Doh - sorry
Snowfalls - glad scan went well

LJ29 · 27/04/2009 16:15

Thanks for all your support ladies it really does make a difference. I've been out at lunch time and bought some Spatone from boots too and even after one dose I feel some much more awake. The good thing about Boots too is that you can always pay with your advantage card poins and not have to actually pay any cash out!

LizLemon · 27/04/2009 16:23

have eaten 3 scones already

Congrats April!

I have that same achy feeling every now and then ladylush, so thank your midwife for putting me at ease too

Glad you feel a bit better LJ. Reckon I might have to jump on the spatone bandwagon.

ladylush · 27/04/2009 16:34

Oh good Liz - not just me then. Was getting paranoid as I'm supposed to be having a colposcopy but wondering whether to put it off til after I've had the baby. I think I'd be more worried if I had it all the time but it's just every now and then - and more so if I've been on my feet a lot.

LizLemon · 27/04/2009 16:57

I get paranoid when I have aches, and paranoid when I don't, so I can't win. I mostly decide everything is normal, but write it down on the sheet of 'things to mention to Rachel' (my mw).

ladylush · 27/04/2009 17:05

It makes you wonder how women coped before we had all this hospital care. I won't be seeing the m/w now for another 8 weeks, though I've got my scan in 2 weeks.

The thing that's occupying my mind most at the moment, is wondering how much time I will take off work. I met with HR last week but dh and I still need to suss out how much time we can afford for me to take off. I get 2 months full pay, then it goes down to half pay, then SMP. The NHS package is not great. If I worked in social services (doing the same job) I'd get 6 months full pay. I want to go back part-time so that may also impact on how much maternity leave I will take - re. finances.

mrswee · 27/04/2009 17:09

Hi all,
I'm new here but I'm just 18 weeks and due on the 29th sept so I guess this is a good thread to say hello?!

I have been reading for a while and have found lot of intersing info and seen a lot of good support for everyone, how lovely!

so nice to meet you all!

SabsBigPants · 27/04/2009 17:09

I also am worried about finances and how much time to take off ladylush i get 4 and a half months full pay, and then the $117 a week or whatever it is. Hasnt helped that DH got made redundant and is having a had time finding a permanent job. also need to save up for a house, as we currently live in a 1-bed house, which we can probably stay in until the baby reaches 1 year or so...

SabsBigPants · 27/04/2009 17:11

welcome mrswee im also 18 weeks...due 26th september..is it your first?

ladylush · 27/04/2009 17:27

Welcome mrswee

Sabs - sorry to hear about your dh's redundancy. Hope he gets another job soon. I don't want to moan too much because I know others are in a worse situation and besides, after longing for this baby for so long I don't want to spend much time worrying about things like money. These things always work out in the end

mrswee · 27/04/2009 17:28

Hi Sabs

yes, Our first!
we were trying for a long time and it suddenly happened all by itself around the time we had an appointment to see about fertility investigations...it was such a shock! funny how things happen

SabsBigPants · 27/04/2009 17:29

wise word ladylush very true

Snowfalls108 · 27/04/2009 17:30

Welcome MrsWee.

SabsBigPants - we're in 1 bedroom place as well. Going to be very cosy. I was quite worried about it but then the people next door had a baby, and they have a studio flat which is half the size of ours.

SabsBigPants · 27/04/2009 17:31

well congrats to you mrswee its my first too...had a mmc in september last year so worry all the time, even though we've past the magic 12-week mark...

have you had your 12-week scan? When is your 20 week scan? Im going to see the midwife tomorrow to hear babys heartbeat and then have my 20 week scan in 2 weeks, on 12th may...

ladylush · 27/04/2009 17:41

Sabs - our scan is on the same day (I'll be 22 weeks then). Exciting eh Sorry to hear about your mmc I think they are horrible m/cs because there are often no signs that anything is amiss. I've been through it myself and like you can not completely relax about the pregnancy but my rational brain (as opposed to irrational, paranoid, scatty pregnancy brain)says to get this far is a very good sign

SabsBigPants · 27/04/2009 17:46

ladylush you have a very good way with words - i like your positive style, makes me feel positive too

what time is your scan? Mine is at 8.30am, followed by a midwife appointment at 9.30am, followed by having to deliver a whole days worth of training halfway across london!

are you going to find out the sex? We're not (we think!) as its the first and a friend told me that when you dont know the sex it gives you that extra incentive when in labour and your pushing because you want to know what your having!!!

mrswee · 27/04/2009 18:07

Hi sabs

Thanks! Sorry to hear about your worries, I think I'm a born worrier but am a little calmer now that I'm as far along as 18 weeks.

I had my 12 week scan at 14 weeks and heard the heart beat for the first time last wednesday at my booking app. Took them ages to find it, the nurse said the baby kept swimming away! Was very good to hear!

