LittleSarah that all sounds pretty borderline, but how frustrating to have to wait. Hope you get some (reassuring) answers tomorrow.

LittleSarah · 30/04/2009 19:52

Thanks ermintrude, does sound like it's probably not a big deal, will be nice to know for sure!

Missed your earlier comment about turning and stuff, thanks for the web address, I've had a wee look so hopefully that may help.. My mum was like 'well, you've had a natural birth and caesarians aren't that bad you know.' Lol. Yes, quite, I know they aren't but still when you're planning a home birth it will be a big change if the baby doesn't shift. All this talk about hospital bags will actually become an issue for one thing.

LittleSarah · 30/04/2009 20:40

ermin - Oh yes, glad to hear your wee one has moved! I wish I could tell myself, I'm always 'palpating' but I'm never sure what I'm feeling.

Naat · 30/04/2009 20:50

Oh LittleS so sorry to hear your supervisor is being anything BUT helpful How can he not just answer your question!?!?! I see you had a hard day today. Hope you get some answers from your MW. Fingers crossed for you!

Tee Prayers going your way so that everything is ok with your DH's job.

Choccie hope you had a good day today, hon.

Hi to everyone else!

Long day here, lots of work but only 35 pages to go!! I really really really want to finish it, I'm feeling guilty for not working on the dissertation with LO coming soon

blueberrysorbet · 30/04/2009 20:59

am about to write huge list of stuff to order on line and have sent here, which feels like homework for some reason and am putting it off. think am in denial baby will be here soon

arnica tablets have arrived, so am eating them in prep for cs, plus the chocolate (yeah right) flavoured iron tablets just in case. my doc is a right ray of sunshine when he wants.

little sarah, i met a woman recently who was breech, and in australia, they injected her uterus( i think) to relax it and turned the baby manually. it worked, and she gave birth normally.
re your dissertation, is there a blog for other students you can see what others are doing?
when i had ds, a woman opposite me was in labour at the hospital for 14 hours when the midwife said "ooh, its breech! sorry dear you need a c section"
the lady who will be looking after ds asked me for a list of his likes and dislikes, normal routine today in case i go into labour. so nice of her.

sorry if have mentioned this before, but does anyone else think the moses basket mattress is very hard and uncomfortable?

lauraloo09 · 30/04/2009 22:04

hiya everyone

quick question - how do you know if baby's head is engaging?
At last midwife appointment 2 weeks ago baby was head down now i have been getting told off DH and MIL (and a few others) that my bump has dropped, I have noticed this myself my next midwife appointment is next friday so hopefully will find out more then, got first ante-natal class on saturday (lasting 3 hours) which i'm looking forward too do you think midiwife will have a quick look at me then? I'm now 33 weeks on sat so is it too early for bump to be dropping??

silkcushion · 30/04/2009 22:11

hello all

I did a little post ages ago to say I'm due on the 19th. Have lurked and read from time to time but have been too busy with work and dd to post properly.

Hoping to join in now as work is easing up, I'm slowing up too.

Laura - if this is your first then 33 weeks is not too early. First babies can engage early. This happened with dd.

It also seems to have happened with this one too. Doesn't mean you'll deliver early. dd arrived on her due date but i was convinced for a week beforehand that it was imminent.

I found once baby had engaged it amde heartburn better but huge strain on my bladder (that's what I'm suddenly experiencing this time too)

ermintrude13 · 30/04/2009 22:42

Hello silkcushion, good to hear from you.

And like you and lauraloo my bump has dropped although I don't reckon the head is engaged yet because I felt it the last two times. But definitely more of a downward pressure (ouch) and less of a 'fullness' squashing my organs together. Maybe it's not just the Ranitidine tablet which is easing the heartburn.

Littlesarah, external version as described by blueberrysorbet is often offered for certain kinds of breech. They give you a local anaesthetic and manually encourage baby to move ie. push him/her round the right way gently. But they wouldn't be thinking of it until you're further on and baby has settled. Get leaning down those stairs! .

Gosh, look at the time, night all.

loooouise · 30/04/2009 23:25

Hi gals,

Thanks for your kind words June. Funerals are indeed surreal. I'm still dreaming about last Tuesday. And you're right about grief taking you by surprise - there's a obit for her in one of the Scottish papers today and reading it set me right back. Her poor DH is still talking about her in the present tense, but everybody says it's his call and to just accept it for now.

