Won't relate my birth story here as it will scare the first timers. Let's just say I will be seeing the Traumatic birth councellor at the hospital before I go back again.

Had pre-eclampsia, was induced, sedated and ended up with a section after only getting to 3cms in 28 hours. I even got the one room with a pool but couldn't go in as DS's heart rate was slow and I had to be monitored constantly.

I like to think that if I'd been at home I would not have been sedated or monitored and would have been able to spend a lot longer upright which might have helped move things along but can never be sure. DH would also have helped me with the TENS machine (nurse refused) which might have helped with the pain.

It's impossible to know though isn't it. I'm actually finding it really hard to imagine it all going right. Perhaps that's why the CS seems so tempting...it would avoid all the worry, pain and most importantly - the disappointment.

anniebigpants · 09/06/2009 16:11

I too had an emergency CS last time and ive spoken to the consultant im under as ive decided to go for VBAC this time. Like you Sarah i was disappointed that i didnt do it'properly', id got to 8cm dilated and DS turned and was face down instead of head down and i stopped dilating.

Moosy · 09/06/2009 16:13

I was induced and had a horrednous time with DD1 (she was back to back) and just narrowly escaped having a CS. DD2 popped out in 4 hours and was easy peasy! I know it's different if you actually did have a CS but what happened with number 1 is certainly no guarantee for what's going to happen with number 2 IYSWIM?

Do you know if there was a reason for your difficulties, eg position of baby?

OP posts:
SarahL2 · 09/06/2009 17:07

I'm not sure of much with DS's birth cause they told me nothing. Hey, I didn't even know I had Strep B till someone came at me with a huge needle!

I just know the maternity ward nurses were the most ignorant, uncaring, unsympathetic people I have ever met and I would rather anything than end up in thier "care" again.

Moosy · 09/06/2009 17:11

That's why I chose to have DD2 at home!

OP posts:
SarahL2 · 09/06/2009 17:27

Don't have that option after a section Moosy

Plus, DH would not like it. We thought hospital would be the safest place.

Moosy · 09/06/2009 18:56

I suppose it depends on where you are and what your MWs are like but round here you can have a HB after a CS. Do you have a midwife led unit that might be less hospital-like where you might be more relaxed?

Congrats on good scan and good nuchal results lollie. hope you can start to enjoy your pregnancy now. Im starting to finally believe im going to have a little baby at the end of this, as my last pregnancy ended at 12 weeks (Jan this year). Im 15 weeks now and so far so good

SarahL2 · 09/06/2009 20:13

Will look into Midwife led units thanks Moosy. DH really wouldn't be happy with a home birth, especially after all the monitoring and eventual outcome of last time but he might go for a Midwife unit.

The midwives were fantastic last time, it was just the ward staff which were severly lacking.

Congrats on the scan lollie. I've got mine on Friday and am getting very nervous.

SarahL2 · 09/06/2009 21:35

Looked into Midwife led units in Milton Keynes and all I found was a petition to create one. Looks like it's back to hospital for me

Moosy · 09/06/2009 22:08

Have alook here and put your postcode in, there might be somewhere not too far away?

OP posts:
SarahL2 · 10/06/2009 08:42

Thatnks moosy. Closest one is 39 miles away - abut 45 mins with a clear road. As I'm due on Christmas Day I think that might just be too far

cazzybabs · 10/06/2009 08:54

here they do a three hour discharge...so from giving birth you can go straight home

Beffnal · 10/06/2009 09:26

Moosy thanks for the link. That's a really helpful website and has made my nearest hospital look pretty good which has made me feel more positive about that.

Scorps · 10/06/2009 11:12

Hi all, havent been on MN for nearly a month now, needed a little break!

Well i'm 12+1 now (thank god) (mc in Feb) and i hear the heartbeat daily on my doppler, its so reassuring. I'm in maternity clothes all the time now, treated myself to some Seraphine jeans and some isabella oliver stuff, feels lovely to wear.

My mw rang me yesterday; the scanning unit rang her and said i didnt attend my scan - i never erceived an appointment, i am getting a new one, so i still havent had another scan yet. Hoping to next week.

