sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 14:35

oooh someone else said cashew nuts but wasnt sure about eating nuts??!!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 15:11

avoid nuts if you or babys father have allergies. Mozarella. Fine As pasturised.

Blakey1 · 18/05/2009 15:46

nuts generally are really good for you, and baby apparently, but as Scorpio says avoid if you have a history of allergies - and maybe always avoid peanuts.

Stigaloid · 18/05/2009 15:56

Hmm have eaten peanut butter and been fine but may avoid from now on as i get hayfever.

I have eaten goat's cheese - didn't know i couldn't. MInd you - thousands of years ago when people lived in caves they ate raw meat and we still somehow managed to continue to reproduce to get to where we are today so am not going to beat myself up about it too much.

I do miss a glass of wine though sigh

Catz · 18/05/2009 15:58

Can I ask another 'rules' question. I love having hot baths and would really love one tonight. I'm a bit paranoid about the possibility of causing birth defects etc. Googling reveals lots of mixed opinion. The thing is I don't see the point in short or luke warm baths, I tend to like to get them really hot and settle in for an hour with a book. Last time I think I waited till I was much further on by which stage the bump stuck out of the water anyway.

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 17:45

oooh i have never heard any concern over ho baths so maybe that means its not a big issue.... midwife never mentioned it. PLease dont tell me i cant have a hot bath Just eaten some cashew nuts, peas in a pod and had a glass of real ginger beer......surely 0.5% alcohol cant do any harm??? and i feel fine. Cant face cooking but actually am not sicky feeling!! Fingers crossed.

Baisey · 18/05/2009 17:48

Yeah Sparkly im due on the 4th (DS birthday lol)

Baisey · 18/05/2009 17:49

I always thought the hot baths thing was blood pressure, or did I just dream that? I had one yesterday and ended up feeling so lightheaded and dizzy. But I do usually enjoy a nice long soak with a good/slightly crap book. Its my peace and quiet time lol

Baisey · 18/05/2009 17:51

Just realised I sound like my mother, no wonder she used to get pissed off at my sisters and me always asking her things through the door when she was trying to have a bath... oops

sparklycheerymummy · 18/05/2009 17:56

ha ha.... i love 2 hour long baths just lying there like a blob. My blood pressure is a bit high though??? but dd likes getting in with me and it gets a bit cramped so not always that relaxing.

Moosy · 18/05/2009 18:27

I thought the hot bath thing was the same as jacuzzi/hot tubs rules. It can overheat the baby (not sure if it's different in different trimesters), and having seen the effect a hot tub had on DD2 (at 2yo) I'd rather not risk it.

OP posts:
ScorpiowithabigS · 18/05/2009 18:27

the bath thing is because it raises your core body temp, therefore your BP & heart rate, dizzyness, etc.

Peanut butter is fine, good for you, actually, if no allergies.

I'm a shower kinda girl. Maybe that comes from never having time to bath!

Catz · 18/05/2009 19:37

Sorry if I've stressed anyone out on the bath thing. Yes, what I've read is that it raises your core temperature so there's a risk to you for blood pressure/dizzyness etc but the rise in your core temperature also raises the baby's temperature and there's some (but only some and not particularly conclusive from what I've seen) evidence that that could be linked to birth defects especially in the first trimester. I really don't want to worry people at all though, the evidence looks very limited, there is much more on hot tubs where the temperature is constant and the water may be much hotter. Most sites that mention this say that you should keep the water in the bath below 100 degrees F. Also if you're sitting up with quite a bit of you outside the water that will do something to cool your core body temp down.

The thing is I like lying down in really hot baths, warm just feels pointless and I tend to top it up to keep it hot so I think I might abstain a bit longer. A warm bath is fine so don't want to stress other people out.

PS Baisey I'm on the 4th too.

4thtimelucky · 19/05/2009 13:01

Long time, no see and all that! Been working abroad and moved house! And finally, after harrasing my new local and seemingly rubbish antenatal clinic, have a booking in appointment (at 12+1) on Friday! And a scan next Tuesday. Here's hoping all is OK.

And that all is good with everyone else too!

sparklycheerymummy · 19/05/2009 13:46

My midwife is due at my house any minute and i am a bit nervous...... didnt have anything at home with dd who is 7..... anyone else having mw come to the house???