Btw the nutritionist company my friend ordered for me from is called The Power Package (I think) - check it out.

Tee bloody hell - scary stuff about your DH's job, just what you don't need. It does sound like a worry. I hope it works out and you're not stressing too much.

Choccie sending you sympathy and glad to hear your "friends" have gone! You poor poor thing! I've had piles if it helps you to feel less disgusting. Nope, it probably doesn't. Thread worm trumps piles. Hopefully you'll be rewarded with one of those orgasmic births that lasts 2 hours with no stitches. You deserve it!

Insy I snuck a look at your bump pic - you're looking hot, mama!

LittleSarah sorry about the breech business, that must be stressful. I'll mail you about pitching. You get used to dealing with rejections, they're an inevitability I'm afraid. But just wait till you get three commissions in a row and your byline's everywhere! There's no pattern to it, it's all feast or famine...

Lauraloo I'm kinda jealous your baby's head's engaged, cus it feels like things are starting to happen!

I enjoyed my first NCT class last night and didn't feel too weird being the only single mum. I have also consoled myself with a HOTmilk bra purchase - check out www.nursingbra.co.uk - they retail at least £10 cheaper than they do in the shops and delivery is FREE. Mine was £32 which I didn't mind paying because the six hooks at the back are clearly going to come in useful when boobs have life of their own!

daisy5 · 01/05/2009 10:12

looouise - is this it? pure package. It looks amazing. You might be pining to return to London to enjoy meals being delivered (you are still going home for a month or two aren't you?). And if they are delivered by a sexy looking bloke, then you have those HotMilk bras to flash at him . They are minxy looking bras.

choccie - you are having a rough time. Are the piles any better? And thread worm - You poor honey. I hope they find some relief for you. Are you aloud to eat the garlic cooked. I used to eat garlic soup. It's popular in Asia and has tonnes of garlic in it but is much more tasty. Or roasted garlic with squash and potato and onions - all in a roasting tray in oven with lots of oil and thyme etc?

littlesarah - My neighbour had hers 'turned'. She said it was quite painful but worth it as it worked. There are all those other positions to encourage turning aren't there. I hope it starts to make it's way 'up and over' - one less thing to worry about. Mine was in a perfect position last time, but has moved since. How maddening about the lack of direction re: assessment. When you've worked so hard, a liberal interpretation of guidelines by tutors must be frustrating.

ineed - your poor brother. Is he any better?

tee - wishing all the best for your dh. Hoping the rumours are not true.

Thanks for all your sympathy fellow Juners. I felt much better on Wednesday and even spent a few hours in the garden. But then yesterday my glands came up again and are now swollen all over, and I am coughing with what seems like a new bug. I just cannot believe it. Just dropped dd to nursery so about to go back to bed for an hour or so, as feeling really unwell again!!!

Quick question, have any second time mums ever tried the slumber_bear - you put it in the cot with your baby and can choose between sounds - white noise, heart beat of a mother etc that go for 15minutes then stop, and start again if baby makes a noise. Someone was recommending it to me yesterday but I wasn't sure about the idea.

Just updated the list to include sickcushion (hello ).

Effielou · 01/05/2009 10:13

Hi All.

Well knackered today,as SPD was horrendous last night!!! But other than school runs, nothing else planned for today-- so can put my feet up and relax!!!

blueberrysorbet Hi we haven't chatted yet I'm due my 3rd section do arnica tablets really help!!! What do they do and where can I get some???

lauralou I was wonderng about head engaging- my friend said my bump had dropped ( 3rd baby- 32 weeks on Sun) And having emense pressure "down below" and every step take makes me need a wee. And have a sharp sensation there as well. But as its 3rd baby and only 32 weeks-'m not sure whether head would have engaged-- Heads been down since 30 wks!!! What do you thnk???

On a good note I ordered my pram yesterday and really excited- It may arrive today probably when I'm on a school run!!!

Hope you all have a good day xxx

daisy5 · 01/05/2009 10:14

I should say 'allowed' - what an atrocious grammatical mistake.

daisy5 · 01/05/2009 10:16

Hi effie - search this thread for arnica - we discussed it a few pages back and I wrote down the recommended dose from my previous NCT advisor and we discussed where to find it etc. lol.

