha Ha! I've got em cornered!!

Would like to recommend a book I found quite interesting-Miriam Stoppards 'Bonding with your Bump'. Sounds cheesey but its not-good for anyone with first babies!

Ninjacat · 26/04/2009 22:04

Pavlov - Sometimes it works that way, doesn't it? I'm glad you've got such nice friends (even if they didn't realise)

Ninjacat · 26/04/2009 22:05

Pavlov - sorry keep crossing posts, that was a response to last one

Ninjacat · 26/04/2009 22:14

Ideeanna - I'm sorry I got you confused (pg brain in action). I'm in Bristol so I'm sure its just a local thing but mw said if you've had an early scan they won't do 12 wks as it is dating only.
Nuchal here is private only but it's different to the 12wk scan so of course they'll see you. Sorry to worry you x

Ninjacat · 26/04/2009 22:16

Pavlov - belt and braces has always got to be the best way to go I think.

Off to bed, night all.

katster37 · 27/04/2009 07:06

Good luck to all those with scans today. Will be thinking of you all! x

helips · 27/04/2009 07:59

Morning everyone, hope you've all had a good weekend.

I am 12 weeks today, yipeeeeee not got my scan till Friday though so hope this week flies by.

Been feeling quite poorly this weekend, really sick on Saturday and yesterday had an upset tummy. Had friends round all day for a BBQ and had to keep running to the loo, was horrible and embarressing and they didn't leave till really late so I am shattered this morning. Got a headache too, think I must be dehydrated from yesterday.

Anyway, enough moaning from me! Good luck to everyone having scans today, I will check in later to see how you all got on...

beepbeep · 27/04/2009 08:00

Good luck with all scans!

We had ours last week, should have been 12 week but actualy showed as 9+4, so have booked back in for 12 week - the reason round here (and most places i think) at 12 weeks as well as any previous scan (which they try and get round 12 weeks but often isn't) is that a nuchal scan can only be carried out between 11 (+ something) and 13 weeks, so they like to do it at 12. If your area doesn't do nuchals on nhs (ours has only just started in last few months (paid £180 for DS)) then they won't need to rescan you until 20 weeks. That's what it would have been like for our previous 2, apart from we paid for private nuchal - does that make sense?!?!?

Reminds me, i have to call hospital today to check they have rescheduled my 12 wk.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/04/2009 08:23

Good luck to everyone scanning today!

Ideeanna with DS1 my bump disappeared 2-3 weeks after the birth! I was very lucky (plus he drank me dry in the first 2 weeks after birth as he was a very hungry baby) but my tummy was not the same as it was before: more flabby. After DS2 it took longer, about 6-8 weeks and my tummy was even more flabby after that. I'm sure with each child it takes longer, that is unless you are famous and have personal trainers at your side.

Better go take DSs to school / nursery.

Tamlin · 27/04/2009 09:24

I'm not getting my booking-in until tomorrow. I was looking at the booklet, and they have a section for discussing any problems with previous births - there's not nearly enough space to describe the debacle which was ds's birth... I really like the midwife here, but she does tend to wriggle around unpleasant questions, so it's going to be fun trying to pin her down on which of the two local hospitals suffer the least from chronic understaffing issues.

My foetus measured with a hb of 162, but I'm not putting much stock in the old wives' tale about hbs and gender - ds had 165, for example. I gather it's true during labour (that one sex has a higher hb than the other) but at this stage, there's no real difference.

scarlotti · 27/04/2009 09:34

Morning all

Good luck to the rest of the scanners today. Mine is at 1 so at work until 12 (although not doing much!)
Am numb at the thought of the scan, shame as whilst I understand it's probably a mental defence mechanism, I was so excited at this point with my other dc's. Hadn't experienced a m/c then though so guess it changes things.

So if my baby measured a hb of 170 at 8+4, what does that lean towards in the old wives tale? Appreciate it's probably rubbish though!! The consultant told me that the hb slows down during gestation and then continues to slow down after birth until adulthood. Something to do with a chemical produced by the nervous system - can't remember what it was now though!

Tamlin · 27/04/2009 09:42

Scarlotti, it does make sense that you try to shut down all sense of anticipation after m/c. I'm only just starting to let myself get properly excited about this baby now - I woke up this morning grinning before I went off to retch! I really hope that by this afternoon, you're also walking around in a happy fog - fingers and toes are crossed.

amyboo · 27/04/2009 10:17

Have been lurking since about week 6....Just had my 2nd scan today. First one at around 10 weeks showed baby all happy, right size and moving around lots. Just had another one this morning, and I apparently lost the baby around 1 week ago (at about 12.5 weeks). Not heartbeat this morning. Am very very sad. Can't believe I went through all the crap stuff for nothing.

beepbeep · 27/04/2009 10:30

Think the hb thing has to throughout the pregnancy - not sure this early on would be an indication of sex. Mine were both from when the midwife could measure it herself - sure it probably doesn't work for all, but did for me and quite a few peoplei know. my sil swears by the wedding ring on string and the way it turns - not sure of the ins and outs of that one, at the end of the day, think the only way you can be certain is when it comes out!

AMYBOO - sorry just read your thread, am so so sorry, can't imagine how you must feel. was this your first pregnancy? big hugs to you x x

skorpion · 27/04/2009 11:07

beepbeep - Thank you. I have my first appointment with MW on the 8th and hope to organise a visit to the ward at some point.

Congrats!

HomeintheSun · 27/04/2009 11:07

I've been for my scan this morning, I have one very healthy active baby and I am right on target at 13 weeks. Good luck to the others having a scan today.

scarlotti · 27/04/2009 11:26

amyboo am so sorry to hear your news. There are some really helpful threads on mn for those of us who've suffered a m/c and I found them very supportive and helpful.
Take plenty of time to grieve and remember there's no right way to get over this, just take it slowly and be very kind on yourself.

homeinthesun congrats on your scan, great news.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/04/2009 11:31

amyboo so sorry to hear your news Nature is so cruel sometimes. The same thing has happened to me so I know how awful you must be feeling right now. I found the MC threads provided wonderful support for me.

homeinthesun that's great news.

HomeintheSun · 27/04/2009 11:39

Oh my god amyboo just saw your post I'm so sorry to hear your news, look after yourself and take all the time you need. sending you hugs.

sleeplessinthecity · 27/04/2009 11:52

Amyboo sorry to hear your news. I hope you take your time grieving and get all the support you need. All of us are thinking of you.

sleeplessinthecity · 27/04/2009 11:59

All of you ladies out there, will this yucky awful feeling ever end...Just made DD a casserole and have been throwing up ever since. The house, the fridge, the bins, the nappies..they all just make me sick..The only place I don't feel sick is my neighbours house..I go there at every opportunity just to feel better...she must think I'm mad!

Hope you all have great scans this week.