I'm off to Grayshott's spa this weekend, whoop!!! A big drive from Cornwall....

People have started to notice my bump, but this is my 4th so i have no tummy muscles

Re births: I'm going for a home birth again, for sure. First baby i had in hospital, 12 hours. Second one i was in the delivery suite for 9 minutes my waters broke in the lift lol. Then Mimi (dc3) was born at home, in 2.5 hours from very start, so who knows this time!! I am fortunate enough to have it fairly easy, so am hoping it goes the same this time.

I have no sickness anymore, just get tired easily but thats to be expected i htink!

I hope you are all well off to read.

Devongirl · 10/06/2009 12:41

We have a midwife led unit here which is where I started off with DS, but they won't let women go there after they've had complications before so it's the hospital for me whatever happens.

I am so jealous of your 3 easy births Scorps - 9 minutes!!! - its great to hear that it can be done (sorry for our scare stories to all first timers, they're not all like that!)

x

Milliemuffin · 10/06/2009 14:13

I had my DS in hospital but only after spending about 4 hrs in and out of the pool at home but was so tired, had drank litres of lucozade and reeeeeeaaaaaaaally needed to wee but couldnt so ambulance took me in and he was born with the help of episiotomy and forceps about half an hour after arrival at hospital. Think we're going to try for home birth again, especially as we bought the pool/tens/cd's etc etc so will just see how it goes. Not quite sure how we're gonna handle christmas being due on 26th but will cross that bridge nearer the time! Think i'll start buying presents sooner rather than later!

Milliemuffin · 10/06/2009 14:26

Quick question - how long would you put up with diarrohea before going to the doc? Have had it since sunday morning and it shows no sign of improving :-(

Devongirl · 10/06/2009 15:37

Aw Millie, poor you, I don't know which is worse - I'm the complete opposite

I think I'd ring the midwife or GP if I was you, just to check it's normal - although it is a symptom they might be able to recommend ways to slow it down??? Make sure you drink loads of water though to avoid dehydration.

1petshortofazoo · 10/06/2009 19:42

Had my booking in appt this morning midwife was ok, it was in a child + parent center where they have a gym you can use when ever you like for £12 a year!! I know what my new yrs resolution is already lol.

MW casually asked me how my scan went yesterday, I told her I havent had one yet, not even had an appt through yet. she rang scan dept and they confirmed appt was for yesterday, letter must have got lost in the post?!? Any way re booked for tomorrow morning!!

I've gone from low risk to high risk and been refered to consultant as DS got his shoulders stuck during delivery.... She also said will have to have 'it' in hospital due to the risks.

I've also had diarrohea for several days, mentioned it to midwife, she said aslong as i dont feel really poorly and are drinking lots of fluids it should clear up, just make sure wash hands regular etc.

Fingers crossed for scan tomorrow aghhh. xx

Catz · 10/06/2009 22:12

Hi all, this thread is moving very quickly now so just catching up on everyone's posts.

Just a quick question. Has anyone had vision problems in pregnancy? Twice today my vision has gone extremely odd (flashing lights, white patches etc) for about 30 mins and then gone back to normal. It's too early for pre-eclampsia which is the thing that comes up if you google it! I don't usually have vision problems or migraines etc but I guess pregnancy does all sorts of odd things to you. Have booked for a quick appointment with mw to get it checked but am alternating between worrying and thinking I'm just wasting her time with something common....

Good luck to all those with scans coming up and hope the post works well this time!

1petshortofazoo · 11/06/2009 11:11

Just got back from scan... everything is fine EDD has moved back a day to boxing day!! so will update the list.

scanner was being trained in the nuchal fold so got done as well and all is ok.

Catz, I had that a few weeks ago - I couldn't see properly and it was like vertigo, making me feel very weird, but fingers crossed it hasn't happened again. It was horrible and scary though. I thought maybe I wasn't drinking enough water (that's my cure for everything) so that might have something to do with it, I don't know.

If you're worried, talk to your GP x

SarahL2 · 11/06/2009 15:47

Got my scan tomorrow and am very nervous.

Wish me luck !