Effielou · 01/05/2009 10:19

daisy5 thank-you very much-- will go there now xxxx

LittleSarah · 01/05/2009 10:40

Daisy - Yes that is exactly what makes it more frustrating!

Re the breech, a couple of Edinburgh based people have also mentioned successful manual turning so I guess we may have someone here who is good at it. I was a bit worried reading up that only some docs are experienced in it. I'm going to try not to worry about it for next couple of weeks until appointment at 36 weeks and see what happens then, I just wish I was better at working out positions myself!

Looouise - Thanks for advice and reassurance on this writing business! I will definitely be doing more pitching in late summer/early autumn and at least then I will just be pitching ideas and not already written features! The picture for these three is looking bleak on the publication front but I'm not quite ready to give up on them completely.

I got my hotmilk bra from nursingbra.co.uk too, fab service! Mine is the antique lace (light turquoise backgound) one. Going to get a black one in a couple of weeks.

Gosh, arnica! I must try and get that soon, and write down Daisy's advice, I keep forgetting!

bunnymother · 01/05/2009 11:31

Morning ladies!!

Gosh, lots of chat over the last couple of days!

Silk - welcome back!

Ineed - so sorry to hear about your brother and SIL's accident, but glad that they are OK.

Loouise - I imagine all sorts of things will bring back that terrible feeling of loss about your friend. When my uncle died, my dad couldn't bear to hear certain classical music (uncle played the violin), but now I think he enjoys remembering him, still w sadness and a feeling of loss, but not so raw, and also remembers funny things he used to do and say. I hope that's ahead for you. Am extremely at that outstanding gift your friend gave you - wonderful! So helpful and I imagine the meals will be delicious.

LittleSarah - God, how annoying that your MW has turned the glucose situation into a mystery that can't be solved due to a lack of clues. Clarity is a good thing, NHS!! Your supervisor also sounds unclear about this whole dissertation, which is so stressful. Not at all your fault - as you said, he has supervised many and should tell you exactly what you need to do. Sorry your article not accepted, but sounds like freelancing is a numbers game and, so, looking forward to your post telling us that you have had article/s accepted! [encouraging emoticon] Hope you feeling a bit better about things today.

Loouise and LittleSarah - am def getting Hot Milk bras (once fitted) - the other ones make me feel depressed. Have warned DH of more financial outflow and funnily enough, he is v encouraging that I get foxy nursing bras

Laura and Ermin - I was thinking today that bump looks lower (ie not quite starting directly under my bazooms this morning ), but can't be sure. Bladder been dodgy for some time, so that's no clue. Will be reading answer to question re "how do I know if baby has engaged" w interest!

Tee - am thinking of you and hoping that your DH's work situation works out for the best... Hopefully its just rumours, or if not, that a massive payout will come your way.

Choccie - I, too, think you are definitely deserving of quick, fab orgasmic birth after everything this pregnancy is putting you through. For "friends" to leave, only to be replaced by slinky snakes is v unfair for you.

Daisy - also v unfair that you aren't feeling well again. Hopefully this passes and you can sail into the last month. I haven't heard of slumber bear, sorry. Sounds v good, though.

Hello all you other lovely Juners!

I put up our LO's bouncer chair/swing yesterday and spent much a little bit of time cooing over it. In case anyone considering one, I got the Graco Swing n Bounce after reading many reviews on these things, and am v impressed so far. Bought on ebay for much less than the stores selling for.

Sorry for essay!! I better run and do my chores, but all this typing has deflated my sausage fingers. They were looking distinctly puffy and feeling a bit sore this morning. Charming.

Have super days!! ((waves))

Naat · 01/05/2009 11:39

Hi Juners!

Daisy Oh, poor you, honey. I hope it's not a new bug but only a minor temporary thing. Try and rest a bit today if you can. I had never heard of the bear, but would love to know if other experienced Juners have

Effie You reminded me to get the tablets!! Hope your pushchair arrives today BUT NOT when you're out Sorry to hear about your SPD acting up last night but great to know you can put your feet up today

Looouise you enjoyed your NCT class. We have our first this evening at the birthing centre. I can't wait! Those bras look fab!! LOL at Daisy's comment!