I don't have my 20 week scan till the 18th may - 2 weeks today, they are a bit behind in my area as they have only just started giving the 20 week scans as standard since Feb this year. So I feel luck to be getting one at all!

ladylush · 27/04/2009 18:16

Sabs - thanks I'm trying not to jinx things - hence the positive outlook Wow, you certainly do have a very busy schedule on the day of the scan My scan is at 10.30 I think. I'm still undecided about whether to find out the sex. We did find out with our first, but not sure this time. Lol at your friend's advice. It could well be true

mrswee · 27/04/2009 18:44

I think we are going to find out the sex.

I'm finding it hard to believe any of this is real after trying for nearly 3 years and then suddenly becoming pregnant out of the blue, so I think it will help me bond with my baby and make it more real for us.

I would never have considering finding out but my OH wanted too and when I thought about it, it made sense the what I'm feeling here and now.

TigerFeet · 27/04/2009 18:53

Hello mrswee and welcome

Congrats on joining the dd2 club Aprilmeadow

Has anyone thought about names yet? A colleague at work is expecting a boy at the end of August and has named him already! I've had some thoughts (and done a baby name thread lol) but dh won't be drawn on any discussion, I think he can't see the point in talking about it with 20 weeks still to go.

detoxdiva · 27/04/2009 19:01

Hi all - feels like I've been away for ages....spent forever catching up on the thread! I too have my scan tomorrow and we will find out the sex if we can - I have it in my head it's a boy, which means it'll be a girl

Good luck to everyone else having scans too

pebblebeach · 27/04/2009 19:13

Evening ladies,
Just trying to catch up after being off line all weekend, lots going on, congrats on those scans.

Welcome mrswee, and LJ - that sounds so worrying I hope the Drs can work it out soon.

Can I put my hands up for being unable to park and constantly starving too and I also have "that" aching feeling lots - I had convinced myself it was due to poor pelvic floor muscles....

Tigerfeet I can't believe your colleague has chosen a name already, we had such a nightmare naming DD1, she was a surprise and we had 4 girls names but really only one very vague boy's name, thank goodness she was a girl! We're not doing any better this time so far, sigh.

daffodilli · 27/04/2009 19:49

Thanks for the lovely bump comments !

LJ so sorry for your worry, you've had a bit of a time of it so far,I really hope Drs can give you some answers x x

TigerFeet am not sure but I think you are a fellow IBS sufferer? have had a letter through asking me to make an appointment with Consultant re this and when I rang they said it was because I lost so much weight with the HG and there was a query re absorption.IBS not better, but not worse either so not sure..Has anyone mentioned this to you? Mind you I've also got to see another consultant re scarring on one of my kidneys so maybe I had better be put in a bag and given a good shake!!

April congratulations on your little pink bump are you going anywhere nice on your hols? would love go to somewhere nice and sunny! !

Audrey thanks for the heads up on the 24 site!will have a nose later..(was going to say something re this series but not sure if you've seen all the episodes yet so will be quiet!)

Snowfalls great scan news!

Ladylush I've got the achey feeling to,sometimes it feels like my whole insides have moved and is a bit scary x x

Welcome to mrswee and congratulations! First timer here as well

Lizlemon any scones left or am I too late?! Love a homemade scone!! especially with jam and cheese!

First day back to my 9-6, am sooo tired so I hope I've not mixed everyone up!

Phew...

Minshu · 27/04/2009 20:43

Evening, all.

Detoxdiva - I've got my anomaly scan tomorrow, too. And I'm sure it's a boy for no scientific reason, so have to find out if I'm right or not. I must admit to being a bit nervous - partly as I've not felt any real movement yet, but it sounds like I'm not the only one. DP and I are fortunate enough to have sufficient annual leave to take the whole day off, like we did for the dating scan. I was totally up a height both before (nerves) and after (relief / joy / euphoria) that I would have been neither use nor ornament at work.

Mrswee - welcome along. We had just had tests when I got my BFP, so my GP was one of the first to congratulate me, as I'd gone in just after the test results had come through. She looked genuinely pleased for me - possibly because she could tell me she told me so

TigerFeet · 27/04/2009 21:01

daffodilli, I do have IBS and HG, no one has mentioned absorption issues though. I have lost almost 2 stone since Christmas although thankfully the weight loss has slowed right down now that I'm on medication. Funnily enough I haven't had so many symptoms since I fell pg. Perhaps I should mention it when I'm at the ANC on Thursday. I do feel knackered, despite mainlining spatone, so perhaps there is something else going on.

Good luck to everyone who's having a scan over the next couple of days. Hope all goes well and you enjoy it

Right I'm off to watch the HEll's Kitchen final. Anyone watching it?
