Blimey, it's hard to catch up. I read all the posts and then forget who said what.
Slept from 11:00 until 6:30 this morning so feeling good about that. Glands are a bit less swollen. I did attempt a coq au vin last night but it almost killed me, so I have banned myself from cooking dishes which require more than one hours prep!!
DH was out the night before and didn't get home till 5am!!! He had been at an awards ceremony and afterwards had spent until 4am trying to convince two business people of the good sense of a current business proposition - nothing if not dedicated!! Although perhaps a bit of a slurry conversation after 2am methinks. Sometimes I miss my former carefree life when we both used to stay out till all hours, and sometimes I am relieved I have an excuse - what do you think?
Oh - does anyone have any experience of these growth curves on your maternity notes. I didn't have a chart with dd1. This time at 29 weeks baby was on the lowest curve, at 32 weeks on the middle (average) curve, and at 35 weeks is on the highest curve, so a steep climb! If the next measurement is above the highest curve they will scan me I think. Is this a very precise science the fundal measurement? oh and effie - what large babies - at least you know they are lovely, big, bouncy, healthy bubbas . My 4'11" cousin (with equally short husband) just had a 9lb9oz baby - that surprised me!
Re: slumber bear. I might wait until the baby is born and take a view on what kind of a sleeper he is. Can always order from JoJoMaman and it will arrive in 2 days.
silkcushion - apologies. Silk definately far preferable to 'sick'. I am considering home birth but have to confirm by Thursday at the latest. I am likely to decide against sadly, because, and this may sound dumb reasons....but at 42 if anything went wrong I would never forgive myself and could not try again (I would blame myself you see), there is a good chance dp may not be with me if before due date, and as expecting a fast delivery (which I found quite frightening last time) in my area it is actually faster to order the ambulance with paramedic to get to hospital than to wait for the midwife. Also dp not keen as previous partner heamorrhaged badly and needed emergency services asap. I am gutted though, and wonder if I am making a mistake . I think it would give us a wonderful attachment to our new home - where we could say 'our son was born'.
tee - so it's all clear about dh's job then ....not! I hate it when they drag things out like that....especially when you are due in June. Like you need a reason for extra sleeplessness.
Ineed - controlled crying didn't work for us and I stopped quite quickly. She just got in a desperate state and then I discovered she had reflux which was why - all that horrible acid riding up her throat. She must have been in agony. I thank the stars I had only tried a few times. I'm not against it at all, but all babies are different and some things will work for some babies but not all. Just like the swings, and the slumber bears and the massage etc. Just my view.
mrsmcjnr - how nice to have a night out. There is a groovy restaurant at the end of our street that we haven't yet been to (open about 9months now!) so I might just book that now
Ineed - great news about your Mum. I'm all for older people being fantastic people to hire. Very reliable workers, experience on their side and if happy likely to stay much longer than a much younger candidate.
erm - thanks for the book recommendations. I got 'Frances & Friends' and 'I'm a Big Sister Now' by Joanna Cole, and one other wordless book called 'The New Baby' which is really a prompt for conversation (probably good for younger children). I'm a Big Sister Now is the big hit as it makes her feel important because she has such a big job to do. Thanks for the tip. mrsmc - did you get one at all? I know you mentioned it, but that Xavier might be a bit young for them.
naat - my dd loved the Fisher Price swing and we wish we had bought it earlier. As she had reflux, she much preferred being upright, so actually our first full night of sleep was one night when she slept in the swing from 11:00 till 7:00. Yes, that goes against all medical advice and manufacturers recommendations etc etc, but it was funny - and we were all so much happier the next day. Great for when you are cooking meals too and stuff like that. I hope he/she likes it.
I had better go, I can hear dd is awake now. We put her to bed at 8.30 on Fri and Sat nights and she sleeps for 12 hours, so that's usually a nice lie in for me.