Ermin so glad to hear the tablets are making the heartburn go away!

Hi Silk! Welcome back!

Blue The mattress that came in the moses basket we got (from friends) is not that thick at all so I was wondering the opposite hahaha. It's like 3cm high, but it's my first moses basket so I don't know... How thick is yours?

34 weeks today!!! First parenting class tonight so really looking forward to it! But now, back to work

Hi to all Juners!!! (waves)

Naat · 01/05/2009 11:44

X-post Bunny!
that your DH is encouraging you to get Hotmilk bras! Go for them!!!
Oh, great that you talked about bouncing chairs. We want to buy one this wkend but I was lost among all the choices . I'll ebay the one you say to see, thanks!!!
Do we have the same due date?? I'm also 34 wks today... But the list says you're due on 5th June... aren't you 35 today?

Naat · 01/05/2009 11:45

Oh my brain, Bunny! That was MY post I was reading!!! hahaha Forget I said anything

ermintrude13 · 01/05/2009 12:04

Re: mattresses - your LO mustn't have a mattress s/he can sink into (especially if s/he likes rolling onto the front which many babies do, since they haven't read the latest guidelines on sleeping positions ). So it might seem firm to you but in all likelihood is just right. The mattress will have a cover, baby will be in soft cotton clothes and a firm mattress is good for the spine

lauraloo09 · 01/05/2009 12:16

morning juners...can you guys believe thats us now in MAY ca't seem to get my head around the fact that its only 1 1/2 months till I'm due

sounds silly but i def feel that bump is a lot lower, i dont feel as constricted around my boobs and everytime i move i feel like i need the toilet, went around 4 times in the space of 1 hour.

ineed i forgot to ask how your brother and his gf is doing.

will catch up eventually and i dont think this thread is going to last until the first of us 'pops'

chocciedooby · 01/05/2009 12:21

Hi everyone.

Tee - so sorry to hear about the rumours of dh possibly being made redundant. Will be thinking of you and if it does happen then really hope you get a healthy payout.

Littlesarah -any news on those bloods yet?

Naat - Had a better day yesterday. Am coping on very little sleep still.Laxatives and co still taking a while to kick in but I am not in much pain any more with the Friends. Just got call from pharmacist that the medication for my new arrivals is in so I am off down there on my school run to get it and take it asap. I am really looking forward to getting some decent sleep, a bit of a rest and hopefully a good weekend.

Did you get your 35 pages completed?

Louise - An orgasmic birth sounds like heaven. I am going to bed dreaming of that . No other types of orgasms going on here lately I can tell you !

Daidy - hope your bug clears up soon, poor you . The soup with garlic sounds delicious. Thank you so much for the tip.

Ladies thanks for reminiding me, I still have to go out and buy a new moses basket mattress.

Had my OB appt. this morning. He made a note of all my recent "problems". I omitted the latest arrivals. Too embarressed to tell people in RL that one.

OB said baby will be about 4kgs when born. pretty much bang on what DS2 was. A good healthy weight. (bet it will be bigger)!

Have a good day Juners.xx

bigcar · 01/05/2009 13:30

Afternoon all

Been a bit of a manic week and haven't managed to post and have now completely lost track

tee, sorry to hear about your dhs job, not what you need right now. Sounds like you're quite organised on the baby front now, when will you find out what sort of delivery they recommend for you? I've got to wait till after my next scan, it makes planning and bag packing very difficult!

littlesarah, hope your results come back ok and the dissertation gets sorted.

hello effie! I'm also on crutches and having physio for spd, not much fun is it?! What pram did you order [nosey emoticon] ?

hello silk, good to see you back!

choccie, sorry to hear you've had a rough time recently. Looks like we are both in for large babies then

Thanks for your kind thoughts ladies for my appointments, all went well, thankfully. My blood glucose levels have been ok for the last week so at least I don't have to go back until after my next scan, I can get away with ringing them if my levels go up again, so much better The physio was great, I always feel so much better when I've seen her.