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 19/05/2009 13:58

When I had DD last time, the MW came to my house to do my booking in. The only reason was because I was so far along it needed doing and she had no appointments left at the GP's surgery. So I was fitted inbetween her visiting newborns. Don't worry about it. Sometimes they think you'll be more relaxed at home and therefore "bond" a bit with you. After all you will be seeing each other quite a bit soon

Not posted for ages, so update. Although I posted I was due 21st Dec, the MW decided I'm due 23rd. Which is my birthday

Got my date for a scan through, but happens to be when I'm on hols, and having phoned to rearrange, I'm away exactly when they need to scan me to do the nuchal test. So I'm now being scanned when I return when I'm 14 weeks exactly, so they may or may not be able to do the nuchal test. Me and DH aren't too worried but my parents are freaking out. trying to calm them and tell them not all NHS trusts offer it so should count ourselves lucky.

Still working on Dh for a homebirth. Esp by telling him that if he insists on a hospital birth, he won't be able to drink at all over Christmas

ScorpiowithabigS · 19/05/2009 15:56

Down here, MWs always do booking in and birthing plan at home to make it more relaxed for us.

Baisey · 19/05/2009 17:28

Hmm I'll be 14 weeks 3 days when I have my scan, it is so late because my hubby has something "important" going on at work on the original day I didnt know this about the nuchal test, I dont think im to bothered.
The only thing I would kick up a fuss about was if the Spina biffida was only during a set time, my mother had a stillborn baby with that and I have a tethered spinal cord (its upside-down Y shaped) so I think im fairly at risk. Gah what is it about this pregnancy thats turning me into a blubbering paranoid mess??!!!

BTW Ive found something that I can keep down... Sainsburys Yum Yums.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok and not too green around the gills!!

ScorpiowithabigS · 19/05/2009 17:29

baisey - have you asked about 5mg folic acid?

Tillyscoutsmum · 19/05/2009 19:58

Hi everyone

I've got my midwife booking in appointment on Friday (at home as well -think its the norm) and my 12 week scan is 3rd June. Really hoping all is ok (obviously) as DH is due away for 5 days from the 4th

Baisey · 19/05/2009 20:19

With me being 12 weeks 4 days would it matter now? Doesnt the development of the spine happen mid 1st trimester? Ive been taking the pregnacare vitamins (when I can keep them down)
Ive just googled it and im quite angry that my midwife didnt recommend it! Grr.

cazzybabs · 19/05/2009 21:27

as someone who has extermely high blood pressure in pregnancy I don't worry about hot baths...I love them! but I don't ever have them at home only when i go to my mums because my bath here is grim...

I was going to get a new bathroom but now i am having a baby - sigh!!!

LaDiDaDi · 19/05/2009 22:04

My midwife booking in apt is at home on Saturday. Saw her briefly in the clinic when she quickly ticked the high risk box and then arranged a time to see me properly as I hadn't been given a booking in slot in the clinic iyswim.

Hopefully I will find out a scan date next week.

Shimmer · 19/05/2009 22:19

Hi everyone! I'm expecting a brand new DC December 15th, by my calculations .
I already have a 2.5 year old DS, so this will be my 2nd. I'm told it's all much easier 2nd time round!?!

Been feeling VERY ill for the last 6 weeks with morning, noon and nighttime sickness, but fingers crossed, it seems to be getting a bit better. I ate 3 proper meals today for the first time in ages!!

I'm amazed at you lot having booking in appointments at home (and lucky you those who have had scans already!) I'm quite new to the area i live in now, in sussex, and obviously should have tried to get to see a midwife sooner than I did - but I called GPs surgery 2 weeks ago and was told first appointment with the mw wasn't til June 4th! So I'm not even getting booked in til then - which means i reckon i'll be at least 15 weeks at first scan. I don't really mind, as i'm expecting everything to be straightforward, but it's annoying having to wait so long!

Milliemuffin · 19/05/2009 22:42

Hi ladies, congrats to all those expecting little ones in Dec.
I'm about 8 weeks preg (already have 22month ds) and just wondering if anyone else has been feeling really cold lately? I thought pregnancy was meant to make you warmer but I find myself wearing a vest and tshirt and sometimes a zip up hoody/jacket aswell and I've felt like it for about a month now. Anyone experienced coldness before? I've also had a dodgy stomach for about the same length of time so maybe that's why? I'm going for my early private scan next tue (bit unsure as to dates as we had mc in march and no period) so fingers crossed xx
