Blakey - I eat everything so I am not the best person to ask

but

aviod alcohol and caffeine, food that has bacteria involved in manufacture - most soft cheese, blue cheese, food that has uncooked meat and fish (e.g. pate and sushi) and food containning uncooked or partly cooked eggs products such as Mr. Whippy. And wash fruit and veg and don't eat too much oilly fish as it has mercury but you are supposed to eat some.

I don't do any of this - I am such a bad mother.

SarahL2 · 17/05/2009 20:07

Thanks Blakey but the wedding was yesterday. Got a fab necklace and squeezed myself into a push up bra - distraction sorted

Feeling really grotty today and have gotten myself all worried. Looking forward to a sleep and being booked in with the midwife tomorrow so I can get some reassurance

Welcome Blakey and good luck with this pregnancy. The govt advice on eating in pregnancy is here though I think crazzybabs has summed it up pretty well.

Hi all, I seem to have got worse in the last week despite complaining about feeling too well a couple of weeks ago! 12 wk scan on Sat so just keeping my head down a bit till then. I have a big posh dinner at work on Wed which I am really not looking forward to. I can't fit into any of my nice dresses, am generally a bit of a zombie after about 7pm at the moment, can't drink any of the nice wine and am feeling suddenly and unaccountably sick at lots of food so 4 courses will kill me. If only it was a few days later I could tell everyone. As it is I'm going to look really boring or really quite obvious. Sigh.

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 10:29

i was surprised to hear we cant eat tuna..... sure i could with dd1..... maybe in 7 years things have changed. AM avoiding pate (which i am crving) ice cream out of machines, shellfish, am cooking eggs thoroughly, no soft cheese like brie etc (which i love!!) Not sure what else. To be honest my MS is so bad that i am eating anything i think m,ight stay down. found yeaterday that weetabix does!

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 10:31

Has anyone else been overcome by hormones and been moody and cried loads.... I did over the weekend!!!

Stigaloid · 18/05/2009 10:45

My hormones have been horrendous. As has morning sickness and utter exhaustion. So much worse than first time round.

Welcome Blakey1

Sparkleycheerymum you can eat tuna but no more than two portions a week due to mercury levels. I am missing my poached eggs though

roll on second trimester - i need more energy and to feel less sick....

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 11:02

i keep seeing the advert for dippy eggs and nearly crying. scrambled eggs are just not the same and am still having to cok poached eggs for dd as she loves them for breakfast! i am having hunger pangs but cant eat. Threw a proper stop with my dp who only partly deserved it really. HOWEVER he did dare to tell me to 'get a grip' grrrrrrrrrrr He then felt bad when he saw how much agony i was in when i was wretching over the kitchen sink.... i have a bad back anyway and sneezing can hurt so all the wretching is killing it. I am doing some research on autism which has scared me a little about the ways to suposedly 'prevent it' apparently using a laptop on your knee is not good amongst loads of other stuff i already do.

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 11:03

HI Blakey1

I am nearly 12 weeks now so holding onto hte hope that i will instantly feel better!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 11:09

runny egg - love it they used to advise that because of risk of salmonelle but chickens are vaccinated against that now. i had a runny egg sarnie just a minute ago!

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 11:20

oh really......... oh i might just indulge as i have just had my delivery of yummt free range eggs formt he local farm.

SarahL2 · 18/05/2009 12:09

It's only the lion marked eggs that are innoculated I think.

SarahL2 · 18/05/2009 12:15

Found this on the lion website...

"Food Standards Agency advice, which precedes the introduction of the Lion Quality Code of Practice, recommends that vulnerable groups such as the elderly, very young, sick and pregnant women should eat eggs that are thoroughly cooked. To minimise any food safety risks, use Lion eggs, keep them in the fridge and use before the best-before date. The Lion Quality mark ensures that the eggs you buy come from hens vaccinated against salmonella."

Not sure I would trust farm eggs if they're not stamped in that case. Even then, they suggest hard boiling

I really miss runny eggs..... and coleslaw and rare steak and parma ham and brie...

I could go on but I'd rather not think about it!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 12:41

you can have shop bought coleslaw. Runny egg is fine, honestly!

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/05/2009 12:49

I've been eating all of these things Just had poached eggs for lunch and regularly eat coleslaw and shellfish...

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 12:50

I am hankering after a good old goats cheese and chilli jam sarnie .

The only things i avoid in pg are smelly cheese, alcohol and cigarettes.

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 12:59

At the moment i am not eating much at all so avoiding certain foods is not an issue!!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 13:00

I'm so mega hungry. Today i have eaten 2 brioche rolls, yog muesli and blueberries, egg sandwiche, tomato soup and brown bread and 2 jaffa cakes

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 13:01

oh i so wish i was you scorpio. could cry (Again) i am soooooooooofed up of feeling sick!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 13:03

it will stop

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 13:07

i hope so.... am just about at my wits end.

SarahL2 · 18/05/2009 13:33

I was sick with DS up until 5 months. If this pregnancy goes the same way, I'll be puking till September

Baisey · 18/05/2009 14:01

I braved the baby show at the NEC on Saturday. It was rammed, the freebies were crap and there were lots of irate mothers bashing your ankles with their prams/buggies. But still managed to have a good time lol.
Craving for pickled onion transforma snacks have gone thank god thought the inside of my mouth was going to rot away!
I came over with an intense NEED for jam roly poly and custard yesterday sent the hubby to go and buy one and honest to god, my hands were shaking as I tried to poen the packaging!!
Its my last week of the 1st trimester, im hoping there is some cut-off point for the sickness to end, like 12oclock Friday night I suddenly feel all serene, my hair goes instantly glossy, my skin starts to look imaculate and I'll start to glide everywhere with a smug all knowing smile on my face. Im not holding breath though...
this is punishment for the perfect 1st pregnancy.
I also had a conversation with my boss about me telling him early about the pregnancy and he said "to be honest baisey, I think the moment you started crying when Queen of the South won 7-1 to Clyde we all knew..." (ps its not normal behaviour for me to get emotional about football)

Ravgirl · 18/05/2009 14:02

Ooops too bad, just realised I was eating egg sarnies on holiday in NZ - no idea if they were ok eggs or not I didn't even think about it! They were runny as well but really yummy....

Have my first midwife appointment on Thursday - what should I be asking? First baby and never been near a midwife before!

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 14:32

Not sure really ravgirl.... my midwife just seemed to tell me everything i needed to know. are we due the same day Baisey..... I am due 4th/5th Dec so i am hoping that friday or saturday the sickness all wears off. I can now only look at food that doesnt smell of anything. I am seeing the midwife tomorrow.... she is coming to my house.... is this normal.... should maybe think about hoovering and emptying my dps wine bottles out of the recycling bin outside the front door!!

Blakey1 · 18/05/2009 14:33

i didnt realise the runny egg thing, and tucked into poached eggs on sauturday. I've got a pregnancy cookbook which advises mozerella melts and poached eggs on toast. Its obviously written by the devil.
I've found that ginger tea helps to stop me feeling sick - and cashew nuts.