I've actually managed to get some stuff done this week got all the baby stuff washed and ironed, so I feel I'm finally getting somewhere now

Did anyone else hear we're supposed to be in for a hot summer? Remember to get those sunshades for the prams and cars, looks like we might be needing them!

to all

Effielou · 01/05/2009 15:57

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 01/05/2009 17:30

Thanks all for your kind words about my brother and his girlfriend. They spent Wed night in A&E and then had to go back and spend another 5 hours there on Thursday as the docs thought that she?d broken her neck! As it is, there is a lot of tendon / ligament / muscle damage, but no break, thankfully. They?ve gone back home today to try and get all the legal stuff sorted (the wanker that hit them is trying to claim it?s their fault ). But they have a hire car now, and they?re starting the claim for their injuries.

MY MUM GOT THE JOB! I?m so thrilled for her as she was 1 of 6 candidates and the last job interview she went for was 21 years ago when she returned to work after my brother went to school full-time! She is so pleased as she hates it where she is and was about to start grievance procedures against her boss. Now she?s just got to work her notice. Hooray.

Found out today that SIL has finally chucked out her LOSER of a partner after years of him behaving as he damned well-pleased and being a shite partner and father. (All that sounds a bit strong but he treats her like a skivvy and he?s really quite nasty ? apart from with DH, I can?t be this honest in real life!). She finally had enough when he went out for a drink for St George?s Day on Thursday night and came home Sunday..... . She?ll be left with three kids under 5 to look after, but to be honest, she?s always coped with them on her own, so it won?t be that different. I feel bad for the kids, but again, he?s such an awful role-model and he spent so little time with them, that they?ll actually see more of him and have more quality time with him once he?s left.

Ermintrude - I also loved my ?V? pillow when I had DS (so much so I?ve bought another one to leave downstairs so that I?m not ferrying it up and down this time).

LittleSarah - Hope the dissertation?s going okay, despite the shite support you?ve had from your college . Sorry to hear about all the cryptic messages from the midwife. Hope you get some answers soon. Sorry also to hear about the article rejection. It?s so hard isn?t it? My mate dis some free-lance stuff a year or so ago and she found it so demoralising.

Insy - we also did CC with DS and it really worked. I know that it?s not popular on here, and there is all sorts of arguments against it, but it worked for us and DS and he?s a brilliant sleeper now.

Effielou - Sorry to hear about the stretch-marks. I?ve only a few over each hip. I got them with DS, and they seem to have re-stretched a bit with this PG. I think my bikini days are over tho? to I?m not too worried! LOL at the FART initials! Sorry to hear the SPD is raging again . I?ve had a pretty bad week with it this week, tho? it seems to have calmed down a bit over the last couple of days.

choccie - Hope all your problems ?downstairs? sort themselves out soon. Bloody pregnancy! You lose all dignity don?t you?! Not long to go now... hope the garlic munching is going well!! x

looooouise - Glad the NCT class went well.

Naat - Hope the translation is going okay. Good luck in packing your bags. I keep remembering I?ve forgotten things and rushing to put something else in the bag.... always at crazy times in the night. Just remembered that I needed to pack a bag for DS in-case we have to drop hi off somewhere quickly. We didn?t need to do that last time so it didn?t even occur to me this time! Hope you get to work on your dissertation soon. I remember I was so pleased once I handed mine in, I cried! Hope the parenting class goes okay tonight x

Tee - So sorry to hear about your DH. What bloody timing! I hope he hears one way or the other soon. All this waiting is not good for your nerves.

Lauraloo - Glad to hear your hips have calmed down a bit. Loved the fact that you were wolf-whistling in the cinema! No idea how you tell if it?s engaged. I vaguely remember my bump looking a bit lower and feeling pressure ?down there?, but I gave birth so early I think I?d only engaged a few days before I popped. I carry my bump really low anyway, so I always get the comments that I?ve ?dropped?..... As this is my second, I think there?s a chance it won?t ?drop? until I?m about to go into labour....

silkcushion - Hi there! You?re due on my birthday!

Daisy - Sorry to hear you are still feeling under the weather. When will the bugs ever bloody go away? Not long to the end now. BTW ? LOL at you calling silkcushion ?sickcushion? !

Bunny - I also suffer from sausage fingers, tho? mine tends to be in the morning. I think it?s where my hands are clenched up at night and then they swell up. Mine seem to slim down over the day.... so far!

bigcar - I also heard we?re in for a hot summer. Here?s hoping!

Anyway, off to do DS's dinner now. Love to all xx
